@rapid hornet Have you seen the wifi-scanner-gui demo for the WIO Terminal?
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT engineer, Limor "Ladyada" Fried. Her goal was to create the best place online for learning electronics and making the best designed products for makers of all ages and skill levels.
their pin defs are here https://xinabox.cc/pages/technology
mind you wont work for thinner boards.
Note: the slot is 1mm...like what I suggested...seems they had the same exprience as me.
TE Connectivity TE Connectivity 1367073-1 US$0.34 LCSC electronic components online Connectors Card Edge Connectors leaded datasheet+inventory and pricing
thats a 20 pin connector, i think used usually for SFP
i was bored one night
there is another thing that handles two sizes.
but i fell asleep and couldnt find it in the morning
The problem with re-using a connector is breaking compatibility...you know someone will try to plug in a 2080-TI into their breadboard...probably Linus 😄
well now its 3090 , will it fit
the raspberrypi compute modules use standard sodimm connectors,
Please write a 2080-TI library for the ESP32!
noooooooooo.....not a hub 🙂
discussion about the gdbgui issue at espressif github https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/pull/5794
someone asked that on an issue and they recommended using pip to install the correct packages
I am running a CD pipeline and it automatically replicates the esp-idf repo. and its fairly difficult to change the requirements.txt over there. Can I use a pip command to somehow downgrade after the newest package has been installed?
Yes, using pip install you can install any available version. eg, change dir to /home/{user}/.espressif/python_env/idf4.3_py3.6_env/bin then run ./pip3 install gdbgui==0.13.2.0 pygdbmi==0.9.0.2
....
not really knowing what can be done in github actions i am just lurking for the answer
Yes
I've not seen/used the Github review process before, pretty interesting to see it in action 🙂
I use github quite a bit for work, but never use the review feature it's cool to see it in action.
Oh, I think I've found something to work on. I just raised a PR on ArduinoBLE to expose the "advertised service data" https://github.com/arduino-libraries/ArduinoBLE/pull/110
Looks like I could contribute something similar here: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_BLE
Set it
Mmm I will look for it
Some small BLE sensors use "advertised service data" to share the current readings, without having to connect.
Aaaah, nice 🙂 I've not seen that but I'll go looking
does it all add up to the total?
This is what I've been doing during the stream.
Soldering, testing, fixing, testing...now all working 🙂
Not on Tindie yet, doesn't exist 😄 #fakeboards
Very pretty but green
It's called Grodan (Swedish for frog)...still have to write the firmware for.
ESP32 / S2? with STEMMA QT?
STM32....it can't run CPY...only 16kb flash, 6kb ram
Ah, just saw the original image size 🙂 nice one!
F032 @rapid hornet 😄
F042? 🙂
yeah
off by 1 error
I burnt my number finger
now my vmware machine is not working with usb correctly. frustrating
localisation 🙂 all the buildings here start at 1 instead of 0/ground
I have G431...nice
so 1 is ground? is 0 basement
0v = Ground 😄
Entire step-by-step process going through the design of STM32-based hardware in KiCAD, from schematic creation, through to four-layer PCB layout and routing, as well as sending it off for manufacture and assembly via JLCPCB.

i'm trying to remember if floors here start at 2
I've been following this channel on STM32 breakout board development
i saw that video
@wispy linden that video....is the reason I got into PCB design!
It taught me KiCAD
Includes all the schematic source, and production-ready files
Seriously...I owe a lot to that video
STM32F405RGT6
Owe = blame
All the parts are "basic parts" on JLCPCB for SMT assembly
Nearly all the parts on Grodan are basic parts...I didn't solder everything on it 😄
@drifting arch same thing, his videos are a great crash course in PCB design 🙂
lol
JLCPCB don't have USB / JST connectors though right?
So those would be hand solder I assume
i was watching this guy as well. its altium but not super complicated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef_zTXanUCE

I would argue that PHP isn't a language, but that it is a mess. 🙂
there was something on microsoft site about running wordpress on .NET core
instead of PHP
What? How would that work?
Oh. Aha.
PeachPie allows you to run PHP applications on .NET Core - faster, stabler and more secure.
I would argue that .NET is even less of a language than PHP.
I learnt PHP in 1994...it was barely a language then
well C# is not so bad. i did about 4 months of coding, way back
@wispy linden Yes, I had to hand solder USB, JST, Switch and 2 parts which were out of stock at JLC.
i think they've gone through 5 versions since then 🙂
I am doing c# since .Net 2.1...
I wrote a few C# windows programs. Instead of C/C++ and MFC
Writing it in c# when you tried c++ makes you feel like you are cheating. It's not hard anymore. 🙂
interesting, my linux vm does not like the esp32 usb drive
true. i loved my short time with it
I actually switched from Delphi.
@clever summit I did Basic -> Delphi -> C
I hate you bot.... ............. ........ ......
It likes me it seems
I was trying to get the bot to hate me
i did varios assemblers, pdp8/11 then algol then more assembly, then stuff, then some cobol, then pascal then c c++ etc etc
you are special mark
Basic (sinclair spectrum 48k) > C > C++ > Perl > Java (work) > Python > JavaScript/TypeScript
Maybe cause I'm Purple
i wonder why vmware workstation doesnt like the esp32 native usb.
I should be purple as well?
orange is not my fave colour
Yeah, add me.
they send a cheque every month, or people are saying that
Loving the purple 🙂 thank you
Basic -> Delphi -> C -> C++ -> PHP -> Javascript -> Java -> Python -> Ruby -> Little of Erlang -> Go -> Rust .... I know I've missed some
its ok. i can barely code hello world in Python
Delphi! wow haven't heard that in a long time
I am a key contributor, added the SWEDISH translation! 🙂
😄
Delphi := Cool
Loved Delphi.
I never ventured into Delphi
I converted a Delphi program to C#
Did a lot of Pascal
Thank you @rapid hornet have a great weekend
Thanks Scott.
Thanks! It was intersting seeing the workflow
Enjoy your hike, @rapid hornet ! Just got my Skydio 2 drone, and enjoying it tracking me on hikes and drives.
nice!
@rapid hornet I'll probably play with Skydio's skills SDK, which is in Python.

Cabinet o' mystery
On my STEMMA-QT (I2C) + CircuitPython wish list: a datalogger storage breakout board.
twitch work great
Stemma? Stemma?! Stemma!
Is there an I2C address map of all Stemma boards?
I2C address space is 127 addresses, some are reserved. With 50 boards I imagine it's getting pretty full
Great John Park
There are ways to multiplex I2C to create more address space.
Thanks @haughty quiver
Park Stemma John Park QT
Thanks @haughty quiver. Nice to see how easy it is to support that OLED in CircuitPython.
I was happy with how straighforward it is to use @inner spade and it's nice to have the small, simple cable/connector for running the display on a front panel or wearable...
@haughty quiver have you seen those oled use as similar to streamdeck
@shell mason for camera/app switching?
like streamdeck
I made a couple of STEMMA-compatible displays for my Eurorack using the older version of this display. Nice to have an integrated, proven, and Ladyada-engineered version!
there is opensource called freedeck if I remember correctly
Very cool @shell mason thanks
@haughty quiver here is the repo https://github.com/koriwi/freedeck-hardware
@cinder wind not stemma specific but for the sensors themselves: https://learn.adafruit.com/i2c-addresses
nice!
That list will come in handy, thanks!
The Keyboard Featherwing's keyboard is also at I2C address 0x1F
Multiple RTC chips share the same I2C address but are almost totally incompatible! Fun!
CircuitPython Day is dedicated to Lamba Labs:
Dedication
On August 4th, 2020, Beirut, Lebanon experienced a massive explosion that left many dead and injured, as well as leaving thousands homeless. In the aftermath, Lamba Labs Makerspace stepped up and joined the efforts to rebuild their community, including search and rescue, restoring damaged homes, and volunteering, including providing aid tents to help the community find food and shelter and joining construction engineers to help with the rebuilding process. Last year, Lamba Labs Makerspace was a partner for CircuitPython Day. This year CircuitPython Day is being dedicated to Lamba Labs Makerspace for all of the amazing work they're doing in the Beirut community. If you would like to help with their efforts, consider donating to the following fundraisers:

With my 64x64 matrix controlled I felt in Safe mode frequently while developing. Could it be power related?
Yeah... that was bright.
Yes, bright draws more power
When testing, try low brightness then you cal always change later
My problem was to get out of safe mode. And that mean unplugging both the 5V and the USB. Or at least that was my way... I could have press reset or ???
Happy CircuitPython Day

Hi @rapid hornet
On the microS2, i get yellow > blue > green during boot
That same command with BOOTLOADER is great when the reset button is in an inflated balloon...
Maybe boot button can help for safe mode. It connects to GPIO0
And you want to upgrade.
The boot button doubles up as a user button..
so would work nicely
The BlackEdge board I am working on will do the HDMI stuiff
Maximite colour 2... Running CircuitPython rather than Basic.
@rapid hornet STM32F7 ltdc output.....with a HDMI converter
I grew up on the C64, really taught me everything I knew to start
VGA support... And convert to HDMI.
maybe something for your fpga work 🙂
HDMI out would be really cool, theirs a ton you could do with it besides just acting as a computer screen
I would guess your fpga board could do hdmi -
i grew up on carrots
LTDC gives it digital all the way 😉
@rapid hornet https://se.farnell.com/stmicroelectronics/b-lcdad-hdmi1/adapterkort-dsi-till-hdmi/dp/2664592
The B-LCDAD-HDMI1 is a DSI to HDMI adapter board for STM32 development tools. It provides DSI input port and HDMI output port. It can be used on STM32 evaluation boards or discovery boards to demonstrate video solutions based on STM32 MCUs.
Suddenly everybody was super excited!!!
That board plugs into a discovery
The Duck
I am pretty sure my C64 is still at my mom's
I love to see Circuitpython supports Blue Pill (STM32)
That is awesome
I have the old C64 programmers guide, had a whole circuit diagram, Probably could figure out the power supply from that
Bluepill isn't good enough, not enough flash
@manic vine stm31f103 has too little flash & sram for circuitpython
the blackpill should work
The lego set was the seattle space needle thingy
I remember the LEGO mind storm Droid Developer Kit
i think i used ftp software that was called cyberduck
this show is all about the diversions
It is cyberDÛCK
I have a topic....CPY based on Zephyr....I've played with the MPY version, and it's amazing...we soooo need that 😉
beaglebone boards can boot off flash
Basic was in IBM PC ROM!
from what i think it does the esp-idf spi stuff does the buffer move
do you use spi_master.c in hte esp-idf?
line 715 in spi_master.c
yay @drifting arch
I think you have to implement multiple solutions, benchmark and then decide on pro and cons...
Put the zero and try.
exercise for the reader @wind spoke
this is a funny comment from spi_hal.h "The hal is not public api, don't use in application code."
lol
That's the resolution of the screen I'm putting in one of my dev-boards 🙂
What's the current state of Lora in CPY?
Should be 4:3
Thanks Scott for another awesome Deep Dive 🙂

I need to use my 3D printer more
My printer has been one of the best things I've gotten recently
there is cool 3DMill 3d printer coming what design by naomi wu

😍
cable + community
We need to do a Lego Ideas pitch for CircuitPython...all the Characters, plus some kind of integration with mindstorms.
code + community = CircuitPython and cable + CircuitPython = Creativity
cable + circuitpython = stemma qt 😉
When I heard "Neopixel Ring", I thought along the lines of Captain Planet. By your LEDs combined....
hyped on ring mode!
Ring mode will be very useful
Tiny glowing Stargate!
ohhhh
that's a good idea for a project Bruce
3D print the Stargate and place the ring into it.
That project really adds up!
@lilac tusk also as you make those tiny pcb so as those stargates have lock symbol so some pcb for it
the release files are wrong but the code in git is right
good idea!
@rapid hornet needs a shave 🙂
😎
now we need
glasses what have transparent OLED display
@rapid hornet this is freaking awesome!
Something smells....fishy.

thanks @drifting arch !

hey... a little late to the stream.... why is it Circuit Python Day?
@split gazelle that project is so cool, its fascinating all the midi stuff that can be done
Brick by brick, line by line, now is CircuitPython's time.
thanks @nova totem!
great projects
@distant junco Because we decided it should be. We've been doing streams all day, and folks all over the world set up events as well. We wanted to celebrate CircuitPython 🙂
"Because we decided it should be" - I LOVE it
bubbles!
Very nice video 🙂
my kids would love that
I see wired LEGO!
@distant junco 9/9 is a snakey number. So we went with it. It was 8/8 last year, but with everything going on... we wanted more time this year.
Very polished demo 🙂
is that also the mask in your avatar @nova totem ?
@split gazelle Yes it is, I built the whole costume a couple years ago but it wasn't wired up for anything
nice!
if anyone is new to show and tell, let us know and we'll add you to the show & tell role
It's the snakiest day of the year
@nova totem nice project, glad you got mp3s to work (I adapted the mp3 library to work im circuitpython)
@robust horizon Thanks I saw all your in progress work on the mp3s so real glad to get an excuse to use them.
Great work everyone. Thanks for sharing.
great show everyone 🙂
great projects everyone!
Thanks everyone for sharing! You all make this an awesome place!
Great stuff 🙂 thanks all
Great projects and show. Amazing to see what CircuitPython can do
when it's ready 🙂
That was awesome...to see everyone come in
It's easily my favorite poster we've had for CircuitPython.

@clear matrix DS3502
Nice!
When I saw the debug-edge on Scott's board....to see my design...that was an awesome feeling.
We are enjoying the deep dives 🙂
🙂
@rapid hornet don't forget, lots and lots of reviews
that's community building 🙂
Id never touched Python before I heard about CP on here and now forget to put ; in C code cause I'm used to Python

Officially: No.
Unofficially: Doesn't hurt.
From the cat's purrspective: Meow. Yes. Meow.
that takes me back to my first microcontroller stuff circa 2002/2003, I had a 2x16 character LCD display and the photocopy of a datasheet that Limor mentioned. I did get the display to run, though.
Bonus points for owning more than 1 cat.
so.. this is so interesting (the how and why Circuit Python came to be)... maybe I'm just a sucker for the story behind the story....
🙂 the show and tell where I ask for a job is still up
Maybe I'll copy you on next weeks show and tell
Having to read and write code based on low level 1,000 page documents is a special skill, most to keep your sanity, so good job at it

I'd like to see LTDC support on the high-end STM32 MCUs...it'll really give graphics capabilities a boost, plus it's easy to connect to HDMI from that....
totally! hopefully jeff's framebuf stuff is a foundation for that
2nd thing, I'd love to see CPY have a full zephyr port, something I can't do on my own 😉
Thirdly, faster compilation (better build system)
Great idea @robust horizon for making it easier to find libraries. Why can’t a robot that bundle everything you need from a learn guide?
@rapid hornet interrupts 😉
I think that's what dan is interested in
I know there are lots of issues with it but having a way to add your own C code library would be nice. When I played with AHRS code CP is okay but the speed just isn't there (at least from my level!). But would be an interesting hook as people get more experience from someone who came from a C background into Python
"My First PR"
native c modules should be doable once we update our micropython base
Question - For background, I modified and compiled CPy for an ItsyBitsyM4 to support multiple displayIO (SPI) devices [thanks @rapid hornet and @paper peak for your notes on the github issue]. Anyway, I attempted to do the same with a PyPortal (adding a second displayIO option - with a goal of using a I2C OLED). The code compiled, but I can't seem to get both displays to work. Is that because (a) - it's not possible because [maybe the way the "native" 8 wire display is set up] or (b) maybe I just screwed up the code
Q: @adafruit. Thanks for CP day. CP lowering the bar for anyone to learn programming. Congrats to you and the team for building something inspiring. I'm trying to use openOCD with pi 3 to mass program my nrf52840 based boards. I got the bootloader burn to work. How can I burn in CP on the same pass?
If you wish to assist the folks at Lamba Labs continue to help out in the aftermath of the recent explosion, the links to the fundraisers are https://adafru.it/impactlebanon and https://adafru.it/globalshapersbeirut
@distant junco Not sure why it's not working. I can help you debug
Question for the show about Circuit python.. is it possible to get a “CPU % used” like you do on a PC/Mac?
You can get memory usage, but I don't know about microcontroller usage.
Memory is usually the more interesting/important piece of data to have.
There's nothing out there that's quite like CircuitPython....and that's exciting.
@rapid hornet Thanks. I'll post the sample code later this week. It's not a huge/pressing issue. Ultimately, I decided that I wanted color anyway, so I decided to wire the PyPortal to an ItsyM4 with I2C. This gives me color displays (SPI) and Capacitive Touch (with 1M resistors)
@echo canopy we don't track cpu usage ourselves
You could ask your future self "Did you VOTE" 🙂
@distant junco We'll be here. 🙂 A PR with your changes is helpful
you could arrange to set a pin HIGH during sleep and then look at it with a saleae or similar, or even just by setting up an RC filter and measuring it with ADC
@drifting arch That shouldn't even have to be asked 🙂
Good count on use of the word "fun" over the last hour (I lost track), but let's go for an even higher count next year! 🙂
@rapid hornet ugh... a PR means that I have to take the time to learn GITHUB :(... is there a circuit python for Github? (it's a joke)
there is an awesome kattni guide
Remember -- each and every one of you has reached out and changed people's lives for the better, whether or not you realize it. Some of us are on different, better paths because of your kindness, generosity, and hard work.
That is so rare to find with a job -- you're paid to make the world better. Not everyone has that opportunity, cherish it 🙂
@distant junco @rapid hornet It's a little out of date - GitHub updated the UI - but hopefully you can get what you need from it.
I hope to update it soon!
I second or third that @clear matrix ‘s guide is a godsend to get started. Bookmark it.
@clear matrix that guide helped me to figure out how github works. it always felt like a very mysterious thing before
I'm really glad to hear it!
@clear matrix that guide also helped me start and figure out github, and when I made my community bundle contribution
I really appreciate the feedback! I write guides, and put them out there, but I never really know if they're helping anyone since it's not an interactive process.
How does adafruit quantify the impact of the learn guides?
@rancid depot did you see my forum reply?
this was lovely, thank you all!
I use the guides so much, especially to look at pinouts etc...it's nice to have one place to get sample code, pinouts and datasheets...also the schematics are such an awesome resource.
Thanks @open girder and everyone. Happy CircuitPython Day!
Thank you for everything you do
😻
@light stump We have some data internally on how many folks read them and so on, but I'm not certain.
@kattni I just used your PR guide to submit my board to CP and it was great.
Thanks everyone, and thanks for CircuitPython!
Thanks adateam.... hugs from Sweden.

@open girder members helped me source the OLD relays 🙂
Speaking of STEMMA, I was going to add STEMMA to the ht16k33 backpacks, but the chips are hard to get ahold of, any chance you could stock those or are those chips getting sunsetted?
Tell Limor thanks for adding the VHIGH pin to that design 🙂
Awesome new jingle.
Love that jingle!
Like the new jingle
Noticed the BNO055 breakout dropped in price when it was Stemma'd (nice)
Definitely agree about getting better with each iteration 😬
I have one of those BNOs I just got when I saw that. In my use "soon" pile
giving me ideas
Pins might match between the two you've found (just rotated 90dev)

thanks much! I've been having a LOT of fun with this thing!
Thanks @haughty quiver !
BTW, I used some of your Range Slicer action in the demo today @inner spade :]
Excellent! Range Slicer was designed for that sort of application.
@cinder wind did you say Lars was back there somewhere?
I don't think so? maybe? always?
That's almost worse. The not knowing.
I think now it's aerosolized Lars all across California
ew, what!? ew!
Am I right in thinking Jarre had to use asbestos gloves with that laser harp?
That reminds me to mention, the VL53L0X laser is even safe to look at, no dangerous levels of lazing there.
The VL53LOX is an IR laser that's visible with most digital cameras. When I looked into it (the data not the laser itself) in 2016, the output level was considered safe for unprotected eyes.
ah, right on. I think it's also used in cameras for AF rangefinding!

lol go Phil !
and then Nvidia did similar to ARM chip
we used to actively avoid ftdi at work. now i actively hunt their chips, especially for simple stuff like ttl to 232, because I know they're gonna work. they really got their brand image to be pretty good

For questions. This is not a real/serious question, but I would still like an answer :)
Is it true that Adafruit is funding the movie Hackers II?
Question; the Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger can you talk about the EN1 and EN2 on the back of the PCB?
Yesterday was the 26th anniversary of Hackers. I scored the blu-ray during Ask an Engineer. Thank you Adafruit

Adafruit is Hackers 2

Hackers vs Crackers.
why are 10x 1 meter neopixel strips cheaper than 2x 5 meter reels? haha
Q: Will we see a pyportal with capacitive touch and ESP32-S2? (Reupping)
Repost Question; with Arduino can I connect the Adafruit Matrix Portal to Adafruit IO? I’d assume it needs a PIN modification? Or will it work just like a PyPortal ?
Question: Do you know of a distance sensor that works at around 1 to 10mm or even 40 to 50mm but with a high resolution around 0.1mm? Maybe something like ID: 164.

I went for the Adafruit Feather nRF52840 Sense (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4516) and the new/recent OLED featherwing (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4650) which includes a STEMMA QT / Qwiic connector.

Hi.
Yikes!
Just installed my purpleair sensor a few days ago
Hey, JP, my AQI system is the Pi 3B+ with Adafruit PM2.5 sensor out on the balcony, writing data every 5 minutes to a mySQL database inside, then a Pi Zero W reading the data, calculating AQI with the python-aqi library, and displaying it on the OLED Bonnet.
Audio died.
