sounds about right thank you. didn't realize main was 9.x... most of the backport fixes sound even more complicated for them to go back to 8.x
sounds logical right
Git rebasing seems like black magic to me :/
God, I thought I was the only one...
new project this should be quick and easy and gratifying
48 hours later pulling my hair out screaming why won't this work
djdevon yeah sometimes its "why this work"
TWAI = two wire automotive interface
have to look up half of the acronyms you mention because i've never spent a second in esp-idf, it's interesting stuff though.
lwip seems to be a big part of their tcp/ip stack
we only see about half of the code window
the right half of the code is under the chats
so are these errors being detected now because of better gcc ?
if it returns - it was rejected 🙂
were these library changes mentioned in the migration guide ?
maybe it's covered by CMake 🙂
there was another section called "libraries" in the guide
Yeah, LWIP is a big part of most every Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller.
is there a way to get the call stack on the assertion failure ?
It is light weight after all 🙂
can you run under gdb - and have a breakpoint in the assertion failure code?
like in %ld ?
can you log the whole string - not just the character ?
log "fmt" string?
Thank you! It was pretty cool!
#circuitpython-dev channel is mostly for board porting & library developers. #help-with-circuitpython is for most help with circuit python.
thank you for the stream, have a good night.
Thank you Scott. 😄
thanks all!
Thanks!!
I'm getting started for the morning now. You can follow along on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch or YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIkFhdFENnY. I'm trying out the new version of tft shield and then playing with web templates.
good morning
Good morning ☕
Hello
🇸🇪 👋
oops missed part of the stream, was working on putting together brackets for the matrix panel display
I published my first Python library on PyPi yesterday. 🥳
It is a library to control Elecrow's Growcube plant watering devices.
12 panels now
12? Wow!
The white thing is a reservoir for 1,5 liter.
What size matrices is that?
That is a massive amount of LED's!
not compared to a TFT... the biggest difference is the length of wires if you think of it as a massive PCB
Will you be showing that off in the Show&Tell when you are done?
Yes, fixed it all today but have yet to turn it on. 🤞
Fingers crossed then!
Was on show & tell last week with it but got the ordering wrong so it was all jumbled up. Reordered the panels in the correct order so it should work but would rather watch foamyguys stream than mess with it more for now.
it is handling it, but it replaces with HTML counterparts
Yes coming from PHP and figuring out indendation is part of the syntax messed me up for a while.
Though I was kind of used to all the period concatenations from JAVA.
I recently learned about
something = (
"line 1"
"line 2"
)
Those will be concatenated and separated by a space
Actually, that may just be directly concatenated.
you are right, but you can just put \n at the end of every line
or "\n".join(["Line 1", "Line2"])
I usually use a + but that's only if the lines get so long that pylint or black complains
oh I have to use + i think with requests projects, maybe why i'm so used to using +?
yeah for urls that swap back and forth between parameters and inputting variables
It's both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it forces people not to be absolute barbarians and use no whitespace. On the other, it can cause some very difficult to catch bugs. Particularly if you have a piece of code that shouldn't be at the end of a loop or vice versa.
yeah sometimes copy/pasting lines with the ending comma it might fail if the last line has a comma
That's just a syntax error. Those don't matter. What I'm talking about is putting lines at the wrong indentation level.
trying to unminify some random websites minified js to see what it's doing is something i don't wish on anyone
Mixing two languages in one file is generally painful, but to add total confusion to the mix Microsoft launched their T4 templating language where you mix c# with c#. And no editor support to keep them apart. 😬
isn't that what ASP is for? 😛
Not having lines declaring the end of a block opens up an entire category of bug that can't be caught.
like that's their whole motto
bracket and single/double quote inception is something I do not miss at all.
Basically, python doesn't have any mechanism to protect you from this...
with ...:
for ...:
if ...:
# lots of code
elif ...:
# lots more code
else:
try:
# yup, more code
except ... as ex:
# error handling code
# Help! I don't know what level I'm supposed to be at!
put a try/except around the entire thing... that's what i do so no matter where it fails i can just skip it lol
Doing that just makes it hard to figure out what actually caused the error.
Exceptions are meant for error recovery. But when something actually fails, you want it to fail loudly.
Not just VLC?
VLC for Ubuntu exists
I've been using VLC for like... 15 years. still my go to video player.
Pretty sure VLC supports DVD menu via media dvd option, but also Vob files
It does, but you need libdvd and libcss
% sudo snap install vlc
can get more info on it from https://www.videolan.org official VLC website
VLC killed Windows Media Player. MS didn't even bother anymore because at the time everyone was using VLC anyway.
After a new windows install VLC is like the 2nd thing I install.
I've never seen that. 😯
Thanks!
To be clear most of my projects are requests related so skipping api error messages instead of breaking is the only way to ensure it'll continue looping and try again later.
Thanks!
thank you for the stream. always enjoy ☕ & code with you.
Yeah I'd be inclined to fix the API.
To give you an idea of where I'm coming from. I'm a stickler for proper error handling because I used to work on firmware at Intel. There were two dominating approaches there:
- Hang the entire system, forcing either a power cycle or use of a debug probe.
- Suppress the error message in order to close the bug tracker issue.
Both of these approaches are terrible, particularly in firmware.
HERE WE GO! The Desk of Ladyada - MAX3421 'wing & debouncing & SWD IDC ports 🔧🔌💡https://youtube.com/live/FjbiyjPVoek
Limited hardware hacking this week! Prototypes and new boards came in, including the MAX3421 with TinyUSB stack support for Arduino & CircuitPython. A USB Ho...
Good evening.
☕ 🖥️
I like the side reset buttons on the new boards. the new oval button on the boards are nicer now too.
Evening
i did the PWM backlight bodge fix on one of my tft featherwings, it works fine.
Question: I saw the new ADS ADC stemma qt boards. Do you have any plans for some of the other cool I2C ADCs that Texas Instruments makes like the ADS7138? (It can be a fast i2c 8 channel ADC and GPIO expander) 🙂
Yeah, I previously made an ADS7138 driver for circuitpython but not full fleshed out yet
It’s a pretty neat ADC 🙂
the TFT featherwing is my all time fav display. just something about being able to plug a feather directly into a display that's very appealing.
It’s such a great board
they've been out of stock for more than a year though, i'm really happy to see it coming back.
😅
Tag are great but a bit pricy for the connector cable
the footprint of that doesn't look any smaller with the required holes.
Tag is a bit smaller than the IDC connector footprint
ah so just a matter of not having a banana for scale in the image kind of thing?
Common SWD tag is just 6 pins which is nice
oh the pin spacing is closer, doesn't look like 2.54
oh that's cool
if you're not trying to spin up manufacturing with a pogo jig this is a nice compact way for a couple of boards.
i attempted to pull apart an IDC cable to reuse with a longer cable, it did not go well, once an IDC cable is made forget about trying to pick it apart.
Question is it sometime hard to bounce from project to project and remember the hardware or software standards . … example coding in Ardunio and then coding in Python
Thanks and good night.
It can be but that's also the nature of hardware/firmware - you often have to take a break while parts and PCBs are on the way 🙂
its never boring!
thank you for another enlightening stream!
thanks all!

Yeah and it’s usually pending on YouTube about 1-2 hours before … don’t see it today
yep
He certainly would have been here by now. 😟
I also don’t remember hearing anything on any other Adafruit show about a schedule change this week. Humm

good morning ☕
All the tiny boards good for halloween props are sold out. The new propmaker, the gemma m0, and the qt py esp32-s3 with 2mb psram. Ugh.
the itsybitsy with BLE is in stock, probably the smallest board there is and does have a battery addon board.
any idea if send cut send will plane a super flat surface for a custom longer build surface?
been thinking about making a custom carriage for longer build plate
already have the longer extrusion pieces and belts, etc..
fusion 360 exports to the DXF they need?
yes guide please
+1 on wanting that guide
especially the folding/unfolding with fusion 360, seems like it might be the most complicated part to figure out.
oh my, anodizing is always beautiful
wow I'm gonna have to start outsourcing my metalwork
I want that tape measure
i need that in my life
That note space looks useful
I only have a ruler so anything longer than 1 foot I have to use a tape measure then convert to cm/mm
nice find! added to amazon cart.
British tape measures usually have both, inches still live on in our hearts
I think we're slowly converting to metric over here. It really is just a better way.
yeah devon
the skul projector with dice tower so it project the dice number

breaking? That I can do 😛
Hey Y'll
@rapid hornet need to check but I think settings.toml needs double quotes not single quotes.
or maybe both are OK
I'll check
kB or MB? 😛
512k ram
title says "micro m" but it's really "mini m". There seems to be a bug where I can't revise the page title now, oops.
wow
how much power are all those noods taking up? big battery in the hat?
100% for vanilla milkshakes
@low fractal IS the battery!
got a tron vibe to it too
I love how that hat looks. Just a clean look
oh for miniature shops…
@low fractal that is RAD and I want to learn how to do that!!
polyphonic synths 🙌
@blissful apex Thanks! I might add a page to the Überguide. Had you in mind as someone who’d take it in a creative direction.
'night all, I gotta split. glad I had the chance to share a little project.
well, anything that handles NFC…
my dumbphone already doesn't handle QRs, let alone that 😅
I should look into this for my brother. He runs walking tours and collecting payment is always "fun"
it's a beautiful board anne
oh yeah
Cool idea @open surge

that was supposed to be ASCII art but yeah works too 🙂
You're welcome! 😊
COBOL?
I had to read COBOL code about a month ago
Thanks Kattni! 🪢
yeah some administrations still need people who know these languages…
I'm currently working on cert #2 for myself as I watch this. I'll ask ChatGPT when I'll catch up 🙂
What?!?! You're not going to pivot and charge 2 cents per feather board installed?
or monthly fee like Musk wants to do on twitter?
Well that is irony. As you're talking about not having ads everywhere youtube decided to break in and show me an ad
YT interrupts livestreams with ads?!?
yah, youtube does ads no matter what, they seem to be amping it up too
they can and do now 😦
oh so that was the hickup I had here? It stopped the live and I had to shuffle around to get it back, but I guess uBlockOrigin hid the ad itself
might want to look at PeerTube or owncast maybe… just sayin 🙂
are the LED cool enough? we don't want to melt the styrofoam
do you mean the matrix panel? 1 matrix panel is ambient temperature. it's only when you chain like 9+ it starts getting warm.
Didn't have one here
might just be my DSL or Firefox acting up, I have like 4k+ tabs open
the ads typically happen when you first start the stream but not during a live stream.
@nova totem are you going to add more pumpkins to your display this year? I loved the Canadian pumpkin last year especially.
Thanks. I keep forgetting Halloween is a month away! I'm not sure if I'll get to adding more this year or not. But I did nicely put them away so they are easy to take out, along with my tiny tombstone I made with the Hallowing M4
100V !?
aw…
I was looking at analog muxes the other day… not always easy to understand the specs as some say it's "TTL/CMOS compatible" but actually only when powering them at 5V, not all accept standard levels for the command inputs when you use higher Vcc…
Found one finally but I'll just stick to the other I ordered as it's like 2$ instead of 8$, even if it's not controlled as binary but separate inputs.
mechanical switches have also bouncing…
I'll use a DG411LEDJ-GE3 for my 68HC705 programmer arduino shield… I'll use a MEGA anyway so plenty of pins to use, no need for a binary decoder.
And don't assume the logic levels are TTL compatible even if the docs says so, sometimes it's always the same voltage, but sometimes it's like Vcc-something…

Hi everyone. 1st time on adafruit discord, but been watching since ‘13.
Testing out my pi zeroW router system with the show and discord. Really good to see the community here..
@open girder Question: How do you decide if a product is worth making and how many units to make? Especially early on when it was a potentially bigger decision. Did you start just hand assembling orders you received?
Wow, HUSB238 live demo a beautiful demo of Lady Ada's explanatory chops! Thanks...deeply inspiring.
Question: What do you think the maximum amount of matrix panels the Matrix Portal S3 will drive? I'm up to 12 which is like 6 more than I thought.
And yeah, as I said the other day, the Cinepak encoder in ffmpeg is not multithreaded at all, no wonder it's slow
ok 12 it is, now i'll start on a wood frame.
Thanks for the answer!
😢 Always enjoyed his videos and guides. I still read his learn guides.
Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌒
RIP Tony, Thank you for taking time for us

I was worried about Tony. He was such a giving and great teacher. Sad to lose him.
thanks!
Were you trying to make a Lars Teddy Ruxpin?
If we can get the Ruxpin from eBay, maybe we can get Lars too?
What is that company?
Fuggler Sickening Sloth. Found one on e-bay. 🙂
Good afternoon!
hello!
good afternoon
just made it
ooh, that's great!
JP we missed you last Tuesday. Hope your doing well

good afternoon ☕ cool t-shirt! nice design. is that a BNC connector?
mars rover
ohh a 9-dof project?
some interesting extra content like sponge bob and so on
i wonder how this work wiht powerwash simulator vr
is there a setting where it's so powerful it'll strip all the paint off? 😛
oh you could make a real gun for Alyx VR, instead of a silly pair of handheld controllers. yeah a lot of cool VR controller possibilities.
interesting that that sensor worked so close to the bottom edge of the laptop. My phones compass gets completely disoriented there. (My laptop has magnets to hold the screen closed I think)
Ah the "FPV drone flight controller"-attachment for the Wii 😝
You can use this https://www.mayflash.com/product/W010.html to turn a Wii Remote Plus into a mouse.
Connect your Wii Remote Plus Controller to your PC by Bluetooth

(The ancient "Multiwii" firmware for quadcopter drones is called multiwii because it used sensors from Wiimotes)
What's the point of Goat Simulator? Why ask why. 😛
10 Hz update frequency honestly seems kinda low for a mouse input
can likely go up to 40, wild guess.

thanks for another great show!
You missed this hardware to simulate mouse on a PC with Wii: Wireless Sensor DolphinBar(Wiimote to PC USB )
WiiMotes are Bluetooth aren't they?
Yes, and you can pair it with that bar, that also has the LED for the IR camera. This is mostly used for Wii emulation with ... Dolphin. But you could use as a presentation pointer, or for game.
DIY solution are more fun... but sometime you can just put money on the table.
Hola from 'rado ! 😄
Same time in Brussels
good afternoon
Ooooh is it deep C6 time, or is there another plan this evening?
👋
What's the difference between i8080 (intel parallel) displays and the dotclock parallel.
I was hoping to add an i8080 based board
Think similar bit depth, but not looked properly at difference
Jeff seems masterful at it
bless you
So you wrote the C2 support without having a C2... and it might actually work?
Who is going to be testing?
some could test C2
Some future contributor 😉
Someone at Espressif has one. 😉
it could be funny if someone build C3PO droid with using esp32-C3
I remember when 32KB was a lot 🙂
Is it allowed to have a different default frequency for a custom board definitions i2c bus?
ohaio
If it has onboard devices it makes sense, but it needs to be reinitialisable at lower speeds per device if user needs.
Target Wake Time.
so what is "matter" ?
What kind of wifi do you have at your new place? Do you use the provider router or you have your own wifi for better control?
Hi from Costa Rica.
Lobbying for fibber was your thing. 🙂
No QT-nrf. I have a project on hold waiting for esp-bt.
I always love when I find out my home connection is faster then the server connection I'm connecting too
$45/mo for 100/100 fiber here in a dry forest in Costa Rica. Gig would be better, but 100 is quite good.
I'm with you there, thorough testing is hard to do. It gets worse the more I have been working on something too
fede2 any cool new riscv boards?
I got a shipment of MilkV stuff this week, but I haven't played with them. The duo which is dual core (1G/700) "microcontroller" that runs linux with 64megs of ram, also a Mars which is kinda like a slightly slower board to a Pi4.
I also got a donation of a pine64 tablet and the software is getting better by the week.
Which one is best for ethernet ? (With on chip ethernet MAC, instead of slow SPI alternatives).
Fede2 here is more Milk-v if you like https://milkv.io/mars-cm
as comparison for raspberry pi4 Compute module
The milkv duo is of the same form factor as a Pi Pico, and has on-chip ethernet (and RS485, for industrial environments). The same milkv folks have an adapter that will give you the ethernet port, so it's really simple and easy to have cable ethernet working in a couple of secs.
To comparte to a pi4, I would go with a lichee pi4 from sipeed or a milkv meles which is not really out right now, but comming real soon.
And you can get that one with 16G of ram when they come in stock.
Oh, and the milkv duo are $5 a piece, so they can't be any cheaper.
go for it!
That moon calendar was just stunning.
Yeah, it's a Lady Ada+Phil B project. It gets the phases of the moon from an API and shows them on the round screen.
Most screens look terrible on camera, but for some reason, that round one just looked amazing with a moon image in there.
I think it was a Desk of Lady Ada thingy.
This week, Ladyada experiments with ChatGPT for engineering tasks, using it to craft Arduino drivers. By analyzing chip datasheets, we will emulated the 'adafruit' driver style, leveraging the model's exposure to ladyada's GitHub libraries. Challenges exist, but prompt optimization may improve outcomes. We will craft a driver for the VCNL4020 IR...
And yes, I have plans for the weekend. My niece and brother are playing in a marimba "band" so we'll be traveling to a coast town to see them and other marimba bands. Some percussion festival or something like that.
btw, I saw that ZKM (like KMK but with Zephyr) uses something like a on the next boot go to uf2 for update, so you can reset the board by using a keyboard-button instead of a pcb-button. That was pretty cool.
I ended up using ZMK, but I have some boards+adapters in the snail mail so that I can "upgrade" my keyboard soon.
Yeah, I saw your keyboard library. I needed unicode, so I went with ZMK. But I plan on going to circuitpython as soon as possible.
it's all about the boxes 🙂
It's not unreasonable. I'm re-doing my workshop these weeks, and it's such a great idea.
I still need something to hold something like on-progress projects, so maybe bigger box.
did the logs go to the other uart?
the other week we talked about manual backtraces - but there were other issues - would it help here?
How is the sony camera working out? I'm thinking of buying a a6100 for use with a venus macro lens. Have been with nikon most of my life, so I'm a bit hesitant to do it.

are you reading the project learn guide ?
could it be the ** unpacking?
I blinka blue now? :p
Thanks Scott. Enjoy the weekend.
I'll come to the next one if blinka is going to be green.

Hey Tim!
Lol. We had a thunder storm here an hour ago. It rebooted my monitors. Only the monitors. I thought the computer died. 🙂
It struck just 300 meters from my apartment.
good morning, just waking up. ☕
library releaser?
kind of one of the things i don't like about adabot is it artificially makes libraries look like they've been worked on when they haven't been touched in years, sometimes. at least it leaves a comment that it was an adabot update of some kind.
i mean like sphynx, or pylint, or black format updates that makes some minor change and not a feature improvement in a repo codebase.
Anything you can do to further abstract the management of libraries is welcomed.
(That’s why I’m working on hardware designs today.)
i understand the need for adabot, it's awesome.
Thanks for the stream. Stay safe!
but like take wiznet for example i'll go to a library and look at the lastest update and it's usually adabot and not from the author., from a scripter point of view looking for examples it's deceiving... as a maintainer yeah you have a different perspective on adabot.
Ok, thanks! CU!
thank you for the stream, i'll be gone next week too.
I'm not sure I follow how it's deceiving though. Whether that latest commit came via the help of adabot or directly from one of the maintainers doesn't change anything in my mind. The change isn't presenting itself as a change to examples either way so I don't see how it would be deceiving.
last update doesn't always mean it was touched by the author, a lot of times it's adabbot doing maintenance., making it harder to see "what's new"

On the side of the webpage for circuit Python it appeared to show CP supporting ESP-NOW?
@echo canopy think there is a PR for it, have not tried it yet, but we think someone added recently
Cool , was something I used a lot and used Arduino IDE. Now I have more options:)
it was merged - try it out and let us know!
when is the pyportal update going to be ready and what new thing going to be added?
Looking forward to the 3.5" TFT Featherwing, my all time fav display.
pyportal update is coming after this Qualia S3 board is out since we will have a version with round/large screens 🙂
no ETA but we're making progress!
it would be cool if you meaded a pyportal with round display.
portals are typically square, rectangular, or circular. a wormhole would be a neat name for a pyportal with a round display.
portal tackily can be round two
yes all sorts of shapes and sizes 🙂
i learned about floating i2c address pins the hard way.
nothing a little bodge wire won't fix though.
maybe Bluetooth on the next pyportal too
thank you for another great parts lesson
Thanks @open girder and good night. 🌔
plus the s3 is dual core 😉

hello!
Howdy!
Good afternoon.
Hi John
in da house
good afternoon folks
Hello
Hey JP
Heya
Can it be used for a wind vane with a magnet attached to the vane?
That would be a good use for it hopefully. Picked up 2 for wind direction.
Yep something like this. Attach flat and while calibrated could send out some nice wind direction.
Thanks @haughty quiver
How well would it work as an alarm?
If “new” position != ‘“last”
Thanks!
Yep or have large magnets at different distances from the magnetometer and depending on the strength could determine direction. A lot of ways to work with magnetometers.
Ordered two!
thanks all!
Door sensor could be another use though a reed switch is a better application for that.
oh yay we also have a bunch of STEMMA QT cables back in stock
Yeah good point
Would using this be in vain?
good morning all

OBTW, Hey Y'll
I wish I could live next door to JP's mind for just one day.

Recycled bricks don't hurt the feet enough
Long screen is long.
@rapid hornet That stuff sounds very exciting!
🙂
haha the long cat is a great demo for a long "vertical" display
That loading on the long display reminded me of the AOL dial-up days of watching an image load
is there a way to reorient the init sequence to be landscape mode?
Neat work getting that display to work though— pretty cool !!!!!
screams cyberdeck. would love to integrate that kind of display into a keyboard or midi instrument.

I borked my whole system there, couldn't hear or talk. 💦 thanks @open girder for playing me out gracefully.

@left junco the timer is great!
MQTT to sync multiple devices is also a great idea I'd never thought of.
0.020" thick PETG sheet with car tinting!
ahhh so smart! and for the lights? (if you dont mind me asking)
So many features @left junco Very well done!

some SAMD's are coming back... which is a first for like 2 years. that's kinda cool news and good to see.
gonna throw this ? in the list now because I may have to go and watch on replay later..
I've fallen in love with the VS1000 chips from the Adafruit Audio FX boards... is there anything even remotely similar for video, either analog or digital? 🥹
There are dozens of Android based video boxes, but is there anything... more... simple... like BriteSign digital signs that isn't $800/player?
uh oh I already made all my open-source hardware for the year - I have nothing left for October
yeah means silkscreen changes for PCB designers for the OSHW logo. Well if you've thrown their logo on your boards prior to the change I guess they can be considered OG boards. 😛
open source logos... not as open as you would like
this logo and hackaday (and adafruit) are the ones i've done that have lasted the longest
was specifically talking about how they recommend advertising the board registration
because that's what gets silkscreened, well it's the recommended way to do it anyway.
lol
good luck at silkscreening that on a smol PCB... also... always bring the fun
This is true.
skerr might do that silk screening
I’d defer to that dragon guy paintyourdragon 😉
He does a lot of the Adafruit silk screens
what about DIY My Dragon?
Phil B's designs are gorgeous but with EasyEDA anyone can make pretty silkscreen art.
Cgrover has some pretty board designs too.
Tiny silkscreens are possible without pinguin.

Adafruit Qualia ESP32-S3 for TTL RGB-666 Displays https://www.adafruit.com/product/5800
@open girder Question: 8-bit SPI TFT/AMOLED displays? I've come across a few ESP32-* boards with in-built displays that have 8-bit data but seems to be otherwise SPI and ST7789-ish. Have you played with this at all? There is a paralleldisplay core CirPy module, I guess it's for that?
RGB666
for spoopy season
Qualia is also a pizzeria in Niagara Falls.
I love a round display, those look amazing
Would make for great clocks and time displays, with round widgets for temp, etc..
what would be a reasonable FPS to expect on those displays with the S3
with cinepak 30 fps if the only thing you're doing is video. depends on what else you're trying to do with it.
Question: I have an 18VDC power supply, but need USB to power a Bluetooth receiver. Id love to use your UBEC. it's rated to 16V but the chip it's built on is rated to 23V. would it be OK to use?
normally animated gifs with displayio typically can expect about 10 fps on circuit python... i'm specifically speaking about circuit python.
it'll run faster on arduino.
Q: 1) if your merging micro python & circuit python, which name is going away? 2) are all the old tutorials still going to work with the combined ver of micro / circuit python?
dotclock with displayio @robust horizon 🙌

The only thing that I would like to see with the PCIE adaptor is either the back end of the connector being cut out, or having a x16 slot with the majority of pins not being populated. This just allows for cards that do not have a 1x interface to physically fit, and we can just deal with the reduced speeds (for the device only being at 1x).

Hi 👋🏻
Love that Feather. Used the ItsyBitsy M4 Express in a bunch of projects, too.
@haughty quiver Does this have a decent amount of RAM and storage for the latest CircuitPython? Have used this board a lot with Arduino and love it.
Question—- with Arduino can it play MP3 off the SPi and use DAC — correctl ?
That likely depends heavily on which chip is being used. MP3 decoding is probably too much to ask of an AVR-based chip, but ARM or ESP32 (xtensia or RISC-V) should be able to handle it as long as there is sufficient memory.
I made a little gadget a couple years ago that plays MP3s using CircuitPython, for what it's worth
Thanks @haughty quiver
Thanks! 😄

I don't know that I'd do the LM3405 again; you need extra flyback and boost diodes, but it works!
Thanks I didn't find this when I was looking!
it's not published to the bundle yet. It uses a PIO StateMachine per pin so you can't use it simultaneously for all 23 pins of an RP2040 like you can with touchio. So it's in limbo currently until I can get back to it. But it's much faster, as you found!
Totally. I rolled it into an esphome component but it does not do multiple pins. (Or max 8 pins I guess.) https://github.com/dlizotte-uwo/esphome/tree/release/esphome/components/rp2040_touch

💎
Question: Is there anything that excites you about specific elements of the Pi5, or any use cases that came to mind? (Personally the better USB bus means the world, less concerned with 4lane mipi)
Power button!
yeah the pci-e will be epic for old hardware reuse
In my experience, the floating point unit improves displayio performance significantly.
I think the southbridge came first, so i wonder if the other way around, rp2040 benefitting from RP1 work. Be an interesting year of discovery as the true wizards play with it
Why do you think the southbridge, which shipped 2+ years later, came first?
ah
M2 for storage vs sd card is interesting.
pt: "it's not a competition" ladyada: "I won"
Samd went out of stock, pivot to esp32, rp2040, nxp, etc. Good to have alternative avenues.
yah, means we can do way more now, never let a crisis go to waste 🙂
I still haven't finished reading that thick Mindshare book about the PCI specs, let alone PCIe 😄
The scoreboard is so cool. This is still on my todo list to maybe use the feed to show time remaining and live scores too. One day
Logos look great
That is a boatload of JSON on ESPN API lol
The API work Liz did for that project is impressive. Way to go Liz!
Same. I had to check, and indeed, I have the mindshare books. I'm not sure I've cracked the PCIe book open.
Makes me wonder if there are any mobo with PCIe, PCI and ISA at once… 🤔
got my stash of 68HC11s when people finally pivot back to it! I'll be famous!
eh, I still have 2 boxful of PICs to sort out at the fablab
ooh I need a remote control candy dispenser
Ok, mobos with PCIe+PCI+ISA were definitely a thing. Some even have an LGA775 socket… meaning they can be fitted an LGA771 Xeon with some persuasion. 🤔
Another option could be to make a PCIe to ISA bridge card with ribbon cable to an extra backplane…
Oh no, more projects 😨
Is there going to be a PT 3D printing rant this week?
I randomly came up with a great name for a segment.... "Phil Laments"
Do those label printer have DRM on the tapes like some other I-wont-name-brand?
are there labelers that have around 1/8" (3mm) tape? (question for everyone, not ladayada specifically)
Question: does that work with QR code too? (serialisation)
PIC box nr 342…
(GS1 digilink would suit that)
PIC box nr 343
Does it support ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD)?
the / / formats are so confusing because of American putting things out of order 😅
Is it specific heatshrink or any white one?
Doesn't look that expensive
Well, should check the prices for consumables too
just like regular printers the devices are subsidized by consumables…
Specially if it doesn't have DRMs on the cartridges, though there aren't generic yet probably for this brand
Unless you’re a Browns, Guardians, Cavaliers, Bluejackets fan! #factoryofsadness
