Anybody in the hacking world simply see's this as standard procedure.
You're hiding now 😛
It’s all just proof that we’re really, truly live.
Yes, we have audio and video, but now John has no head
i dont see anyone and was forced to watch a tower collapse video ...
lol, that warp is something
3D printing is 90% tweaking, i haven't gotten the hang of it yet either
I need to get my printer up again
I need to find someone to print me an ABS print head mount though
Which has been a pain
PLA all the way
That, and those mint boxes
@eager sapphire Not the biggest fan of them, they're conductive
For me, that’s an upside, shielding
Gotta love a good prototype.
Nice job John
Very cool @haughty quiver
I love a good enclosure. Thanks @haughty quiver
Cost for all is ???
I'm curious what these sony cameras cost....i'm a big fan of my logitech c920 cameras, but this is night and day better 😃
Haha, need more slack in that HDMI connection
WOW, what a setup for an overhead.
Everything in life is a workaround 😉
That is a mighty fine studio setup
Are the NeoSegments fully modular? Are they each individually adressable?
You need to convert to Monster cable. 😉
@inner spade no one is that rich or silly 😛
... the size of a garden hose, of course.
So you could build a matrix of them for simple animations?
Set the green value to i*20 to vary the segment alone.
I remember that one, the defusing on that build was nicely done.
7 Segment cube sounds fun!
Nice job John.
@haughty quiver Thanks!
No sweat on the intermission, John, thanks for another great show
@haughty quiver thanks again! Good demo!
Thanks @haughty quiver
Another great workshop show @haughty quiver . Thanks for the extra time to work out a couple of CP issues. 😉
Maybe make them planned ones in the future 😛
*brief
everyone hum
Can I stop humming now?
No.
😃
breaks out a lighter and hums along.
realizes he doesn't have a lighter, so time to find a Circuit Playground and a battery.
Typical example of why I love the Workshop. John doesn't flinch a bit. He deals with the issue and gets back on track.
Humming along..... ><>
Never a reason to panic. Even when it's serious. Especially when it's serious, don't panic.
Precisely.
Thanks so much @waxen thistle @heavy siren
@haughty quiver Your very welcome. Besides, the thanks really goes to you, adafruit, the community, and all those who strive to grow this realm we call HackerSpace. 🍸 Cheers. ><>
raises his Key Lime soda in cheers :)
anyone here have experience With these? : https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/KZ-ATE-Copper-Driver-Ear-Hook-HiFi-In-Ear-Earphone-Sport-Headphones-For-Running-With-Foam/1358152_32337313320.html
I am working on creating a guide for building a CircuitPython children’s thermometer. In an effort to get it mostly done tomorrow, I am going to livestream updates on Instagram and Discord leading up to Show and Tell. My first update will be at 11am ET/9am MT on my IG account ryespi.
@runic acorn awesome!
So unless something big changes, I am not going to be alble to make it to show and tell 😞
This is the first time in many, many months.
next week @glossy glacier !
@rapid hornet For sure! Depending on how things go down, there is a slim chance that I can pull S&T off, and if I do it will be pretty awsome.
😃
morning folks! no 3d hangouts this week but you can follow our projects on instagrams: https://www.instagram.com/videopixil
we've been testing multicolor prints with the new mosaic palette + and noe is build a neopixel pov painter
@rocky reef Thanks for the heads-up. I was wondering about the webcast for today. See you tonight at Show and Tell.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Noe. 🦃
I am about to start my livestream on Instagram if anyone wants to tune in. My username is ryespi
Morning everyone, I'm going to do a special Wednesday edition of my livestream today at 12:30 pm EST
@haughty quiver Yesssssssssss...... ><>
oh great I was going to watch 3D Hangout
on in one minute!
Sound and video good.
All good here.

JOHN PARK'S WORKSHOP LIVE 11/16/17 NeoSegments + Phone Keypad @adafruit @johnedgarpark #adafruit
Hey, awesome T-shirt John!
@haughty quiver Would be nice to have a learning guide or blog about how to set up video for streaming -- cameras, sound, and lighting, too.
Nice connector evolution. Like the shrink color-coding.
Nice!
his cable tv station hacked his stream, lol
My spidey sense is sensing an upcoming wirecast crash...
Yes
yes we see you and chat window
Looks good to me.
Got it
can see the "workflow" stuff now. Lag seems to be gone.

see cad
there's a bit of intermittent audio buzz - maybe your USB hub needs power assistance?
I've got good audio.
Your process for making the enclosures make for a really professional looking end product. I cheat by using a box generator. http://www.makercase.com/
I am about to cut my case soon, which has the repeated tabs. It is a timesaver, but does not look as good.
@haughty quiver what's the program name? is there a windows equivalent?
Yes, it is an SVG that I bring into Inkscape to add other cuttouts
this is Rhino NURBS, yes on Windows.
this is the fourth loop of the carving vid now...
sorry, seems to have crashed wirecast...
ditto, @inner spade
sorry, restarting wirecast, standby
no prob. Part of the live video experience.
may computer hates me for the amount of data I'm sqeezing through it
All systems go...
it's all greek to me - badum-tish!
we need an audio rim-shot emoji
@haughty quiver video source switch lag is back
... about a 40 sec delay
these are M3 screws/nuts, right?
@dire bane the nylon screws are M2.5, I think.
nylon? looked powder coated to me 😃
The black ones are from the Adafruit assortment, I think.
I use those a lot. Also translucent white nylon, too.
The keying tab can be snapped off easily.
yeah, he answered it after I typed it
@haughty quiver That's a great enclosure design. The raster markings look very good.
Is that USB panel mount extender available from Adafruit?
@heavy siren Yes. They're a go-to for many of my projects. Adafruit has a nice assortment.
@inner spade Thanks, I have many applications for those.
@heavy siren They work well with just a round hole for the rectangular USB connector, too. Handy if you don't have a CNC or laser cutter.
This is what I use for the micro USB panel cable. Just use round drills. My chisels aren't sharp enough...
yes, the no signal box is still there
The humble x-acto knife works well too
That it does @eager sapphire
I use a "nibbler" for cutting square holes in my ABS boxes
This project has really got me wanting a laser cutter. Can Santa Claus make them in his shop I wonder?
@dire bane Yes, a Nibbler works well to.
Isn't that where all toys come from?
When you are your own Santa Claus, it kinda....well cancels itself out.
“Kid was not THAT good this year”
Yup, and I love toys. Remember, the only difference between a man and a boy is the price of his toy. 😃
@haughty quiver Yes, the bench camera is working.
Lookin sweet!
If you say getting a pitch/color, they're not independent currently right?
Brilliant!
They're actually neopixels inside right, just really well diffused/blocked for the segments?
Thanks for the unexpected production during thanksgiving week, @haughty quiver
Nice job John. Great project.
@haughty quiver Thank you, John! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
@haughty quiver Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family, and everyone here. 🦃
thanks all!
@proven lintel I believe I have them connected, but IIRC the value knob also modifies it, not just hue. but it was late when I wrote it :)
Thanks @haughty quiver for the awesome project and complete build log!
I discovered this through Twitter and wanted to pitch in if anyone has questions about Neosegment as I'm the one manufacturing those 😉
Man, I'm seriously disappointed. I make it a point to watch Show and Tell / AAE live whenever I can, but I'm just too exhausted today. Practically falling asleep in my chair here... Guess I'll have to hit up YouTube tomorrow when I'm less dead.
@river peak Get some rest, take care of yourself first and foremost.
@river peak Take it easy.
@river peak As a subtitle I saw today said "Be still in landscape mode"
Nothing from me tonight. I have a few things in the works, and waiting on boards for v2 of my previous 2 projects.
I'd show and tell a pumpkin bread I made earlier, which now when cooled makes an amazing french toast.
But somehow, I don't think this is the proper venue 😛
@waxen thistle Pumpkin bread french toast. I'm totally on board.
French toast pumpkin bread
@waxen thistle I did make some ciabatta yesterday that turned out well.
whipped cream and cinnamon go well with it too
I was thinking of doing a Maple-infused whipped cream, I saw that mentioned in a cooking blog...and I was like, YES. Must try.
I'm cool. I'll be making dinner after the shows
Glad I’m not on the S&T tonight, stomach now vocalizing.
@everyone SHOW-AND-TELL LIVE VIDEO! 11/22/17 (video) https://youtu.be/PViuYRCpO_o

Here we go!
great to see you fine folks! Looking forward to next week!
And like, usual -- Good Evening all you wonderful people!
Hi all

BLINKY!! Love it
lol, thanks @waxen thistle
HE'S HERE!
How many is a crap ton?... Proudct #??
@haughty quiver I'm jealous, I can't exactly put an Epilog in my apartment.
That is so blinky and soooo many channels
@harsh bone Metric or imperial "ton"?
just get a good fume extractor if you do
takes a deep breath of the fresh laser cut wood.
Hue light connector @haughty quiver
what are the odds that @low fractal is reprogramming his brain w all those lights?
High.
Yaah Sophy's mic works this week!
@lethal lagoon Yay!
JP is making a laser cut DHD for a Stargate. Thanks Phil, the secret is out.
...shhhh...
Sweet selfie cam @lethal lagoon!
That's awesome @lethal lagoon 😃
love the design so much @lethal lagoon !
Such a clean and colorful and happy design 😃
Rebecca, come see us at ATCNE in Warwick, RI (next th/fr)
@lethal lagoon Mic is working. Where's MIDI?
MIDI’s probably hogging Discord right now
@haughty quiver now if you are able to add capasative touch to where are those circular ring of characters
Rebecca, keep up the great work with teachers and students!
@runic acorn awesome work
Chris! Good to see you on Show & Tell
@sterile siren I love the design!
Happy Thanksgiving, Chris Young!

Show and Tell every Wednesday at 7:30pm ET! To join, leave a comment on the Show and Tell announcement on Adafruit's G+ page, then you’ll be invited each week to share your project!
@open girder thank you for making that happen and providing the hardware!
i am definitely printing that lil xmas tree
Keep track of the planet. Because...if you misplace a planet, it's really embarrassing.
It's like when you forget where you park your car. But worse.
Internet of Themometers, we might want to keep an eye on that data.
@open girder There are some really good SG: Atlantis and SG: Universe comics that pick up where the series left off.
yah, unvierse is kinda like makers in space
Great show. Should not have been cancelled.
Nice
it's the ultimate fidget toy. i need it. @haughty quiver
every answer is "Acorn" lol
Whatever you do, don't cook with baby oil.
Truly delightful, I can concentrate on what I want to do and do it quickly
I use Atom currently, I'll have to try Mu if it meets Adafruit's seal of approval.
Acorn is the company that developed the ARM processor family. No-one (relatively few) remembers the microcomputers but 'everyone' has an ARM equipped phone.
--originally developed--
👏 @pearl portal Very classy.
Diplomacy works
What was the Issue ?
Dale, his eyes wide open
this is why you shouldn't listen to internet rumours...
What was the Issue ?
*conspiracy theories
I don't think it can be discussed here on Discord due to the nature of the conspiracy theories
@dire bane Not sure that's true - the rumors were that she wasn't doing the engineering herself and that she was just used for publicity. I think it's bunk. There may be more, but I think that's the core.
Soft skills for business, brought to you by Adafruit.
there was that other one... read the the article and you can work it out due to what wasn't said
...“never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” - margaret mead
@open girder thank you for using your powers for good!
hahah this is awesome
What was once an Adafruit tree, is now an orchard
so smart for companies to provide 3D model assets for their products, for 3D modeling and VR projects

haha awesome 😄
you know you made it when you have a wikipedia page
why is it called "Adafruit"?
You can hack it, you want an off switch, you can do it 😃
that was great @open girder !
Apparently Phil T. sounds sufficiently like Phil M. that my Google Home just went nuts....

If I was going to write my first guide for possible inclusion @ Adafruit, is there a template or a guide to make a guide???
I like to talk to cleverbot on messenger
@open girder I didn't mean to derail this question - I would like LImor's answer as well " during the Q/A, any advice for FRC and any FIRST teams? "

awesome, thanks

Has anyone used adafruit thermal printer for printing receipts
Bye
@pearl portal Thank you for another excellent evening of shows!
@grand tulip my selfie bot project has a thermal printer in it, for printing photos
Thanks all! Great show. And I'll be hacking all day tomorrow, so the correct wish is "Happy Hacking!" 😃
happy thanksgiving yall!
Thankful for Adafruit and all....
Have a great holiday everyone!

@clear matrix Oh yeah, I knew there was something I forgot to put on the list.... 😉
@lethal lagoon yeah I have seen people use them to print photos have seen people use them too print repeated preformed text and I have seen test but I haven't yet seen anyone capable of using a thermal receipt printer to print thermal receipts
Of course, totally ready for a break because I can't get the FONA808 to talk to the Raspberry Pi. 😦
What is the significance of "The moment of zenor" I get that it's an electronics component, but is there anything else to it?
Missed the show tonight, but I'm sure it was fantastical. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.!!
Lol, ok gotcha, that makes sense @paper peak . thanks
The Daily show ended with a Moment of Zen, apparently: google that
nice. 😃
Zena .. unless it got cut short .. 😛
or Zener* technically ..
Xena if you prefer ;D
And hopefully a pic of MOSFET the cat 😄 🐱
the component is, of course, a zener diode 😃
@paper peak @ivory kiln I assume it's a play on Stewart's moment of zen.
Xena, warrior diode.
Na that's ok @paper peak . I'm going to get back to building my lil race cars. I got to the good part of getting them programmed before the show & tell started which means almost time to play with them. 😃
Happy thanksgiving (and hacking) y’all! 😜
Thanks, @alpine notch ! Happy thanksgiving (and hacking) to you, too!
Happy Turkey day!! @everyone All of you wonderful makers!!!!!!
hi everyone. is anyone online who understands smoothing signals using capacitors?
I can probably help some with caps... what are you trying to smooth?
soon...
@glossy glacier Do you have an ETA for the stream?
Sorry, not going to happen tonight. I just got new streaming software and I am getting it going.
And the SEM is really not happy about being in the cold it turns out, it is having problems starting up.
@inner spade
@glossy glacier Bummer. How cold is it there?
@inner spade 40, which turns out to be no good for it.
I think we've switched weather patterns somehow. It's 45 and raining here...
I spent some of today figuring out how to seal up the garage door. I have a plan now that should work though.
What will be your approach? I assume that you'll still want a functional door, too.
Yeah, I am going to have to do a bit of work though if I ever want to open it.
The door is actualy too big for the size of hole in the wall, so there is a big gap around the top edge. So I am going to take that panel off of the rollers to get it straigth, and the pack pipe inulation around the door to creat an air seal. After that, I am putting reflextex over the surface of the garage door. If I want to open it, I have to take the foam insulation out, screw the top pannel rollers back on, and just open the door.
Sounds workable, particularly if you're going to insulate. It's pretty tough to fully seal a garage door.
@glossy glacier have you thought about using enclosure heaters for the SEM? I know that overall comfort is a factor for you, but it might be cheaper and keep your garage openable (is that a word?).
SEM is probably not going to be online for show and tell, I am going to try and run some leak detection hard ware on it over the next few days.
@muted mesa Alot of other things dont like to freeze either, some of the chemical procese I am going to be doing need to stay warm, and over the winter I really dont want to be frozen all the time I am working...
gotcha. garage heating is a process i hope to never research again.
It should not be that hard to fully seal up the door becuase I am planing on not opening it while I have the seals in place. When I want to open it, I spend 10 mins pulling them off and going for it.
yeah, it's really not that fun...
is it insulated?
The walls are concrete block, right? Will it be possible to insulate overhead in the ceiling area? Doing the ceiling will help tremendously.
@inner spade Yeah, plan is to do the cealing at some point to.
not gonna lie. i googled CMU...yeah, cinder blocks. hehe
The problem with cinder block walls is that you end up with exposed insulation if drywall isn't added. Fire codes are picky about exposed insulation.
Yeah, I dont think I am going to spend enough winters in the shop to warnd all of that work...
yeah, overhead insulation is where you'll get the best bang for buck. after that, it all comes down to how much power you have available.
and which type (electric vs gas)
I know 'cause I remodeled my garage a couple of years ago. Tore the roof off, moved the ceiling up 2.5 ft, then insulated the rafters up to about R30.
R30...that's well planned.
R13 in the walls. Replaced the big door with one rated at R9.
lol no way I am getting to that
You can get 3.5-inch R13 if you look around.
right now, I have this giant 8 inch gap runing along the top of my garage door, so its pretty much imposible to heat.
Yeah, it's probably not about R-value, but more about CFM leakage!
I keep a fan runing right now to make sure that dew isint that big of a problem.
CFM is really bad right now...
wow. tarp, blankets, and duct tape would improve your situation at this point.
Yeah, thus why I am working on the garage door right now.
or newspaper. suprisingly good insulator.
how many sq ft? the little 240v 5kw heaters can heat a space pretty well (all other things considered).
370
With the SEM going, I dont have that much power left over. I can do a pellet stove where I live.
Last year we had a lot of days bellow freezing.

Hi all
oooo, that serial app sounds nice
Super Simple Serial? Do you just add milk?
Whenever I hear "serial" I think "cereal"...
yum
yay jobs
electron?
*looking it up now
@odd stream we can hear you now!
Electron is a microcontroller communications board from Particle (formerly Spark)
I though that electrons were my thing... Il share with scot though.
Build cross platform desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
this is the diff in my code: https://github.com/zeit/hyper/compare/canary...tannewt:canary
@glossy glacier stop hogging the electrons
ok...
@glossy glacier Just figure out how to use a SEM as a serial terminal
I just keep the 30kv ones.
My vacuum tubes liberate electrons from their cold metal prisons
I use serial all the time for work. You mean I'll need to carry a SEM to do 115200 baud connections now?
nice timer!
Desktop SEMs are avalible if you would like
Paper trick is cool.
@sweet kernel my hacked code is here: https://github.com/tannewt/hyper
ok
I'm trying to get the tabs showing the board name
@rapid hornet Nice!
Ok going to take a look I will get back to you in a couple hrs.
@sweet kernel thank you, you rock!
Ha.... gonna explain binary to this room? 😉
not everyone knows 😃
What's that diagramming program he's using? I think it says "Legacy"...

@glossy glacier That's amazing
@clear matrix Science!
@glossy glacier has all the high-tech gizmos
Just a handheld gas mass spectrometer. Just. 😃
Isn't that how Half Life 1 started? Adam, are you trying to open a portal to Xen?
I just managed to stab myself on the old fillament...
@glossy glacier That's the first step to becoming Tron.
I reached for the mouse in the filament was in the way
... a very small, lives in the SEM Tron.
i'll be starting my exploration of circuit python soon - i ordered some stuff from adafruit monday 😃

The ADafruit team is probably tired after fulfilling Black Friday & Cyber Monday orders

does anyone know of a crimp type solution for making custom wiring harnesses with standard .1" pin spacing?
Adafruit has some faily new harness make your own .1"
Would this work? https://www.adafruit.com/product/3145
[conductors are listed below in related products]
thanks, I'll look into it. possibly.
@pure yarrow need a special crimper, but otherwise pretty straight forward
They have the precrimped rainbow cables now
yep. or you can get pre-crimped wires if you don't need custom lengths.
Premium Female/Female Raw Custom Jumper Wires - 40 x 6" (150mm)
PRODUCT ID: 3141
yeah, that looks like what I was looking for. Thanks!
Know Electron? Find Scott!
Who has the Electron problem?
that was so five minutes ago
I do! (though I fixed it)
@pure yarrow crimper tool: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1213
I highly recommend buying precimped wires
parchment paper
Oh, ok. That is the Particle processor correct?
Cool, thanks cater!
@heavy siren I'm using the javascript electron thing
Runs on Node JS I believe.
Oh, my bad... ><>
it's pronounced "miu" because it's the "µ" letter

Welcome Bill
In fact support is uniformly and consistently very pleasant

@pure yarrow if you go the crimp tool route, you'll also need blank pins:
https://www.pololu.com/product/1930
https://www.pololu.com/product/1931
These female pins can be crimped on 22-28AWG wires and snapped into our crimp connector housings to create custom cables that are compatible with standard 0.1"-pitch headers and solderless breadboards. Our wires with pre-crimped terminals use these same pins. One female crimp pin pack consists of 100 pins.
These male pins can be crimped on 22-28AWG wires and snapped into our crimp connector housings to create custom cables that are compatible with standard 0.1"-pitch headers and solderless breadboards. Our wires with pre-crimped terminals use these same pins. One male crimp pin pack consists of 100 pins.
If you buy the precrimped cables, you might have greater reliability
The Galactic Empire, realizing that domination is ultimately self-defeating, repurposes all AT-ATs as mobility devices.
There is another empire that is making AT-ATs, ATMakers is a bit more down to Earth
@pure yarrow i'd suggested starting with the pre-crimp wires, just showing you the options
AT = Assistive Technology
All-Terrain Assistive-Technology
Chris Young has been on Show & Tell with some assistive technology projects in past shows
@strange mantle Thanks. Some of my projects require specific lengths with differing numbers of wires. The options you have shown should work well.
Is there a way we can use our skills to help? I mean, I know there is, but where can we go to see what we can make to help?
So, can someone recommend voice activated module - for assistive tech project.
@worn bloom I recommend a MOVI shield for the UNO.
it would be so cool to see chris' house
@heavy siren thanks! I'll look it up
Workbench tours
What Phil just said. We need to help this tech catch up!
@worn bloom , u can use a feather with IFTTT, and use google to do voice control
Chris also open source published a great IR remote library, it's on http://learn.adafruit.com/
@sacred isle Interesting idea!!! I'll research
Yw, I ued it for a servo project on show and tell
Can probably use the Google AIY Voice Kit help wiith AT projects (currently out of stock at Adafruit, Microcenter stores have them)
true @spring heath
Have you used, by chance, EasyVR? @sacred isle @heavy siren
Also Amazon Alexa interfaces to some devices
@sacred isle I looked up "voice recognition" and found a shield called "EasyVR 3" ... but it's at sparkfun (apologies for mentioning this)
oh
Hmm might have to build something like this for myself soon.
voice recognition is sooooo useful as a switch in AT
ik
@heavy siren wow!! I gotta follow up on MOVI
@worn bloom MOVI My Own Voice Interface is speaker independent. That's the holygrail.
😃
Yup, WOW is right. It's very cool.
how much 😬
I noticed a theme, big-mac, candy-corn, jack-in-the box,
Phil just triggered my Google Home
$75
I need a tickle me and go away button
@heavy siren OMG --- amazing!!!
@worn bloom Thought you'd like it.
@heavy siren I'm floored that something like this exists. This...meets so many needs, I wish I knew about this years ago.
Great work!
Mine works great.
It supports spanish and german. Wow.
Right, and it produces a text string of what it heard. I send that to a pyboard, use python to process the string and build a response which gets sent back to the UNO and spoken by the MOVI. Ya, It speaks to.
It's a ton of fun to work with.
Can arduino shields be used with a feather, via breadboard connections?
@waxen thistle sure, serial or i2c are available
@waxen thistle usually yes, just make the right connections via a jumper source (breadboard works)
@open girder level is a bit low
@spring heath , I bought the AIY Voice Kit and just started playing with it. It's pretty cool. You really just need a RPi3 (or even Ubuntu PC) and speaker/mic to use the Google Assistant SDK. https://developers.google.com/assistant/sdk/overview
@severe inlet way cool, it'd be great seeing how people can make with the kit.
@severe inlet 1st, MOVI needs no OS and 2nd, MOVI does not need to be online. All functionality is local.
To me, that's huge.
@heavy siren , That is really cool. Especially no network connection needed.
@clear matrix, what is today's code again? ATMAKERS?
yup!
Sure is!
ATMAKERS, code gets 10% off at Adafruit tonight
10% off all items in stock code is ATMAKERS expires 11/29/17 @ 11:59pm ET #askanengineer http://www.adafruit.com @open girder
Chhers to Naomi Wu for advocating new iron lung collars for a US woman in need. Anyone can pitch in anywhere on the globe
I also bring up the MOVI because I want ATMAKERS aware of it. Since it's speaker independent, they could easily obtain voice command for thier people.
good work and well done @pearl shoal !!
Like in the movie "It's a wonderful life"
@heavy siren from quick read of MOVI, power supply cannot be battery?
@pearl shoal I may be able to donate some time to help out with the website 😃
Yeah... boat work!
Hi! I bought 2 starter Raspberry Pi 3 Model B kits plus 2 more Pi and bought 2 NOOBS. Do I need an SD (NOOBS) card for each Pi? (I thought starter kit would have cards)
Boats... so expensive.
@cloud saddle You'll need an SD card for each Pi
SD cards are, effectively, their hard drive.
Break Out Another Thousand
Microsoft does something similar, but instead of paying the employes, they donate to organazations at an hourly rate based on how much time employes volunteer at them.
@worn bloom What's wrong with a 9 volt.
@heavy siren ok got it
ok thanks...
@worn bloom Believe me, the power requirements are no big deal considering what it does.
slo-mo-pick-n-pull!
so its not like i can burn image and loan out NOOBS for someone to do the same, they need the card...
@cloud saddle Correct
@cloud saddle correct. basically, pi won't run without an sd card installed.
@heavy siren I was hoping USB 5v would do. Mobility is important. In any case, 9V w rechargeable battery would work. I totally agree the features outweigh anything else.
What was that huge block of filament?
Is that what it’s for?
I'm just guessing
I'd like to know also

@river peak That's awesome
There have been six people join the press atmakers Facebook group during the broadcast.
What was the huge block of filament in the multi-color print
Yes, we want Feather version of that!
Alexa: Buy everything from Adafruit.
Please stop saying alexa

Poor Cat.
lmao
Stop saying Alexa!
@round willow you should change your trigger 😃
sorry to lol at your pain @round willow

There have been six people join the atmakers Facebook group during the broadcast.
Chris, that is cool
Ooooo, I really want that book
10% off today code atmakers
@open girder Do you ever think about putting googly eyes on your manufacturing equipment?
10% off all items in stock code is ATMAKERS expires 11/29/17 @ 11:59pm ET #askanengineer http://www.adafruit.com @open girder
Toot toot.
Ahahaha that's amazing.

Googly eyes
I remember that @trim mountain
Well, we know LadyAda isn't a vampire.
Phil & Limor were walking in the park in a recent video posted to Twitter, the sun didn't reduce them to ash
They didn't sparkle either.
Yay Green Phil, helping people is number one
I had some garlic ice cream in Gilroy, CA
If I used Facebook, I would join 😃
on the web go to atmakers.org and see what is up
Great show @open girder . And an additional tip-0-the-hat to the behind the scenes guys; well done as always!
long week for phil
yah
@open girder Thank you again for another wonderful evening of shows!
😃
Thanks guys!
thanks y'all
Goodnight everyone!
@open girder Thanks for everything!
Yes, I think the Adafruit staffers have worked many long days to get all folks' orders processed
Ahem. A cat??
They showed Mosfet the cat before the video
Yes, just chiding Phil for not calling him MOSFET heh
He was normal, not the cyber cat they had on Monday with the laser eye
Mosfet is the star of the show, after Limor of course
Cats with lasers > sharks with lasers
or, in adaspeak: robot friend w/ lasers > cats w/ lasers > sharks w/ lasers
atmakers.org is on Twitter also @at_makers
Alright... time to set up my shiny new 3D printer.
just added @at_makers to my "Maker" list
I need to go de-rust and wax the tablesaw. got some milling to do for gifts...
It's probably help ATMAKERS if twitter amplified the good work and the matchmaking makers <->AT needs
@open girder ... that 10% was unresistable ... my wife may not talk to me for a while ... oops
Excellent use of technology
night all!
Night Scott!
@river peak grats on your new printer! how exciting
good night all, everyone get some rest if on the East Coast or Europe/Africa or further east
@lethal lagoon It's a tiny one, but it was also <$170 so...
@river peak 👍
Great show today. I ♥️ Adafruit
@river peak which printer did you get?
I half expected my cat to make an appearance last night. He's taken to randomly hopping onto my lap when I'm at my desk.
He doesn't have a fun electronics name, though. I hung around with a woman at one point who was a web dev and ran a small server farm. She had cats names Packet, and Five. .. I'll wait while you get it.
@odd stream I picked up the Monoprice Mini v2. Small, but it was on sale. Ended up just about $165
Nice. That is cute! I ended up getting the new Prusa kit. Big enough to make some useful project enclosures and such.
I went with the Prusa for it's bulletproofness., and the ability to snap a Pi0w on it for Octoprint.
I.e. I'm not interested in being "into" 3d printing. I just want to be able to print 3d things without much fuss. That said, building it from a kit will give some deeper understanding of how it works. Not to mention being a fun evening/weekend project.
@river peak that's a great machine. I have the V1 (currently needing to get an E3D V6 mount printed for me and the bed rewire so I can get it up and running again) I almost picked up another.
For a small printer its extremely awesome and affordable
And the community is great, namely the facebook community and guides around the net!
@odd stream I use a pi3 on my Mini with a custom printed mount for Octo
@proven lintel Ah, cool!
I love Octo Print, I miss having my printer running, it broke down 2 weeks after buying $220 worth of filament 😦
I'm hoping to find someone that can print in ABS so I can get my E3D mount printed and up and running again
Alas no one I know is a maker lol
@proven lintel It saw the spools, got stressed, and gave up.
@proven lintel I hear that. My maker community is all online, and mostly here.
Saw what spools?
@odd stream yeah, same here with it being online, but I did find out my local library supports a small maker space
so I'm going to go check that out.
@proven lintel I'm running my V6 with a PLA mount. It mounts above the fins, so it is fine. If t is being cooled properly, the hot end should never get hot enough up there to melt anything. Mine stays cool enough to touch near the mount.
@peak bloom Yeah I think PLA would be fine too, except it puts me in the same boat, still no one to print me the 0 offset V6 mount
So I'm stuck printerless until I figure that out. I wish I could just order it from somewhere. I'd gladly pay for it.
Do you have direct drve or bowden? I have a bowden set up, and once zip tied my hot end on so that I could print long enough to get a proper mount. lol
Bowden
@peak bloom haha, that's awesome. I'm also having issues with my be wiring. Contacts look fine but getting a discconect so I need to finish drilling my rewire holes.
I guess I should just finish that up and then try and print the mount with the one I currently have (which isn't 0 offset, so home is slightly off the print bed)
@proven lintel the spools of filiment
@proven lintel Take a look at VooDoo. Http://www.voodoomfg.com
Might be able to print what you need
Also, it looks like the Mini V2 has a basic web interface but I wasn't having any luck with it. I'm going to fiddle with it more tonight
OctoPrint seems pretty cool though.
@odd stream octopi is easy to modify to have two cameras! :3
@river peak octoprint is convenient 😃 CURA has a "print to octoprint" support
Heh, nice
I'm not bothered. It's half a step if the web interface works. If it doesn't, it's just up the stairs. Woo.
@river peak Yeah, mine will be about 5 feet away from my desk. But it'd be nice not to have to spin in my chair to check on it, ya know?
The camera bits are the cool parts
Super!
We are ready here, sir.
Video and audio okay!
@haughty quiver Would using the EN pin for power on-off work with your setup?
It would allow you to charge the battery via usb when the power switch is off.
Nice to not have open flames, too.
Nicely done, @haughty quiver ! Very cool. Takes me back...
@inner spade thanks so much for the excellent idea on EN pin!
Somewhere in this lab I have an old Atari joystick. Project awaits!!
thanks for coming by to hang out, everyone
@haughty quiver nice that it's on ble as i have watched bleHelper a lot lately
Well if you ever have to install electron onto ubuntu after you install all the dependencies you have to use this command.
sudo npm install -g electron --unsafe-perm=true --allow-root
Might save someone a day of trying things that don't work. Of course this is only after you figure out how to get the rest of the dependencies working on your machine. However, the --allow-root directive isn't exactly clear because the directions they give don't include it. With that ubuntu
Does @open girder give out sparky stickers or patches for horror stories?
@odd stream maybe. if the horror story is some kind of electronics mistake / learning experience, then yes:
https://blog.adafruit.com/2017/08/29/celebrate-mistakes-together-with-sparky-the-blue-smoke-monster-adafruit-discordapp-adafruit/
but if the horror story is just about being chased by a monster or something, then maybe not...
Ah pins. Cool, thanks.
np. actual blue smoke is not required, just a bonus.
what if it is purple smoke...
Then you've found some Nitrogen Triiodide
or maybe it was a CPX catching on fire?
I think its better when you kill them quietly so you can be confused ans ask support for help. I may/ or / maynot have done that with an oversized stepper motor and a motorsheild.

I wanted to thank Phil & Lady Ada for giving my class some Circuit Playground Express devices. My middle School class made a number of projects with them and then showed them off to the 4th graders. My class has really enjoyed learning about programming and the younger kids really loved seeing the projects. I thought I'd share some notes the 4th graders wrote as they really seemed to love the Circuit Playgrounds as well. Consider these notes to Adafruit as well as my class, as you guys have been very generous with your time and learning resources.
Thanks again for your generosity!
@soft dawn I do believe this should be repeated in #hug-reports and probably e-mailed to them. I'm sure they'll love to see it
You're right, sorry! I meant to do it there! 😩
No worries!
@soft dawn thanks for sharing. those are awesome. and thanks for teaching!
Indeed, thank you for teaching! That's a tremendously difficult job, and it's one of the few that makes such a wonderful difference for the better in the world.
@waxen thistle @strange mantle Thanks!
Good Morning World! Anyone know what time 3D webcast by Noe and Pedro is on today? I'm in Chicago, CDT.
@shell mason Ya, where's that schedule bot at???
Good morning... ><>
@soft dawn Just got my home town newspaper and saw this headline. I graduated in 1975 from here. Very small town. 😃
