Itโs a snek
I heard โSnackโ

Congratulations on being an effecient and responsive company. That's why we love you all so much!
@eager sapphire I did too
Snek = internet for snake.
thanks folks, everyone at adafruit appreciates all the kind words
i prefer snacks, not snakes
@lean grail what about sneks
Never seen a man catch a snek before
what about snek snacks?
ehhh still rather have snacks over sneks
Can you work on getting Adafruit IO as an app?
Do you have a cable/harness tester at adafruit?
Oh, thatโs good
Just a thanks for releasing the signed Make magazines.... Get mine tomorrow!
Any recomendations for an arbitrary waveform generator?

How do you get the app on last week's show and tell
AD9102 for arbitrary waveform gen.
Q: Is there any technical reason why making a Pi doubler/tripler would be a bad idea? There are too many less-than-fullsize faux-hats that are handy but hose stackability.
What does the Pick and Place use for vacuum? Venturi?
Speaking of supply chain, is there any update on the M4 availability? (I was late, so sorry if I missed it.)
Other than using millis(), what options do we have to run multiple "threads" on Arduino? Does CircuitPython support multithreading?
the one with the jumping resistor made in unity
I was working on a ultrasonic sensor and it was displaying weird number. Do you have any tips?
@sacred isle mho's resistance
yes
recommendations on inexpensive oscilloscope? o
@buoyant scroll micropython does have threading but its untested in circuitpython
Thanks @inner spade
Thanks Scott!
@fringe scarab constantly lurking in craigslist might work
Any advice for building a PCB that triples up the VL53L0X sensor using i2c?
Any thoughts on a refreshed Fona ... new module w/ LTE?
not the seeed studio nano. have it and not happy
@fringe scarab Depends on definition of "inexpensive." I have the Rigol 4-channel DSO from the Adafruit store and really like it.
Thanks Adafruit!
@steep pecan https://www.adafruit.com/product/2717
Yay!
inexpensive is less than $400
Trivia question answer: 42. ๐ ๐ ๐
@round willow #help-with-projects is where you can post more details
I've seen people not get those 3 questions right
@open girder here's a better picture of the nerf gun since it didn't show well on camera
very cool ๐
@lean grail It showed up pretty well on Vid
oh oki! on my screen it just looked like a bright white light....
@fringe scarab https://www.adafruit.com/product/2145 (and there's a 10% off code right now)
I've never used an oscilloscope before. Is that a good one? Mid tier? Beginner? ๐
Thanks, @strange mantle !
I have Rigol... love it... 1040Z
That one has seen a few positive reviews - Iโve never used a Rigol, though
@waxen thistle excellent beginner to mid. Has some nice advanced options, too.
@eager sapphire I have that one too and its worked well
Thanks and good night!
๐
Thanks!
@open girder Thanks for another awesome evening of shows!
Thanks!
Great show!
night all! time to go be social
thanks everyone ! 10% off all items in stock code is STAMPJOY expires 10/4/17 @ 11:59pm ET #askanengineer http://www.adafruit.com
bye
just caught the end but fun show! night all!
This is pretty sweet music ๐
@cater i have a way to adjusdt their addresses. I was more wondering about the specific circuit diagram. Could i runn the i2c for all three sensor through the same logic level shifting as is on the breakout or do i also need to triple up the logic level shifting.
@steep pecan good question for the forums
๐
@paper peak @harsh bone Regarding listservs before, for some reason I got my wires crossed with newsgroups. Although I got started with tech a while ago, I'm not that vintage ๐ I never did get into the newsgroups community.
@waxen thistle np - listserv is a pretty antiquated term (the software is pretty antiquated itself). I was using newsgroups when UUCP was a big thing.
i had an account on the well... and used mosaic long ago
my bad. i had an account on the world... std tool and die in boston.
Just getting home. What neat stuff did I miss on Show and Tell and Ask an Engineer tonight?
Tardis FeatherWing
Someone is getting a second electron microscope ๐
WAIT
A SECOND SEM?
That's just not right.
...Also
Make a game or robotic controller with this Joy-ful FeatherWing.This FeatherWing has a 2-axis joystick and 5 momentary buttons (4 large and 1 small) so you can turn your feather board into a ...
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED
I'm not going to say who, but his name rhymes with "Fathom" ๐
Oh, it's totally right. Dual wielding SEMs ๐
The other one ways about twice as much as my current one...
SEMs all the way down.
From ๐ฌ to ๐ฌ ๐ฌ
@glossy glacier How's it going? Did you get everything decontaminated/cleaned?
@strange mantle The TARDIS featherwing, is it powered by 5v, 3.3v, or an Eye of Harmony? If the latter, what's the adafruit item number for an artificial black hole?
@analog acorn The e- gun is done, but now I am working on the valve body... I found some bad stuff in it. Never assume that an o-ring is good becuase it came that way.
Noted!
@river peak you missed my muted mic and bright lights that didn't show as I'd hoped lol.
And I vote that we rename show and tell to Show and Charades.
Lol. I'm a cat.... Did I mute myself???
No, it was Sophy's cat walking across her screen
I know. I meant for me tonight
@lean grail once on show and tell i had a muted mic and it wasn't even MIDI's fault! I charaded my Ghostbuster Proton Pack ๐
ever since last week though, we call MIDI "The Computer Muter"
Your cat's name is MIDI? That's entirely fitting
Show and Tell and Ask an Engineer were great! I kinda missed it live, but I got to watch it later!
Haven't been doing much electronics wise lately, too busy
@buoyant scroll regarding your question on "threading" in Arduino, you can use millis() to work out timings when to run something, a really basic example of this would be the blink without delay example that's in the ide
It's not really threading, but it does stop delay taking all your cpu cycles
@analog acorn have you use foltable keyboard?
....
.....
test pass
@hard hollow @rocky reef thanks for the shout out on 3d hangout yesterday! I am working on a guide for selfie bot, any advice/suggestions welcome!
@river peak yep we named her MIDI because she makes little beeps and boop noises
I'm going to fire up my live broadcast in a minute, LMK if video and audio seem OK, thanks!
Looking and sounding good on YouTube
good sound on YouTube
doin' it live!
Does that make it Facebook Dead?
almost wrote 'googles'
... put both ends of each wire in the helping hand to tin at the same time...
Never thought about the "defy gravity" tack approach. Nice.
... and soft ruler, too. Always get some great hints and ideas from your live workshop vids, @haughty quiver
Could even set up a Pi Zero as a super-cheap editor for Circuit Python, unless I'm missing something.
@river peak yeah. I'm considering using a Feather TFT as a VT100 / editor. Would be nice if it was powered by CP, too.
Using Circuit Python to edit Circuit Python... Now THAT would be cool
And use that new bluetooth keyboard.
threeceps are missing one of the finger holes.
@river peak they're like twoceps only with three...
In order to be able to see LEDs, I usually have to turn their brightness WAAAAAY down
On cameras that is
@river peak or put very dark glass in front of them.
Sometimes both!
Thanks!
Whadda wise guy!
;)
Thank you for all the details @haughty quiver
I finally just set a reminder on the iPad to beep at SHOWTIME
Canโt seem to type SHOWTIME without going all CAPS
excellent
Thank you, I need to rewatch for the "attach to ring to the google" but it was fun to see you do live.
This schedule is nice for Europe as it not too late ๐
@fallow fractal I fully agree.
that's great to hear @fallow fractal and @terse sparrow
Why are all the code now in one project on github ? (vs a separate project as before)
im a little slow, but has Adafruit abandoned delivering the show on iTunes? Sorry if this is old news.
I have to watch it as I was playing fortnite
yay I found the channel
@haughty quiver. My order came through #steampunkgoggle ๐
@haughty quiver those goggles looks like psyconaut goggles what came from lootgaming crate
@radiant ridge think PiGoggles
@haughty quiver Dan Brown who's house is a huge mystery box
as @haughty quiver I think i could customize this with neopixel rings myself
as you can see if i can make this so that my eyes hide from other way it would be cool
be the psyconaut with your own Adafruit goggles and customize use wiht @haughty quiver tips
I fully support this line of reasoning. ; )

@hard hollow @rocky reef is live
Huzzah!
hello folks!
HUzza 3D printing hangout isnt anything without audio issues right @rocky reef
Since when have we been using YouTube chat for 3d hangouts?
Since, ahhhhh, always???
well the streamkit wasnt working so well then use youtube chat in overlay
@hard hollow @rocky reef check this 3 coil Qi charger https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2180865
The talk about the charger is making me wonder about salvaging an Anker 20,000 mA*hr battery that I have that doesn't seem to be worknig.
It won't accept change through the micro-usb port, which I think has come loose.
was searching 3Coil Qi wireless chargers as there must be something
Would we get a Sparky pin for building destructive testers for components?
@wild urchin you could resolder it
If I can get it open and discover what's wrong.
If it's as simple as that, I'm going to fix it that way.
But it's tempting to extend it to do Qi also.
I resolder one usb TV stick
Ballooning 6000mAh battery seems ... terrifying.
@wild urchin then it releases the blue smoke...
thanks for watching folks!
@rocky reef thanks for doing the show!
@wild urchin Ballooning any LiPo is terrifying
@normal vector Agreed. I'm ... concerned for a friend of mine who has his old MacBook Pro battery pack in a bucket in his apartment.
He swapped in a new pack after the old one started ballooning inside the laptop.
He's not sure where he can dispose of it.
@rocky reef think 3Coil Qi charger to Adabot body
@shell mason ah , good idea!
eyes can light up when charging and when fully charged lights change color
Wearable costume charging port, maybe?
oooh, BORG costume charging. Stand in the nook and actually charge the batteries powering your prop prosthetics.
You'd have to be careful about your choice of location for transmitter and receiver coils.
@wild urchin have you watched Futurama?
Interesting idea!
one is that
have bigger enough so you can place chargable devices to Adabot body when open the door
Which would be really cute.
anybody waiting for the show and tell link?

I would love half of @haughty quiver 's workshop.
Iโll take the other half then
Oh, come now. We can share.
But then John wouldnโt have much to do
LOL, I guess I'd just hang out at the coffee shop then.
Bummed to miss out on showing and telling today. Firefox wouldn't run Hangouts and by the time I switched to Safari it was full. Not sure what the purpose of commenting on the Google+ page is if the Hangout is first-come-first-serve? ๐ฆ

@neat sedge I tagged a few circuitpython issues for it after I saw your post
@rapid hornet excellent!
@haughty quiver thank you!

hi @waxen thistle
I'm not sure I'm wonderful, but hi!
have you documented it somewhere @split gazelle
Heya Scott!
@rapid hornet not sure... ๐ค
sorry, but i don't identify as wonderful
aha, found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ5eJJgpIh0
I finally got around to building a portable thermal camera with the Raspberry Pi. The thermal camera module is an AMG8833 from Adafruit and the Pi is running...
Uh-oh
@haughty quiver ah, thank you! i should have mentioned that haha
we got your back ;)
@glossy glacier will eventually own all of the SEMs
Thanks whoever made way for us! Kids were excited to show off.

@willow pollen no thanks I'm good lol
Oo nice code. I will have to watch later to see whatโs mentioned.
I forgot to mention the portal gun runs on CircuitPython!
@glossy glacier You should, eventually, SEM produce. "There's a leek in the SEM!"

we did a show once called this old pick and place
I can only imagin how much fun it was to move the pick and places into place up the elevator...

Well, @glossy glacier just planned out the rest of my night ๐
Thatโs OG for sure
Its amazing how far things have come.
very creepy
Super creepy
Adafruitโs strength is partly in itโs consistent reflection upon its humble beginnings
Blade Runner? And I thought we were talking about the My Little Pony movie.
To be fair, I still need to see both.
@eager sapphire and kinda humble continuings.... Cuz how many CEO/EENGs get all excited about random peoples projects?
Just two that I know of, @fickle umbra
@willow pollen It's more technical stuff, but you never know
prezactly
we are only here because all of you are with us on this adventure, so thanks ya'll

@open girder If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't even be attempting to do what I am doing.
I wouldn't have thought it was possible. Nor would I even know how to do it.
@river peak truth
@open girder I agree with @river peak , you guys made me motivated to make what I make. I wouldnโt be able to create the things that I have without you

great music to arrange your LEDs to. got to get those cathodes lined up
@rapid hornet See that Discord has video
@harsh bone probably my favourite update
Twitch is ahead of YouTube by about 4 seconds... If you want to be current ๐
Maybe @open girder could figure out how to stream from discord
We need a broadcast that's about 10 seconds ahead of the actual source. I mean, why not bend space and time if we're going to be bending circuits...
current... hah, the electronic puns keep coming
Iโm surprised Andon hasnโt made a pun yet
No need to have so much resistance @willow pollen
Oh nevermind
i have no capacity for resistance

in the NY office
@dawn jacinth the hardware?
Yep
looks at new products on the site. hyperventalates.
cool!
Cad models too!
@radiant sail Adafruit doesn't do interns, they hire people and pay them
30 years ๐
@dawn jacinth I love looking at pcb designs! its distracting me
๐
I have buddies over at oculus. They sadly could not open source the Firm ware ๐ฆ
@radiant sail they do paid interns actually. I'd suggest helping with open source stuff to start
I blame Zenimax
ah bummer @dawn jacinth

Cool!... I want that UPS truck!
I agree with Philโs comment about reviews without thought. Amazon already has these. โGreat product!โ 3 stars See what I mean?
radiofruit - radio shirt...did i miss a memo?
But seriously that DK2 is amazing ๐
LOL i donโt think you can get the cool lil truck tho
Postional and rotational tracking
wait, RadioFruit???? so you guys DID buy Radioshack???
@harsh bone I think it's a metaphorical UPS truck
there is more to things than 5 stars or a like button
I'll take a 1-star review that says WHY it's a 1-star review over any "It works!" or "It sucks!" review any day
Mad respect for paying people who do work. Having unpaid interns devalues their work....it's nice seeing Adafruit buck that trend.
I could so hack that truck!
@green pagoda - I asked that On the livestream :p
@harsh bone I have a few axes.
No reply yet
https://blog.adafruit.com/2012/03/18/internships-at-adafruit-why-we-do-not-have-un-paid-internships/
that's what I'm here to find out... what is this Radioshack business...
But I don't think that's the hacking you refer to
we believe in paying people
@open girder That's the best.
I can't put my opinions about unpaid internships into words without getting kicked out of the server
so they do stack!
@river peak I can put my thoughts into words. Well, word. "NO"
yup @brave spire
Mine is a bit more lengthy and involves a LOT more profanity
@rapid hornet thank you!!! I have more of a design background but love 3D printing and messing around with things haha.
nice! just keep showing stuff off here @radiant sail
Adafruit shipping rocks!
Adabowl!

They gave away those PCB rulers once... I still use mine

@river peak Fruitbowl!!!!
Adabowl, much better than Adabowel
bahahaha @river peak
Sorry, that was a crappy joke
PTO for charity work is just extraordinary
@ivory kiln yes but they have to call I think ๐
ha!
Duh duh duh
We used to have PTO for chaity work (3 days/year). It was recinded due to cuts. I feel our community has taken the brunt of that change.
i'd still grab the reeses pieces
My company never showed that kind of humanity, at least not to that degree
I need a circuit playground
I was doing live demos with Circuit Playground Express this past weekend at Greater Hartford Mini Maker Faire
It looks really cool
Awesome, Thanks @rapid hornet
@green pagoda A dead demo would be fitting the Haloween theme
@round willow Circuit Playground is one of my favorite boards because it's packed with everything you could want and more
Props to that beard ๐

That was quite a substantial soupcatcher
The circuit playground is like that sensor that was on that ask an engineer a couple weeks ago

#1 thing to prepare in a kickstater: logistics
^
Oh boy.
if someone who has a kickstarter goes on the show and tell, it ships
that is corrolation though ๐
@haughty quiver makecode for mine craft only works with Minecraft education edition (as far as I know)
planet claire?
My Kickstarter was... uh, not the best. It worked, but I did some pretty terrible ideas.
So do you folks take questions during this?
OK, that was freakin adorkable.
got it @green pagoda is that freely available, or something you need to be an educator to use?
@dawn jacinth later in the show but you can always ask here
My landlady, back in the day, looked just like that. Without the LEDs, tho.
lol
@haughty quiver there is a free trial but you basically have to be an educator in order to buy the license
@haughty quiver as that is for Windows 10 i think it could might not need that anymore
heat shrink, hot glue, and sandpaper are the secret weapons in a maker's toolbox ๐
nice! good tips
That... that is GENIUS
@waxen thistle Also, spares.
@river peak Maker's Law: always buy a complete spare set of all parts. Assume one entire prototype will be....a learning experience.
Or two.
@waxen thistle yup, we have 2 pick and places for that reason... well, sorta ๐
sanding you cant avoid in 3d printing or building using thicker foam
If I can afford it, my default is five sets of components for every prototype board
Yes, the spares are sometimes offerings to the blue smoke monster
"Why buy one when you can have two at twice the price?"
demands his sacrifice?
@waxen thistle I would agree to this 300%!!!! i sometimes buy 2-3-4 of a part just to have backups in the event something gets messed up even later on down the road. or if it breaks when i need the item most and need a quick repair job. or if you even want to make something else with it
fix it harder please
everytime i don't do that insta-regret
Those voting machines are so old
hello everyone
@fallow fractal Hi! ๐
๐
@open girder are the DigiKey ones acctually on red boards?
@fickle umbra I think so
@fickle umbra .. not the ones I received.
hi everyone!
I am looking at making a home made game console using an Rasberry Pi Zero or Rasberry Pi 3 board, a bunch of parts and a 3D printer. However I want a bit more horse power in my home made game console. I would like to run atleast a modern game engine Unity or Unreal for example. Can you recommend a chipset that would be useful to me?
Hi @lethal lagoon
yay @lethal lagoon is here!
hi @lethal lagoon
Sorry for the long question
@fickle umbra I have a red Circuit Playground Classic from Digi-Key
@dawn jacinth it may be worth looking at a small regular computer
@dawn jacinth your question is really interesting, I hope someone answers
Oh there we go
who asked Windows iot core check http://docs.microsoft.com and search there or http://windowsondevices.com
@dawn jacinth A modern game engine requires a modern computer. That doesn't mean it has to be LARGE
There's plenty of tiny computers out there, like the Next Unit of Computing
Ok interesting
@dawn jacinth maybe a mini ITX sized machine?
The MIT museum is inspiring
Thanks for the insight

What is circuit python?
@open girder The Montana Institute of Tuna???
Python is my favourite language
@dawn jacinth python that runs on microcontrollers
Otherwise, it'd be Montuna
I speak fluent python
@river peak Not one bit.
oh such good advice!!!
๐ At @open girder's advice on doing small projects.

Yeah!!!
....so that's how you do the "Time Machine" segments (via the Tardis).
And here I thought it was a Phone Booth you used...

Perfectly appropriate music for electronics making
I dont like the hotel wifi tonight.... its constantly stopping the stream
@waxen thistle what's a phone booth? ๐
@inner spade I prefer Police Call Boxes
do our bidding, robots!
I remeber phone booth that was a movie right?
terrible one
What's a police box? Do police come in boxes?
yes
911, yes I need you to ship a police right now
I thought only Doctors came in police call boxes
16-nozzles...drool
its this little pod that drops from the sky whenever you call a police officer. and a Buff police dude(or duddette) steps out and takes care of business

Arcade Button with LED - 30mm Translucent Yellow https://www.adafruit.com/product/3488
A button is a button, and a switch is a switch, but these translucent arcade buttons are in a class of their own. Particularly because they haveย LEDs built right in!ย That's ...
Pretty ๐

Nozzles!
Well, that's a nozzle idea
Nozzles!
@river peak that one was bad
sends @river peak to the punalty box
You could even say it blows
I thought the new product was going to be Radioshack ;P
interesting! I may have to pick up some nozzles
@rough shard There's still an opportunity for that
I haven't picked up a hot air rework station yet -- my (shhh!) sparkfun-branded heat gun has sufficed for all my heat shrink tubing needs ๐
I have a heat gun I don't use because I have a hot air reflow station
STEEEEEEEKERZZZZ!!!
Adafruit Flower Discord Sticker https://www.adafruit.com/product/3615
hello
@river peak I hear that Harbor Freight makes 2x different heat guns that prop makers really love -- they're solid, cheap, and they don't an automatic heat throttle.
Does the station support different nozzles, @rapid hornet
Sticker hype
Q: So what's the "news" about RadioShack? ๐
I was working with a capacitive pitft with the rpi zero, but touch wasnโt working. I tried using a user space, but without any wifi I had it upload it through a USB. I got an error that said the command didnโt exist. Any ideas?
@eager sapphire yeah, its the adafruit one
@waxen thistle I'll have to look into that
MAGIC STICKERS!!!
^
waits for everyone to ask about radioshack
Have you talked about the eyes behind you?
Q: Did Adafruit buy radio shack?
Such teases those two are
Alright forums it is
I'm still trying to figure out Discord in general...
You're kidding... You are all over the news!... That Adafruit bought Radio Shack
@open girder How bad of an idea is it to try to re-solder the lead on my lipo battery? PID: 1578 is the bat in question
hello
can you limit your heat temperature from the nozzles?

can you explain an example usage diff between powerboost and a buck-boost?
@wise wedge are you doing analog or digital electronics?
thank you
@fallow fractal yes. what was just said.
they seem like the same thing to me and then description for products isn't too diff to help me decide which to get
@round willow You're not wrong, but that was a typo on my part
Q: Does the sheep dream of electronics or Electric sheep?
ah....thank you!
@fallow fractal was typing same suggestion, but ladyada beat me to it.
I heard the Monoproce $300 3d printer is really good for its price
Yeah I have a monoprice 3d printer, I've had a positive expierance and it is pretty cheap.
yay!
@wise wedge Will check it out. I just have yet to pull the trigger. Super nervous
indeed
Yay!
grats @fallow fractal !
Thanks for the show ๐
๐
Thank you @open girder for another excellent evening of shows!
Gโnight folks and thanks
For those of you who are interested, here is the link to the live stream of the leak detector teardown! I will be starting it up soon. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb_v3Hwa40W7ZU-qgV8KOMA/live
plays it safe, orders new battery. Aannnnd a couple other things.
Thanks and good night!
@fickle umbra If you don't already have one, get a small $10-25 ABC fire extinguisher ๐
ima catch up on show & tell now...
Thanks PT
That's really playing it safe.
@waxen thistle got one.
@fickle umbra do you have a fat battery? ahh!
@lethal lagoon no, I have a battery that I didn't properly strain-relieve and the lead broke off at the battery end
thanks alot adafruit
@fickle umbra ahh different problem lol
You know what, that's just solid advice for everyone.
Get an ABC fire extinguisher for your workspace. Small ones can be had for $10-25. It's the one single-tasker item that I am happy to keep, and hope to never use.
๐ฅ
I bought a 5400 mAh 3s lipo for my project ๐บ
@fickle umbra I had that happen to one of my batteries
Also, fire extinguishers are always a good idea
i have a battery that the jst keeps breaking on, and i keep cutting the wire shorter and shorter to solder a new connector on...
Oooh geez
jst connectors... ugh.
Always watch until the end.
I don't know what id do to fix that... Maybe try soldering more wire onto the existing wire???
@severe inlet I saw that too
@dawn jacinth reading the bom for the VR thing. only microcontroller is a stm32l1
Looks like a โDo not enterโ sign
I think they just bought framed cancelled RS stock certificates but who knows....
@rapid hornet Wonder if they forgot to open source the rest of the HMD
does anyone have link to 3dprint qi charger video?
disregard, found it
Sledge hammer!!!
@harsh bone I have one of those
@haughty quiver screaming cauldron is a fun halloween project!
@haughty quiver i got a talking crow thing that i want to hack for halloween, if i get to it in time
it's not really Halloween if I'm not scrambling to finish a project for it on 10/30 ๐
@lethal lagoon What you need to do, is spend a lot of time hyping it up and talking about it, and then just find someone with a really smart crow you can borrow for Show and Tell
@river peak omg never tell anyone you're going to do something, that is just jinxing yourself! forgot about that...
now i'll definitely not finish it
So, by that logic, I should just tell everyone I'm going to fail, and then jinx myself so that I do the opposite, right?
heh could work?
I tell no one nothing, not even myself.
Lol
oh @scarlet otter awesome job on show & tell today! that portal gun is so awesome! (i got to see it in person at GeekGirlCon)
I could not even believe it was made out of soda bottles - it looked so good
Thanks, @lethal lagoon! Learned a lot making that thing...
@scarlet otter you should display it proudly in your house ๐
@lethal lagoon thanks, we're looking forward to handing out candy from it : 0
talking crow sounds rad!
I like crows.
@haughty quiver my parents had a bowl similar to yours but a hand was sticking up in the middle, and it would reach for your hand when you grabbed candy
kids will love your bowl! and the adults too!
@lethal lagoon Well, it's actually more of a toy, now. Not possible to relegate it to display as there's a lot of portaling around the house...
Everybody start sending @haughty quiver screams.
Yes!
Is there something like GitHub for sound files?
@lethal lagoon Right?
@clear matrix i know we're way past answering machines, but that's what i'm visualizing...
So we could add to a collaborative library/sound bank
BEEP.. "AAHHHHHHHHHHH!"........ BEEP... "AAAAHHHHHHH"...
His message would be, "After the beep, please scream. Thank you."
Everyone just call the Adafruit phone
BEEP... "This is your mother, why dont you call more" Me: AAHHHHHHH!
oh wait i was just visualizing my own answering machine
@scarlet otter understandable ๐ it's a high use item!
@haughty quiver the video what i linked here in the livestream answer your question
@haughty quiver in that Makecode for Minecraft Windows10 video said that it's now available for everyone
@forest pebble I've used here before
There is some sound effects etc
@lament flume cool, thank you. That should also be helpful for a project I'd put on hold for a while, the project was to have riffs played when someone comes through a doorway - it was using a raspberry pi, external speaker and an ultrasonic sensor - I didn't know about the libraries to play sounds directly from python at the time so that is the part that needs improvement
@haughty quiver it have intructions how to get it working
Americans and Canadians seem to really take Halloween seriously! It's not as big here
I live somewhere fairly rural and I haven't had one trick or treaters since I moved there
here have being some
There would be some in other places for sure, I would have went when I was younger, but just haven't had any recently
@haughty quiver Ellipsis level 2 achieved.
parallel testing @haughty quiver returned (test, test 2)
thanks all
@haughty quiver Just popped in. Are you webcasting today?
yes, in nine minutes! blog post just went out!
Great! The wife wanted to go for a walk. Oh well.... ๐
@haughty quiver think project where mystery box do something inside the game like minecraft
Sitting on /user/adafruit/live, that gonna work?
links are in here: https://blog.adafruit.com/2017/10/12/john-parks-workshop-live-today-101217-adafruit-johnedgarpark-adafruit/
it's mysterybox
@haughty quiver now with halloween project think if someone put hands on the cauldron in minecraft monsters are spawn
yup
we good?
good
We good here sir
sound and video is good
Looks good.
YouTube
I'm on youtube and Discord
I got video with an insert in upper right
good video and audio today in all setups
Looks like full width here, insert in upper right per NPike
Defusing paper? Can waxpaper be used as well?
I have similar sensor but it's thinner than that
Great idea. Your daughter is very smart.
the speakers could fit with 3D printing cover for them right?
I was thinking if you place more speakers to it would it make scarier?
I'm not familiar with a perma proto board. What exactly is it?
So you solder the backside?
Very nice. Will have to get some of those boards.
@hard hollow @rocky reef check this http://makeit.netflix.com/projects/doorbell it might contain that audio clip you wanted
The DIY Netflix personal trainer transforms your favorite character into your coach. MakeIt.Netflix.com
So the sound board is polyphonic? More than one voice at a time?
not poly, just one at a time
Oh, monophonic, like my moog
yes, but stereo if you need it
@haughty quiver that glass zoom thing remind me from National Treasure movie
Active low? right?
mini vape could do it as @hard hollow have wanted to make some testing for project
I think I would use sockets so the circuit boards could be removed.
Imagine wirewrapping them instead of soldering.
I use what I call Pre-Magnifiers that help make my magnifying glass work better. Most people just call them "Labels". ๐
OK. so what gives with the Radio Shack thing??
test the sensor with voltmeter while powered on?
I keep a roll of gaff tape next to my blutack.
Enjoyed the show.
Thanks @haughty quiver !
@haughty quiver It's always the code eh? How many times, which version, gotta love it. Pure prototyping at its best.
Right?! I think the latest version of my code is only on the Trinket on the breadboard. Oops! At least I can open it from there and then save it to Github.
well sometimes you forget somethings
OK, I put the correct software on and now all is good. Whew!

Speaking of getting started with electronics, I'm thinking of working through the Art of Electronics (+student lab guide)...figured I've been putzing around for too long, time to really hunker down. Anyone else worked through that book?
We donโt have target in canada๐๐ป
@hard hollow I'm sorry, I missed how you got that skull -- is it a 3D printed or a purchased item?
@waxen thistle no worries, it's a cheap candybowl we got from target ๐
we linked it in the guide
missed a start as i was watching mechabots update stream
@hard hollow thank you!
You could work with megabots to get that in their system
SEM++
I think next week Adam will be taking delivery of a Large Hadron Collider. ๐
always need more giant robots
@waxen thistle Although the new 3rd Ed. is probably a lot different from the 2nd Ed. we used in undergrad when that edition was current, that's what we used for our electronics course for physics majors.
notices his power flickering. Ah, Adam must be using his 14th SEM at the same time :)
The stuff expands to fill the space you have. No matter the stuff or the space.
@waxen thistle Power flickering here, too, but it's windy in the Puget Sound area tonight....
yup yup
Indeed!
@glossy glacier Got to keep that other scope in good shape. You'll probably be moving it to your shop next year.
"Once in a while you get what you've been wishing for for years..." You mean like the 2x adafruit deliveries today, containing an Oscilloscope and Benchtop Power Supply? ๐
careful with the wind @glossy glacier, just had a power drop out here
<wishes harder>
Yeah, the wind is kinda crazy. The lights were flickering the entire time... My local utility has everything below grade, but the Bonneville Power feeders that come up I5... That is a different story....
I wish all manufacturers were like Adafruit. I got some Wemos ESP32+OLED boards just to play with, and the lack of coherent documentation is annoying and inhibiting.
@glossy glacier you have any wind speed sensors?
It's nice when companies do things right....amazing how far something like a little bit of documentation goes.
We should do a Seattle-area meetup some time!
@scarlet otter definitely!
How is that written on sheet music?
@scarlet otter I agree!
@severe inlet excellent question
'night all
@waxen thistle Yes, a little guidance can go a long way.

Woop woop!

I just got a gust of 45 here. I am glad that I dont have the SEM plugged into the wall right now.
@waxen thistle Re: Art of Electronics... I havenโt worked through it, but it looks familiar. When I started out it was Radio Shackโs series of white books and Forrest M. Mims III. Then I spent 2 years training as a electronics technician.
good luck @glossy glacier
I started out with the ARRL amateur radio handbooks - strongly recommended if you are also a ham, or want to become one
If the winds get too strong, hold onto the new SEM. It'll be your anchor through windy weather.
hi I live in australia just stared getting into electronics and am loving the amazing community adafruit has. should i buy adafruit products through the offical website or the offical distrubitor core electronics ?
@eager sapphire I've been thinking of going the LadyAda route -- do all three exams at once.
Circuit Python is SUPERB for iterative code
I did the same thing, odd coincidence, taking all three at once.
@feral grove I'd suggest picking whichever is least expensive for you
