You will continue to change your mind about what you want to do. Even after you are knee deep in it. I just suggest do something you enjoy. Don't do something you don't enjoy. It may seem simple but it's super important. Then you won't be stuck several years in doing something you can't stand

There was a computer parts dealer in Denver that had bins of stuff like an used vinyl LP cut-out bin store. You never knew what he'd have. It was like one of those salvage stores, but all computer parts. Kind of like allelectronics.com I think is one of them still online today.

Not necisarily. Sometimes (not all the time) protocals call for 1's to be "low" and 0's to be "high". Additionally, your scope can completely invert what it is showing on screen. If you want to invert it, hit the buttong for the channel that you want invert, and in the right hand menu there should be an option to invert it.
