Hey everyone! Hi Liz!

👋
Woohoo!
95 min wait time for the hulk roller coaster?!
you gotta wait for him to get mad before they can run the ride
lol
Sweet! Didn't realise theme parks shared an API for ride times. thats really cool
Qualia is sort of the MacroByte to the BBC MicroBit
What IDE do you recommend for CircuitPython?
I like Mu but there are quite a few newer options these days including the web serial editor
Prefer? Mu or VSCode
woohoo, abusing StemmaQT/Qwiic for non-I2C purposes!
been there!
@hard hollow I had to step away: did you design the cases that are in the shop? they're great
That's awesome. One of the few downsides of the QT Py is no mounting holes
i wanted it in the shop >:)

Thanks for the show guys!
Thanks fellas
thanks Noe & Pedro!
thanks folks!
thanks so much for haning out folks - happy circuitpython day!
dan & scott will be streaming next- if folks have questions for them about the circuitpython core please add them here!
Dan and Scott are both core developers for CircuitPython. Join them as they chat about their experiences working on the core, including highlights from recen...
Yay!
It's my favorite Dan & Scott!

glad to hear both of your backgrounds with Adafruit!
Here is a question to get things started, is it possible/will you be getting CircuitPython to run on the new RP2350 RISCV cores and not just the M33?
Question: What is the milestone for 10.0? What will be added? What will be dropped?
Happy CircuitPython Day!
Question for each of you: what's the coolest feature (user-facing or behind the scenes) that's happened to CircuitPython?
It is odd that they put in 2 cores. Maybe hedging their bets against ARM in the future
Hi from Costa Rica
I would love OTA to remain (I've been using esphome for stuff that I need OTA), but I also understand the space limitation...
Has there been any previous desire or attempt to get the LIB folder to overload frozen modules, it causes a bit of friction currently as each guide expects lib to work
oh, "...in the last year" but yeah in general too
HID is really cool
I gotta say my favorite feature is how easy it is to play high-quality audio in CircuitPython 🙌
Q: Scott mentioned workflow. Are there any new workflow changes coming with 10.0 that you're looking forward to?
like riscv-v have now some micropython support for example too
How are AI tools working with the core CP codebase? Has the workflow become more productive?
When facing a non-adafruit hardware, is there a way to distinguish:
- adafruit provided port (for non adafruit hardware)
- community provided port (an individual doing the job)
- vendor provided port
How can we push vendor to do a PR for their hardware, like all the new RP2350 hardware?
Can use dev containers via GitHub, just start a codespace pointed at Circuitpython repository, it opens a code space and starts installing all requirements, with instructions in the terminal
And native code modules are a lot of effort for a very small payoff (the MPY ones not building it into the core)
Frozen modules were something I learned about very late. I'm not sure it's talked about too much in learn guides.
like synths with circuit python
Question: Are you maybe planning on adding support for translations for libraries? If yes, how would that work? Would the translation be part of uf2 file?

Hi,
Do you know if circuit Python is being used in production in any consumer products ?
How does the licensing work ?
Thanks
Question: Among all CircuitPython supported boards (not only Adafruit developed), what is your favorite and why?
Question: What is the status of the Raspberry Pi bare metal version? Did it ever get out of "alpha" and are there any plans to support RPi 5?
yay fellow Emacs greybeard!
Fellow Sublime Text user!
GitHub copilot functions like dark magic. It is frightening how well it works.
"Won't that be grand? Computers and the programs will start thinking and the people will stop."
Love the idea of having a Docker container to build CircuitPython. Should be possible to pull down source code from GitHub so the build environment could be the same for different versions. Would love to contribute, and I know C++, but setting up a build environment is a bit intimidating.
It's possible to have the build run inside of github actions. Check out the info here: https://github.com/adafruit/circuitpython/pull/7594 It's different from docker locally, but it gives you similar ability to focus on your changes more than the build process.
Frozen is very useful, it's on all boards with built in displays, but it would be lovely if sys.path[0] was lib
CircuitPython is used in the Winterbloom modular synth module Big Honking Button
and sol!
MacroPad might be my favorite, too. 🙂
Thanks, I've bookmarked that and will investigate!
Can the RP2350 do full HDMI with additional PSRAM?
You also get Circuitpython-stubs installable from pip, gets rid of the squiggles errors (your editor then knows Circuitpython). You can also set the board to get pin names correct
I think this is one of the biggest hurdles new users don't understand about CircuitPython: you don't need an IDE, you can use any code editor, even notepad.exe in a pinch. But having a good answer to "What's the CircuitPython IDE?" would really help them
...and the serial monitor being so critical, along with an editor
How about the RP2350 supporting the TTL RGB-666 displays?
Yeah, it would be very nice to have text editor + serial terminal + circup into one app, which would be an "IDE" to most folk
Maybe the larger 80 pin versions of the rp2350. Curious what Scott or Ladyada thinks
So overclocking FTW?
640x480 on a microcontroller is nuts
One of the best features of CircuitPython is the simple workflow and ease of prototyping. Had just a few hours before last night’s band rehearsal to throw together a stereo sound effects device. Easy peasy.
testing/prototyping in the REPL is the best thing ever compared to compile/deploy/test
what tools are you using to "watch" usb traffic ?
the deep divers unite
What, TWO deep dives!!!!!!!
Thanks guys, that was fun! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Dan and Scott! Awesome work on CircuitPython!
Thanks Dan & Scott!
Thank you both
Thanks!

I go to my beagle generally
Thanks Dan and Scott for the great chat!
we use wireshark, and also Beagles, and Thach, the TinyUSB developer uses a Teradyne (?maybe) hw watcher. The software that comes with the hardware devices is the make or break for the utlities of those.
☕️ thank you great q&a
next will be Guy Dupont! https://youtube.com/live/cJ2dCxfGfyk
In honor of CircuitPython Day, Guy Dupont joins us for a live chat discussing some of his favorite CircuitPython projects.Linktree: https://linktr.ee/guy_dup...
@smoky island you should make your stream in youtube and link my stream to yours
There have been some open-source projects to help with this, but they also depend on good software, and the combinations haven't quite gotten off the ground
how's it going on making the feather rp2040 with USB host have the USB host fully functional?
As far as I know, it is working
@steep mica How many times did you walk the dog?
those are a critical four times though I'm sure
Is the next version to allow the dog to press the button!? 🙂
My favorite @steep mica project is his guitar pedal for mouse & keyboard
the mcdonalds prizes?
Super cool!
Halsey
It was "autotune" kazoo I think for me. (I wasn't quite so sure about the recent tongue thing mind...)
ahahah "... this was an old fish, the springs don't work as well as they used to"
Capacitors, and if so, more capacitors. That's all I know
Ferrite beads/clips may help too
and the biggest capacitor, a separate battery for the motor
Is that a lunchbox project I see 👀
Guy's videos are amazing too: https://www.youtube.com/@GuyDupont/videos

husb238 is one of my favorite breakouts
Hot pluggin 15v
😯
Not all voltages are supported by all chargers.
I believe some chargers offer 18V, but aside from that I think you have all the standard voltages.
husb238 supports 5, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 20V. you can request any of those but the output depends on your adapter
Ask for 1.21 Gigavolts!
As far as I know, it's a negotiation between the charger and the power dummy; the charger advertises what's available and the dummy requests what you've programmed
Apart from usb PD, you get PPS which allows minute adjustment of voltage in 0.1v increments
PPS = Programmable Power Supply
https://www.belkin.com/support-article/?articleNum=318878
Hence the e-mark on this cable - which sets the advertised power https://www.adafruit.com/product/5968
It's pinned in #general-chat

Question for @haughty quiver: you planning to put that cool power supply in a case?
Hmmmm. Wonder if I can turn that into the basis of a DIY benchtop supply...
Probably can stack the INA219 and the HUSB238 for additional space-saving...
what is your favorite size of swirly grid? what would you change about it?
JP do you have a favourite project (yours or others) from this year?
Also wondering if you're hoping for any specific added features or technology for CircuitPython in the next 12 months?
I bet the qtpy case would work, too @haughty quiver
https://www.adafruit.com/product/6002
Snap on cases for the swirly board family would be nice.
Are there any proto-boards that are made for swirly grid? Does the hole pitch in the perma-proto match?
A power rail maybe?
Plug and Make Kit is the easiest way to get started with Arduino. It includes everything you need for your very first seven projects – as well as many more that our community shares and you can invent yourself! Start from the one that sparks your interest, and keep exploring to define your own tech journey: Weather Re
One swirly request was to make the holes big enough to put a stemma qt connector through
AND THE LEGO HEADS
Love the form factor that allows a mounted board plus breadboard side-by-side
Are there any innovative / emergent input components (i.e. tactical switches, 5-way tactical switch, optical sensors, etc.) that you're excited about?
Thanks JP, wonderfully complete answer!
Maybe the 10x5 with the center 6 'squares' in the middle row removed for cable routing?
More likely obscure gaming input from the 80s'
The swirly grid usually allows 2-3 screws even on boards that don't fit. Then I use spacers just attached to the board in the remaining holes for support
Yes, endless pots! would love to try those out
The infinite pots are 2 pots inside doing some sine/cosine thing (need to look that up)
Thanks JP
I want to do lego collab projects with JP 🙂
I want to see it!
Never heard of an endless potentiometer looking it up—thank you!
ALL THE LEGO
Thanks JP
Thanks JP! Interesting projects in the workshop.
thanks JP!
Thanks JP!
thank you all too!
Thanks JP!
I have a few notes here: https://gist.github.com/todbot/cd964282dd3c2599a629f5ecf5d1ca98 but I've not played with one yet IRL
more googling on the endless pots - stack exchange has this:
If you turn it, you get two sawtooth signals that are 180° out of phase, so when one output is in its “dead zone”, you can use the other one instead to determine the position.
Sounds about right

I'm 'subscribed' to the rp2350 metro patiently 🙂
indeed - my pimoroni board has "shipped"....
Fingers crossed for the B chip Grand Central 🤞🤞
Can we get an RP2350 PyGamer...?
Saw the p4 devkit dropped, but came with a warning (probably not quite fit for final purpose in all ways)
He comes back eventually 😁 full circle usually
``80 pins should
be enough for anybody.'' - Bill Gates
I'd be happy with a B chip Metro, too. Gimme all the boards
can the build process catch the missing functions ?
I'm almost finished with an esp32-s3 handheld
Hi Scott. I'm a bit late becasue I was doing some tech work for a cool art project I'm working on with painter.
I love tangents
Yep I used the standard Pico2 build of CircuitPython on a SparkFun Pro Micro 2350 and Tiny 2350 without any issue
hacker
you wouldn't download CircuitPython
lol
arcade circuitpython handheld
Great if Pimoroni boards are supported, because this was the closer/faster I could get (even if Brexit import tax hit me again).
the fact the esp32-S3 can come in 32mb flash version (8mb psram?) is just crazy, probably unnecessary for most (and more expensive than other S3 models), but still a useful thing for some
oh hey @rapid hornet the status LED on the Tiny 2350 is a RGB LED on GPIOs 18,19,20 and it's active low
Got board.BUTTON? Having same named functional pins (like button or neopixel) working across boards makes code so tranferable.
I love CircuitPython
oh USER_SW i see it. I guess I'm too used to ESP with BOOT0 button on them all
They had batch1, think they get more chips next week, but maybe as late as september
yeah Pimoroni ran out. it's a rp2350 B
🐝
no, i2c and debug on top, then extra large connector underneath
Yep works! But no board.SCL and board.SDA. So I can't play my tunes out the StemmaQT port 😀 Also, I don't see board.I2C() or board.STEMMA_I2C()
it's a display connector
BOOT button is GP45
Yay for keeping the buttons away from the pins, so hard to use if they're by the edge when I've stuck stacking header pins on the board
pico plus 2

Also @rapid hornet thanks for making all the GPIOs available in microcontroller.pin. It used to not be the case

youtube is smooth for me
pretty sure the first instance of the game was on the Atari in 1976 and was called Breakout (written by the Woz)
(and the video/audio is smooth on Twitch)
78 was super breakout
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Breakout
would a game like this benefit from monotonic_ns vs monotonic
https://github.com/FoamyGuy/CircuitPython_Rainbow_Breakout
Tim's code is always so nicely organized. If you're looking for code to crib from, check his repos. Thanks Tim for putting all this code out there!
no no, you don't remove the squares inside the parens, you square the thing you compare it to
you need the squares for euclidean distance
so instead of sqrt(x*x + y*y) < d you do (x*x + y*y) < d*d
Inspired by your last stream I set out to start exploting Delaunay triangulation. So far just random points and triangles...
oooo fancy new .intersects()
Ah maths, so many complex ideas, but very elegant once the penny drops
anchor point also the rotation point?
speed looks good!
why use .anchor_point & .anchor_positiontuples instead of setting an .x & .y?
ah it's kind of resolution-indepedence
oh! yes you need to know size of text box
right right
love the Baltics great folk music
And simple text justification.
G A M E O V E R
Is there a way to map your own buttons with a generic dev board?
Pretty sure Unity does something like the constructor and also an init function, like two parts at startup
better for isolation + testing to not affect anything with constructor
Other way I've seen done is a reset type function that can be called upon start or lives lost or similar
Add a hard mode where the bricks try to slightly move out of the way
Spaceship going across the top
Stream probably cut out. I saw OBS say that some frames dropped. Should be back within a moment.
weird for me
back now (youtube) - but i refreshed
yup, looking better
👍
I’ve found it helpful to place a text label on-screen to show the current game state. I also stopped using numerical values for state definitions and use a string containing the state description instead. Helps when troubleshooting, which is something I do a lot of.
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks @smoky island

Hey Tim 👋 What's today? Paused/Gameover label and possible Multi-ball?
Oh yes! I was wondering about the paddle eventually firing the ball off at more of an angle if on the last or first 25% of the paddle
Hi foamyguy and all cool people, stopping into the stream to say hi and Happy CircuitPython Day.
Perhaps the first ball movement should be towards the paddle rather than the bricks.
Maybe show the dotted lines for tragectory, and the ball start position is random but fixed, so the paddle only controls start angle
… and set the bell to a random trajectory on startup.
on change of angle at start you avoid 0, i.e. can adjust by +- 1 degree but it skips 0
Thanks Tim, super cool project and stream
Thanks! Fun!

My only eSun spool must have been a monday morning startup spool. Looks like an enebriated chap did it with a hand crank.
Prints okay if you get it to stick to the bed.
Thanks @rocky reef & @hard hollow . See you all tonight.
Thanks all!
Thanks for taking time for us.
Thanks for the show guys! Have a good day!
thanks for haning out folks!
thanks folks cya tonight!
Thanks!
sorry, but that code doesn't seem to be working
Sometimes the code only works during the livestream. If it's not working then the discount code has expired. There will be another discount code tonight during ask an engineer (if they're doing AAE tonight).
In the live video they posted the code as "prototype", no s at the end
it helps to spell it correctly 😉
and it says 10% not 16%. i think the 16% was from Friday's Circuit Python Day. a special event that only happens once a year. usually discount codes are 10%.

Good evening everyone.
Hey Y'll
good evening
Evening everyone!
good evening ☕
Hey All! New Graphics looks good
hey it's Jayy!
I love the way it bonks its hands together. Cute.
so it's a cat? sometimes listens to you 🙂
My robots take over my time in making robots, that's about it
Hello!
I'm waiting for Optimus!
or.... 5 independent cat robots that form together to make 1 giant cat robot.
aww I had such high hopes for netbooks
I think I have one, somewhere.
@open girder You are now close to NYU ITP. Dan Shiffman is having a Nature of Code book release soon, you should go visit.
@tulip canyon oh rad!
haha what a fun demo
that's super creative todbot, I've never seen something like that.
Looks really performant. Frames per second?
With the pico2 I kinda want to crank the synthio 12 limit up to see what it can do
Awesome projects everyone. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks all, great projects
Thanks to all who shared.
Me too!
The crazy bashed out code for my little algorithmic music toy: https://gist.github.com/todbot/7dc50b8de8db03638a9a291e9132b488
Did you try the display any faster then 32Mhz?
display.refresh( target_frames_per_second = 20 )
That's still really smooth for 20fps target.
Yes, but when you request 32MHz, you get 25MHz on the Pico 2. If you ask for 40MHz you get 37.5MHz. I'm currently running it at 25 MHz beccause I was getting some supervisor crashes and I want to diagnose that a bit (CirPy on RP2350 is still pretty fresh)
That seems a bit odd.
Cool, with luck I have a couple Pico2s showing up tomorrow
There have been other DMA issues with RP2350 so this could be a similar problem
(And doing both 44 kHz I2S and 30 MHz SPI is asking a lot 🙂

@open girder Question: Have you thought about getting someone with museum curating experience to set up your tech museum? It is my brother's field so I hear him talk about it and I know he has been to NYC for training and there are a lot of skilled people there in that area.
That looks like that will be my new ender 3v2 computer.
Has anyone worked with auracast? I'd like to interface with some hearing aides which are auracast enabled. Nrf52840 does not seem new enough. But nrf5340 looks like the winner. Any thoughts from others experiences?
@adafruit I'm part of the skate community here 🛼. Wondering what's the smallest round screen you have. I have some ideas to trick out custom skates. 🤔

What's the lowest cost way to have a processor that does Ethernet and some form of high speed GPIO? I want to use 2 of them to build a data diode
Question—- any plans for a dual ESP32 (variant) board , connected by I2C/or serial … one could be thread / matter and another for Adafruit IO or something else
Thanks
Thank you!!
Those screens come in lots of form factors too, they're so much fun

Thanks Adafruit, have a great week
Thanks for taking time for us
👋
Thanks!
Thanks Limor! Thanks pt! Love the new motion graphics
Thank you folks,
I'll check out the nrf forums. Looks doable, I'm guessing power, clock, dac, and nrf5340 on a board will do it. The signia dongle starts at $500, so if I can pull it off less than $500, its a win.
Late question but PT are you using Maxon Red Giant tools for video? Just curious.
Is JP off this week?
Correct, JP is off this week

Wow, early deep dive, what a treat!
bad micro:bit, sit!
tried visiting adafruit forums a couple mins ago and they have a human captcha in place right now. unsure how long that will be for.
temporary caveat when trying to recommend people to visit the forums for support.
I already came up with an api example for status since they shared that... 15 mins and voila.
whenever i see those i'm just like please no motorcycles, street lights, or sidewalks.
Pick only those squares that make you feel hungry. It’s lunchtime here.
one way that could defeat midjourney is to have nothing but fingers and tell people to count the fingers. ai is horrible with fingers for some reason.
How is the work on the RP2350 going, eagerly awaiting my pico 2
yeah "this should be easy" are famous last words that end up in an 8 hour rabbit hole.
jeff greeling talked about low ppower
Is Adafruit going to make a board around the RP2350A, the brother to one on the pico 2
ahh, the bigger one has more gpio and some other extras
yeah i'm waiting for the feather and already have some 8mb psram chips to solder on. 🙂
Could be a cool use for CI... Have it pick last 3 major versions, builds firmware + file system image for all 3, runs the test case via wokwi CI, then reports which work, then picking the earliest broken commit and continue bisecting + adding to report. Eventually stopping at 500 bisects or some timeout or successful identification
Have seen the esp team using it for reporting idf changes, they have a simple print flash/ram/stack size to serial and wokwi returns that data to CI after test runs, and CI generates a nice table of ram+flash changes for all esp chips on any PR.
That's my route, If I need to switch checkouts, I create a new folder and fresh clone :/
Urish prides himself on having the simulation be accurate (as far as possible). He's quick to fix anything that isn't the same on a real board.
hey hey
For the question about LCD character displays, here is a photo of one plus 4 variants of I2C and SPI. The ones on the left are generic, and those on the right are two variants from Adafruit; the blue is older, and the black is newer. The displays can have a long row or short row of headers, and most of these displays operate the same way.
Bisect feels like a class in geometry, what is it referring to in a code sense?
It's a binary search through commits for the error
Would not a test harness written for the areas of the code help, kinda like java, so when you update the code the test is run against the section of code to make sure you did not break things
from the port folder?
I hear that there has been a jump in the emulated MCU that now exists for various MCUs.
is that listing in the order of new to old or old to new
since you are in less you can do / for forward search term and ? reverse search term
Murphy law when demo something new before a audience it will go bad

I am getting started for the morning now, taking a look at the M5Stack Dial device. You can follow along on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn1mlDqAO8g or Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
Heya, and +1 for lvgl bindings on circuitpython. after v10 maybe?
Same, but I do have to look at lvgl soon for other things
open installer can do the bootloader install too (usually)
web flasher is only bin as far as i know, same for esptool in python.
unlikely to work using web flasher (for bootloader install) from the board page for this board until bootloader version it points at is updated, likely if the zip download link fails then web flasher would fail. Oh I see the name is wrong for the firmware, maybe they'll be a dial board def in tinyuf2, or maybe they point the bootloader to stamp version.
Changing baud rate usually before, but it might adjust if it offers the dropdown still
I'd love a mechanism to show some default code.py (board specific), like a visual helloworld of the features / board factory demo
i watched it last night. good video.
a bunch. Maybe there's a board_examples repo that you can circup install board_examples and it grabs your folder of examples or something, then users/board-manufacturers could PR in their board examples if appropriate
You need audio so it makes that clicky sound
Look into tft featherwing. It uses irq touch.
I think it uses stmpe touch library. Will depend on that.
🇸🇪 👋
There are round qualia touchscreen. Maybe something like that.
I have been busy the last two weeks moving into my new house.
Guess just look into focal touch. Irq is an alternative to x,y touch.
Yes irq is a single interrupt.
or maybe you can ask for position over i2c once heard interrupt
It’ll be in the touch driver. For the featherwing its the stmpe driver. I only brought up the tft featherwing because i know it uses irq pin.
I think irq automatically reports the x,y when irq happens.
So it’s automatically built in. Touch x, touch y in comparison is more complicated
Qualia rgb 666 has a nice round test image as a wallpaper
With colors and ruler
Oh nvm, qualia is 720x720
Tilegrid it. Spritesheet.
Fork awesome symbol font?
One of the pros to a font is easier to change a symbol font color vs graphic editing.
Anchor point?
Getting the image offset to center them in a circle sounds tough.
Nvm, you made that so much easier than i thought it would be.nicely done.
Looks good. I do have a quick pr?
Public api should take about 1 min to review. Requests.
Ok np.
I did a liitle reverse engineering on adafruitstatus.com to figure out thats what they’re using and found the api.
I literally just did it on a whim and figured that must be their api id.
I have no idea. 🤷 i made that example in 15 mins just to do it.
Thank you for the stream. Have a great week!

LIVE FROM BROOKLYN! Desk of Ladyada - RaaAWWwwwr PLEO battery repair 🦖🤖🔋 https://youtu.be/x7x36VKhoKE
Part 2 of Desk of Ladyada! Last week, we tackled a battery issue with our old PLEO dinosaur robot by sourcing high-capacity NiMH packs from DigiKey. And, we'll look at the need for a specific 12V US AC/DC adapter with an 800mA output and a 3.5mm OD plug to replace the UK plug, ensuring the robot could be charged again!
missed the start, which type are they? NiMH?
AA NiMH tabbed!
OK
I just opened some antique PowerBook batteries this week… some Ni-Cd, some Ni-MH
I opened my headset that stopped charging to find a pillowy battery (that is now gone) 😮
and I noticed some people just replace NiCD cells with NiMH, but that's not really safe, and I've been wondering if it's possible to design a BMS/charger circuit to fit inside the case to make it safer while leaving the laptop charge them thinking they are NiCd…
And I had some ideas for cell holders that would fit in there because I don't want to spot-weld things I might use like 3 times.
🦕
i remmeber this kind with some way to ligit up from bottom with light and also ir when microsoft had it surface table back in the day
🥰
"couple standards" 😄
I had to find a matching connector for a charger. I tried measuring it but I couldn't be sure to a fraction of a millimetre. So I closed my eyes and clicked on one of them on Digikey.
Luckily it was the right one, plan B was to click on everything in my search results. 😄

It’s a fuse tester!
So VT100 not emulated!!!
I still use HJKL in vi because I used dump terminal without arrow keys when I was in university.
The rainbow-y steel has a protective anti-corrosion coating. I used to do sheet metal prototype engineering, but I forgot the name of that particular process.
Rainbow steel is I think cadmium coating. Not ok to lick.
Thank you JP I am having trouble make the code for that
Thanks to all for sharing
Thanks all for sharing
I don't think cadmium is the only one, I think it was related to zinc. The green coated aluminum in aircraft is definitely not safe to lick.
We didn't use anything toxic except one type of chrome coating.
(It was only toxic in the liquid, acid form)
thanks for the info @tame dew i will definitly be careful about not licking it and washing my hands after touching it
Yeah, I think this was the chromate conversion aka alodine coating. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromate_conversion_coating

Also Mark Komus beat me to it and did a synthio 24-voice custom build of CircuitPython for the RP2350 and it sounds great! https://mastodon.social/@markkomus/113024269593686969
Attached: 1 video
Did a custom build of CircuitPython for the RP2350 Pico2 increasing the synthesizer voices up to 24 (from 12). The RP2350 easily played all 24 at 44Khz audio. (The last notes 25-27 were discordant so I could tell that it stopped at 24).
#rp2350 #circuitpython #pico2 #synth
It's the worst thing in the hands of people thinking it's magic or giving right answers. I think you're the only one I've yet seen using it correctly.
i think it’s mostly useless but sometimes it’s better than google
On the ADS7830 is it “normal” for other channels to jitter (or even bias slightly) when one hits full Vref or Gnd? Is there a way to prevent it? I'm using 10k pots.
Is Adafruit using or investigating SiC and/or GaN, or are these ICs only meaningful for A/C or high voltage DC ? I am curious if BJT transistors are now frowned upon for all but audio.

Question:
so i have a li-ion battery from an old device all it says "BAT-1002-1", "1800mAh", "6.7wh". will it work with the memento camera? this battery works with my metro esp32-s2, so it should be 3.7/4.2V but i don't have a lot of info on this battery, just the text on it.
battery merriments
~57.5mm X ~41.2mm X ~6.7mm and a 41mm cord with a JST 2-PH port on the end
Question: I've seen people replacing old NiCd cells by NiMH in batteries for old stuff (like PowerBook macs), which I'm quite sure isn't very safe… I wonder if it's possible to design an interposer BMS that'd make the original charging circuit think it's OK, while making it safe? If I understood charge curves NiCd should have higher voltage when charged, so maybe it's not possible 🤔 Plus I don't fancy spot-welding cells in a battery I'd use like 2 times a year, so I'd have to design some thin enough holders…
@wind spoke heh i can’t imagine using wasd instead of hjkl, too much muscle memory using wasd with other vi motions
Oh, I tried the ECG mod on the Card10 badge from CCCamp19, was surprised how good it looked.

hey!
I'm looking forward to your project with the 5991 Power setup I have the stuff

Now that you're here!

VT100 - Know it well.
"hey isn't 'parsec' a unit of distance?"
hot-swappin' JP
Wrote a Tektronix-compatible graphics library for the VT100’s ANSI graphics character set once upon a time. In Fortran.
Head still hurts a little from that experience.

"Living hinge" from non-living matter! What mad scientist stuff are you doing, JP! You'll doom us all!
Resistance is futile...
aluminum doesn't like to bend twice
What did you create the case using, and were there any issues you experienced or were new to you

Will it run Doom? 😉
Curb find? WHAT STREET DO YOU LIVE ON? LOL
ikr? how does he find these things
My street only has vape pens that have been driven over
It might be damp inside. 🤔
I should be at MakerFaire in October. I think I will take a walk around the side streets.
That is awesome. I can smell the electronics from here.
Those old CRTs used to attrack very fine soot. They were typically used in offices back when smoking was allowed inside, and the smoke was attracted by the HT and collected around it.
Ahh, built in air purifier.
That's one way to look at it. 🤔 😄
Yikes! That's a big light.
Some of the later VT100s had nice paper white screens.
I am surpised there isn't a post-it note with a password on it.
The password is password. 😄
If you're lucky, the old login screen will be burned into the CRT. 🙂
"pencil"
Wopr or something like that
Thanks JP
Bye
Awesome stream. Thanks JP.
Thanks JP!
thanks very much!

👋
should you not say polygon with N sides
In geometry a rectangle is a 4 sided polygon
Could you define it polygon_intersect and if the objects don't match what is supported throw notimplemented exception?
Like make it a generic call like vectorio.intersect
I ran into an issue using vectorio because I couldnt use outlines/nofill
I saw your Math.dist() got added, which version of CircuitPython will it show up?
I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as some but if you have core questions, ping me, I'm half paying attention working on something else
I just got on a little bit ago and saw you put in a double underscore in a function name... could that be the issue?
You moved on really fast so I didn't see where it was exactly but caught my eye
It may have been line 83 and I missed you fixing it.
There is MP_TRUE and MP_FALSE defined I believe
I may have the exact syntax wrong
mp_const_true
square the distance
sqrt is also the same as pow **0.5
if you think of it x == sqrt(y) is the same as x*x == y
am I late?
I always am slightly surprised when code i write works
I get suspicious when my code builds too quickly.
Wait, you have code that works??
Only once in my life I wrote a program of some complexity and it ran first time, perfectly. I kept figuring something was wrong.
Works is a strong term
Are you eventually going to add checking for points as well?
I'm using this that you showed a while ago
https://www.jeffreythompson.org/collision-detection/point-circle.php
**Whistles in amazement.
Plotter looks cool
A displayio charting library would be awesome.
The Clue board had really great charting but I think that was Arduino?
Thanks!
Here's where I'm at trying to produce Delaunay triangulation.
The triangle gets created then the circumcircle of those points needs to check for other points.
It's in SciPy spacial and I've taken it for granted how easy it is to use in CPython
https://docs.scipy.org/doc/scipy/reference/generated/scipy.spatial.Delaunay.html
Thanks for keeping it real.
Thanks @smoky island Have a great evening
Awesome stream.
Cheers mate

Hey Tim 👋 and all.
Is this the arduino serial monitor charting equivalent functionality? I was going to recreate something similar, with a few alternative ingestion formats. Super relieved to see you having a crack at it (I've got too many things on the todo list)
arduino does, but think it uses a tuple, which must have one separator, like (10,) or more normally with many values (10,1,3)
ah much better
Curious how datetime / timestamps work out. Presumably only ticks or seconds supported (otherwise string dates would need to be understood)
Ah got you, that makes sense, the horizontal / x is always changing so fast
This is bringing back D3.js and other interactive chart memories
Avoid time/date like the plague, even a dedicated library like moment.js recommends against guessing/auto-parsing in favour of the browser locale/internationlisation options, enforcing a format on the user rather than accept all formats
Looks like great progress, nice one Tim
No scatter to my knowledge, that might be really useful for some needs
Thanks again Tim

hello!
What's the news, JP? Is the secret product a plushie? I hope it's a plushie.
Good afternoon.
It's a plushie
👋
Hello! 👋
Strain Plushie!
There's at least one vein showing, Mr. Park.
Two words on meme. Less bran.
cool shirt!
What a great day for a pick of the week.
Weight for it...
yeah at 80 Hz max read rate, not going to be using this cool 24-bit ADC for much else than scales. Could be useful for other scientific instrumentation?
Going to try it and a couple of other strain-gauge ADCs as a moisture saturation meter. These bridge ADCs are pretty good for milli/micro-volt differential signals.
I suppose they could be useful for eddy-current flex/strain measurements.
Did the scale report zero when the sockets were removed? I wasn't watching.
Close enough!
With the right strain gauge and plate, you can also measure air flow and direction.
@haughty quiver Try blowing on the plate...
that blows my mind
har har har
I am looking into smaller load cells to measure combat robots pushing ability.
What is the temperature rating? What if JP has too much hot air? 😄
use it to measure thermal expansion
It makes the air apparent.
might be nice to way to measure ice forming perhaps on water tube
Thanks @haughty quiver
Cool stream as always,
Don't know when I'll use it so I bought 1 ea. of the strain gauges.
Thanks JP! Massively cool.
thanks so much all!

Hey Y'll
Hi from Costa Rica.
That lady ada painting on the wall of the new factory is just impressively cool, I liked it very much.

This looks like my GitHub repo stats
Great projects everyone. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks to all for sharing
Thanks everyone! 😄
Thanks all for sharing fantastic projects tonight

7 years is 2555 days. maybe they thought it was a database error and reset you to 255 days?
Question: Is the Pico 2 pin compatable with original Pico? Doubler and Cowbells work with both? Thank you
Also an issue with Pico2/RP2350: touchio captouch sensors will not work, and doing buttons with internal pull-down will not work, as described on this page: https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects/getting-started-with-the-pico/6

QUESTION: Will the DVI Sock for Pico (ID: 5957) work with the new RP2350?
Question: how do i do the battery percentage on a momento camera? give me links to look over pleases.
Nice Denis Leary reference!
question—- when you use a GPIO pin as a “fake ground” are there any limitations you have found ? such as reading button states quickly ? speeds with I2C / SPI ?
also is there any family of chips you would not recommend (example ARM, RP2040, ESP32…. )
