@eager sapphire i don't really get how to reply to discord - sorry - it was just something fun for kids to do at dinner party and learn something new - so they learned how to use heat gun and understand hdpe - they left feeling empowered using a new tool - the heat gun - it was a fun melty skull xmas 😉
🚂 🚋 🚋 🚋 🚋 🚋
nice
Absolutely, @simple goblet , understood. It was just an interesting expression to understand immediately, like that
Q for the Q Section - how many of the pins on the Grand Central can use Touch IO?
Can it be powered over the micro-usb also?
we don't have touch support on the 51 yet
What about via Arduino? Ladyada's Touch library?
I'm not sure if dean did it
That whistle is STILL funny
is it possible to access the QSPI Flash (for logging and such) from c++ arduino code on the M4 boards?
Keyboards, train whistles... What a funny day. 😃
Can you do rgb on a e ink display?
RGB isn't possible yet on eInk due to the way the technology works.
Q: do you have 'Your Moment of Zener' wrapped canvas print avail for sale yet? say...24"w x 18" h available? thanks -- 😉
Thank you 😃
will circuit python work with the Particle mesh code
I’m new to circuit python where should I start?
@fiery coyote https://learn.adafruit.com/welcome-to-circuitpython Right here! 😃
@muted mesa any guess when it might? I would be glad to test out early versions
haha....Cable from Deadpool got his hopes up too.
Lol.
Congrats!
@smoky patrol well, as ladyada just mentioned, its not on the horizon to be added into the core. but, someone may start working on it. (i may have spoke out of turn with the "not...yet")
Thanks and good night.
Phil, you need a new train whistle!
@open girder Thanks again for another awesome evening of shows! You guys rock!
Another great show, @open girder 😃
thanks @open girder! way to rock the links @dim knot! everyone have a great evening & week!!

Night all.
@spring heath If the national parks were still open, I'd go to Steamtown National Historic site and send them a proper wooden train whistle 😃 🚅
night all!
night @rapid hornet
See ya all next week!
Thanks to the keyboard crew earlier this evening, my keyboard is now completely apart and I'm using my spare.
First off, keyboards are gross
Second, plan is to replace the pure-blue LEDs with RGB ones. Because I can. And likely replace the whole driver chip, also because I can.
Not sure where this goes (#general-tech?) But is there a Makefile or process for rebuilding the Fritzing library files? I see new file from @low fractal from just a few days ago, but it doesn't look like the library files are updated.... just hoping there's either a continuous integration (like @clear matrix manages for CP) or some script I can run?
@pearl shoal I'm not sure I understand the issue you're having.
Sorry - I tried to download the Adafruit Fritzing library
It doesn't have all the parts in the Parts folder
Like the M4 boards
parts were updated 8 days ago by @low fractal but the fzbz file with all the parts was not rebuilt
Mine is up to date...
Locally. I have the nRF52840 which is what was added.
Did you clone the repo?
I grabbed the file from the web interface
@pearl shoal Ohh.... the files in the main page of the repo? Ok yeah I have no idea how those work. I've always worked directly from a cloned copy of the repo which has all the parts in it.
Strange that it says they're 1 year out of date
Ok, I will clone and work from there
There's a parts folder that contains everything.
Yes, I found each one I needed
Just wanted to get the whole library
and it looked out of date
That it does.
Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
It's A Quiet Place, with Emily Blunt!
Too quiet.

I thought it was an “easy” button

EPO (emergency power off) under a lift cover or a shatter-glass panel. Those terrify me. Because usually they're connected to Halon.
DON'T PANIC

Lol.
or SCRAM in the control room...
Our labs had nitrogen sensors that took, oh, a year of proper calibration. We got a lil jaded. They’d go off at random.
Hold your breath, finish the test, run out lol
You're doing great 😃
@eager sapphire Given that the atmosphere is 79% nitrogen, I could see how that would be problematic.
If you want to get fancier, ask your High School Robotics Club for help 😃
I think they were set to something like ... 90% +
A serious nitrogen leak would displace oxygen quickly - but such a leak I’d think would be audible
Push-On Push-Off buttons might make sense too
What game are you playing? It looks like a good one for teaching use of XBox
I've been practicing with Minecraft (very boring)
Q: can the XAC accept open-collector or open-drain input or just switch contacts?
Wired correctly, (paying attention to ground and polarity) it should be OK w/a Darlington... but relays are always good
There's no limit to what you can do with limit switches!
And the Left and Right Triggers
Literally, drive it up the wall
Johnson
CoPilot is worth mentioning - it's not just for using two controllers, it lets one person (sibling, parent) manage some parts (motion) but gives one or two events to a child with severe limitations
Reach out to your high school robotics team if you need help with the soldering etc.
We (atmakers.org) can help them find them
I feel like I hijacked your show 😃
It’s an excellent cause and use of technology, @pearl shoal
Games with no timing issues are hard to find and great for teaching
Cool project. I like the fact that this could be done without soldering. Helps in educational settings.
Excellent project @haughty quiver. Looking forward to your guide.
Nice work, John!
Good stuff. 😃
@haughty quiver Thanks for another VERY awesome show!
👍
@haughty quiver thanks for this workshop
you're very welcome, I appreciate you coming by -- it's getting late in Gemany!
i got there late, but what I caught was cool!
Off now to watch @dense marlin YT videos. Great show JP.
For those following along, HID Gamepad support via the two USB ports is ... forthcoming
Basically HID Joystick (which nobody does) works if you match their expectations exactly
HID Gamepad doesn't yet work correctly
but @paper peak and I are working to adapt CircuitPython to match their expectation and Bryce is working to improve support for more common gamepad setups.
Look for an update in the next few weeks
@fallen siren hope you enjoy my little jams
@pearl shoal this is awesome info!
The PlayStation Classic uses USB joysticks, I wonder if they're HID
@prime sentinel I was considering that myself -- look how precipitous the price drop has been for the PSC since release.
I am holding out for a fire sale to grab a few for "parts" and experimentation.
I've read some of the teardowns, it looks like it's just an emulator in a box, and the firmware dump lists a ton of games that aren't on it, but presumably were tested.
Most of these "classic" consoles are exactly that -- a linux board in a box. Which I have no complaints about, it's a smart move to repurpose old intellectual property.
But they're very limited in terms of what they can do -- can't import/export data, no network connectivity, etc. Even short controller cords (seriously, nintendo?)
So, I look at them as a novelty until someone takes it from 75% to 100%....and adds some innovative features. But that would mean doing work, and well....it's easier to toss ROMs and be done with it.
@waxen thistle If I remember correctly, some of the roms on the NES classic were traced to have been downloaded from a rom site.
Can I talk with someone from custom service quickly?
I’m trying to convince my school board to buy Circuit Playground Express?
Quebec, Canada!!!!
Your product is not even on the famous ministry of Quebec education.
Did you guys send some promo to school board in each provinces in Canada or you’re not there yet?
Suggest you post in Adafruit's support forum. They have been very responsive in my experience. https://forums.adafruit.com/
Thanks CGrover, I’ll try that
@bronze stratus Knowing le ministère de l'éducation, maybe they passed on the Circuit Playground Express for lack of French labeling, documentation and the like. I remember when working in a Cegep that acquiring components and devices for usage by students proved tricky if not fully translated and localized
Thank you odevee but probably you’re right with that. But, ...CPE is so great, I really wished language would not be an issue especially since I am an ESL teacher and using CPE already with my students. I bought them with my own $ and with Le Plan Numérique each school have a budget to buy stuff but unfortunately since CPE is not on THE list, I won’t be able to buy CPE.
@bronze stratus Circuit Playground Express is indeed an awesome device. Not just for students but also as a cool platform to keep around when experimenting. I truly love mine and it's my go to when I want to try stuff on SAMD21 without busting out all the equipment. It's not awesome that Le Plan Numérique doesn't take that device into account. Hopefully that list will be revised soon.

well, would solder molten in zero g? (i don't know...just a question)
I think they'd cool pretty quickly
Let’s ask NASA to test it out
You know what else doesn't work in zero-g? Candles. They need the hot air rising to get fresh oxygen.
Question for later - the BNO055 seems to switch modes as it gets & loses calibration... I think this is normal. Is there a way to get it to stay in relative mode? When it gets/loses the north pole signal it jumps around.

I have no idea what these were originally for, but I've used them in a few different projects over the years https://www.allelectronics.com/item/dcm-351/24-vdc-gear-motor-w/turntable/1.html

Thanks @haughty quiver -- I'll add them to the list 😃
Heh, I've used that motor too, once for a voice activated toilet flusher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J92J7MNGA-k
Whoops, misremembered. That motor got used for a zoetrope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M47AYXoCS2k
Best not mistake the zoetrope for the toilet!

@rapid hornet totally agree. Here's one guy who's done just that: https://www.facebook.com/midilar.controller/
⏱
@haughty quiver 's MakeCode Minute was 2min 2sec of racing
neopixel strip goodness!
⏱
zoooom
@haughty quiver Perhaps you should call it the MakeCode Moment...
@lavish patrol Then he'd have about 90 seconds
I'm actually happy to see the non-USB boards no longer being supported
Streamlines CP a lot and makes things a lot easier
@haughty quiver the polymod has fake patch cords too
French might be the language of love, but CircuitPython is the language of making.
👍 Colin Furze.
yes, so great! It adjusts the Audio Design Tool sketch based on connections in real world.
making, also the language of love
@rapid hornet here's a video of the Midilar in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21u9UMQF1ZI
Since a couple of weeks now I got a chance to play with Midilar, the modular MIDI controller, in VCV Rack, and I have to say, it's a unique experience, havin...
yup, subscribed to that channel
if you want a really sweet distraction, please write a module for VCV rack that gives you a CircuitPython console sort of like the monome Teletype :)
haha, I have too many distractions
@rapid hornet look, SHINY OBJECT
I know :)
I have to order parts for the pygameboy rev
then another one, won't have a large impact... 😄
@rapid hornet I was just going to ask about that
This screen board will probably be the heart of v2 of my smarthome node (which is long overdue).
Word on the street is Scott added MIDI to it...
yusss!
A sound idea!
Music to my ears!
It hits the right note.
Making in harmony.
@odd stream I was playing with my build of your CircuitPython signal generator today and realized the FeatherWing Tripler fits an altoids tin sized 3D printed case nicely
Certainly in tune.
@haughty quiver For a moment, my brain thought you had 3D printed a FeatherWing Tripler
yoinks
I thought he’d 3D printed an altoids tin
i did
I want to experiment with 3D printing PCBs and then electroplating the conductive filament with copper. See if you can then solder to it
Then I accidentally understood you
LOL
I was trying to be puzzled. Still, those ‘hot’ wintergreen mints are worth buying both for the mints and the case, I say
❤ Metro M4 Express Wifi ❤
I think it was this one https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2561792
Nice, since so many projects are sized for an Altoids tin - very thoughtful
Curiously strong projects.

Was Circuit Python 4 updated on rPi too?
@wooden beacon CircuitPython itself doesn't run on Raspberry Pi. The libraries work on Raspberry Pi with the Blinka wrapper library.

Welcome to my new life... it consists largely of feeding the cat and searching for her catnip mouse when she inevitably looses it.
@odd stream: Project idea: Catnip Mouse Finder. Cat presses (wall-mounted) cap-touch surface. In another room, piezo embedded in catnip mouse beeps. Inspiration: https://hackaday.com/2018/09/21/make-an-electric-skateboard-for-your-cat/
@slow spire Hmmmm... I like it.
I like the way they motivated cat interaction by dispensing a treat.
@vernal mulch odd
@haughty quiver That's a nice print. Turned out perfectly. Now... if only I had it in Fusion360 so I could add bolt standoffs for mounting the trippler, add access holes, etc.
Hmm, tripler? Like a voltage multiplier? Or the FeatherWing multiplier?
The 3-wide feather "base"
@odd stream I brought the .stl into Rhino and boolean differenced out some holes I needed for something.

Twitch forgave me!
Fire in the hole!
All the bleeps and all the bloops.
Hi @eager sapphire it's a show on Cartoon Network

Thanks JP, just cutting in line with that one, really :^)

Steven Universe on Sky Ch.601 (Cartoon Net HD) at 1:30am GMT
@haughty quiver The inconsistent BPM, do you think that's in the hardware or in MakeCode's implementation of it?
ok....that piano keyboard popup is pretty rad.
Note that in my experience when copying text in JavaScript (probably not possible to copy blocks) and pasting for new stanzas or from one example to another, MakeCode does not allow pasting text in JavaScript with right or left mouse buttons: key stroke of Ctrl +v works for me. Mouse click does work for copying; just not pasting-odd, MakeCode.
"I'm inside the code"....finally, proof we're all part of the MakeCode Matrix.
Lawnmower Man?
Is there a scheme in Make Code to store those notes as an array (and loop through it instead)?
Does anyone remember BASIC's PLAY function?
E.g. typedef struct {int note, len} NOTE_T; NOTE_T music[length] = {....}
Instead of all those function calls
I do, Andy, wow time warp
Long time ago. There was also a DRAW function.
@lavish patrol BBC BASIC?
And even a variety called BÁSICA
Lol.
And BASCOM. Wow. Time travel.
Ah. The 1980s.
The past is another country. Where does that reference/quote come from anyway?
“The past is a foreign country” - JP Hartley (apparently). (Whoops that’s LP Hartley)
Thanks for this John
Thanks for another awesome show @haughty quiver !
Very welcome, thanks
Indeed thanks
Thanks, @haughty quiver
Thanks
Ok talking and typing at the same time — or, there is lag in these parts
Really enjoyed it @haughty quiver Thank you.
Super!
thanks, awesome show @haughty quiver
@waxen thistle I think the hardware could play the bpm consistently, it just doesn't seem to match the real world of BPM
Might ask you some time, since I have bought your boop toon, what , besides acknowledgement do you require for use on MakeCode and Hardware and MakeCode and Arcade YouTube channels with video? Allowed with your name and link to purchase site? Or not allowed, we understand if that is the case.
I must away... night all. 🙂
@random urchin sure, an acknowledgment and link -- here's the CC license I used: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/
OK, thanks.
@eager sapphire yes, great idea, I think I've put measures of notes that repeat in to loops before
