You sound fine on my end
Good afternoon all you wonderful people!
Excited for the NeoPix Trellis -- UPS is dropping off a couple today!
Who's pressing John's buttons?
That would be really handy for a DAW work
I haven't figured out what I might use this for.. but I want to... so cool.
We're ready!
Hummingbird rocket pants is pretty niche.
But if you need those words, youโve got it covered.
Its a tarp
That is great fun JP!
Audio is good.
LOL Janisku I said the same thing cleaning the shed today, trying to figure out what a giant sheet of plastic was โ itโs a tarp!
Choraplast? Kora-plast? What is this magic?
No, no... it's true. I am a sicko. sigh
Clever project, @haughty quiver .
Twitch is having issues.
I thought it was my network.
A few UV LEDs and some luminescent paint on the ants/spiders.
As is youtube - lots of buffering
And youtube is buffering greatly.
same here for youtube
@eager sapphire Ok, it's not just me then
No, lots of packet drops as well
@haughty quiver We might be seeing network issues -- twitch and youtube are having live broadcast Gnomes rummaging around the packets....
stream stopped
260p John Park's Slideshow workshop
It's at Rap?
it is indeed a wrap
It's really choppy & start/stop
Ok a few packets are making it through
sorry for the network issues, not sure what happened
Trap
YouTube is running but very choppy.
Network said its a trap
this whole thing has been a packet trap

Valiant fight against the technology gremlins, @haughty quiver
Another show full of clever exploitable ideas @haughty quiver thanks!!
@haughty quiver Thanks for a wonderful show, we're sorry the network didn't cooperate with you.
Loved this particular show @haughty quiver so many great ideas! THank you!
very welcome, thanks for the kind words
cool ideas, thank you
@odd stream Those fiendish technology gnomes had it out for us again!
The HalloWing is sooo versatile, especially with CPy bitmap graphics support. Thanks for showing us a spectrum of ideas.
you bet, I think we'll see lots of very innovative and fun projects from people using it. Plus, it's a skull.
I'm really digging these multi-function boards with a plethora of sensors, neopixels, displays on them like the hallowing and the CPX
Anything that avoids breaking out the big box of breadboards, leds, and resistors is a win in my book --- reduce the barrier to entry in every way possible.
yes, any friction you can remove from the process of trying an idea quickly is very welcome!
When teaching, it's so hard to build momentum & interest....yet so terribly easy to lose it.
Like calling 'em "You people" for example. ;)
https://giphy.com/gifs/star-wars-trap-its-a-l0DEJBPAYHW7XLCp2 @haughty quiver could this show in hallowing?
Not able to do gifs or movies currently, but maybe one day?
perhaps one day @haughty quiver
encode gif/movie to undestandable way to hallowing that might be possible
maybe seperate all the frames and switch between the bitmaps fast?
That's a good approach in general I think. Currently the switching between bitmaps is not fast, however.
@haughty quiver MXChip board what i have use shakeshake animation for animating shake with static const unsigned char shakeimg []
you animate It's a trap like that then it would be good
if you compine them to list of images what contain hex values it could work
try this for it as it could work https://pixelcraft.cc/
Wooooooo!! Im home from work today so i actually get to watch 3D hangouts for once in a great blue moon
@lean grail yay, special saber segment just for you ๐

Anybody get the new AdaBox yet? Mine is suppose to arrive tomorrow.
@heavy siren I've seen several people mentioned that theirs had arrived.
@heavy siren mine has arrived, also noticed a few on youtube still waiting too
Yes I got the Adabox a week ago.
@heavy siren The newest (I don't have my hardcopy yet) has inductors.
@past nova it must be a Canadian thing.
@halcyon linden yeah
@hard hollow @rocky reef Those horns are begging to be animated.
@halcyon linden I guess DHL is a fast shipper
@odd stream Oh, right, Inductnce. I have my hardcopy but just scanned the mag. Haven't been able to read anything yet. Been busy with my new job.
DHL is fast most of the time. order one day, it ships the next ( I seem to order in the evening), and arrives the second day. I'm not far from NYC, though.
with DHL if I order before noon I usually get it next day in Hamilton, Ontario.
@halcyon linden I am in Beamsville, Ontario
@halcyon linden @past nova London ON here.
Why not both???

@haughty quiver Yup, @split gazelle suggested a tail. That motor was perfect when I thought about what was needed.
Lol I'm going to have a new robotic friend joining next week. ๐
sorry @split gazelle I totally spaced on your handle!
thanks for the great cat parts related ideas for those little motors :)
โCat partsโ
Out of context, that would be very bad.
Great for prototyping, but doesn't stand up to a lot of use/abuse.
cool! nicely done
Cardboard is a great inexpensive way to reuse existing materials for projects with a short usage span. But nope, it certainly doesn't hold up well.
my cat is pulling out parts. cant upgrade my server around her

@eager sapphire TOS is almost a different genre.
Hummingbird Rocket Pants is the name of my next band.
deploy the rocket pants
i too compose my emails in nano

Don't tell anyone, but this actually how they did the fema broadcast today
i still like using ole ArdIDE for the CPX, i almost always have the poor things doing very tricky functions.

how does circuitpython on the tinyFPGA work? does the FPGA chip have an MCU coprocessor of some sort?

Thanks @fallen rivet
Quick question for anyone. How far does BLE work.??? Would 60 feet be too far???
Does he DJ or just does it for fun?
yeah, 60ft is definitely stretching it unless you get a very good transciever
@heavy siren it depends on a lot of things (antenna, output power, data rate, blah, blah, blah)
Ok, thanks guy's.... ๐
I hate it when blah interferes with ble
There are hundreds/thousands of yards demos for BLE5, but 5 isn't absolutely necessary.
With devkits, no particularly fancy antennas.
See SiLabs demos on YT.
Oh no...hope mine comes before then ๐ค
Mine has not shipped
@normal plover Don't underestimate the power of blah.
Mine shipped today, expected delivery date is Friday
Ok? I haven't gotten any notification of it having shipped?

@slow flint You mean the wram? ๐
Getting Started with Circuit Playground Express Book Bundle https://www.adafruit.com/product/3977
so wright
a bunch of flash chips do QSPI in SOIC-8, including the one on the metro M4
I got that book on my Kindle. Mike did a great job.
โBig Books are Scaryโ
@spring heath ๐
@lament sluice then perhaps. Sure would be nice. 5 for data+clk, pwr and gnd -- should actually work.
Almost can't imagine RAM access for anything but logging with only one SPI channel.
That is actually an awesome book @quick veldt -- along with the lab guide.
Iโve heard good things about it
Nice love the pic @slow flint . The Doctor lol, and those angry eye brows.
I'm sure that the Espressif datasheet talks about it.
Adafruit NeoPXL8 Friend - 8 x Strands NeoPixel Level Shifter https://www.adafruit.com/product/3975
Since we first started carrying NeoPixels back in 2012, the chainable RGB LEDs have taken over the world. And a big part of that success is due to the simplicity of their wiring - just one ...
yeah i might look it up later
hehe. i'm looking it up now. questions...need answers. ๐
@odd stream Is that a set of books you have experience with?
There would have to be a channel select pin also unless it's on its own SPI bus, and that could be the 8th pin.
@waxen thistle Yes. Not an easy read.
@ivory kiln i have a bit more in common with capaldi , and i changed my avi on every service to that due to mood ๐ kinda.
Lol. Lots of LEDs.
"you have question we have answer"
Sorry, I used "it's" and "its" correctly in the same sentence. You won't see that on the Adafruit website... ๐
@waxen thistle It's sort of "So you think you know what computer programming is? Mr. Knuth laughs at you."
Meant for an intermediate-advanced programmer, comfortable with most CS topics? @west vigil
I feel like Arduino is in the rear view mirror nowadays.
lol, nice @slow flint
Arduino hardware
and im actually tinkering with the time vortex as we speak, so it all works out
lol
Kind of hard for Arduino hardware to compete with amazing adafruit hardware
Iโm a bit biased toward black circuit boards ;)
I'm looking forward to this Sunday, when the new season of Doctor Who starts. ๐
bounces in place...yazz
This Sunday??? @lavish patrol
@quick veldt Arduino has its place -- you can manage memory and code very directly with a lot of control. But it's not beginner friendly like CircuitPython + Mu. I look at it as "the right tool for the job."
@ivory kiln In the UK.
Well, every Circuitpythonadafruit board has Arduino support and Circuitpython
ESP-WROVER-B datasheet mentions "features 4MB SPI flash/8MB SPI PSRAM", but mentions support for "multiple external QSPI flash and SRAM chips". so...yesno?
lol
@lavish patrol Wait, the new DW is this weekend?! Woah. Time has sure gone by fast.
Ya, but US networks will probably start it, if not then soon there after.
Are you going to do a crickit for the metro m0 express?
I donโt think thatโs very practical
I don't think BBC America is far behind. Probably the following week.
Feather form factor is much more convenient than Metro
Did you hear? Disney is going to remake the Star Wars prequels!
Though, I question one of their new changes -- Darth Vader's mother is going to be named "Ella".
Ella Vader. Don't push her buttons.
Metro is probably still made just to keep compatibility with many many Arduino UNO hats
This is really nicely done.
winder if i can use it for my prop rifle
@waxen thistle - that was so terribly awful, it was funny
I mean, metro also has 5v Logic right?
will it be on Android tho?
"Lasers"
what if i scan the Adafruit QR code skill badge?
Be ready guys! Iโve got lots of questions tonight ;)
Lasers. Just... lasers.
Now it just needs a Freaking shark. ๐
This vs ultrasonic?
Poor MOSFET.
TFmini Infrared Time of Flight Distance Sensor https://www.adafruit.com/product/3978
wonder how fast it can register if it were on a motor , full 360 scanning
He was a happy kitteh.
๐ฆ
i sent in a really nice-looking $100-class scanning LIDAR sensor through the contact form a few weeks ago...
@lavish patrol , BBCA is airing the season premiere at the same time as BBC, 1:45pm EDT this Saturday.
Beagebone? I havenโt heard that name in ages!
Does the LIDAR have a minimum range???
the store code really should be time lady related... thats my vote
Doctor Who?
Hey Adafruit, when will we be getting Feather M4s with different things on it like the Lora or bluetooth or sd card readers etc?
i use 2 pies at my business for monitoring my network remotely
The home pick-n-place is sitting right next to you
Lol, not a pic n place, YET...
Q: Have you heard of the feather compatible particle.io Argon micro-controller? Will it be possible to have Wifi + Bluetooth CircuitPython support with this board? It uses a nRF52840 and ESP32 coprocessor.
m4 metro (full size) with go faster stripes?
I meant Phil himself. I remember a video of him placing a part.
the metro M4 is great because it has infinitely more Ms than the M0
i mean, i am doing the time vortex tinkering with the itsy bitsy after all.
@quick veldt yep..its been discussed. a lot of the CircuitPython devs pre-ordered the new particle boards...pretty sure it will get supported. will need to get the nRF52840 port finished first. ESP32...no ETA. (can't wait till my Argons get in).
I want the Circuit Playground Express M4
Yeah but what about Circuitpython wifi and Bluetooth support?
Will the Convex Plastic Lens with Edge - 40mm Diameter be in stock soon? And will I get one with my Adabox???
Sober Hacktober.
@heavy siren yup in the box
it would be nice to put octoprint on the CPX
@past nova Oh, great, thanks.
"The more you give, the more you get." --- sage advice, Phil @open girder
Q: Any new info on the Adafruit pIRkey? It has been โcoming soonโ for a while, the reason being that they were being updated to Circuitpython 3.0. Any updates?
i've always wanted a bundle
RING RING... im the first caller... ME ME

forgot to mention the details on the 3D printed figure i had: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2222384
@haughty quiver What do you think about Mr. StickyBones? I've never seen a figure that articulated, but the price is...steep for a hobbyist.
it is excellent. You probably won't find anything as articulated and that holds a pose well for less.
I used to have an 18" "super poseable" spider-man action figure that was awesome, but also pretty darned heavy. and specific.
Some of the higher end wooden artist's mannequins are worth checking out, too.
Also, you can get pretty decent ball and hinge metal stop motion armatures for $50-$75.
look on Amazon
some are better than others at holding poses w/o lots of re-tightening.
I will take a look. Thank you @haughty quiver
Fun show @haughty quiver, even with the video glitches. Lego stopmotion is cool. Old school claymation is great fun.
thanks @odd stream !
thanks @hard hollow yes, Stop Motion Studio is the one I used toda
today
it's free and works great, available for iOS, android, win, mac os
I used something at one point on OSX that used an iPhone as the capture camera. It was pretty cool.
Oh, great reminder! Tethered is a great way to go. iStopMotion can do that.
There are some that let you use iPhone as the camera and iPad as the screen and controller and playback, which is super cool.
Yes, Boinx!
Dragonframe can use iPad as the camera, computer as capture, but most people use a DSLR or mirrorless w DF.
Hmm... I'm wondering how it could be used for doing physical build videos. Seems like it would work: taking stills and stitching them together.
@inner spade did a nice build video as stop motion https://youtu.be/K1Rzu0hYI9I

@quick veldt Such things happen, those pesky internet gnomes love to cause mischief during broadcasts
@proper trench Are all of the female headers connected to the M0 chip or just enough for featherwings?
they aren't all labeled if I recall correctly
@quick veldt the JSTs do not go to the feather headers
they are connected to the 'remaining' pins
so there's no pin conflicts
Nice engineering for the plugin neopixel strip

thanks @lavish stream !
Ooo, guessing from the other comments, that I'm behind.
@ivory kiln you could do it! just send a signal from one to the other over the sensor port

Nice unboxing @haughty quiver
Thank you @haughty quiver
but we don't hvae an example for it (yet)
Great job, @haughty quiver!

@haughty quiver have you done a speed test from your wirecast box?
normally ask for engineer would be going still
yes got 12mbps up right befor the show!
hrm, weird!
@proper trench Will I get a new new new new new fix tonight?
Appreciate the thought put into preparing Adabox contents and the plethora of supporting projects. Nicely done, Adafruit!
Does anyone know what kind of glue would be best to adhere the Hallowing screen to the back light?
@slow spire lol
@slow spire we do have some new products in the shop - DOUBLE NEW next week!
new new new new new!
Fun Fact: http://fast.com uses netflix's servers to speed test, wile the other speed test website uses a random server near you.
How fast is your download speed? In seconds, Fast.com's simple Internet speed test will estimate your ISP speed.
Pew pew pew pew pew pew
@ivory kiln what do you mean? like tape?
@ivory kiln I would try Devcon epoxy.
The new song always makes my day
@ivory kiln - we use double sided foam tape but any tape will work just fine

ADABOX 009 UNBOXING LIVE 10/10/18 @adafruit #AskAnEngineer #adafruit #halloween #adabox009
Lol, we need to get audio to work on here @haughty quiver it's not the same without Limor singing it.
@haughty quiver weird, that should be enough
Double sided Carpet tape from Ace or any hardware is thin and very sticky and strong.
๐ถ new new new ๐ต
@rapid hornet I agree, something odd seems to be going on
well not tape @proper trench but something that would get it to stick to the back light like it's designed to
i have found that the internet likes to slow on weds nights when we are live, or at least, it's the most memorable
@proper trench What do you think of a rectangle Circuit Playground that has the same functions and sensors as the CPX but more pins and female headers. It could be smaller than an Uno formfactor but larger than a feather, to fit all the sensors. I think breadboarding is an important skill to learn, and I much prefer it over alligator pads personally. :)
spoopy internet grimlins eating bytes....
I believe there is adhesive around the edges of the screen that stick it to the backlight
try wrapping tape around the edges, usually these screens dont like being yanked, but they can be taped back on ๐
@haughty quiver its a new machine too right? the video encoding should be easy for it
pesky internet @open girder !
(a) where is the eye source code? (b) I want to synchronize the eyes to get both show the same thing (c) I want one of the eyes to follow an accelerometer /gyro so they move the way I move my head (control direction). goal is to control one eye, and have the other follow it.
yes, it's seeming to be healthy as far as the encoding goes. @rapid hornet
O sorry @proper trench , I missed ur next post to me. Really that's just double sided foam tape?
@quick veldt no plans at this time but we'll think about it. most people go from a CPX to a feather and then breadboard all the sensors they need ๐
not the case w my old machine!
@quick veldt Or how about a round breadboard to go with CPX? ๐
@ivory kiln yep!
I wouldn't have guessed it would have been something so simple. ๐
@plucky glen Ladyada suggested using serial for the two to communicate when I asked her the very same thing last week.
I'm so psyched that I've got so many things built for Halloween already this year, thanks to the Adabox !
@proper trench any suggestions on how best to safely remove the old foam tape? So I can put on new?
HalloPark
ha!
@plucky glen @heavy siren @ivory kiln maybe y'all can work on it together ๐
JohnWeen
@ivory kiln carefully scraping it with a spatula type thing?
we dont remove the tape usually
rubbing alcohol?
I'm pretty upset that I'll be at a work conference during Halloween. I'm thinking I'll bring Hallowing to wear in lieu of my normal lame badge to make me feel better.
that's a great solution @lavish stream !
We use baby oil. I make tape for a living.
thanks @fallow fractal that's great to know
Cool, I'm all for a team effort! Then we three can do a right up
