bought it off their remanufactured website
I have their larger sized one, it's a sweet electric countertop oven -- calling it a "toaster oven" is understating how awesome it is. I hope it makes a great reflow oven for you
yeah me too
there are other boards I want to design
specifically fpga feathers ๐
Sounds like you need more hours in the day...
@rapid hornet are you going to publish the PCB and such when you complete the oven? Sounds like an awesome project!
Don't we all
fpga! yes!
oh great. now i won't have an excuse to not learn verilog...
this is the oven: https://remanufactured.brevilleusa.com/collections/ovens/products/mini-smart-oven-rm-bov450xl?variant=615248833
@glacial matrix yup! I'd be happy to before its done too
Show and Tell every Wednesday at 7:30pm ET! To join, leave a comment on the Show and Tell announcement on Adafruit's G+ page, then youโll be invited each week to share your project!
Yeah
!!
smt module playground,
love the bar at the bottom @open girder
I hate github everytime I use it all the code gets stolen. I guess its good for opensource but not your clients software.
We need a ticker tape across the bottom....all the latest maker news ๐
aww
All version 9, all the time
@river peak, Thank you very much for the link
We need circut pyton pixel
@sweet kernel thats what private repos are for
hid keyboard support in makecode will be lifechanging
We have packages for Windows and Mac for Mu Editor! @open girder
@rapid hornet I know but it seems that if I mark it as private. Its a flag on the other end for the developers to know where to look for good code. I keep the important stuff here on my versioning system
hm, I will give Mu a spin
yeah definitely want to try mu
lol mooo
i probably should get MU.... bouncing between GitBash, Atmel Studio, file explorer, and PuTTY is getting old...
@sweet kernel we have private stuff for adafruit and haven't had any problems
lol
Yeah you want to use the link that @paper peak posted, those are newer.
glad Jeff Bezos has some competition in you guys
If you guys overtake Bezos you'll need to start your own space program too.
Well I have had problems in the past. Maybe things have changed I don't know
Adafruit space program
Buy n Large!!! "EEEVVAHH!
name your rockets the pyhtonblaster or soemthing
Team: I have a friend at work who wants to learn electronics, so I pointed him at the learning system. He freaked out with excitement and immediately subscribed to AdaBox. ๐
@analog acorn That's great!
@analog acorn Nice. I did the same for my grade 5 teacher that I recently reconnected with. He was looking for projects/learning to do with his grandson.
finally got mu working on my linux box - key was uninstalling the previous verison first.
They discovered The Bends while building the Brooklyn Bridge.
Glad to see the area coming up
The original WTC was built in an area called "Radio Row". Here's Adafruit, a stone's throw away....
Looks like googly eyes above the door. Building is watching you.
sounds like allston christmas
"recycled"
lol
trash finds are the backbone of the making community
or at least for me anyhow he
Thats a great photo, pt.
@open girder Do you have a link to that blog post about the process of growing adafruit you just mentioned?
Hussah!
#adafruit-blog-feed is the easy way to find them... at least for me.
I have #7 on my wish list
Gemma M0 did my ADC project today. ๐
Huzzah 8266 Feather is one of my favorite boards.
I want a soundboard with Collin's number voice overs.
I LOVE THE ITSY BITSY
@clear matrix remix the key of lime project
@rapid hornet Yes!!!
Yay!
A Number of Limes
Wohoo
Yay CPX!
Circuit Playground Express https://www.adafruit.com/product/3333
Circuit Playground Express is the next step towards a perfect introduction to electronics and programming. We've taken the original Circuit Playground Classic and made it even better! ...
So exciting!
I'm going to need to go to the doctors after this.
CPX is number 1 product. Sweet. That makes my current project even more interesting. Guide in the works ๐
circuit playground wifi?
@round willow If that's what you want to do with it.
@waxen thistle https://blog.adafruit.com/2018/01/01/walking-around-brooklynbridge-nytalksandwalks-newyear-newyearseve-nye2018/
The Pomona minigrabber works really nicely with Gemma M0 sized holes. Haven't tried it on CPX yett.
@open girder I love the "FAQ" on the Circuitpython 2FA TOTP guide
@round willow I'll actually have a look at that.
@paper peak Thanks! I actually missed it (was looking for more "history of adafruit" instead of brooklyn bridge). Awesome!
@cyan veldt yeah me too
Best FAQ question.
782,000 accounts tho?
My tangent about "dumpster diving" & reusing discarded goods -- I loved the last week of college every year. So many folks threw out really nice items that they couldn't take with them. And a lot of was just left in lounges with a note "Free to a Good Home".
@vast blade thats just the secodn factor code
Go Sparkfun! Still can't beat Adafruit's tutorials though
@waxen thistle let me know if you find NES hardware
@rapid hornet That was back in 2003-2007. Didn't find any gaming hardware (that always had enough value). Looking to use the casing for a project?
sparkfun took my first monies when I got back into tinkering.
@waxen thistle nah, actually fix it and then use it
Sparkfun's strategy is clearly to be the amazon of hobby electronics
@rapid hornet oh nice!
that was a nice looking left ventricle
this looks cool too: https://hackaday.com/2017/11/20/dual-port-ram-nes-cartridge/
I like Sparkfun. They carry stuff that Adafruit doesn't, and vice-versa. Really awesome that the market isn't so saturated where everyone turns mean.
this is the sparkfun post: https://www.sparkfun.com/news/2571
To celebrate our "crystal anniversary," here's a collection of the stories, blog posts, products and adventures from 15 years of making crazy things.
Got to constantly scrape the slag off the solder resevoir
What's a selective solder machine do? I'm not familiar with that bit of tech.
i do love the solder cleaning videos
It solders things like through-hole headers, switches etc
Solder Fondue!!
Solder Korean BBQ!
mmh korean bbq at korea town nyc ๐ ๐๐ป
it uses a solder fountain to touch solder pins in a programmed order, usually the board is in an x-y frame which moves around and lowers onto the fountain in controlled movements
Ktown is amazing -- there's a fried chicken place called "Olive BBQ Chicken" -- yes. It's SO good.
past manufacturing videos are here: https://www.instagram.com/adafruit/
@waxen thistle we should go there next time I'm in town
Totally!
Couldnโt you just use a feather Bluefruit LE and a motor featherwing?
Does the railing system use Adafruit IO?
There's such awesome food choices in NYC. One of the things I love about the city.
yeah, I gotta figure out when I'm coming next
NYC is good but just expensive for us from out of town. The cost of a hotel and dinner in NYC I could put a mortgage on a house in Vermont.
Nice!
I wont tell anyone
@proper trench stepped away so i am showing this
Here's some LEEK SOUP on such a cold day.
tell everyone in youtube sekret stuff is here
I'm in the Boston suburbs, its a plus as its NYC on more of a budget @sweet kernel
space case!
Oh believe me I know Boston.
I will!
that was awesome
need to change that to Mosfet in a box
Garbage racoons? No....you're elegant Trash Pandas.
so the questions for the Q&A section go here?
^yep!
Welcome back @icy comet!
during the show and any time!
where is the litter?
Gotta print some Zeners next
The cat made it magical.
To be fair, you're not asking "an" engineer -- you're asking a gaggle of engineers! ๐
Q&A Question: with the Feather Huzzah (or ESP32), if I want to get really low power, is there a way to power the board so that the USB/Serial and the voltage regulator are bypassed?
@waxen thistle O_O!<3
Any RGB 3d printing? So you can get any color?
When does it come time to sell it, and say forget it all. I am headed to the beach.
Who wants to hear something awesome? I ordered 50 Circuit Playground Express's for the employees at my company (not mine, where I work...hate English sometimes). I gave them all out today, and everyone was super excited. I got a bunch of people starting to be interested in electronics, and I'm leading a series of classes on cool CPX projects!
@icy comet That's amazing!
@icy comet thats epic!
new new new oh no
@icy comet you should stream your CPX projects live
oh new?
One of their descendants will repair the air supply in your great great grandkid's .. space ship. ๐
Chibi Clip https://www.adafruit.com/product/3698
@tight spade great idea!
Pretty crazy walking through the office and seeing how many people had Adafruit MakeCode website up on their screens ๐
blinky-electronic journal pages
are they tech saavy folks?
Mini LED Arcade Button - 24mm Green https://www.adafruit.com/product/3433
A button is a button, and a switch is a switch, but these translucent arcade buttons are in a class of their own. Particularly because they have LEDs built right in! That's right, ...
OMG gota have a desk button!
hm, I could use those buttons at the office
Nice!
ohh green! used the other colors for a build over the summer, very nice quality
great robot power-up robot
I've always wanted to find a use for teh GIANT BUTTON O' DOOM that they have
Nth-Light Narrow LED Flexible Strip Light https://www.adafruit.com/product/3683
Naomi Wuโ was way ahead of us on this button thing, she was checking out buttons back on 30 dec 2017!
OMG need
a light-up bookmark project is on the horizon
@agile cave Well, she lives in maker-toy central, after all
@lethal lagoon Hey!
hai
print('Hello")
this is amazing btw...is the adafruit community / this discord channel online and running all the time?
LED blobs!
can we all chat with each other all the time?
omg black mirror
hey! @lethal lagoon made it while we're live!
Is this how they get very thin non-OLED TVs?
@icy comet yup!
@icy comet Yup!
that's INSANE
@icy comet Always here!
that is perfect for my destiny warlock armband thingy
@icy comet Yes, it is.
I need to get this under the SEM
Can you zoom in on that tape??
i'm thinking of something in a picture frame
@muted mesa yes! it's a wednesday miracle for me!
Want to see the emitters themselves
eeeeeeel
@glossy glacier Ooooh yes
Hey, @lethal lagoon I loved your tweet with Rainier today....
@icy comet You bet. I have discord open all the time.
Thanks
man this show burns a hole in my pocket hahaha
random q for the group: has anyone used Nextion displays? i got one and it seems awesome
if u want to make a user interface for an Arduino project
super simple, cheap
@icy comet yeah ive used them ๐
im loving it so far
@analog acorn oh thanks! i had a great view from jury duty!
I will figure out how to delayer the thing and hopefullly get some good picture of it

EL panels make a weird sound......they quietly buzz "eeeeeeeeeeee"....but if you listen closely, sometimes you can hear it add an "L" at the end of it. "eeeeeeeeee.....L"
omggg yesss
@icy comet planning to use it with my 3d printer, upgrade the simple screen to have a touch ui and such, a 'soon' project
already ordered two esp32 feathers!
@waxen thistle Does that make them an Electric EEE...L?
another already-soldered thing
@icy comet I think its made by the same company that does the Sonoff devices. Have you used the Nextion IDE?
@blazing atlas if you happen to make a case for the 2.4 screen I'd LOVE to get it if possible
yes
its awesome
there he is! welcome back Master Punner (you've been quiet lately @river peak)
not the BEST, but the crop button concept is great
@icy comet sure, will be likely to post it here ๐
@muted mesa I haven't been paying much attention to the chat this AAE
Q&A Question: with the Feather Huzzah (or ESP32), if I want to get really low power, is there a way to power the board so that the USB/Serial and the voltage regulator are bypassed?
@open girder WROOM vs. WROVER on the ESP32's?
Phil sleeps? I thought friendly robots didn't need sleep?
Have you guys ever checked out the EasyVR Voice Recognition shield for Arduino as a product?
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13316
I purchased it from Sparkfun but the google-translated instructions were terrible and I couldnโt figure it outโฆyour in-depth tutorials are making me lazy XD
@icy comet https://www.adafruit.com/product/3573
Looks like Adafruit found itโs leaker
wait, do i need to preface questions with @open girder ?
for low-power stuff, this stuff is goood
Can i have some of those Nth light pannels to put under the SEM? I dont know if it will work, but we will find out!
@open girder Q&A Question: with the Feather Huzzah (or ESP32), if I want to get really low power, is there a way to power the board so that the USB/Serial and the voltage regulator are bypassed?
@icy comet it helps...
Isn't bone cycle-er off of Turbo Kid on netflix?
(forgive me if im breaking protocol, first discord night!)
Q&A Question: So..if I'm a complete noob to building anything, can I learn everything before I build anything?
@muted mesa gotcha, thanks!
When will we see Adafruit Workshops ....?
@icy comet Ah! A hearty welcome, then!
@open girder awesome,. thanks!
@solid marsh Yes but not practically
@solid marsh Build! Just build ๐ Learn as you go ๐
Voice Commands are easy Voice Recognition is different
Learn from your mistakes, they're important teachers.
or get the art of electronics
@solid marsh The best way to learn is by doing.
breaking stuff is so much fun ;P
@icy comet Usually you only need to ask once, but for Ask an Engineer it never hurts to tag adafruit
Agreed. I used a red bear VR board for voice commands like two years ago, it was very cool
@clear matrix gotcha
i remember the old days, only post once
but i wasn't sure if the protocol was to tag __
I have dropped and stepped on my CPX, and it is still perfectly fine. (and i am, for the record, not exactly a small person)
Question: can you recommend any battery level sensors?
@icy comet It helps if a lot of people are asking things and the stream is speeding by, but they're usually pretty good at catching questions
I have a voice chip here hold on
Also, forgot to mention: I sent a CPX to my friend who's the principal of an elementary school in Pittsburgh, and he's going to look into getting them for their STEM classes.
let me find it
@icy comet That's also great! Thank you so much for spreading it around!
Hmm Good Thoughts
@icy comet IIRC< Adafruit does edu discounts, might wanna metion to him to check on that
@clear matrix for sure. I am an Adafruit evangalist! ๐
^same by far
What is MIDI in CP Express for.....
Adafruit needs vending machines with the products in them for maker spaces.
maker spaces can be resellers
Does anyone have an idea on building a Gimbal for the Raspberry Pi 3?
All the VR chip says is Geeetech.com other than that the chip is blank.
Phil is right: was just reading the history of Amazon, Jeff Bezos hated spending any money on marketing. he thought it was a complete waste of money.
@open girder I would like to see the micro usb connectors you use at the store (they're hard to find)
like at the old radio shacks
what's the difference between STEM and STEAM?
Maker spaces can get distributor pricing, and it just means a minimum $ order, not a "at least this many things" order,
Question: could a raspi be used to run a be setup
Definitely because I spend ~$100 every Wednesday because of all the awesome stuff i see!
maker space: https://www.adafruit.com/distributors
Speedy @rapid hornet is SPEEDY (er than me)
@whole junco A is for Art (creativity)
Giving a board to someone and providing a community will do more than marketing ever could.
ah
ok, last adafruit plug: a woman in my office, thanks to my intro, spent $500 of her learning budget on Adafruit gear a few days ago. she told me she just got started tonight using the Arduino starter kit and was so excited.
@icy comet Keep sharing, this is all great!
does anyone here have suggestions on what they started on building as a beginner?
@tight spade example of a makerspace vending machine: https://blog.adafruit.com/2017/11/17/this-vending-machine-sells-raspberry-pis-raspberry_pi-piday-raspberrypi/
@icy comet invite them to discord too
i can't help it, i love this company and all these products. ๐
get an Arduino starter kit @solid marsh
good idea...
Question: I live in San Diego. Is there a retail distributor near me
yes! also so many people are designers and they dont know it
art is an integral component of design ๐
that would be my reccommendation
and probably same with engineers
BEES?
@versed mountain order direct from adafruit, cheap ground ups shipping
@solid marsh find something you WANT to build. anything else is an assignment, and the "someone else decided" will put you off more if you run into trouble.
@versed mountain jeroYes There should be
Are you gonna bring Tony's streams back in the future?
@solid marsh getting a single LED to blink on command is an amazing intro. even seasoned folks love blinky projects.
โค
can't win. i won once. best day ever. lol.
@solid marsh I STRONGLY recommend getting a CPX for general "IDK what to do..I'm just gonna faff about" purposes, tho
I used CPX to build a heat alarm for a friend with a lizard who almost died when the heater went out.
agreed. its an awesome board.
I'm going to save my lifetime chance for an Arduino or raspberry pi product
Dude, I would LOVE a @proper trench AI
Sounds like someone watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special, @open girder.... ๐
CPX means you don't have to hook three things up together to try out something challenging/interesting.
wait, what the?
Hey same Kent
whats this phone call thing?
woo boston!
@open girder check out Isaac Arthur yt channel for Digital Death
Lately he's been seen in Mayfair
hmm, wonderful suggestions guys! i've always wanted to do projects for gaming, however i don't have a 3d printer...
@solid marsh computer gaming?
@icy comet win a new product if you get through
Bye
Bye Guys
@solid marsh 3dhubs is a thing that exists, and is how I get my 3dP parts
guy on the phone: i built a system like that for my office. if you guys use google calendar, and you want some code to get calendar events through a simple API
^there are sites like shapeways that can print your designs for you @solid marsh
@paper peak i won already one time ๐ฆ
if you upload your stls
@split gazelle grew up watching Zoom! (PBS) filmed there- PBS stem kids show ;3
interesting...
@vast blade THATS the other one I couldn't remember
@icy comet changed from chat trivia questions to actual phone calls
very cool
Come on and zoom zoom zooma zoom
Thanks and good night.
Bye guys!
@blazing atlas yay! i also loved zoom. the childrens museum had an exhibit on it when i was growing up
Good Night and have a great year!

Maybe we should use PT for the Adafruit AI?
We need a ladyada J.A.R.V.I.S

YOU ADAFRUIT!
@blazing atlas re: the TPL1111, thank you! I actually got one last week ๐
figured that was prob the best and easiest way to do a low power project
@icy comet Yup, easy to prototype with as well
totally forgot about that. i've had this obsession for a while with trying to figure out how to do low power sensors with esp8266
great with adafruit IO - IMHO ๐
woah this was awesome...
i've had this dream for a long time about getting a $3 esp8266 module, with a small lipo or coin cell and a temperature sensor, and placing them all around our house, and have it last for months
@solid marsh it is. keep coming around, and make it more awesomer! ๐
proud to say i was actually one of the very first beta testers of adafruit io ๐
i gotta find out if i can get grandfathered into a pro plan ๐
I'll read the scrollback after it calms down. Like, tomorrow. ๐
i have this one concern however, because I feel too old to start any electrical engineering as a hobby...
Never too old for it
@solid marsh it's never too late, and there's so much to learn, and you get more and more knowledge as you go
nonsense. I'm 37, and starting my BS in EE in February...
btw, anyone in manhattan? anyone wanna do an informal meetup one time?
@icy comet I'm happy to when I visit
@icy comet I'm going to try to visit as well!
Okay, but I'm 16, and I never heard of this before, and I was planning to go to college and study as an astrophysicist, however it takes 20 years to learn all the necessary things for that job role, so now I want to be an electrical engineer as well.
my friend just left our company to pursue an engineering degree in washington
never too late
but also, u can pick this stuff up
@solid marsh haven't looked at that degree plan...but I'm sure the math requirements are pretty similar
@solid marsh i didn't start tinkering until about 2 years ago in my mid-twenties, you have plenty of time to jump in ๐
Yeah, that's why it would be more confusing, because with my degrees and I can go either way, but I have to make a choice.
AP will just have much deeper physics after the math. I could of course be totally off base.
Nah, I believe you're exactly right...
When you figure out the extent of what Turing meant by a Turing Machine that'll cook your bacon.
mmmmmmm. bacon.
@blazing atlas let me know about that nextion case if u end up doing one
I'm just really horrible at making choices and I overthink things, but I believe tinkering will give me more joy in life than depression and gaming until i go to college and graduate.
@rocky reef can u recommend a 3d editor for beginners?
i've been using tinkercad so far and its great, but doesnt have a lot of flexibility or features
@solid marsh I can't speak for anyone else in the space, but I think the overanalytical side of me is precisely what pulls me to engineering. "MUST FIGURE THIS OUT!!!!" is constantly in my brainwaves.
I admire the people who kept up on relationships with family and friends and coworkers and people they went to school with and were in clubs with and all that. They seem universally better off than without making those kinds of efforts.
have you taken any of the "what you'd be good at, what you enjoy" career type questionaires?
oh god no,, i think that would be a dream..
@muted mesa When I was in high school.
loll i forgot to @people bc I'm a discord noob too
@icy comet For 3d printing? I've heard Fusion360 is good. I'm just about to look at software myself. My first printer arrives later this month.
thanks ill check that out now
alright. stepping out for a minute or 16... chat at ya later folks. @solid marsh, I'll DM you some links to questionaires I've taken
You will continue to change your mind about what you want to do. Even after you are knee deep in it. I just suggest do something you enjoy. Don't do something you don't enjoy. It may seem simple but it's super important. Then you won't be stuck several years in doing something you can't stand
My brother effectively got a Bachelor's Degree in being a Dungeon Master (Basically, a lot of history courses and the like). He's working in a company that does stuff with medical devices.
@river peak cool..DnD?
Yep
@river peak ah.. cool.. I'm self-taught ๐
@solid marsh Just to drive home the never to late to start point, I got my first electron microscope less than a year ago and now I have a job that I love repairing these insturments with an interview lined up for a really mind blowing opritunity at a r&d lab for a company that you have definitely heard of. You can learn these things whenever you want and go as far as you can with them.
I'm self-taught with most everything
I was a self-taught programmer for many years before I did a CS degree.
I did two semesters of college. It... did not work well for me.
hmm, applaudable
Well, I'm a self-taught artist, and it was way funner than art class.
Also saying funner is more fun than saying more fun.
Never too late - i started wearable electronics in my fifties (BA in Liberal Arts back long ago), and see where I am now. Not to mention having a perfect blast teaching anyone anything i know - such a wonderful adventure.
Cool, what kind of wearable electronics though?
I tripped and fell down the electronics rabbit hole when I tried to make my first guitar amp...
ok, serious question: anyone in NYC I can hire to tutor me in how to properly use my Rigol oscilloscope?
@solid marsh -Wearable electronics art garments, actually. You can look up my name on Adafruitโs site, or check some Show and Tells - last week I was there with a new (and not quite finished) hat.
@solid marsh https://www.adafruit.com/product/2975
@hollow lion Cool. I got into electronics (again, largely self-taught) in my mid-teens and stuck with it into my mid 20s before getting pulled into a software only career. Now inmy early 50s I'm back into electronics. Let's just say it's the same bit different now. A tiny MCU used to be an entire board of (relatively) big ICs.
That's a lot of loot in one little box.
I used to go to rat shack every saturday morning on my bike and spend an hour at the back wall where all the parts was. Wallet emptied before I walked out with the week's take.
I tripped down the electronics rabbit hole slowly over time, started in high school when I had really good tech teacher
I'll echo the "never too late" and "you'll seriously change your mind/transition to something totally different several times along the way".
There was a computer parts dealer in Denver that had bins of stuff like an used vinyl LP cut-out bin store. You never knew what he'd have. It was like one of those salvage stores, but all computer parts. Kind of like allelectronics.com I think is one of them still online today.
I studied French in HS. ....then I was sent abroad to a Spanish-speaking country.
I studied IT in college with specializations in SysAdmin and DBA. Haven't touched either professionally since I graduated, working now in a different specialization.
Life has a funny way of changing things up on you.
Nice.
argh, need oscilloscope help, who's got experience?
But I need someone's opinion on what should I do in the immediate future: Console gaming or Adabox 007?
@lucid delta Yeah?
@glossy glacier have u used a Rigol?
I said "I dislike writing code, I'll never do it. That's why I studied IT instead of Computer Science."
First job out of college was for a software company, writing code. Excellent opportunity of a lifetime.
Turns out, my feelings were right! I didn't like writing code... in a corporate environment. Smaller, personal projects? I can't get enough of it.
but im like 2% confident on how to use it
first off: if i hook it up to Arduino RX/TX, and the data being sent appears as "dips", what setting do i have wrong?
Make lissajous figures with it.
lol i just made a taco and realized the beauty of the technological universe/multiverse
because building projects is like building tacos
The Truth is to be found in oatmeal. /Finnish proverb (probably misstated somewhat)
@glossy glacier i guess so? i always thought the data "waves" would go "up", right?
isn't that the normal mode of operation?
Not necisarily. Sometimes (not all the time) protocals call for 1's to be "low" and 0's to be "high". Additionally, your scope can completely invert what it is showing on screen. If you want to invert it, hit the buttong for the channel that you want invert, and in the right hand menu there should be an option to invert it.
gotcha
let me try that
also, the buttons on the left
not sure what happens when i press them, but what i do know is that after i press them, it's not like a toggle...pressing them again says "...already active" or whatever
what are those for?
Well, bye everyone...gotta binge watch some podcasts.
Anyone know what Chinese food restaurant in Boston Ladyada was referring to when I called in?
@whole junco prob Mary Chung's
@whole junco Saun La Chow Chow and Dun Dun Noodles (separate dishes).
former are dumplings in spicy sauce; latter is peanut sauce noodles
I speak from experience, but haven't been there in several years (though I live in the area). http://boston.menupages.com/restaurants/mary-chung-restaurant/
@whole junco and you caught the ref to Toscanini's?
yes, although there's a blizzard tomorrow
I did not know they had good hot chocolate
and I didn't know they were around the corner from Roxy's/A4cade
๐
i haven't been there! (Roxy's/A4)
nerd heaven. good food, good drinks, and arcade games.
My only complaint is the music in the place is too loud so you can't hear the machines
Yenching in Harvard Square had good Dan Dan noodles (spelled diff), but they are now closed, sadly. Roxy's/A4 is ~40yrs after my time.
It's a "speakeasy" in that you enter Roxy's and walk through the double doors. When you open what looks like the freezer door, it opens up to the arcade/bar area
That's fantastic
Shoutout though to Bit Bar in Salem. More/better games. Not as good food, but good times.
The most important thing is both bars have the TMNT arcade game.
@icy comet for sure ๐ will eventually get to it ~
test test
@haughty quiver test passed
Hi everyone, we're live! LMK if you see and hear something resembling a show
thanks! I made it in some in-browser sequencer app
I was thinking you stream yesterday @haughty quiver
totally suprised by this stream
would it be played by coins?
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
that would be nice
NFC reader too?
Chuck-E-Cheese tokens?
Could use the adalogger to keep track of quarters
Should be 0.1
yeah. 0.1"
@haughty quiver Did you also consider using CircuitPython for the M0?
If you feed them too fast, it misses them, might need to adjust the timout
๐ ๐น
@haughty quiver for Picade coin collector think Payazzo game
The relay isolates power issues, too. Nice universal solution.
Keep it simple
yes it does @inner spade
Well, what more way to get people to spend money like getting chance to win money?
my dad play it a lot in online
Collects bitcoins?
where you put the coin collector?
the Payazzo/Pachinko would be nice as the coins going in and can be used in the game money with coin collector
that would be nice for mystery box as if you hit the magic combo you open the secret box
Coding time!
Collect certain coins, beat the unlocked game, get prize
Maybe escape?
@paper peak just for fun - I builts CP3.0 master for the Trinket M0. When I load it and boot, it tells me it is in safe mode. Is this expected?
@fading meadow could it be in #circuitpython-dev
oops sorry
@fading meadow I changed some board def stuff in the last push - there could be a mistake. Also, the filesystem state might be an issue
hehe. he's watching JP, i imagine... ๐
omg the code have "OINK, OINK" like a ๐ท inside the code
@haughty quiver Get some vintage Chuck E. Cheese tokens. No profit, no gambling.
I found the Correct chat for you finaly. LOL the last spot i checked.
ohh those are awesome!
Yeah -- they're great!
8-bit synth? nice.
thanks @haughty quiver !
Thanks John
thank you!
Thanks!
what was the name of that company? teenage ....
Teenage Engineering
for mysterybox using custom tokens to unlock the secret box
Pocket Operator is the series
Awesome
@haughty quiver here is some payazzo pachinko made from lego http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Heppuneppu/Payazzo/pajatso_013.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Heppuneppu/Payazzo/pajatso_015.jpg
cool, @shell mason !
that is pretty small case too
but idea is the same as it have coin collector then it goes to button where player launch the coin
now think tokens what goes through the points port so if the tokens are played to the ports so mystery box opens
@haughty quiver I'm looking forward to the day when you list a discount code with your live sessions. I have an order in the wings that I'll just have to sit on until next week. Hint, hint. ๐
@inner spade list of Feather WIngs waiting for order?
@shell mason No Wings this time, mostly sensor breakouts and some tools.
It's all good, though. It can easily wait until next week.
OK, good hint @inner spade !
@inner spade If you can't wait, and you haven't subscribed to Adafruit's weekly newsletter... at least last year when I signed up, I got a 10% off coupon code with it (one time use).
And if you have already signed up, has your significant other/child (with your permission)/cat (with their permission, as they rule us humans) signed up? No? Well...hmmm.
Thanks for the hint @waxen thistle . I'm all signed up and have spent my ADABOX discount code, too. This order can wait -- it's not like I don't have at least two projects in the works and a previous order on a truck between there and here...
๐
I may have done something along those lines when I needed an order between wednesdays...
You would think that one order a week would be enough, huh?
Well....I have no sense of self control. Also, I had a lucky windfall and decided to pull the trigger on a Rigol oscilloscope and Rigol power supply, two items on the wishlist for years.
I figured, if I don't do it now, when will I?
If only Adafruit carried Rigol's waveform generator DG1022 (hint, hint)...
I'd probably put in an order asap for one (hint, hint)...
[coupon code + free shipping + freebies sweeten the deal so nicely]
@waxen thistle I like that waveform generator, too. Hmmm.
and Arduint 1.8.5 ide.
Starting over. Feather M0 proto with 2.4" tft featherwing. Feather works ok by itself. When placed on the tft featherwing blink no longer works.
oops thought I was in project help.
Just in case @haughty quiver does not see my twitter message, here is a 2.0 proposal for the Picade Coin thing. In include the concept of a bank, because with Mame, if you change game before consuming all your credit, or if you put coin before entering a game, the money is lost... https://gist.github.com/dglaude/a027acf7ae9f19db0fc1aa15ed43d147

Hello
Loud and clear here
Today's coupon code GRAVITY gets you 10% off your order!
Gravity
as gakken worldeye is not full dome so for eye with both side it would be nice to modify it and make projector both side
@rocky reef think having eye and eye lips in the gyro with a eye in the center
You can use google to convert units, btw.
Hey all
I think i have used 5% of google
Gakken World eye basically have projector inside
so think if you make your own globe with 2 projectors and raspberry pi
having camera inside it so it can detect who is watching
oh great idea @shell mason
ha, yes!
@hard hollow posted links to youtube chat so if those are posted here
youbute somehow broke the links
small links it's fine but those what breaks with ... not wokr with youtube
oh the main tree is here: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Learning_System_Guides
https://blog.jeremylikness.com/build-a-serverless-link-shortener-with-analytics-faster-than-finishing-your-latte-8c094bb1df2c for adafruit to have url shortener could work well for youtube linking
whats up I can not get soud
there is sound
thanks for joining๏ปฟ folks!
Hey, @rocky reef great show again - do you have a URL for that maker you mentioned at the end of the show?
i watch how Scylthe is coming from foam
Anyone want to do a pre-show and tell hang out in discord? I am getting some stuff ready to put under the SEM for show and tell
I'll join in, in 10 min or so.
No problem, I am still getting set up
Ok, new octopi ready for testing the Klipper firmware on my printrbot.
If @hard hollow and @rocky reef haven't test this yet, I can't stress enough the difference the firmware makes...
(or anyone else with a 3dprinter)
I have a 3d printer in the making that I'm sharing. The idea behind it is something diffent.
sharing? how?
I mean in the show in tell
Ah ok.
@gusty wedge haven't used the printrbot in a while, im sure the cloud stuff has been updated since?
@hard hollow No, actually the klipper firmware is for "any" printer, I just have a printrbot.
@eager sapphire here's the maker update show https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfMJZK2etTZFGXYDh8p3x3w
Hi, Iโm Donald Bell and this is the Maker Project Lab channel on YouTube. This is where Iโll be posting videos about my favorite maker projects, kits, and to...
Haven't used any cloud thingy... I live in CR and prefer not to depend on internet
@gusty wedge ah gotcha
@hard hollow It uses the CPU on the Raspberry (via Octoprint) to optimize the stepper functions, without hardware changes.
It gives it more torque, and makes them way silent. You don't listen the steppers anymore, only the fans ๐
So this is a cheap-o printer at 250mm/s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clixTeZ3fJA
https://github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper/ Tmc2100 - spread cycle - 30v 4k Accel / 250mms top No ringing.
I have an arduino due and a modified Ramps 1.4............ haven't tested it yet
@pine sentinel Ramps is compatible, here's the example config file for using it with klipper.
https://github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper/blob/master/config/generic-ramps.cfg
I have a few isues I am working here so I am not going to be able to do the hang out thing...
No worries.
Lets see if I can be ready in time for S&T
no pressure Adam
the atmosphere has pressure too.
think adam SEM lab in space
A beam of electrons. In orbit. We could call it....dramatic music....a "DEATH STAR".
wishes there was sarcastic double quote finger emoji.
Actually... no pressure, 'cause the SEM runs in a vacuum :รพ
Under the ocean [high pressure] -- in a capsule of air at 1 atmosphere [normal pressure] -- vacuum chamber [no pressure].....while riding an orb through the reaches of space [totally no pressure].
+100
Now get it in the SEM for S&T

thanks @waxen thistle that's it!

John are you going to follow up on the at-at soon?
that table!
4k!
I'm planning one of these. Need to work on fixing the motherboard for the TV, though.
Does it have IR touch?
@split gazelle love the tunes
I've scavenged TVs from Cragislist/Facebook, so definitely not 4k.
๐
@rapid hornet thanks!
I love these kinds of tables.
D&D...reminds me of Thursdays at Geek & Sundry ๐
@fallow fractal yes, that's next up!
๐ I love this kid!
Yup.
@vernal mulch good job!!
Makes amazing stuff like it's so normal ๐
๐
Awesome!!!!
yw
His problem is that he made the device to small for the screen โค
@vernal mulch , great job. you rock!
I like watching it too
have it going down and it could mirror lightning. Then my girls would want it.
well for the Windows10 IoT core the screen can be small like what @vernal mulch showed so you get remote client connection it show full app as you can show specific stuff on small screen
I tried the mic and webcam on my Dell 11" laptop tonight -- very low resolution.
@vernal mulch how do you set up JMK OS?
External webcams are not too expensive and can be better than the built-in cams on some laptops
@split gazelle The Dell 15" laptop has a better camera, but can't do audio properly. I'd have to do a wired headset with no proper mic.
adam's on
whoa that's cool
I specialize in listening faster than most people can talk. There are exceptions. ;)
@split gazelle that synth kit looks so fun!
Enhance!
Take the picture, buy it a nice dinner, get to know it
@haughty quiver it is! was a really fun build too
@glossy glacier be one with the chip
is it analog or digital?
Blade Runner
totally analog & monophonic
8 bit goodness
@split gazelle Yay!
๐
Sounds like @split gazelle was doing some blues progression there ๐
Puttin' on the Ritz
@waxen thistle good ear ๐
I am kinda amazed I got that in the SEM in time
wjat spftware is that diagram in?
Wow @pine sentinel those are some coooooool rails.
@split gazelle Do you have a music background? ๐
Oh man, what'd I miss today
@glossy glacier that was really awesome to see in action
I think I need my metrowing soldered up
(I'm sewing and soldering)
If you plan on using the Ramps card on that printer, can I also suggest using "trinamic" drivers.
@waxen thistle i do! i work in AV and i play guitar, piano & a bit of percussion
@rapid hornet I agree ๐
I was doing (abreviated) bring up procedures while everyone else was talking...

hi guys
hey!
@gusty wedge Thanks, stilll making progress. Need to make a brackect for them
๐
@split gazelle Very cool! A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I did more 12-bar progressions and jazz improv than I think is healthy ๐
And Thank you @hard hollow for the space in the chat
Ahh, Show & tell + ask an engineer always makes my week. Thanks everyone!
adafruit is live at https://www.twitch.tv/adafruit
@split gazelle Mostly bari sax and bass clarinet, but now I play around on a full-size keyboard. Little bit of piano background from back then...
@waxen thistle oh excellent! bari sax has such a killer tone
splitting attention between Ask an Engineer and the X Files
That's awesome! You can always use a perma proto!
"Thats the FREEZE b's"
LOL, the kodak cryptostuff...
Love the pix @glossy glacier
I just ordered 10 bitcoin replicas from China - I wonder if the coin works in JP's coin slot device for the arcade cabinet?
@spring heath Only one way to find out
Put the Postal Service on NOTICE! ๐
@waxen thistle But do you mail it to them?
@river peak .....yes. I see issues with that plan.

My company no longer does paid time off for charity. And they've cut back on the holidays drastically -- and we never had MLKjr day off. Nor President's Day. ....sigh....
um... speaking from the UK... we don't have an independence day ๐ฆ mainly because all yours are about getting independence from us ๐
"my name is box, adabox!"
"Keep Calm and Celebrate Independence" ๐

great to hear
America is continent, so that includes all of us.
i'll hold my breath
Dear, UK. We paid various countries the fair market value for the tea you fairly shipped to us from them. ๐
Finland here
Hmm. Tea. I suddenly have a craving for some Lapsang Souchong.
I think I need to put a CircuitPlaygroundExpress into a stuffed Porg with servos
@spring heath Cooked or uncooked Porg?
@shell mason how far are you guys with renewable energy?
Show and Tell every Wednesday at 7:30pm ET! To join, leave a comment on the Show and Tell announcement on Adafruit's G+ page, then youโll be invited each week to share your project!

Only the uncooked ones move and talk
(last year...)
@gusty wedge we sell it for countries what i know too

@spring heath Well, with the power of CircuitPython....anything is possible...
Nice.
Congrats @rapid hornet
thanks!
MakeCode IS cool
hello
@gusty wedge in LUT where Jamie Hyneman is Honorable Doctor was opening solatair plant what make fuel from renewable energy
like from CO2
We are starting something similar by using plasma to "burn" stuff.
Made by Franklin Chang, an ex-nasa astronaut who's also doing the VASIMIR plasma engine.
@waxen thistle I seriously can't stop thinking about how delicious that cooked porg looked. Crispy, bronzed skin. Probably moist meat...
I'm so proud of Chewie for his cooking skills, too.
Pls I might be having low power ..my question is these I what is .i have been using arduino for some time now ...and some of my folks who work on pic microcontroller said arduino is Just for prototyping ...pls how can arduino projects become sellable products @proper trench
@gusty wedge http://soletair.fi/
BTW, I heard about the "show and tell" sticker. I was in there and i don't know how the adressing thing goes. Do they know because I used my email?
@haughty quiver Little known fact, Chewie is an Alton Brown "Good Eats" fan.
ah, that makes sense
@scenic goblet Almost all 3d printers have an atmel processor programmed using the arduino IDE.
now Chewie is a finn
walk it off, son
Did I just hear LadyAda say "I'll put a 2x4 through your head"....see folks, this is what happens when you get distracted...
Mayhew handled Chewie to Joonas Suotamo in Force Awakens

@shell mason Soletair looks cool. Kinda works like the in-situ fuel generation designed for mars by Robert Zubrin.
some bitcoin miners use lots of energy
think if they use renewable energy to mine those bitcoins
Someday, if you put the same hard work and effort into it!
@river peak going to use them in renewable energy

saw his video on that yesterday. crazy that that can happen
The same reason why you never say publicly that you're going on vacation. Just asking people to break into your virtual/physical home.

It has more Dave Jones in it.

that is a great cover to see after their fiasco

@eager sapphire exactly! i rarely use SD...but I need one of those!
My brother used to run 40 feet of keyboard and 15-pin VGA cable in his office so that he could get away from his IBM PC's noise level.

@open girder What i would LOVE is one of those cables with MicroSD on one end, and Full SD on the other.
