thank you everyone for being part of his life with us
we'll see you all next week, be excellent to one another, and cats too 😃
@open girder Lovely tribute.
@open girder Thank you for allowing him to be a part of ours
Wonderful, loving tribute.
absolutely beautiful tribute, rest in peace little budy
We also lost my awesome and terrible Hugo last year. I miss him every day still 😦
I just had a thought that there should be a large framed photograph of Mosfet hanging on a wall in the lobby area of Adafruit so it is seen by everyone as they enter the facility.
We should all do the coloring page of Mosfet and post them here
anybody on here own a 3d printer or have experience buying one
Good idea, @pseudo harbor . Here's the link to it in the store and downloadable PDF version https://www.adafruit.com/product/1000 http://adafruit-coloringbook.s3.amazonaws.com/coloringbook_9-17-2012.pdf
@open girder Kim and I are so sorry for your loss, what a special furry friend he was. such a sweet tribute. we feel for you guys 😦
@torpid ferry I just got a Prusa i3mk3
thats one im looking at
@torpid ferry It's my first
but it seems that the anet a8 or 6 is just as good
for far less the price if your willing to put in the man hours
Not familiar with it
Admittedly I didn't shop around much. I've been looking half-seriously at various ones for some time. The mk3 was announced and I liked the feature list.
😦
😢 so sad to hear of Mosfet's passing. A lovely tribute .. and a much-to- be missed member of the Adafruit Team I'm sure. Thoughts are with LadyAda/Phil. RIP Mosfet.
Mosfet the cat farewell to cat heaven
Oh no, bye mosfet. Losing a cat isn't fun, I've had 3 cats for 10 years until last year I lost one. Cats are good animals, and they teach us more than we think
@open girder I didn’t say much earlier, as I was still processing what happened. And when it comes to things like this, I’m not good with my words. In our own ways, I think we all stumble to make sense of things. But I’ve given this a bit of thought, and wanted to share what was on my mind.
I believe I speak for everyone here when I say, we are deeply sorry for your loss. It was always clear the love and affection that you had for Mosfet, and that same love helped shape the community and even the maker world as it is today. Without Mosfet, I think Adafruit and the maker world would be a very different place.
Mosfet was also very much loved by this community. Though he never spoke, he always had a lot to say. He was more than a mascot, he was family. I think we’ll all hold our four legged friends a bit closer tonight, give them a special treat just to remind them…and ourselves…of just how much we love them.
Since the very beginning, you have done so much for your community. Now it’s our turn to be here for you. Our thoughts are with you during these times.
A part I was going to use for today's build is DOA, so I'm open to suggestions for what to build today. Any thoughts?
Any interest in seeing how to make your own lock picks?
Only if you address how inaccurately they do it on TV and in the movies 😉
*here, let me insert two hair pins into the lock, rummage around for a moment, then CLICK....I remove both and open the door.
No lock ever behaves like that.
Right! I'm still impressed when a show uses a tensioner and a pick at least, and not some magic skeleton key :) low standard, huh?
Mr. Robot did a good job, although for reasons of pacing it always is about 100x faster than real life.
My respect jumps ten-fold when they break out a tensioner! I'm like...wow! The producer did their homework.
Then in the next scene, they "crack" a multi-digit keypad by solving one digit at a time.
I can't say I've seen Mr. Robot -- I watched the first 3-4 episodes, then for some reason I didn't keep following. Is it worth a watch?
I'm a huge fan.
Yeah, homemade lock picks with stuff you'd commonly find around home...or a purse. Try the ol' paperclip + hair pin routine.
@haughty quiver Sprung steel brushes from street sweepers make great picks.... Just sayin'. 😃
Yowza! That's quite the collection!
I started collecting them in 1985, but things really took off when I moved to Burbank, where you can find one every two blocks.
Ok, then I vote for "make your own picks" for the show!
I have enough stock to make one for every viewer! :]
That'd be cool, but then there would be shipping. I had a really nice set, but then taught my daughter to use them. They've been appropriated. 😃
nice! Well, I think sharing the knowledge of how to make them will be the next best thing to sending them out :)
I wouldn’t mind a handmade pick
Although, I’m still awaiting for someone to do video on making tensioner
so some project
You got it! I'll be making tensioners and picks then @turbid elbow
Well, I’m trying to get a hold of lock Smith that makes them in your neck of woods
Evening all. Made it to JP's workshop for once.
Snowed in, is why. ❄ 🌨 ❄

We're here 😃 Just watching (and minding a few other things).
nice work @haughty quiver
Very nice work indeed!
We made it 🙂
Thanks @haughty quiver 😃
Excellent, glad you liked it and could see it! My computer is gasping.
When you brought out the dremel, you said where to place the metal on the rotating part so that it's safe. Do you have a list of general dos and don'ts when it comes to dremel tools that you can share?
Ah, one thing I recommend is unplug or pull battery on portable before chucking in new tools. Too easy to accidentally start it up w fingers on the bad place.
Ouch.
Thanks John
Also, it's tempting to hand tighten some of the chuck types they have, but don't. Use the lock button and the little wrench!
Welcome @onyx arrow
Dremmel has a few Quick release/lock attachments that makes it way easier to securely attach tool heads
Oh, yes, that's right! I like the cutoff discs that fit that tool head.
I much prefer the corded ones because the batteries on the others dont last nearly as long as I'd like
Another fun dremel use is to chuck work onto it -- instant bead lathe!
This attachment is useful https://www.bunnings.com.au/dremel-225-flex-shaft-direct-drive-attachment_p6325587
@onyx arrow I'm with you so much on that -- I have about 3-4 mostly dead dremel batteries and keep vowing to never replace them.
I just reach for the corded one instead.
ha ha- same here. I end up using the sub standard rotary tool because the battery runs out
I'm not selling bunnings 😉
I remember a really nifty hobby dremel -- wireless, battery powered, pistol grip. Really ergonomic. But after reading reviews saying it was a non-replaceable battery, I noped right out of that purchase.
I'm sticking with my Grizzly tools knock-off dremel. 😃
Just the local hardware store
@onyx arrow Bunnings are opening stores in the UK.
The attachment is called - Dremel EZ402 EZ Lock Mandrel
I cant go in there without taking something home with me
I did a bunch of projects for a Make: magazine/Dremel campaign a few years back -- I linked them here: https://jedgarpark.wordpress.com/make-with-dremel/
@haughty quiver Thanks
Fine on YouTube
I use an Ozito as well and the reason I prefer dremel (or any other better manufactured rotary tool) is when there's too much friction on the tool and it starts spinning freely, it starts spinning much faster than the setting i set it to
Dremmel seems to regulate the speed much better
and there are many more fittings for it - at Bunnings at least
Good to know -- I think I've always used Dremel brand so didn't know what the differences were.
did i miss it ?
Hi @covert stag finished up about 5pm EST.
ahh I was in the creative lab
Oh, sorry people, due to my technical issues I forgot to tell you the 10% off code today is SWEEPER
Thanks for todays workshop @haughty quiver until next time
Thanks for the Dremel project link, @haughty quiver. I think my grandson is ready for the soda bottle muffler project. I recall seeing that before, but had forgotten about it. I relish in creating projects for the nieces/nephews/grandkids that produce noise. BTW, harmonicas are also a wonderful parent torture device in the hands of two nephews at the start of a 4-hour drive home from the uncle's house. You're welcome. 😉
Haha, that's awesome @inner spade
here's my bike muffler in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni-mXPfiHHg&feature=youtu.be
I turned an expired gift card and an aluminum energy drink bottle into a loud spoke noise resonator. http://blog.makezine.com/2010/12/08/make-a-soda-bottle-b...
@haughty quiver Oh yeah. That's the noise I'm looking for...
Evil.
LOL
I only provide the tools and the materials. Okay, and a few ideas, too.
here kid, make noise
... on your way home. Can you tell my kids are all grown-up?
Perhaps it's payback for my suppressed memory of that one episode in middle school where I had to leave work early and talk to the principal...
Anyway, thanks John!
If you don't like your neighbors, give their kid a drum kit. 😀
I just thought I'd pop back in here to mention my upcoming project - a simple one. It's a tribute to Mosfet the cat: https://acallaway1957.blogspot.co.uk/2018/03/new-project-cat-lamp.html
I've had the thing sitting around for a while, but now I've been inspired to go ahead with it.
I like it.

Wheeled robots drive innovation.
Haha.
bah, lost one monitor's power supply
what is the easiest way to do this as a python staement:
#define LFSR_MASK ((unsigned long)( 1UL<<31 | 1UL <<15 | 1UL <<2 | 1UL <<1 ))
def spiwrite():
global cmd
for i in range (7,-1,-1):
sclk.value = 0
if (cmd & (1 << ((i)))):
sid.value = 1
else:
sid.value = 0
sclk.value = 1
Uses a similar idea (just a bit similar) and is working code.
afaict it promotes 1 to a power of two indexed by the range of the 'for' construct.
Then performs an AND test on it (essentially to test if a bit is set or reset in 'cmd').
Bitbangs a logic '1' if the bit was set. Bangs a zero, if not.
Runs backwards because of the order in which the bits must be sent to the listening device (an LCD controller chip that wants to see/hear the MSBit first).
I don't know what the rules are for bitshifting using that operator and what the operands do, exactly. I use it like voodoo as the syntax escapes me. Not too difficult to guesswork it until its correct (but not trival for me, either).
@void widget I may not understand the context of your question, but the value of LFSR_MASK is just 0x80008006 , correct? so does LFSR_MASK = const (0x80008006) do what you are looking for? Sorry if I am way off base since I did not hear the broadcast you may be referring to.
or better yet : ```>>> LFSR_MASK = const(1<<31 | 1<<15 | 1<<2 | 1<<1)
hex(LFSR_MASK)
'0x80008006'
@fading meadow oops this was meant to be in the cp channel
What is a good electronic shop for Arduino, Pi, Python, 3D printing, etc.?
@void widget no problem. I hope it was resolved.

I haven't seen one of those in years. Some IRC, back in the day had key words that would call up a bot
@sacred isle like todays 3d print brought up a rather specific category , it would be handy to trigger the bot to link it in chat
i have a project for show and tell
??????
@rapid hornet are you in NYC?
oh
@subtle pulsar and now you can also call up the bot by key phrase
mentiond on last show of some sort could be neet, with a list
@tight cosmos follow the steps above in the post from Adafruit about how to get on the show.
@shell mason what's the key word to get list of commands and is it like the old school irc's where only I see my bot request?
did step one and step was commenting here 😃
Hey for all of you up in NYC area, are you all ok, the news we are geting here in Miami is very bad.
we have a lot of snow here in Albany, not to bad
If the news is right, it will all melt tomorrow.

Hi @waxen thistle 👋
Hello everyone!
That looks so fun!
Hello all. 🙂
I love that the Ruiz brothers are doing more and more AT Stuff
@pearl shoal I'm sure you had absolutely no influence on that
Who me? 😃
You? Never!
cool fire
If she ever sells it, she could have a fire sale.
hahahaha
Needs more wires!
👋 Heya @river peak! How's your evening going? Hopefully not too snowed in...
PFfff! It barely stuck.
Then it turned to rain, and now it's mostly gone.
You could say it was snow big deal
Oooh, cereal commands. For when you're extra hungry
@haughty quiver is in da house...
ow, that hurts my ears 😮
Hey @spring heath 😃
like my ears can hear 20khz
That glove control would be really handy.
It's a Turing Test Tone -- only robots can hear it.
😃
I can hear up to 14kHz.
I've been accused of selective hearing, so totally human here.
anything above 17k hurts
I SAID... 😀
better
Gremlins 😃
I can hear bat sonar, and I’m not kidding.
JMK...gotta make the switch to the Purple Side
😄
@eager sapphire It must drive you batty
my mac decided its time to update
'evening, all
@rapid hornet naturally
At twilight, yes, batty
evenin @odd stream
@rapid hornet I guess it’s taking a queue from Windows 10
And other times of the day as well.
At least on MacOS, you can disable auto-update.
@split gazelle ironically I'm now on win 10 as a result
I hacked so many things with those sweeper blades when I was a kid!
@haughty quiver is that a rosewood handle?
walnut :)
So, @haughty quiver - Does this make you a pick-y person?
JMK is creating The Matrix...
Better than Skynet.
JMKnet
At least the bots from the Matrix were trying to keep people alive.
@river peak 😀
A friendly matrix. Where Mr. Smith is replaced with Mr. Rogers.
Would you like to be my neighbor, Neo?
Take the blue tablet.
@ornate coyote This project is truly a sight!
its the Sonar Lisa...
I've got my eye on you 👁
eye eye capt'n
I love how the sensors look like a mouth
I got woken up one night by my tablet saying "You have reached your destination"
@lavish patrol Well have you?
that's terrible @lavish patrol !
@lavish patrol Hahahaha.. that wold be creepy!
nice CPX project!
@waxen thistle I'm not sure...
@lavish patrol But... was your destination "Awake"?
Wow, destination: consciousness
awesome timer! i was working on another kind of timer with my cpx 😃
A light-up cinnamon bun!
Would rather the tablet said: “Hey, go back to sleep.”
FlashStorage Library for Arduino can save those times in the NVRam for you
@river peak Who can say? 🤔
I don't know who can say, but an Owl can say "Who?"
An owl would be a great opening act for "The Who".
An owl physician. Dr. Who
Oddly enough, they've never featured an owl on Doctor Who.
Who's playing?
The Who.
No, I'm asking...Who is playing?
Yes.
That's what I'm ASKING!!!!
The owls are not what they seem
@river peak You beat me to it. 😁
Or... not who they seem?
LOL
"Dude", what's mine say?
Someone needs to do an Abbot & Costello routine with "The Who" in the tune of "Who's on First".
In our previous campaign, my character's Owl Familiar didn't say "Who", it said "WHY?"
Ohh that would be a great feature
🦉 🦉 🦉
Great job everyone!
Thanks for sharing everyone!
Thanks everyone!
Fantastic work everyone!!! Thanks for sharing!
Some wonderful projects tonight. Thanks!
Cool stuff tonight
I think I want to try and show my progress next week

Now for one of the week's highlights. Missed 'ya last week @open girder
happy wednesday all!
@lethal lagoon Hey!
🌩 ❄
I have this bad habit of breaking the poor lens whenever it takes a picture of me.
Hey @lethal lagoon 😃
Happy Thursday 🙂
Hi @lethal lagoon !!!
hiyo!!!
@waxen thistle hahaha....
@ornate coyote @split gazelle I've taught classes, spoke at conferences big & small... but I have serious stage fright with making videos 😦

hi
evenin @lethal lagoon
ya'
@odd stream So maybe don't live stream them? hahaha... much easier to edit a video later 😉
such great goodies! love those perma proto boards, esp the tiny ones
same we have a thunderstorm here in ct
I love thundersnow....
THUNDERSNOW sounds so epic.
@odd stream it took me a lot of practice to be comfy
...you can't control the weather, Adafruit? Huh. Let's fix that 😃
It's probably the same storm that hit the UK over the weekend.
@odd stream @split gazelle I'll never be comfy - but I am getting a little more confident every time.
Weather Feather?
I kinda hope we get thunder snow in MA rather than just regular quiet snow
all rain on the cape so far
30deg here in sunny Melbourne, Australia 😉
Come to think of it, ThunderSnow could be a riff on that one AC/DC song...
@ornate coyote I sometimes play a game on Twitch that I know well and enjoy -- like Super Meat Boy or FTL. Even without a cam, it helps keep a comfortable stream of commentary.
@ornate coyote Stop gloating. 😃
@river peak or that Tina Turner movie..
@analog acorn I actually prefer the colder weather.
@ornate coyote 30 isn't too bad. It's the 42+ I couldn't deal with.
@muted mesa ThunderDome!
ThunderCats....ho!
hi @lethal lagoon
hiyo @haughty quiver !
@lavish patrol We get that occasionally. Highest this last summer was 43 for 2 days straight.
PhilB would disagree - the suits give you super hearing
20KHz pilot tone burst is how they lit the "stereo" lamp in analog FM receivers
2600 hertz
@ornate coyote I remember the fires back in 2009 - when we lost Brain Naylor.
@lavish patrol yeah 😦 you Australia side?
More pixels!
@void widget that module looks cool! I've just begun building a modular and have had fun triggering things w circuitpython ;)
@ornate coyote I was back then. I'm in the UK now.
@haughty quiver JP's comically huge lock. 😄
Did it go 'ding'? 😃
@haughty quiver IM me I have a few oshpark boards left
COMICALLY HUGE ALL THE THINGS @clear matrix !!
@analog acorn You're famous now!
@clear matrix You should see his door...
@haughty quiver YES!
@analog acorn You were mentioned on Adafruit AAE -- you're famous! What will you do now? 😃
@haughty quiver @clear matrix next, plush lock picking!
@open girder here's some stats for nerds for ya (on a 100Mbps cable, in FL)
that's hilarious @lethal lagoon :)
plush and squeaky!
👍
for very tactile/aural learners @lethal lagoon
I still think @haughty quiver should make a lock where the people are the pick. Just walk in, push up on the ceiling
Stable release? Does it have horses?
this makes me think of the tv show Wipeout
I just planned to order some stuff, but there is no place to put in the discount code of "thundersnow" Has anyone else had this experience?
@haughty quiver haptic and audio feedback are so helpful 😃 like the click tool for training pets
@smoky patrol If I remember right, it's at checkout
yes! in fact, it would be fun to teach lock picking with a contact mic and amplifier stuck to the lock
discount code is in the payment section after shipping selection iirc
ooh yes! id sign up for that workshop
@open girder The new 1080p video quality is super noticeable when text is on the screen -- currently using ChromeCast, and it's really nice.
LOL. Five people in a giant, walk in plush lock.
@waxen thistle yay, thanks
I went through the whole checkout process multiple times, but it never appeared?
Why does Barbarella spring to mind?
@waxen thistle wait for the overhead. definitely better on DoL this week...
@rapid hornet heap heap!
yes, the video quality is excellent
Yeah.. crisp
@waxen thistle yes! I'm gonna possibly do my livestream 1080p as well
@odd stream Like a potato chip?
yes! love tested!
Luxurious, even

@odd stream speaking of, soldered up the headers this weekend & im going to starting playing with it tomorrow 😸
yay!!! 👏
Finally found it. Thanks
@odd stream any plans for a STEMMA / Qwiic biscuit :}
So excited for PyCon!
Python, are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK, Python?
PyCon sponsor.. sweet!
now i have to go....
@blazing atlas ??? not familiar with those
I’m really digging Mu
Mu is awesome, definitely worth working with

@split gazelle Awesome. Enjoy... any feedback appreciated. I expect to do one more version (with a round top).
Is it possible to charge some AA batteries from a USB port (for travel purposes...)
*smooth compiler
@steady coral So long as they're rechargeable, obviously - There should be travel chargers you can get.
hmmm, authorship . . .
yes! submit projects!
@split gazelle @river peak I've started pricing out medium fab runs.
be visible! you never know who you're going to inspire 😃
Oh sweet I’ve been missing the women in hardware series
Or Broadcom? (If DoJ loses...) 😄
@blazing atlas ah right.. stemma is the cabling standard, right?
Mr. Ladyada rants? really? lol
It is all about appearances.
RantPants(tm)
I am so sick of folks who Cheer instead Working. People and companies who ACTUALLY FOLLOW THROUGH are rare and valuable. Worth celebrating.
@odd stream yeah but essentially a 4 pin jst type connector ~ Sparkfun calls it Qwiic (theyve been releasing more of their stuff with this), so far adafruit has that single breakout with it..
kinda reminds me of pimoroni's flotilla system (uses micro USB)
GE has no budget for diversity? Tsk tsk tsk.
well, GE is old school. Diversity isn't in their lexicon.
That's a joke about GE - I worked for GE Health Care for a year & the waste was amazing
That narration sounded like an amazon echo
This is going to be an awesome video
A company that size has a lot of inertia
can i get a show and tell rank?
@river peak Thanks, but when I searched for some chargers, some are too cheaply made or too expensive, I would consider soldering my own charger, but no one has made a kit yet...
@steady coral What type of batteries are they?
@pearl shoal I did a stint at GE Rail -- wow. All the things I could say would fill a book. And very few would be flattering.
omg that giant matrix is so awesome
@lethal lagoon Right?
@waxen thistle How many of them would be able to be said in this chat here?
@river peak I'd get smacked by the bot for 75% of them?
@split gazelle I guess the proper reaction to your guide is "Color me impressed!"?
Might I also get a Show and Tell rank? I'm Zack with the light suit and furbox projects.
@waxen thistle Only 75%? Impressive!
Oh lol nevermind ^.^
V is value 😺 and thanks for suggesting doing an HSV version, super fun
Let's just say -- the GE tale of "if you're part of the bottom 10% of performers on your team for 2 quarters straight, you're FIRED" is true. Oh so true. Doesn't matter if you're on an all-star team. They took turns putting people in the bottom 10%.
Let that sink in -- they took turns intentionally losing.
@river peak Energizer recharge Nickel Metal Hydride AA batteries with 2000mah. I use them mostly for gaming.
I grew up on RGB and CMYK. HSV is fairly alien to me, but I also notice a lot of people who do music-linked lighting love to work with it.
car qi charger - say that 10 times fast
"carcheecharer"
@steady coral I don't know of any breakout/kit boards for charging NiMH batteries.
bubbles!!!
wahh all the pink bags! it's like a dream! haha
.... Well. I almost made a comment on one of the video clips that could have been... slightly unfit for this chat here.
Sometimes my humor is annoying
IPC604 rails ftw
Sorry for the weather, Minnesota kinda gave that system to you.
@river peak Oh, ok then... looks like I'll have to keep using my home charger, thanks anyway.
@subtle pulsar I'm not in NYC. I'm in seattle
@steady coral Actually...
Small power inverters aren't terribly hard to get.
Could let you plug in your home charger to your car's 12v port
thanks Minnesota...you also caused FL to drop from 80F last week into the 40s tonight... 😛
I've had good luck with this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004MDXS0U/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Our low tonight is 12, I'd love to see 40's lol
I think others have mentioned this, but Noe & Pedro's video production quality is amazing. They've been good, but lately they've been a step up. Really slick fellas 😃
It's a lovely 65 here 😃
@waxen thistle I agree. Really inspiring to see how they showcase builds and get WIP shots
They must have been really driven with that one though

it is so satisfying watching 3d printers print
sometimes i just zone out watching mine in real time
@river peak Unfortunately, I don't have a car yet... Currently, I can only charge up at the power outlets at home or at my college. (ELAC doesn't have many outlets due to others using them before I can... I do carry my laptop and my phone and I charge up when I can...)
Happy to say I finally subscribed to Adabox
@split gazelle It's really amazing, and the effort they put in isn't easy -- it's a lot of hard work, for a short yet really polished result 😃

I'm getting lag too
hehe...
thundersnow noooooo
Via Twitch via Chromecast via carrier pigeon it seems like.
Lagging here too
yep, lag
They're doing what they can. The thundersnow is affecting the stream.
technicolour lag

I know I'm not supposed to like ads - but I actually enjoy these recaps when YouTube sticks them between my videos
Ads are fairly foreign to me. My Play Music subscription ended up including YouTube Red when it launched.
It was hilarious to me a couple weeks ago. I went to watch one of @split gazelle 's vids and YT put an Adafruit video in as an ad.
okee dokee ask questions here!
THUNDERSNOW!
@open girder It's still a bit choppy, but you're still on. 😃
When will there be a AdaGuide for the ItsyBitsy M0 Express board? (PID 3727) Which pins are PWM capable? Which are CapTouch capable?
@open girder Question: I'd like to use a LoRa breakout with the CircuitPlaygroundExpress. Is that possible?
Question: is the plushie Blinka behind you bespoke, ot could someone order their own? 😃 #NeedMorePythonSwag
When will we get AdaBox in Australia?
@open girder Take care in the storm, folks!
@open girder What came first 0xDEADBEEF or the CDC?
@analog acorn She's the only one!
Can you electroplated either of those new special kinds of filament @open girder
Lines are open in Vermont. Ain't a person for 30 miles using the internet
Ooooh. I know of a new type of bread. It'd be Ku-dough.
Can one find servos controlled directly from i2c
Do you have a guide on how to make an Arduino library? Not automating one, but just making one that works cross platform etc.
What channel are live Q's in?
@blazing atlas: yes! I heard that on a stream earlier today.
@ornate coyote This channel 😃
@ornate coyote This one!
ok. thanks 😉
Hopefully the phone will work
@noble grove I can look up the itsybitsy pinout for you too
@rapid hornet that would be sweet.
@open girder Thanks for the answer -- I caught about half of it. I'll watch the recording 😃 Thank you again!
That is awesome!
We're making a PCB Feather wing - the MCP23017 port expander will work, do you recommend we just go w/SeeSaw at this point?
@noble grove any pins in particular?
@open girder Re: Electroplating plastic. I've seen people use conductive paint as a base for the electroplating
Why do the i2c pins on m0 processors (like the itsy bitsy) need pull-ups even though there's internal ones available for the pin when using it as an input?
@noble grove also, have you looked in the datasheet before?
@gray nest They don't? Unless they've been built into the chips I've been using with them
or breakouts rather
https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/blob/master/ports/atmel-samd/boards/itsybitsy_m0_express/pins.c maps the silkscreen names to the datasheet name
Thanks!
@rapid hornet The project I'm planning requires 8 CapTouch and 8 PWMs. pref PWMs on one side of the board and CapTouch on the other side.
Whats a good cellular chip that will work on AT&T
will the pwms have the same frequency?
they dont have to, he uses those because he is pretty much running the atmega to the limits
@void widget I was asking @noble grove
oh, heh
ohm-bit-stab is the number
welp
Thundersnow ™
ThunderSnow you say? never heard of it... 😄
no phone line either
haha on my end the screen forze on the transition. Can't see any number
I've driven through thundersnow
there it is!
The internet gerbils are unhappy today.
@rapid hornet Driving LEDs. Freq not critical.
k, thats easy then
Someone ran out of cookies for the interwebs gerbils?
Audio is back.
@open girder thank you both for braving the snow to hang out with us
We'll order you pizza for spending the night there
thundersnow 1, ohmbutstab 0

Nevertheless @open girder persisted
@open girder You're still on! 😃
Outside New England, code thundersnow will get you 10% off
I'm still here.
We get a few frames here and there. 😄
We are watching 😃
Thanks and good night.
Take care guys
Thank you! Stay safe & warm
Is there a discount code tonight?
@open girder We're still here. #thundersnowshow
Thanks everyone!
Thanks! Stay warm!

We're watching
@open girder no worries! thanks for hanging out in the factory during MadMax: Return To Thundersnow!!!!
@normal plover thundersnow
Good night
Discount code "thundersnow", 10% off
thanks all!
I hope it was locally recording, I'd love to see the Q&A
ditto
Thanks, @open girder!
Thanks everyone! Stay warm! Or cool depending on where you are.
Valiant effort.
Thank s, safe trip home
I can hear the music but they were frozen on the screen
@open girder Thank you again for another wonderful evening of shows!
@noble grove still around for pinout info?
@rapid hornet sure thing
k, I can teach you how to look it up to
did you pull up the github link i sent?
datasheet link is: http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/40001882A.pdf
@rapid hornet missed it. got it now.
k, so the left side is the silkscreen name
and the right is the datasheet name
so for example A0 -> PA02
and in chapter 7 of the datasheet there is a table that lists everything a pin can be connected to
@rapid hornet got it
'nite all
@spring heath Night!
PA02 can do AIN[0], Y[0] and VOUT which translates to analog in, touch (only Y lines) and analog out
@rapid hornet Y lines?
in the PTC column there is Y[0] and then X[0]
we use the Y lines one their own to detect touch
you can actually arrange them in a grid to do fancier forms
@rapid hornet OK. And X lines are used for matrix switches, right?
@rapid hornet Thanks so much. I'm sure I can figure it out from here.
@rapid hornet That's OK. I grew up reading data sheets, just gotten a bit lazy since they invented the internet.
@delicate fractal which one? the conductive or the iron one?
I'm going to see if I can change out the nozzle on my Prusa i3 mk2s to accept larger filament diameter. Comes with 1.75mm.
@waxen thistle It'd probably be easier to find equivalent filament in 1.75mm
Some of these filaments that adafruit is selling are very attractive, and buying from them, at least I know I'm getting a good brand and quality.
@river peak Where's a solid, reputable place to get filament -- that doesn't take you for a ride?
Well
Adafruit sells Proto-Pasta
And, well, it appears that Proto-pasta does as well
Upgrade your 3D Printing experience with Proto-pasta Carbon Fiber, Steel, Iron & Conductive PLAs. Unique blends like Coffee HTPLA - made by makers in the USA!
And the Proto-pasta store has 1.75mm filaments.
and actually...
It looks like Adafruit has a handful of the 1.75mm ProtoPasta ones
@blazing atlas I'm not sure. Hold on...
I'm pretty sure I heard it on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msuzefy8Yk4 , the 3D shop talk stream, probably about 30 minutes in, but there's too many distractions at home right now.
Episode #180 – Flexible Wireless Charging Wireless Qi Charger for Tesla Model 3 https://learn.adafruit.com/matrix-led-sand/overview Transmitter https://www.a...
@waxen thistle the new colors they're rocking are by meltink and they make 1.75 filament as well: https://www.meltink3d.com/collections/pla-1
@rapid hornet I don't see D6 on the silkscreen
@noble grove it might be internal to the board
@rapid hornet It has a short pad in the photo but I suppose it might go under the chip. I can't see any better irl and I'm not going to wash the silkscreen off my board. Just have to wait for the schematic. Don't need it for my project.
its labeled on the scheamtic next to the chip but nowhere else
thats why I put it in the mapping 😃
@rapid hornet Artwork?
nah, I don't think its used at all
well if it's floating I suppose it could be used as a random number generator.
It took me a while to figure out that the eighth CapTouch pin is A_REF. Not sure how to refer to it in Python though.
you can always do microcontroller.pin.PA##
Copy, standing by
roger that
This song is called "Wasabi Flavored Salt Water Taffy" Wow!
LOL!
you seeing a stream on YouTube?

JOHN PARK'S WORKSHOP LIVE 3/8/18 Morse Code AM Transmitter @adafruit @johnedgarpark #adafruit
YT confirmed
audio is good
what's the spacing between elements within a letter?
One dit length (unit)
The spaces between the dots and dashes is equivalent to one dot length
lets keep morsing
I was sure you were going to use a sweeper blade between two screws! Heh
in transformers there was normal writing in Computer what translated and set via morse code
wooden clothespins were maker fodder for lots of projects when I was a kid. Still use them occasionally.
The infamous Match Gun, for instance
aww so cute and punny
@lethal lagoon think if kids want to talk to others they make a morse code AM transmitter and reciever so they can connect to they device and chat
@shell mason yes so fun!
<- crystal radio.
People often say that I’m well-grounded.
..because of all the ground rods just outside my basement window
May want to try a small series cap in the ant circuit so that the analog output isn't shorted to ground, DC-wise.
... checking the data sheet now to see what it can tolerate.
Probably well within the FCC regulations for a transmitter in the AM band
Oh this is way, way low John - was just joshin’
Another great show, thanks JP!
thanks for joining the fun @eager sapphire !
I don't have 264 meters of magnet wire @thorn dome :)
@lethal lagoon the fabric is not stretchy
it's neat stuff, you'd like it
I've sewn it on the sewing machine very effectively
@haughty quiver Data sheet implies that the analog output is buffered and works well with a variety of resistive and capacitive loads, but falls short of defining short circuit behavior. Probably could assume that low resistance is okay. (bad assumption, BTW. See subsequent posts. The analog output can't handle less than a 5K resistive load.)
Great show today. Going to pick up some clothesline pins for the workshop!
ok, good to know, thank you.
they're so common in film/tv production that they've got a fancy name that looks good on invoices -- C47
did I miss it again ?
@haughty quiver Suggest a 100pf to .1 uf cap in series if the other end is connected to ground. You could also try a 5K ohm resistor in series with the end of the antenna and ground, just to be safe. However, in my experience with radio, leaving the antenna open-ended works best, especially if the ground is separately connected to an earth ground or antenna ground plane.
I just realized this in time to miss is
I was at the lab, so....
I was working in the lab, late one night....
... a frightful sight
....monster mashed potatoes?
