π
Does sound like laying the groundwork for possible automating at least an initial driver. Sounds like that would save you time you can spend on other things instead.
I've only had to write a few drivers. If I had to write hundreds, yeah I'd probably look into LLM's to automate it too.

Hello! π
πΈπͺ π
hihi
HELLO
Hi all. Yet another beautiful day in the workshop
Good afternoon.
π
Very VT-100 terminalesque!
Nice trick!
Ooo, very cool! π Love learning new console tricks
Does the REPL font have the VT-100/ANSI line drawing (forms) characters, too?
That's a handy little trick. I'm always printing out huge lists of output, then scrolling up.
Do you have a cheat sheet for all the escape codes?
i used your old exemple of mouse anti acelleration exemple for rp2040 but the scroll up and down not working.
The wikipedia page for ANSI Escape sequences is pretty good https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANSI_escape_code
ANSI escape sequences are a standard for in-band signaling to control cursor location, color, font styling, and other options on video text terminals and terminal emulators. Certain sequences of bytes, most starting with an ASCII escape character and a bracket character, are embedded into text. The terminal interprets these sequences as command...

if you have time at the end of show it would be great to check it.
It sounds like you're talking about the Adafruit_TinyUSB_Arduino example "hid_remapper"? I think that's what JP was demoing. https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_TinyUSB_Arduino/blob/master/examples/DualRole/HID/hid_remapper/hid_remapper.ino
It's part of that library and I think JP was just demoing it. You may want to ask in #help-with-arduino or open in issue on that github repo
its been one month i did both but no one gave me the solution to fix scroll up and down.
It's not a simple solution. It would require some real work

sorry again about your ears everyone!
Thanks JP
Iβve been meaning to do this
They make silicone dust covers for usb ports, maybe there's something similar for 3.5mm jacks? Or, a piece of gaffer tape (though that's less gadget-y π€ )
Pico-8 Wall !!! (update: I am not LIVE, that was 3/3/2025 by John Park)
Ok, it was 2H ago? on 3/13/26 but the title of the video say 3/3/2025... I am late, but not 10 days late.
Hi from WA
(Oooo, nearly 600 boards! Cool π )
π
Could it be the device startup time? maybe. Or something reading them happens in a background task that hasn't ran (and sleep will trigger it)
I was just thinking time for allowing the device to complete 'polling' and one 'crowds out' the signal from the other
nice can you print raw mouse also
usb enumeration is pretty slow
Had this version growing up - saw the box art when you pulled up the image search and the memories (no pun intended) came rushing back
This is traditionally a turn game. Do you want to make it real-time given 2 mice?
Oh wow, I am 95% sure that box is at my mom's house somewhere
I can't recall, was there a circuitpython game library? to handle some of the plumbing like game engines do?
N-player memory game, using n input devices... But sure, that can be a stretch.
Just thinking of the potential audience for the FruitJam and the inspiration being the C64 and similar, one of the lessons it took me a while to learn is how to structure code to make a game. So a library even as a teaching device, or a template... just a random thought
I spent some time thinking about the "on first boot" experience
a tutorial or editor
but I'm down the font rabbit hole
if left click and mouse on card ?
I still remember a magazine article for a text adventure that taught me the basics of setup, game loop, game state and basic data structures.
hard reset. we leak some memory still
USBError happens because we can't close endpoints yet
Green for the green mouse, pink for the pink?
Has no one made software that can make simple games yet? Like import your own sprites and music and build it
It would be multi million dollar software to import your friends or family etc and make a quick game like for a wedding
Nah, the white looks good
Any ai game generators? This just seems soo convoluted in 2025
I thought you meant an outline to show which player/mouse cursor had selected which card
True, I guess I was caught up imagining the real-time version π
Back to the outline suggestion, then? Leave behind the outline color of the successful player?
wait for what?
Start a countdown from second mouse click/card flip?
Nah
You know you want to see the match
But the player who successfully matches traditionally takes another turn
And continues taking turns so long as matches are made
'Let's play CircuitPython memory! I'll play green!' haha
Heads green wins, tails pink loses
I like the consistency of UX you've mapped out
Yeah, I think you have all the gameplay logic written
i guess its perfect now
Time for me to grab some dinner. As always, thank you for the stream and the education, Tim! π
thanks tim!

πΈπͺ π
Good morning β
I m putting up some cable channels in the office so I can connect all my displaying devices on the shelf. π
nice. I'm also working on shelf stuff.
Adding 8ft vertical 2x4's to the back of my workbench to add plywood for shelving/cabinets.
I can't screw into the wall because it's made of wood veneer and plastic. Have to create my own kind of.
Neat. I am renovating some built in wardrobes in the lab. Found that IKEA shelves fit perfectly inside. They are both sturdy and cheap.
3D printed some brackets to distribute the weight as the walls are just thin masonite.
Sounds like a similar situation. I also got a large standing wardrobe-esque metal cabinet but don't even have the room to set that up yet.
This was my little electronics corner but I only have 1 single desktop as storage.
My new lab is a bit larger than the old one so I even had place to mount the component boxes on the wall. Much easier access!
The problem started growing because the desktop was all I had for storage. Started getting boxed in and looking like an episode of hoarders. There's a 12 panel matrix buried in the mess.
Can see only have wood paneling and cannot mount anything to it. They used 1x6 as wall studs, it's just a facade.
Seems a bit strange that websockets receives text, what do the devtools say is being sent?
Ha. You should have seen mine. It was very crowded as I had to use it for all storage as well. Shelfes floor to ceiling on all walls!
Large electronics desk plus 2 3D printers and a small desktop CNC.
The price of lumber has come way down. It's very affordable to build up your own desk now.
I've been at this for weeks. Why I haven't been active here much. All my electronics stuff is sitting in boxes.
It's a 4 2x10 by 12 feet desk. Originally designed it for automotive repair work but I'm too old and fat for that anymore. It's a tank of a workbench. Now I'm just into electronics so it's overkill in terms of stability.
I moved in 6 months ago. Still haven't hooked up everything. First things was one of the 3D printers, second was the soldering station. π
2x10x12 are the best bang for the buck for a really long work bench without having to make cuts. Just screw on some legs and a cross brace and you're done.
I believe something like that would avoid calling .toString(), then you should receive bytes in python:
const bytes = new Uint8Array([33, 45, 255]);
ws.send(bytes);
Besides being able to screw on storage cabinets I want to be able to mount my 12 matrix panel project to the wall. Maybe with Fruit Jam be able to play some retro games on it. Unsure if 12 matrix panels will be compatible with Fruit Jam in terms of a display size?
The 200 should not be sent, it is an argument of debounce
I have the HDMI capture dongle, the same one from the Adafruit store.
I do have an unused Pi 5 and sounds like Jepler has made some progress with the way it refreshes.
On Chome it does pick very fast if you slide pick a color
and it was sending a message to websocket every time
Yes but I have 12 panels so the faster refresh rates will likely show more of an impact. Though I've never used matrix panels on a Pi. Last time I used a Pi was Pi3 for PiHole.
Extra bit is a space maybe?
oh that's cool.
what's an up button? like an up arrow?
Nice π
Pretty cool.
nicely done. i see what you were trying to do now.
Well, you don't really need debounce for a web page right? π
Debounce is specifically for the color picker, as on Chrome it sends "change" event on every pixel you slide inside picker
this is for customizing led matrices?
What, Chrome has a built in color picker?
For input[type="color"]
Oh, did not know that.
i used it to change color of an LED candle. don't think i have a guide on that. but yeah i did have to hardcode the colors into code.py
Thanks!
Will you be continuing it next week?
great episode, thank you.
Thanks for the stream!
nice LED board too. @inner spade π
I'm not sure what I'll work on next week yet.
These LED boards are from OakDevTech, Skerr here on discord I believe.
see, i get the tree naming conventions both of them have mixed up sometimes. π
can't blame me for the mix up because i associate bluefruit more with cgrover because he has some great nrf52840 boards too.
it is awesome to have many great pcb developers here.
Oaks not Cedars, though. π π²
Yup, thatβs me π

Hi JP. Hope your workshop goes better today.
Today on JP's Workshop: "Test Patterns" - how to tell if you've fried a board? π
hi
FRΓTJΓ M
Sounds like a Scandinavian metal band
Really hard to design a board that's resilient to off-by-one errors on a breadboard. I've killed a few boards that way
The Dedication of JP: The Show Must Go On!
So your board did get fried. So sorry for that
Good lesson for us all
I fried an itsy bitsy the exact same way once π
I don't think it's repairable
Ah no magic smoke

Circuit board dead-man switch? π€£
Love it. Time to make some terminal games
REPong
What IDE are u using
This does depend on what font your terminal is using
oh Zed has a terminal plugin? neat
yep it's in there by default. fun
I normally have regular terminal windows open but this is nice too
hmm, looks like it does run its own Python, not the Python set by your shell
or something I dunno. so many Pythons on my computer
I noticed circup downloads the bundle regardless if the library exists
Did you see recently SNES consoles are found to run faster over time?
of course JP gets a game console and finds a way to get test patterns out of it
that's a neat little monitor, this one I think? https://www.adafruit.com/product/1667

Hi Tim from rainy WA. What IDE do you use?
π
π
(He uses PyCharm)
The link for this week's deep dive is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wb0ce3lHXo I had trouble setting it up again so there is a broken YT page that won't have the stream on it.
I'll remove it later.
too quiet now π at least for me
(Got your back, Tim π Happy to help)
The YT Live does not work, link ab ove works
Convert mp4 to gif, play gif? π
Nah, too easy
Dang, that looks good already!
Very cool! Like the character (apple?) - very Mario-esque
All I can see on YT is your screen right now, nothing else
Yes, wasn't sure if that was intentional. The REPL/animation, yeah
Am I understanding correctly that the 'overshoot' produces the visual bounce?
(Ah, asked and answered π )
All this on its own, is much more interesting as a tutorial and just in general, then playing a GIF. I think a lot of newer coders would love to learn this technique
Is it not possible to "squash" (scale veritically) the sprites without needing a sprite sheet for that animation?
What is the screen resolution?
If you have the time (or ping me if you have a question) I think knowing if the GIF runs / how fast would be interesting. I had some large ones running but Jeff had a hint to send it direct to the display (bypassing parts of displayio)
TileGrid is slow π¦ It is on my wish list to have sped up
(Alright, was using different terms, but referred to the same action. Reminds me of what they call (over)scroll bounce)
The hard part (and has been looked at) is CP internally renders the frame, then sends it to the display. Using DMA it could be calculating the next frame while frame-1 draws.
If I recall
Grey-mlins
I had to do a bunch of palette
stuff recently and I really liked Aseprite for it
(And it keeps you off of the Adobe subscription treadmill π€ )
Yeah I think it's been in some bundles
(Those were the days - when you could buy and own software)
(I mean, Adobe is an industry standard for a good reason, but I won't support their 'rental software' business model)
Biggest problem with Adobe is the really anti-consumer business practices tbh
A big difference is the availability of a near-full-featured community version of PyCharm, etc. I haven't looked at the pricing in a little while, but IIRC JetBrains had comparatively more for hobbyist-friendly offerings
It certainly more closely resembles jam when red... π
Goals for future refactoring, perhaps
Thank you much for the stream, Tim! Have a nice weekend
(Unfortunately work on Saturdays π Miss the Sunday streams)
good nite

no, the microSD is not understood by the mac OS

one very nice change is the extra space between HDMI port and USB-C port. Some bigger cables were getting in the way

hi Scott!
does it not show up there on YT main page @timid plover ?
π
hihi
Hi Scott!
oink!
I feel you so much, I've had to cancel trips like that before. Plus been fighting stomach stuff all winter I feel.
What are the screen dimensions you're using?
Ok im going to discord im getting dono walled
Im bout to dump my messages from twitter lmfao:
- You should Check out RooCode ITS INSANELY GOOD FOR AN EXTENSION
- (You can use the free LLM's from OpenRouter with it)
- Windsurf is good but the limits is hard to use daily
I tried using the keyboard emoji in a label β¨οΈ but it does not render. I only have the latest release of bitmap font though, I don't know if your changes already fixed that maybe?
the one checked in to the repo unifont-16.0.02-ascii-emoji.bin
I hit the Windsurf limits so fast on the Pro plan like 2-3 weeks max I main cursor instead for daily usage now UI/UX I use Windsurf
so what's the difference between the "printed" emojis and the ones in the status bar ?
Why not just click Control + Shift + V and click emoji button then type in the emoji you want
Ohh you're on mac?
OOOO
This reminds me of using the conversion of the key codes in JS for on click events...
It was a nightmare
Want to be amazed?
Use Gemini 2.5 Pro
https://aistudio.google.com/prompts/new_chat (Just use the AI studio since its free rate limit of 50/day 2/min req but its SOOO good)
Claude Code is soooo expensive
You would be amazed if you tried RooCode with the free OpenRouter API with 2.5 Pro its better than 3.7 in most uses
(I know most older coders are like I been doig it this way why change now)
But so did the Brick n mortar mom n pop shops before Amazon put them out of business
RooCode is SOOOO fast
πΈπͺ π
(Not affiliated with any of these companies either just a solo tech enthusiast and dev since 7)
You're being a engineer and supervisor
so that code review / accept is integrated with cascade ? ( I thought you were accepting pull requests or something )
You know the logic, you know how it works, the syntax is the hard part after.
Like you maybe not as involved on that side but I also have many pi's and stuff also I use for AI machine vision projects but had to upgrade because it wasn't fast enough on CPU
does cascade "learn" when you reject a diff - ( or is it seeing your whole edit buffer )
It just takes into context which Claude has a 200k context length and they also "Index your codebase" but it don't always help it often repeats logic across larger projects
Can I hook up a 3070 to your pi?
Lmfaoo
Thats all I need
Yee noooo
DONT
I have a 4090 you need like min A100 to get decent results and speed comparable
For machine vision though running on CPU is horrible I need dedicated GPU
(Embedded systems that is)
desktop ?
o7 Credits
Thats the same thing RooCode does
RooCode is like Windsurf on steroids I feel
Best part is RooCode is JUST a extension
So you can use it on normal VSCode
what do you bump into that troubles you with vscode ?
Ehh its kinda just a bit more polished thats why I didn't originally like Cursor
It felt foreign
so it has read access to all the files on your file system ?
Yee
Cursor you can even add your own sources of docs to reference and download the docs to learn the newest and latest versions
Just for that tho
Now imagine I code for 55hrs a week
Since 3.5 first dropped been constantly learning and daily more and more better models are being released
3.5 GPT*
3.7 is def top 2-3 at minimum
(Thinking models seem to cause issues for me with coding it often just starts doing what it wants)
Reasoning/Thinking is great for complex code or planning out your structure
Simple changes though it will just start doing random stuff I didn't even think of...
Wanna try roo? π
Lmfao
how much debugging support do the AI tools provide
INSANE amounts...
Bro Roo will iterate over all lint errors until its done
I made a fully automated filling machine using python
With remote SSH on a DellOptiplex and Raspberry Pi 4
Filling
idk if thats allowed or cared
but thats what I built
(Note its ALL machine vision alignment with a camera mounted to the head)
Pin perfect alignment
Yee nah this was a 2 year project 56,000$ machine... Lmao
Not all LLM lots of planning and headaches
Thats my next major refactor I need to do next is convert all my Py to C was looking into learning Rust or Go though also... But not sure C seems to be the best option
(Cursor also has that) but yeah they did a huge overhaul on their "Tab Completion" for the AI haters old school
Yee if its like a repeptitive change or simple edit its a waste of time to wait for the LLM to think
Older models it used to be constant just generate and fix the issues it caused I mainly use it for rough large refactors
(Also Ill try to find a video but like all AI stuff they have new releases basically daily so everything is a week old isn't relevant or just clickbait hype)
Is the Repo open source? If anything id send a screenshot to claude and a code snippet you changed and ask
Just to get a bit of insight like asking someone else for their opinion who knows all
desktop ?
To troubleshoot this:
Verify your font is properly converted for CircuitPython (using tools like font_to_py.py)
Check your display initialization parameters (bit depth, color mode)
Try displaying basic text first before attempting emojis
Review your code for proper font loading and character encoding
Could you share the specific code you're using to load and display the emojis? That would help me provide more targeted assistance.```
Just from the screenshot anyways
I can see you're encountering a display issue with your CircuitPython project. What you're seeing is a common problem when working with bitmap fonts or emojis in CircuitPython. The pattern of repeating characters suggests there's likely an encoding or font loading issue.
I provided VERY little context screenshot and "Circuit py emoji font issue"
you have 4 hour old code at https://github.com/tannewt/circuitpython/commits/lvfontio/
I thought @austere python might throw it at Roo ?
Yee
isn't there a way to do that with openocd ( bootloader mode ? )
I am having issues cloning it for some reason
( I made that mistake once (submodules π - then I found the directions π
Got it now lemme see if I can wizard this
I just threw it at Roo letting it cook thru the codebase rn with Gemini 2.5 and its 1mill context window
We fixed her?
Also this is why I LOVE roo...
I need your answer to that
It offers 4 suggestions
What version is your CircuitPython 9.0?
gray scale - as in anti aliasing ?
Thats how I started I was scared of the automation
Now I know how to drive it
I wish I had more background knowledge on this and pi not in use to test with as mine is currently running Klipper lmfao
Because its asking questions I cant answer
Or test
Bottom right click settings and enable Fast auto complete
Memories for me havent provided much value they often "Remember" project specifics then try to apply them to a different irrelevant file
or project fully
(The 6000 chars counts towards the context length)
can it read your build instructions in the documentation ?
( it didn't even suggest adding a board - just "make -j.."
deep wind surf
Deep Surf V3
Deep dive V3
Thats what that directory is
since we are getting near the end - I was going to ask what the new hdmi capture tool was
It just gives basic instructions to follow best practices and such
@rapid hornet https://x.com/DynamicWebPaige/status/1905661054929211438
github have models marketplace for github copilot https://github.com/marketplace?type=models
thank you Scott
Use roocode with Windsurf = MAX
AI just made 1month refactors become a 2 days refactor is the issue lmfao
o7
I am getting started for this mornings stream, working on the Set card game in CircuitPython. You can follow along on twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch and YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8WijLU3Jnw
Good morning. βοΈ
Future Tim has sent a message. Read in private π
Fruit jam has been βcoming soonβ for like 2 months. Iβve been waiting to get one. However I donβt have a workbench or pc setup yet so wouldnβt matter anyway. Iβm still at least a week from staining the desktop. π£
If itβs in the store then soon would be less than a month, otherwise hold off on putting it in the store because it gets shuffled down the list of βnew productsβ and I end up forgetting about it. If I canβt put it in my cart I end up forgetting to get one.
Thatβs just me though. I always check out new products first.
Yeah seems like they want some games available before it ships. Iβm interested in making a game too like pong or something.
Will the ugame games work with it? I forget the game framework name.
Something simple to display on my 12 matrix array which Iβm framing and hanging very soon.
A class? If youβre adding classes to code.py then time to think about writing a library.
6 seconds is oddly specific
The Adafruit shop has a βlistβ feature that I use β for that reason. When a new product comes out that Iβm certain Iβll need (read: most if not all), it goes into the list. Then when the budget allows, click on load list into cart. Almost too easy.
Itβs really more of a dictionary.
π
You canβt put βcoming soonβ items in a cart. Thatβs why lists are better for them.
Iβm out of here for today. Workbench wonβt build itself. Have a great weekend!
Fun to watch the progress. Thanks for the stream!

So right out the box it will work?

@open girder QUESTION
The SNES like controller , can you use it with the RP2040 USB host ?
Question:
With everything going on, how difficult or good or bad of an idea do u think it would be to start a business that requires manufacturing a product that I'd need to manufacture custom circuit boards for that product? & is there any concerns you might suggest the new business to watch out for, and try & prevent or plan for?
Questions about what we want to see in an rp2350
How about one with a screen and an ANO Rotary Navigation Encoder kinda like a pyportal
rp2350 feather with built in I2S ADC/DAC (TLV320AIC3204?) with 3.5mm in & out!
maybe a question for next time: any chance of the return of the adabox before tariffs ?
Has one other questionβ- with the Sparkle motion it has two pins level shifted up to 5v (output)
Can you make a generic ESP32 board with a few pins that can tolerate 5v ? I know there are voltage dividers
Thanks for taking time for us.
Thanks @open girder and good night. π
