i love that so many folks have made the midi fighter
I should make one
please do! 😺
I dunno what I'll do with it, but I'll make it XD
Maybe make a version with a Pico W to control musical stuff over WiFi....

Dang that's a good display sword
I think fidget spinners are going to forever have a lower level presence -- always around

Mooltiplex? 😄
nice tree there
Thank you for taking time for us.
Thanks folks, cya tonight!
thanks so much for hanging out folks!

Great show guys. 👍
Thanks for the show!
thanks guys
thanks guys!
looking forward to joining the show and tell tonight 🙂
Hey Y'll
Good evening everyone

Good evening everyone.
👋 howdy folks
Dajia hao! 👋
Good evening all ! Please join and show a project.
good evening
Couldn't get six?
does each arm on the flake have a single noodle? are they really that long?
I mean "Good evening"
👋
that's a cool ipad project
Probably each has one 300mm noodle
That ipad looks really cool
check out the guide for the deets: https://learn.adafruit.com/led-noodle-snowflake
Welcome back, Scott.
Whoa this is cool @rapid hornet
Could be cool for low power sensor readings where the ULP can read it and every X time CP can do something with that
@rapid hornet could it do PIO-like stuff?
fascinating stuff. Neat way to offload some work to something else
@slow spire yeah, that is kind of the inspiration
except circuitpython isn't assembling the full program
8k of program memory is a lot more than 32 bytes
Treating an attached microcontroller's (-controllers?) pins and internal (and attached?) devices as autonomous python objects is certainly at the next level. Wow, @rapid hornet !
Very interesting for long running/low power stuff; could be nice to pair with epaper
ya, I'm curious to see what folks do with it
@grim robin the view on the video was a bit small, if you can share the links on here too that'd be awesome!
@grim robin you can DM me the links and I'll post them
@sand lotus it took me a week to get the "qt py parent" pun
@sand lotus I have spliced grounds before. Not the most elegant but works when you need to hook them up! But your board is nicer still
hi! here are the pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/38447095@N00/sets/72177720304203212/
@grim robin thanks. due to spammers we have some limits on sharing links, that's all
That's a clever solution to maintain well-grounded circuits. Nicely done, @sand lotus .
Gorgeous, @sand lotus
Wow, if you want that mask to work I bet you have to hold your tongue just right.
YESSSS
@robust horizon ah, no prob!
Love seeing the evolution of the The Cowbell.
thank you.
what's Twitter?
digiwish hacks lol, that's smart.
Remember Twitter?
Looks like a Mastodon knock-off
Don't know, but I hear tweets outside when I fill the bird feeder. Is that twitter?
Still holding onto my 5-char Twitter handle, but don’t have much hope
Twitter? Isn't that like the text version of TikTok?
oooh LEDs
My Twitter if you wanna comment on the tweets for digiwish
https://twitter.com/MakeItHackin
Nice.
so cool. led libraries keep getting better and faster!
pretty awesome @nova totem
nice work @nova totem! Very cool
BTW, I’m @erico@mastodon.social
niiiice! I didn't think CircuitPython could do the icicle demo, that looks fantastic
great progress Gamblor!
Hooray 🎉 Thanks for showing the lovely LED demo Mark!
the christmas tree looks great
Nice, @nova totem
nice pixel art!
Ooooh chatGPT
the bajoran star trek novel was kinda hot
This is the icicle library
https://github.com/gamblor21/pyicle
Amazing animation speed, @nova totem .
Thanks everyone
Almost good enough - like copilot
that's kinda scary how well it does
it went straight to using a PIR named variable too
That’s the kicker. It’s kind of convincing; it looks right at first glance.
so basically it's an A.I. version of stackoverflow
Wondering if chatpt with speech output could be used to create interesting podcasts. Or hit song lyrics.
Thanks @split gazelle !
Great projects everyone. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks to all for taking time for us
Thanks all for sharing. thanks Liz for hosting
great projects everyone!
great stuff y'all
Thanks, @split gazelle !
Thanks Liz. and thanks everyone for sharing tonight!
Thanks @split gazelle and great projects everyone
awesome demo Jepler. i was actually wondering how it would do. not only showing how it does but code reviewing it by a pro is awesome. answered every question i had about it and CP.
Thanks @split gazelle and all the show and tellers!
❤️
Here is the project I showed:
https://github.com/gamblor21/Christmas_LEDs
@nova totem it blows my mind how we can make the leds animation as fast as in C, while doing it all in python. Which cicrocrontoller you were using?
Was there a link to the hardware that tannewt was playing with?
QtPy RP2040. The recent neopxl8 library really sped it up and then PixelMap in the core sped that up another huge bump
lots of LED animation optimizations happening across the board. they really are much more capable now.
If you ran it on a non-RP2040 board it would be slower but the PixelMap changes would still help
hi all!
did the all the new optimizations kind of stem from trying to run doom?
I believe it's a custom board he designed and had made
Nooo I missed show and tell DX but I get to see JP! Hi JP!
oic
The ulp stuff is esp32-s2 or s3
the board I held up is custom
Hmmm Doom on NeoPixels...
scotts stuff is so advanced it's a mile over my head. not even sure what it does but i'm sure it's awesome.
Hi all!
Hiiii
doom wasn't running inside circuitpython, that would be way too much to ask
ulp was the coprocessing stuff?

Bon soir, y’all!
hello world
getting metaphorical with the "here" as a virtual construct, i like it
I'd take a "here" that is just warmer then where I am right now
New stuff, JP?
🏴☠️
Hey, ChatGPT, where is “here”?
i was going to ask about the mustache but definitely getting Errol Flynn vibes from it, makes sense now.
Not to be confused with Swatch (tm) Buckle
oh my goodness! this makes me think "buckle" and I'm wondering about making a PCB routed out to act as the "click in" part of a side release buckle... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1074129
This is a side-release buckle or parachute buckle that works with 3/4 inch straps or 'webbing'.
I modeled this so I could print a replacement for a broken clip on my pack. Originally printed in PLA, which has been surprisingly functional so far, but I've reprinted in PET+ which has a much better flexible quality to it and should last far longer....
or the Pantone Swatch Bundle
What’s different between V1 and V2?
Jepler, I'd rather try magnets than physical click in for ergonmic keyboards. still not a bad idea either way.
It was a QT Py RP2040
Hey, stable diffusion, make me a Swatch Pantone buckle
click in buckle PCB could be good for my ski goggles... there's definitely applications for it.
GlowFlake!
I'm not sure how well this is gonna work in practice
Beautiful if not functional.
BTW, I’m using DiffusionBee lately. Runs native and entirely locally on macOS. https://DiffusionBee.com
I wanted a little keyboard and remembered this existed but it’s discontinued
https://www.adafruit.com/product/4818
From the folks at Solder Party comes the Keyboard FeatherWing, an easy way to add a handheld QWERTY keyboard and a 2.6” color display (+ more) to your project! ...
Now what else to add to my cart…
i'd be willing to do it if Adafruit wants to fund the project.
Same, lol
2000 cowbells multiplexed
i bet i could at least get it to 1024 devices
oh no, it was my favorite
lol unfortunately the tr-cowbell isn't really chainable because both i2c busses are already in use on the pico.
Why is it gone, it’s so perfect ToT
the 1m version may still be available https://www.adafruit.com/product/5153 https://www.adafruit.com/product/4111
This cable is not only super-fashionable, with a woven pink and purple Blinka-like pattern, it's also made for USB C for our modernized breakout boards, Feathers, and more. If ...
I mean real cowbells. With maybe servos.
I wish there were a C to C version

@teal river SolderParty has one called the BBQkeyboard
do adafruit_ticks next time @haughty quiver
They need to get it in the Adafruit store yesterday
@teal river https://www.tindie.com/products/arturo182/bb-q20-keyboard-with-trackpad-usbi2cpmod/ It's actually a KB ripped out or repurposed from a BlackBerry
I loooove the BB keyboard, it’s the perfect thumb keyboard
I shall have to consider since it can’t go in my order…
If you're good with hardware hacking you could use the Adafruit bluetooth one they sell https://www.adafruit.com/product/3601

Blinka now compatible with every unobtainable pi.
Speaking of things I didn't know you could do with CircuitPython .. persistence of vision with LED strips. 🤯
I would be able to adapt that, but would be afraid to break it for that much XD
Raspberry Pi said they're working on the Pi availability problem. They tooted it shouldn't be a problem in 2023. They're working on it.
Mmmm portable PlexPi
Love the PCB design, todbot's elevating his skills. Also he was in PiMag recently.
Bobricus's board is much cooler than my thing
I’m really not holding my breath. Tempted by things like BigTreeTech and Khadas alternatives.
Todbot you're stuff is amazing, stop being humble, you're awesome.

There will always, ALWAYS, be something else that's better, faster, stronger than whatever you're making. That should have no bearing on the thing you make standing on its own as being awesome. If everyone only made stuff because it's the best in the world there would be no makers as corporations would make everything with their unlimited budgets.
I think checking out without a code is what I do
Kattni's mastodon API guide is excellent!
The more stuff i see about WLED the more I want to play with it. Maybe use it to control stuff in the dragon mask.
I think you can do 268435456 (268 million) GPIOs by using 299593 I2C expanders in 8 layers; they'll have a total of 2097152 I2C GPIO expanders each of which have 16 GPIO, giving the total figure. Excluding the cost of wire, breadboards, shipping, etc, that's about USD14.5 million.
What’s WLED?
Would need power and signal injection, would reach some kind of cat5 wiring length limit.
A fast and feature-rich implementation of an ESP8266/ESP32 webserver to control NeoPixel (WS2812B, WS2811, SK6812) LEDs or also SPI based chipsets like the WS2801 and APA102! https://kno.wled.ge/
SAVINGS!!! This was all the money I saved not spending money during No Spend November on food, lol
(also nice URL)
Thanks @haughty quiver
It's a way to get control of them on a phone app, kinda like commercial LED systems do except you can run it on your own microcontroller like a qt py.
@teal river getting a free Circuit Playground with that order. very nice!
and shipping
Not everything has to be the fastest and newest anyway! Sometimes there are advantages to going previous gen on stuff, like spending less on an old chip compared to the latest when the old one does fine
Yeah! And I have 6 months to pay it off with PayPal :3
i don't think i've ever seen a trinket on a module, very cool
That's amazing 🤤
todbot? why... and how... are you just mind blowingly amazing. i definitely picked the right person to steal... i mean open source.. ideas from.
hehe yeah that was my "what's the simplest eurorack module I can make with a Trinket M0"
That OVERLOAD light is getting a workout, lol
This reminds me of Portal 2 music a bit…
more like tron legacy
True
Ahhh so excited for new Adafruit stuff! I don’t think I’ve ordered anything since last October!
Written in C? :0
i might want to get into eurorack but i don't even know where to start. the deck... power modules... no clue.
yay knurlies
Same
modular synths / eurorack is mostly very silly and too expensive. but there's some DIY modules or kits that bring the cost down
Guess you gotta build your own, lol
so basically just like any hobby
The resistance of the filament changes with the temperature...
I was afraid you weren't going to sing the new song
I like this new song
i was into car modding and repair for a while, now that is an expensive hobby.
New new new new new new new new song I guess, lol
electronics is cheap compared to some hobbies relatively speaking.
Rubber Slide Potentiometer Nubbin - Pack of 3 https://www.adafruit.com/product/5621

Yup, 320x240
Or 240x320…
So many pins, lol
currently working on the eyespi breakout guide. definitely nice to work with
don't need the pins if you use the eyespi connector

I am look for Stacking Headers for the Pi Pico
ahahah @haughty quiver is that sitting on top of a CRT?
Ohhh I love those IBM displays!
LCD, 1024x768 13”
Or was it 14”…
ThinkCentre
ThinkVision for monitors!
ah, that's it
ThinkCentre for desktops, ThinkPad for laptops
I'm definitely on the soft synth side. All my music is soft synth and midi controllers. Hardware was always way too expensive for me to get into.
I need to try VCV Rack again
Anyone know where I can get Stacking Headers for the Pi Pico
They’re listed in the Adafruit shop, but out of stock
they seem to be out of stock everywhere in the world not just adafruit
yup we hear it now
Yay sound!
i can't find any on digikey, all 20 pin stacking headers out of stock :/
Time for DIY stacking headers
that sounds great
@sand lotus search for adafruit 5582
Out of stock
For stacking headers, I bought a bunch of 8-pin ones long ago and clip them and use a file or sandpaper on their sides to make 20-pin or any size
on digikey.ca 3 in stock
yeah you could do that
Or solder regular pins under and regular headers to the top, lol
i use 20 pins and cut them down as feather headers sometimes too. it goes both ways.
haha sorry, just crashed
Oop
famous last words
lol poor JP's computer
please standby
The best was hearing "oh no!" right before
I need about 100 20 pin stacking headers
"What does this button d......."
for the PI Pico
He pushed the history eraser button didn't he
we're back
Guess you’ll have to either back-order 100 or improvise
didn't even have to refresh, that's cool
I have not gotten back
no audio though
no sound
Oh wait yeah moving with no sound
@haughty quiver no sound
@haughty quiver no sound
Lars demanded more attention
I can see JP moving his lips...
sound is good!
YAY
got sound
audio good 👍
Sure, blame it on Lars.
I mean it usually is Lars
"Lars" Swedish for "scapegoat."
Lars is Swedish for “technological terror”
@sand lotus https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/samtec-inc/SSA-132-W-T/1105880 may be similar but it's certainly not identical. digikey seems to call the length of the pin side in/through the PCB the "Contact Length - Post" if you want to search in the Headers, Receptacles, Female Sockets section for it
and there's https://www.adafruit.com/product/3366 which is also out of stock on adafruit and the digikey link's not working for me
oh those look snappable too
Ticks? Like the blood suckers?
You’ll have to sacrifice a pin…
project coming along great!
What’s the difference between the MicroBit V1 and V2?
@teal river I don't really know myself but I found this page about it: https://kitronik.co.uk/blogs/resources/explore-micro-bit-v1-microbit-v2-differences
Cap doesn't feel the same
Convenient XD
Those ThinkVision monitors last FOREVER
thing i don't like about cap touch for instruments is it gets hard on the fingers. i like the tactile feedback and springs like keyboards offer, easier on the fingers.
@haughty quiver we only wanted to as lars questions
Does Lars have family?
Does Lars miss his mom?
Umm and I just looked at the price. Jepler that's not going to work lol. They want $5 per stacking header.
Lars is an only thing
thanks JP and goodnight!
Is Lars a cyborg? Did he steal someone’s kidney?
I wasn't paying attention to the price, ow @sand lotus
Who???
yeah the original was just a housing on a tactile switch... so you can make your own if you have a 3D printer. something i'm definitely going to look into 😉
The Adafruit link is a pack of 5
Thanks @haughty quiver . Good night everyone. 🌕 🔴 (that's the full Moon & Mars)
Good show! G’night!
great show! thanks @haughty quiver
Moment of Xenomorph
thanks JP, good show!
I saved!
Haha, Zoro
JP is the best
🤺
Thanks JP
Bed time for me… nini
totally called errol flynn but i was thinking about robin hood
👋
hi
Hi! I just got my Adafruit order!
Hi All. Happy Friday!
Just switched to PyCharm from Atom. Initial confusion gradually being supplanted by clarity. Is proving to be very worthwhile.
Hello guys! 🖖
👋
was gonna say... it's bitmap saver? save or take_screenshot is a much better name though.
i came in about 15 mins late. i always rewatch your videos later too
cracked screen? 😦
Heheh, octocat
possible to fix the glass?
is it already at the step for renaming show. sounds like it's almost ready, other than cleanup? i imagine renaming show would be part of the last steps.
I have a crack like that on my one phone screen protector… if it works it works
You should never get rid of that! It has character
The "private" api ...
right, keep forgetting this is still long horizon changes
If you had an OS which can run C#, and a board that had GPIO pins yes...
In addition to creating graphical interfaces via web servers such as Node.JS or Python and TKinter, we also have the option to run GUIs that were created by Visul Studio on the Raspberry Pi. These are created via Windows and then made executable on the Raspberry Pi. Not much is needed! In this tutorial we
yup i always do time then board. Mu does have the ability to suggest import orders if something is really bad otherwise it won't complain.
actually, it's not mu, you're right. it's pylint or black after i submit a PR
which is suuuuper handy for code correction suggestions
Show none = blank sounds logical
Yes, pylint usually has a couple of suggestions for import ordering in my experience.
I guess since none = terminal on MCUs, then there could be there could just be blank for blank?
… and once I got over the “my code is working fine so why the suggestions?” attitude, pylint has become a great Python mentor for me.
Suggestions on fully working code are to help optimize, right?
i don't think you can allow a literal blank as it probably requires some kind of type. None is a type, True/False is a type, etc..
Scott smart
cgrover i felt that way about Mu... but my code is now gorgeously laid out and forced me into great habits. at first i wanted to hold onto my bad habits bringing over my php syntax into cp which is a bad idea. overall Mu forced formatting and pylint, great for at the end of the day sharing code in discord, github, etc..
Everything I write is an utter mess, and usually has lots of old comments and commented out code for things I was trying or was from code I grabbed elsewhere XD
there is some php compilers what helps so no need to write php
yeah when you start pushing PR's and knowing your code is going to get reviewed you approach it in a different way. the code just for myself, not on github, or in a PR, is extremely messy. kinda like getting dressed up for church vs hanging out in sweatpants.
Devon hehe
I did a bunch of coding of firmware in assembly where structure and beaucoup comments were essential. Created some good habits except concise brevity. Still working on that.
i write comments geared towards beginners, probably something i picked up reading so many adafruit learn guides, it does rub off, but it even helps to give reviewers context to quickly glance through PR's
bee a cup lol
I don't really write comments myself 👉 👈
Or future me to remind me of the new concept I just applied.
it's french, means many. "bu- coo"
"beaucoup" is pronounced "bow-coo" but I don't know what it means XD
it's the french equivalent to plethora
I usually write all the comments, then figure out how to do that in code.
bow like bow and arrow XD
Trying to convey pronunciation via text is hard, lol
beaucoup
bō′koo͞″, boo͞′-, bō-koo͞′
yeah no way I could "type" those phonetics without copy and paste.
i lived in a Louisiana... we pronounce it boo-koo. yes boo-koo is the american phonetic.
Is that a "blame" plugin you're using in pycharm to show who wrote what? (you prolly explained this earlier)
Even in the French Quarter?
which might be slightly different from french canadian or french because it's based on creole.
did i live in the french quarter? god no, i wouldnt' want to wish that on my enemy. nasty place. fun to visit would definitely not recommend living there.
Agreed, blame is not the best word.
"blame" doesn't sound good at all
does anybody know whether its possible to clone/fork only one folder in the https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Learning_System_Guides
repo?
🕳️🐇
pycharm has so many options, pycharm is awesome.
Author ... 100%
its huge
learn guide documentation in github is like 4-7GB. found out the hard way one day
i think total learn guides are over 2000 now
you can make a shallow clone
similar to what the "fetch-submodules" command does in the cp repo
with the frequency they work on learn guides, and god forbid adabot goes ham every week, pulling origin before a push is probably an ordeal.
core actually isn't so bad, i've found the learn documentation far more intensive
you can find the right commit with git blame
core has been streamlined by devs for the purpose of fast builds.. learn documentation doesn't work that way.
goodnight
nini
shallow clones seems to have to do with commit history, but found "sparse checkout"?
Seeya!
thank ya!
Thanks!
turns out, exchanging .com with .dev in the git URL will start VS code interface where you can choose freely which folder to download. very easy that is!
Getting started now for the morning. Attempting to make a gradient helper for displayio. Follow along on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVAiUL_Tves or Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/foamyguy_twitch
👋
I published some gradient tools in the Community Bundle a while ago: https://github.com/CedarGroveStudios/CircuitPython_RGB_SpectrumTools
good morning ☕
N-color uses a list for a custom spectrum gradient
i've been up all night working on a new rev on the tr-cowbell. figured out how to improve it and knew if i went to sleep i might forget.
Was able to get palette slicing working this morning. Here’s a test of getitem to confirm slice object parsing. Thanks to JP for the bitmap. https://youtu.be/qfwl0dukwvg
This is a test of the CircuitPython class, PaletteSlice. The class puts a wrapper around a displayio.Palette object to allow slices of the object to be read or written. This test was conducted to confirm the slice parsing algorithm using getitem.
Still to test: setitem, del, append
modifying every LED to be non addressable 4 pin RGB. if i use a WS2811 IC to control them can chain them all together plus use LED animations, etc..
modifying every single step switch is labor intensive but it'll be worth it.
Yes. Full list slicing for start, stop, stride including sequence reversal.
Still need to include delete, insert, and append. Learning a bunch about slicing.
basically turning a non-addressable 4 pin LED's into addressable LED's.
A Python class that wraps the palette object since a displayio.Palette object can’t be inherited.
also deletes 1 of the MCP23017 chips. in the process easily freeing up the 2nd I2C bus for stemma or I2C on any pin. learning one step at a time.
Fascinated observing your thought process and design considerations. This will be one heckava sequencer.
-> The helper returns an RGB compatible integer
hex() just converts an integer to a string
kinda cool
Change the mode to continuous
Because light mode includes black
Would filling with a vectorio line be faster?
smooth gradient, looks good
set it to 1.0 see what happens
when playing with colors you want your eyes to see the visual differences
then try 0.1, you want to see the high and low
To get white boundaries, add white to the color table and select continuous mode.
Every TFT display is different; gamma lets you tweak it.
then it's acting like dithering in a way
one trick with horizontal gradient is glass buttons, apple first introduced it and was really big in the 2000's
screenshot from my website, i use it heavily because i love the look. very simple to do in any color
Converting RGB bytes to a composite integer:
return (int(red) << 16) + (int(grn) << 8) + int(blu)
“Premium” gradients
That’s a nice algorithm. Better suited to this application than rgb_spectrum_tools, I think.
Works for red but green and blue will need “AND” masks
grn = (color& 0x00ff00 ) >>8
blu = color & 0x0000ff
For gradients, it’s easier to work with R, G, and B separately when calculating the overlap. They act like separate spectrums.
Really like the gradient granularity parameter.
multiple moving gradients sounds cool
Would be interesting to convert the result list to a palette and apply to a bitmap of a gradient shaded shape. Could the gradient shaded shape be created algorithmically?
Would that be a way to create fancy premium gradients?
good morning
Got to shovel the walks, so will watch the rest on VOD. Fascinating session today. Thanks!
or you can use .extend() to be more explicit
nope, been listening while redesigning my board. pretty rainbow day.
👋 thank you for streaming foamyguy
thanks
@smoky island Defined a gradient vectorio shape consisting of all vertical lines with a separate palette index for each line. Created three gradient palettes with a color defined for each line. Drew the composite vectorio shape with one of the palettes then replaced the composite shape's pixel_shader with the other palettes.
import board
import time
from vectorio import Rectangle
import displayio
from cedargrove_rgb_spectrumtools.n_color_table import Spectrum
OBJ_WIDTH = 320
OBJ_HEIGHT = 120
FRAME_DELAY = 0.5
# Define the display and primary display group and show
display = board.DISPLAY
primary_group = displayio.Group()
display.show(primary_group)
# Create Red/Yellow/Green light-style spectrum
spectrum_1 = Spectrum([0xFF0000, 0xFFFF00, 0x00FF00], mode="light", gamma=0.6)
gradient_palette_1 = displayio.Palette(OBJ_WIDTH)
for i in range(0, OBJ_WIDTH):
gradient_palette_1[i] = spectrum_1.color(index=i / OBJ_WIDTH)
# Create a second spectrum
spectrum_2 = Spectrum([0xFF00FF, 0x00FF00, 0xF0FFF0], mode="light", gamma=0.6)
gradient_palette_2 = displayio.Palette(OBJ_WIDTH)
for i in range(0, OBJ_WIDTH):
gradient_palette_2[i] = spectrum_2.color(index=i / OBJ_WIDTH)
# Create a third spectrum
spectrum_3 = Spectrum([0xFF00FF, 0xFF0000], mode="light", gamma=0.6)
gradient_palette_3 = displayio.Palette(OBJ_WIDTH)
for i in range(0, OBJ_WIDTH):
gradient_palette_3[i] = spectrum_3.color(index=i / OBJ_WIDTH)
# create a composite object of vertical lines each with its own palette index
for i in range(OBJ_WIDTH):
vert_line = Rectangle(
pixel_shader=gradient_palette_1,
width=1,
height=OBJ_HEIGHT,
x=i + 5,
y=5,
color_index=i,
)
primary_group.append(vert_line)
while True:
for i in range(OBJ_WIDTH):
primary_group[i].pixel_shader = gradient_palette_1
time.sleep(FRAME_DELAY)
for i in range(OBJ_WIDTH):
primary_group[i].pixel_shader = gradient_palette_2
time.sleep(FRAME_DELAY)
for i in range(OBJ_WIDTH):
primary_group[i].pixel_shader = gradient_palette_3
time.sleep(FRAME_DELAY)
Could just as easily created horizontal lines, diagonal lines, or concentric rectangles, circles or polygons, I suppose.
And this could be far easier when displayio.Palette and displayio.Group objects are sliceable rather than iteratively updated.
Confirms the notion that vectorio shapes can be used to build "standard" blank gradient shapes that are algorithm-generated then filled with the gradient palette. Changing the gradient colors just involves changing out or modifying the palette, not the bitmap.
Nice! Lookin Great!
With some memory-intensive display_shapes.circle objects. Not as efficient as vectorio, but it's possible to get circle outlines without the time consuming shape color fill process.
The minimum noticeable bezier curve needs three control points. Imagine one at the start, one at the end, and the third “pulls” the line into a smooth curve. (I think.)

ah
Still a lot of gradients
Yeah.... knowing how not to do something is useful, but not as fun as knowing HOW to do it
It’s pronounced BEH-see-ay BTW
Why is pronunciation so haaaard

current tim is always the smartest version.
A bunch of this could be done with ulab, I’ll bet.
… but not supported on all boards
Food is good
thank you for the compliments today cgrover, very gracious. glad it seems artistic. it's just not knowing how to get from A to B and making it work somehow.
ulab probably not on M0's? i think some M0's can do displays.
ulab not on M0 and MatrixPortal
so displayio is a good way to separate board tiers
Seeya!
Thanks!
thanks for streaming. the gradient stuff has a lot of applications for pretty text and graphics
Fun to hang out for a bit
cgrover and foamyguy setting up the future of displayio one contribution at a time. there's already so much they can do that i haven't had a chance to touch yet. great work guys.

Hello
@haughty quiver can those 5×6 mx key sheets be combined with others? My keyboard design need at a min 8×25 to a max of 10×30. So i would have to add sheets to eachother both horizontally & vertically.
@charred lion are you asking as far as how to matrix the switches or mechanical spacing?
(or both)
(or neither)
Adding one matrix to another
☃️
Both vertically & horizontally
I understand the key position issue but not the neopixal issue
Needing some bling for my QT for Christmas.

Hi all
"Five by five"? Oh I know how this goes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dXc2W1uWck
Did you know you can save yourself a few keystrokes by using adafru.it/productid?
Can you stack 3, using A3, A2 and A1? 🙂
As most of the pins are purely structural, you needn't solder ALL the pins...

yeah this BFF with a ESP32 QTPy is a great combo
super cool @cinder wind - reminds me of one of the engines in the op1
yeah! It's a common tactic in Max or Pd too
A little too small for Conway's Game of Life.
Now I need a wearable MIDI synth. 😱
Neat board, ordered 2. How much air gap to leave between esp32-s2/ Pico and the BFF? Guessing the MCU shouldn't be in direct contact.
Using in an enclosure exposed to Pacific Northwest climate.
ahaha I do that all the time JP. "well this board works great, except I blew out pins 9 and 10, aahh I'll just sharpie them to indicate they're bad"

the header colors are a fun side effect but were not intentional
Cheers Adafruit team!

Bye everyone!
Thanks! Been wanting to get some of these.
thx JP!
dang, I just got two of those in the mail today (at full price)

1 left!
c'mon guys, it's so lonely. it needs a nice person to use it in a project!
Phew! I was so tempted, despite having absolutely no current use for them. (and I do have some QTPys kicking around)
Surely not literally "stacked" as the neopixels of lower boards will be obscured by the board above.

good morning folks!
Good morning :D
Good morning. ☕
Just an FYI, Kyo in Kyoshii is like Kyoto
Good boi!
ipad pro good usecase right there
You could probably out a honkin' big battery bank in there
Is there a correctly positioned magnet to turn off the screen? Awesome build. It’s gorgeous!
What could you put where the track pad is?
the last gif those rocky look things are Koco creatures
You might be able to wire the original keyboard and trackpad to a MCU for USB conversion, then connect to the iPad
If you fill your case with battery, the trackpad area could be a dedicated power monitor
design your own ultra thin keyboard could be fun for that
Got it. A thermal printer.
Could use some metal pieces as a counterweight instead of the battery
Or your extra batteries XD
I think Rii has a bluetooth version of that particular keyboard...
mmm handle
Could add fancier speakers -- I think the iPad can connect to USB speakers
Via a hub
That is a thing of beauty. Bravo. 👏
Adafruit iFruit
I'm not an Apple fangirl, but iPads are the best tablets
Oh didn’t know it did proximity. I have one of those magnetic folding cases. Thought it was magnetic only. That’s good to know. 😁
pyportal with hotkeys
The trackpad that's in there can probably be hacked to be used :D it's likely a PS/2 trackpad
Ohh, I thought the Rii bluetooth was the same size as that
You might need to move the keyboard up or down a little, but I think the pencil will fit near the keyboard
fitting pencil for that case would be nice
I like iFixit
Had to drop a brim for a small part from 8 to 4mm. 8 is just excessive.
If you could get matching turquoise semi-transparent filament, that'd me beautiful
Got my Ender 3 s1 pro up and running. 3D printing is soooo amazing.
I haven't printed in months >~>
Pulling things apart is always easier than putting things together...
If you wanted to get REALLY fancy, you could make some small holes near where the buttons are and design a hinged button with a spring that pushes into the iPad buttons
Apple engineering is nuts in general... While I hate the cost, I love how thought out things usually are
Maybe add some little rubber straps for the corners that keep the iPad in place
some ninjaflex to corners
How many sleeps...
I have no sleeps
Super short Stemma QT cables would be nice... like, 5mm
Stack the countdown displays and have countdowns to ALL the things
What was Whippersnapper again?
Pico W is $6
From Adafruit
$5 at Micro Center
printing the transparent prism what magnify screen
picow in wippersnapper is awesome.

Howdy folks 👋
Good evening
Hey Y'll
Hello!
hey folks! here's the streamyard link
Good evening everyone.
evening all!

hi everyone
"No mistakes; just happy little accidents"
dang I can't believe jepler's just showing his WiFi password
who would have thought his password was so guessable
That'll be particularly nice for people who don't have everything unhidden all the time
NeXT liked the rubber trim a lot XD
stylistic? From Jobs?
@robust horizon I thought I may have heard talk but is the CP wifi code editing available on the pico-w yet?
@nova totem It should be working but i haven't tested it myself. when scott got back the first thing he did was web workflow on pico w
python supports both single and double quotes. Does toml?
it's space music
Bleep bloops!
Very cool Liz\
@split gazelle Need more breadboards! And cool project
@delicate fractal no, only double quotes https://toml.io/en/ introduces the format and the official specification.
We support
- string values in double quotes
numberinteger values- only in the 'global table'
Cool I will try to give it a try. For some of my NeoPixel projects nice if I can edit them without having to haul a huge amount of pixels about
Nice, @split gazelle !
thanks folks!
@split gazelle I love the bleep bloops!
I see that single quotes are in toml but quite different to circuitpython single quoted strings. we don't support triple-quoted strings in toml either
Always impressed with you projects @split gazelle
great projects folks!
Oooh didn’t know that about Adafruit Debounce
Thanks everyone.
Here’s the link to that guide! https://learn.adafruit.com/u/joeycastillo/neopixel-christmas-tree-with-deep-sleep-and-lcd-featherwing/
Thanks for sharing all. Great projects
Thanks for the link! Also, C python 3.11 introduced a TOMLlib!
Thanks to all for sharing your time with us
@neat geyser Nice tree idea. My tree is plugged in and even with that a timer would be cool (cause face it I'm going to forget to plug/unplug it otherwise)
Great projects folks!
@neat geyser does your controller share power with the tree? If it's LiPo based, you could integrate the PID4712 fuel gauge and estimate your run time :D
I think the ESP32-S2 feather comes with a fuel gauge come to think of it!
Oh cool, that makes it even easier! Do you have a web interface too, or just the hardware interface?
What is the middle module?
Just the hardware interface, it’s only using the wifi to fetch time from adafruit.io
Prop-maker FeatherWing! Great for running a neopixel strip among other things 🙂 https://www.adafruit.com/product/3988
Thanks.
OK, I'm at the guide now.
You can use adafruit.io to control it then, right? I haven't actually used it yet
There is (pretty certain!) a guide on controlling neopixels via adafruit.io
There was also one to control neopixels using the #Cheerlights project
Nice. I might make myself my own NeoTree
It becomes addictive. I keep adding more lights to my place
Lol... I started making a string to go over my desk with 5W NeoPixels... replacing halogen bulbs
Hiiii JP!
Howdy all!
Hi JP have a good show
Good evening Mister Park
Is that Lars’s voice?
🙂
Lars is casting an evil spell on us!
i love this bop
I want this track. Is it on a SoundCloud?
@haughty quiver is giving John Waters with that stache
JP, has anyone mentioned you look like Howard Stark?
Any plans for Adafruit to sell a 5GHz WiFi compatible breakout?

Perhaps someday, someone will make one, maybe from the ESP32-C5. Could 2.4 GHz work for your project? It has better range, and lots of options.
A photon checks into a hotel and the concierge asks if he has any luggage. He says "no, I'm travelling light."
Lars have unlimited power
I'm retiring 2.4GHz because it causes noise on the speakers I use.
That’s odd, since 2.4 is also used by BLE.
And microwave ovens.
I'm going to make an adventure game on the QT Py RP2040 with the NeoBFF!
Maybe shielding the audio system would help? I’d do an internet search for WiFi interference on audio for clues.
Will there be a pick this week ?
old times you was able to get some anomaly sound on speakers before phone started ringing

Years ago I had a Radio Shack wired intercom, and my wife told me she heard strange people talking on it. I thought she was crazy for months until I heard it myself. I don't know how, but it was picking up Electric company radio transmissions.
@unkempt shoal This discussion might help:

kevin does really nice projects and write-ups
i'll need to look into that vhs project
Same
I'm currently working on a Thermostat that I intend to port the Adafruit_GFX lib to be able to print on HTML5 Canvas. Custom fonts on Canvas is difficult, so I'll be converting GFX Fonts into SVG symbols.
some still want videos on VHS
I'd love to see that in a feather wing
That would make a good interconnect cable for a split keyboard.
if only there were a 300 mm cable
@unkempt shoal maybe this approach could work for you:

that's such a cool display
Such clever lowercase s!
How much mos could a mosfet fet if a mosfet could fet mos?
https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/product-files/5648/5648_ds_AO3406.pdf i'm not sure but here is the datasheet if that's helpful
What is a mosfet
a fet with mos(s)
Like Boba?
Metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor
I think
Thanks, I wasn't 100% sure of the S
Bass (How Low Can You Go)
A mosfet is a switch that can be abused to be an amplifier unlike a BJT which is an amplifier that can be abused to be a switch.
Looks like there’s a learn guide (which I need to read, too!)
Jeez, I thought I was going deaf till you said that
this is so cool
I’m gonna call it a Snar from now on.
I shall build this
does JP have a soundcloud page?
I'm sure they are momentary. Toggle in the code.
I might make this with cheap tactile switches and LEDs
@haughty quiver I’m loving this segment display trying to do lowercase. What library are you using to do these letters?
I'm thinking a neokey 5x6
From 80's rock to EDM - so cool

yeah the Brooklyn drumkit in Garageband is good
Garageband for iOS is even more impressive.
Garage Band is free on all Apple devices, right?
Yes
Nice
yeah Garageband is remarkable capable on the iPad
yay for gels
The phone UI is great too.
LED plastic would work too
I need to get gels
My gel supplier (Active Surplus) went out of business a few years ago.
TAP Plastics has color, smoky, and reflective plastic film by the foot.
iOS also bought a third party program that allows you to chain apps as sound sources, effects, recording sinks, etc. with low no latency. It's built into the OS now. (full disclosure iOS dev.)
Ooh nice tip on filter sample book!
These gels have worked well for my LED projects: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CCIKB5Q/
I nearly flung solder into my eye X.x thankfully it just hit my face...
Oooof
pain
I use magnifying lenses when I solder, which gives me a little protection as a bonus
I did NOT expect splash while desoldering
@teal river YOCTOSUN Head Mount Magnifier... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H8808H6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
JP upgraded from 7 to 14 segments... 28 segment display when?
A couple times a year they go on sale for $11
@noble grove Gonna tell people these are my Apple AR goggles
Unfortunately I can't see with magnifiers DX I have to hold things too far back
Yeah, then any safety glasses would be good. I’m older, so magnifying lenses work great
This will protect the rest of your face
I need to be wrapped in bubble wrap
This project has a bunch of nuggets that will likely be applied to things in the queue... Thanks!
