Disney worlds and Final Fantasy worlds are all a part of one big, for a lack of a better term, multiverse
You mainly follow Sora, a nice kid from a small island as he travels through this multiverse for plot reasons. He cares a lot about his two human friends from the island (one of which has a "oh im evil now, nope im not" character arc, the other is a love interest) and he mainly travels with Donald (Duck) and Goofy. Donald Duck is one of the strongest mages in all of Final Fantasy canon, when you look at his accomplishments.
There's an evil guy doing time travel and body hop shenanigans, which is responsible for most of the "this guy is the same as this guy but not the same as this guy" memes and sometimes people have a... "copy" made, which has their name rearranged+ an X (Sora-> Roxas). That's why there's so many X names that seem similar. These folks form Organization 13.
Also there used to be a whole organization of keyblade wielders and the like, but there was a war and the evil time travel guy also did some bad things but that came later.

A keyblade is a sword but it's a key, it's Sora's (and tbh, most original character's) primary weapon

Also, every single game is canon (there are no true spin offs), including a defunct gacha
They made a different mobile game app into a cutscene gallery so that story is at least still accessible, but it can overall be kinda messy.

Having recently seen another videogame adaption starring Jack Black I'm skeptical.
