@empty halo The best follow-up is to have a project you want to do. That's more motivating and will lead you to find out what you don't know but need to know.

I feel like I would have put the LEDs in after the heat gun work..

waxen thistle
#

In a run of 10,000 boards, saving 10 seconds of time testing each of them results in over 27 hours of savings.

waxen thistle
#

27 hours @ minimum wage...nearly $300 savings. And I'm not making any assumptions on compensation, it's just a nice minimum number to use. Saving at LEAST $300 on 10k production run w/ 10sec reduction.

@waxen thistle That's some fast calculation!

I'd imagine with a company the small size of adafruit who hires intelligent, creative people -- it's usually not the money that's the biggest issue. It's effective use of the limited time we have.

Anyone know if Adafruit has ever offered internships?

open girder
#

@cunning vault sorta, we do not do free ones

we like to pay people and don't think free work is good for anyone

so

do cool projects, share them, apply ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

waxen thistle

@open girder ๐Ÿ‘

you can also find us on github and work with us that way

shell mason
rapid hornet
#

@haughty quiver that would be awesome!

shell mason
#

I played table hockey when i was young and one of them had small magnets in players and fabric between the sticks and players

haughty quiver
#

@shell mason that's cool! I remember when we'd visit my mom's family in Italy in the summers growing up I'd play Subbuteo with my cousins. Do you know that game? Flicking little soccer players, it's awesome.

vital bane
#

Subbuteo is very fun! Almost impossible to find it over here

#

I got a set from the UK but the players were just cardboard cutouts and not the cool mini figures

shell mason
#

@vital bane have you played magnetic table hockey?

vital bane
#

I don't think I have

shell mason
#

@haughty quiver not that one

haughty quiver
#

I bought some Subbuteo teams the last time I was in Italy!

vital bane
#

I have a great playing field but need to buy some teams

haughty quiver
#

@vital bane I think there's a deep community out there somewhere online for new teams.

#

Every decade or so it seems one of the toy makers in the US will briefly offer it

vital bane
#

Had some friends with sets back in the day. I wonder if they would play again..

#

I remember one guy had a throw-in player that would actually throw ball with the press of a lever

haughty quiver
#

that's so cool, I've seen that but never had one

vital bane
#

Think he also had a corner kicker

haughty quiver
#

I'd love to build a table for it... ; )

vital bane
#

with a score board!

haughty quiver
#

We set it up on a ping pong table sometimes and clamp the field down tight

#

OMG, yes, maybe the NeoSegments as a scale soreboard!

vital bane
#

My field has some plastic poles that hold up a score board and keep the corners pulled out tight.

haughty quiver
#

I actually still have the lego soccer set and lots of add ons, it's pretty fun too

#

that's a good idea, having corner stretching poles

#

OK, now I'm inspired to go set it back up and play

shell mason
#

my uncle made made who is also my brother godfather the game table Novuss

haughty quiver

unfortunately the teams that came with it really sucked and always fall over...

haughty quiver
#

shell mason
ocean musk
#

@haughty quiver might be able to get serial out of controller ends. My nes controller wires to retropie using the wires

vital bane
#

looks like I can get teams for about $25 on amazon..

haughty quiver
#

that looks fun @shell mason

vital bane
#

not sure if $50 is worth it..

haughty quiver
#

@ocean musk that's cool, did you publish any info on that?

#

@vital bane are you in Canada?

vital bane

I'll come visit JP and we can play after I escape your escape room ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

haughty quiver

vital bane
#

yes in canada.

shell mason
#

@haughty quiver now think adding electronics to that table game

haughty quiver
#

maybe a team can be 3D printed in ABS and the bases smoothed with acetone...

#

That sounds cool @shell mason

vital bane
#

yeah 3d printed could probably work.

shell mason
#

@haughty quiver as you said on the stream you mentioned Fortuna game like pingball but have nails in it and wait ball coming down

vital bane
ocean musk
#

Was going to use a arcade bonnet but this seems easier. The turbo buttons might work this way then

shell mason
#

Novuss/Koruuna there is way to make it more mystery box kinda too

vital bane
#

lol "man my shirt is blue!" yes I am a couple hours behind in my watching..

shell mason
#

that Subbuteo with 3D printed and novuss/koruuna so nice games with electronics would be cool

lilac eagle
#

if I can timewarp a bit: 1) I really appreciate john park clarifying "you guys" and gender and so on. especially the shout out to nonbinary folx.

and also: the best part about circuit python might be that I can use vim to edit it!

lament flume

lament flume
#

Vim is my, eugh it would be more effort to move it to somewhere where I could edit it like a sane person editor

lilac eagle
#

it probably took me six months of being much slower, but I kept with it because I wanted to use vim. and then a few years of it being roughly comparable

#

but now I'm significantly faster with it

lament flume
#

I could see how you could get good with it but I just don't think it's for me

lilac eagle
#

once I learned about c. ciw for instance changes the inner word, so "why h|ello there" deletes "hello" and puts you into insert mode. ci" does the same for the double quoted string you're in, etc

lament flume
#

Hahaha

#

Esc q!

#

Or something like that is my getta out of jail free card

lilac eagle
#

or as I did the first time, "panic and close putty, then get 'hey you have a file to restore' emails for six months"

lament flume
#

๐Ÿ˜‚

#

That image ridiculously fits this conversation perfectly

lilac eagle
#

I also use autohotkey to map capslock to esc if I'm in putty, gvim, etc, so it's really fun to use vim on someone else's laptop because I just start typing in caps. print $a;:WJJJ

How do you fit a phone in your mouth?

ocean musk

i was working on just running the wire from foot pedal to trigger camera shutter

wanted to set a dual trigger for focus and shutter. but i think just shutter would be better. since when doing overhead you typically manually focus

haughty quiver
