With a lot of practice and patience. You have to learn to stop playing "call of duty style", as I call it. The tempo of this game is much slower. Slow down and look deeper into your field of view. CoD gets you in the habit of only watching close, HLL you need to look deeper.

You also just have to play a bunch, learn the maps, learn how to predict enemy movements, watch the map a lot, listen to your team a lot. The best advice I ever got was "watch tutorial videos" lol the second best advice I got was to just follow the obvious veteran players into the action.

It's recommended to first download it, then install it and then press play. Usually that's where most people start.

After that find any 70+ player server that has good ping and isn't labeled as "HLL official". No normal people play official servers, because they have no moderation or rules.
So find any community server where the previous conditions are met.

Then simply join, pick a side, find a squad with some space in it and join it.
Proceed to take ANY role that is not a squad lead position. (So don't take Squad Lead, Spotter, Commander (level locked) and Tank Commander)

Then just talk to people in the squad using C (by default) and play the game. @tranquil saddle

Youtube's filled to the brim with pretty decent tutorials if need be. There's also some detailed info in #1273828697941606450.

Usually if it's something in the heat of the moment, just ask the people in your squad. As long as you don't sit silent like a bozo, everyone's gonna be super helpful.

Otherwise you can always ask more questions in here and we'll help you out.

Play the game a whole bunch. Meet people that are on your own wavelength. Add them in your friends list, hit them up. After playing a while together maybe make a steam chat and invite them all.

That's literally how I did it. Now I have a group of 9 that play together nearly every night, everyone knows what each other is good at.

Another tip if you want a solid foundation of active players is to try and play on one or two main community servers where you like the rules and plugins they have.

Since this isn't some fortnite 2025 dogwater (at least not in this aspect), community servers truly consist of a ✨ COMMUNITY ✨ .
So after a while playing in one place, people recognize you and team up together frequently.

Even if you don't sit on their discord servers or anything

Most if not all community servers are fine. Can't give any specific recommendations for NA, since I'm EU myself.
But in any case, the logic is as follows:

Official servers are worse than community since they have no moderation as well as no rules. People there are complete bozos.
Community servers are all fine, as long as you like the rule sets and plugins yourself. (For example, I like THE CIRCLE on EU, since they give VIP to good players for free. So I get essentially infinite VIP.)

During the day even in community servers it's complete RNG on how good the game is. But you can increase the probability of better, talkative games by simply playing on community servers during peak times.

I have a problem since installing the game. I've played 2 rounds so far and after round one it said I was level 7 and the next game it reset to level 1 and said I was level 4 after. Now after starting the game again I have 0 progress. Is this a known bug or am I singleton.

I've tried some fixes online like hiding and unhiding the game and checking for file integrity maybe someone new has the same issue and has a fix.

hey folks, I'm considering getting this game. Are the support and engineer roles fun to play? I enjoy playing logistics and support roles in team games (e.g. 'logi' in Foxhole).

Logi isnt nearly as important as in foxhole. You mainly need to use supplys to build garrisions, which is the job of Squadleads and the commander to do. I like to play support because you can place explosive ammo boxes for AT to refresh at or have fun with the best weapon the game, the flamethrower🔥.

Havent played that much engineer in my time... You rarely need to build defenses and with a satchel (which half of a squad can have) they go down very fast. In my opinion not really worth to build defenses, but what do I know...

While this game has a lot of mechanics but none of them are very deep or require nearly as much coordination and times as in foxhole.

HerWilles has great points. I enjoy playing Support because there is always a need for supplies, whether to build garrisons, structures, or give ammo with the 3rd level setup.

As for Engineer, it's a vital role in terms of building nodes for commander to do his abilities. The more supplies he has from nodes, the more he can do his abilities. I enjoy being able to be a satchel engineer and blow up tanks... or be the base engineer and support a tank with constant repairs.

It's a torch for repairs. You can also build a repair station for the tank to sit next to and repair.

Why my weapon wont fire some times when i ADS at the enemy? Is a bug? It only happens when i m using bolt action weapons (so far). Is there a fix or something?

Yeah its a 🐛 unfortunately.. It happens when you shoot ~1-2 seconds after activating steady aim (SHIFT) when ADS'd causing the next shot to not fire. The only way to fix it is to re-ADS. I've reported it, but the more the merrier https://discord.com/channels/316459644476456962/1242767547321942036

Well. Newer players tend to screw around instead of playing the game properly.
So if you join a place where there's only people who are screwing around what kind of game can you truly play? Or what can you learn from them? Not a whole bunch.
Whilst it's not always the case, obviously. The tendency for the games to be poor in quality is quite big.

So instead, my recommendation, is to play on any community server that you can (so there isn't a level requirement), simply jump in any squad, don't take leader positions and be talkative.
If you state that you're new and don't take Squad Lead (SL) positions, ain't nobody gonna have any issues.
Then any questions that pop up (stuff like "Hey, what are those generating thingies above the map?") you can ask in your squad. If they can't give a decent answer, ask in here.

There's no one way method of getting gucciest of games and best of communicative squads. It's all about probability.
So if we talk probability, your best chances of having a good time, learning stuff and playing properly in this game that we all love and hate is the following:

• Community servers and NOT official ones.
• No special level requirements
• Join any squad, just don't be a SQUAD LEADER (So no squad leader, spotter, tank commander or normal commander)
• Be talkative
• Ask questions
• Play closer to peak times (if possible). Middle of the day games are quite RNG in their good-ness as well.
• Profit

You cannot dispute this, you cannot argue against it. It's been tried and true, confirmed by hundreds of exprienced players over the years.

Any server with "new players welcome" is exactly that, there's no servers with level caps, but there are minimum requirements.
In all servers you're gonna get sniped from a long distance by anyone who's not a donut.

They theoretically do increase the chances of better games, but that list was more meant for the newer guys in #new-recruit-barracks.
Often you see that even in like Circles 75+ on peak times, people around lvl 120 get an ego that they're super good, thus start making the same beginner mistakes they made at lvl 30.
Also when it gets too sweaty, when whole clans decide to jump in the 75+ servers, it just ends up being not fun for the majority. Since it's not so much a strategy game as it is an exploit game.

Might I ask what specifically are you looking for in a discord server of such type?

Cause I mean any and all clans accept anyone essentially. So as long as you find a community server you like, they have a discord you can join and ask whatever, look at whatever or join their clan as a whole and play near peak times together.
But besides that, I don't think we have any specifically "for new players" discord servers. But even if there was one, what would be the point of it?
Asking game-related questions to other non-experienced people is pointless, so it's better to ask here.

Veterans are perfect for newer servers to assist in Command chat. There are a lot of mechanics and tricks that you can only learn from a lot of hours in the game

No statistics on that via the CRCON, but not be able to have a proper spawn is the biggest problem with lower levels only. It's almost a guarantee on such a server leading into steam rolls because it takes your team 10 minutes to build 1 relevant garrison.

No support is a good roll. When I SL I always make sure I have 1 support in my squad

Support is a good role when there's teamwork involved the supplies for garrisons or AT guns, ammo boxes for feeding the MG suppressive fire, and explosive boxes for rockets, frags or smokes are incredibly useful but when there's no teamwork there's not much use to them

Every Squad leader loves having someone running support. The most unnecessary is medic and rifleman (only because he doesnt have any special toys though).

The Support role will be getting a buffed final loadout in the next update (flamethrower will instantly destroy nodes!).

Generally speaking, support isn't all that bad for the GER and US factions. Having a box handy at all times can really help shift the tides of a warfare match or get up an ad lib. AT gun (possibly some barricades to help jump over high walls too)

Levels are completely irrelevant to gameplay mechanics such as taking damage or dealing damage.
Either you were playing on a EU server from China or there's some skill issue that isn't accounted for within this described piece of context

Keep the communications clear and precise in command chat. It's a lot to balance between your squad and command. Be sure to mark tanks and enemy garrisons for your team (unless commander marks it, otherwise your team doesn't see the other officer marks)

Get that Outpost up and update when possible (there is a small cool down but it's not bad)

When you have bought the game you get 2 Versions of it. One which is the "live" Version which is just called Hell Let Loose and the Test server which the devs use to host new maps to test them with more people at once.

You currently only need the "live" Version, because there is no PTE at the moment.

Its a small path between being bad and just having diffrent preferences. I for my part always hate building in fortnite, which is why I didnt play it at all, but liked the cool movement and gunsmith in CoD. This game was never cool for me because of the guns or the gameplay, it is so nice because you play it together as a Team. Tanking with some chill people will just always work for me.

At the end it doesnt really matter what your KD is as long as you had fun and didnt ruin the experience for someone else with bad intensions.

The game isn't focused on kills, the least useful classes are the ones that are just for killing and nothing else. Getting 70 kills won't get you as much XP as just capping points all game will

Having 4k hours in the game, I would actually encourage new players to focus on the shooting mechanics before anything else.

So yes - focus on your K/D and enjoy the immersion of the game! (This of course means being observant and not just running around each map per se.)

Then becoming an officer, or higher responsibility role, will ensure that you can "hold your own", instead of just being a garry placing drone once you've picked up a majority of the game.

The upcoming map, Tokruk, is predominantly designed for urban combat, which would generally mean that you need to be a good shot in order to be successful and actually enjoy yourself.

It seems like everytime I join a game the squad leaders and commander have beef and one or the other gets kicked and then the team falls apart, is this the norm when joining official servers?

Pro tip, dont play on the official servers.

I have found having a solid commander and squad leader is key. Things rapidly fall apart without.

Just learning the rifleman class and medic currently. But I’ve seen good leaders and not so good 😆 .
