stick with your infantry, dont push too far from them

without infantry you are just a walking artillery

So often you'll see a tank drive off into no man's land and then cry that infantry didn't protect them.

If your inf gets wiped, leave. If your inf aren't pushing an area, don't go there

It all comes down to situational awareness.. then its experience in doing it.

There is no real answer to stop dying to at players. Tips to stay with spawn points and inf are always bad advice. Are the officers communicating well or at all? yes or no depends on how Inf is gonna be useful or not. Sticking with spawn points is never gonna do you any good bc in HLL one of the funniest things are people crying enemy cheating bc garrys are going down (they are always put in easy to find and obvious locations so dont use them as a safe zone its actually worse imo unless you need help repping and u have coordinated an engineer to come and assist.

Learn the tank - Learn the map - Learn the situation and one of the MOST important is gain chemistry with the tank crew. Me and my friends just know 98% of the time what we wanna do and how we react to most things also knowing how to operate the tank ... having that Chain of Command (no matter what role u are if you are in the spotter seat YOU ARE IN CHARGE)

So if you are new to the game honestly just keep getting blown up but try and work out why you did too.

Okay so, I am a fairly "new" and I wondered if there are any servers that I should look out for, like learning friendly or if there are servers that I should try to avoid until I really get the hang of the game?

There are servers labeled "NEW PLAYER FRIENDLY" and thus on. It doesn't matter too much really.
The main thing you should try to avoid is taking squad lead (inf/tank/recon) or commander till you get a good grasp of wtf is going on.

Besides that, if you ask plenty of questions and use your mic, you should have the experience about the same on all community servers.
If you play during peak times on those normal servers you have a significantly higher chance of getting in more decent squads where you'll learn more and that can explain better. Or at least have some decent banter to make it more fun.

Nah' the server don't matter. The only main thing is to not play on "official" labeled servers, they're a shi' hole

As long you use a mic, you'll get decent squads on any community server

There is a fov slider you can use if you need it. Different peeps play on different values, personally, I have it stock for all my game time.
Spotting enemies? Not much, mainly just brightness if you're playing a night map or something. Otherwise it's just clocking the hours and adapting your eyes.

Official servers are good for learning but as you get more into the game there is less experienced Commanders, Squad Leaders, and Tankers in official servers because there is no dedicated clan support if there are issues or to stop rampant cheaters. You are by far more likely to run into issues on an official than you are on a community ran server! Plus you're more likely to find someone willing to help you learn or at least communicate in game.

This isn't so much a kda game, it's a control point with kills helping that.

You can find some guides on how to play in #1273828697941606450 but as a general, move slow and use cover to move between. Flank on pushes to give another angle of attack.

Grenadier for Russia is probably the best kit. You get four frag grenades and two smokes, as well as explosive ammo. The molotov for flamer is unique but not really useful in any way.

Probably the same answer for Britain, more grenades is useful. The difference between them is the trooper class gets explosive ammo.

For britain if you want to help your AT's you'd be better off using trooper, if you want to be slightly more offensive use grenadier. It's situational.

Go in a new player server or an official one. In both cases, the majority there are not playing seriously anyways.
In proper community servers at peak times, I don't recommend it, since by any stretch of the meaning, you are not experienced enough to properly play commander or anywhere near.
And before you ask "how can I learn if I don't play it?"
Simple. Play all the other roles. Then you'll learn how to SL and when you learn to SL, you'll also see how commander is played, whilst also getting a grip on the strategies. And if you don't understand them via the map, just ask people via comms.

You'll find a lot of guides online with people recommending a bunch of different launch options, none of them really do anything. The only one that really does anything in HLL is -dx12 as pointed out. You can try it out, but be aware that it's not officially supported. For most people it works "fine". Generally people report getting better frames at the cost of more frequent micro-stutters.

Seeding is getting people on the server to a certain number (25- 35 per side depending on the server) to get more people to join.

Generally they have rules like fight only over mid point, no tanks, etc etc.

So once someone randomly trying to find a server see 60/100 (we'll see 29/31 on both side) they'd be like "oh! Space to join and people are joining!" that they'll also join.

But almost all community servers, especially the well known ones (at least in the EU) like 82AD, PBS, The Circle and ExD (kind of) significantly increase your chances of getting those games. Even more so if you join during peak playing hours.

because the maximum number of people who can queue for one server simultaneously is 6

so join up servers that aren't that full yet

when you also click on a server a small tab of details show up, you can see "people in queue (_/6)"

that's when you know if you can join up or it will give u the queue is full message

Also knowing the maps helps so very much there are some pretty defined lines of approach that funnel a lot of people along (like the nearest roads/lane between two friendly controlled points people will freely run along those on auto pilot until they get to the "front")
Also if you can see fortifications or ridges on the map near to friendly forces and of there is a noticeable lack of friendly forces on those fortifications then just assume is half the enemy army is packed into them.
A lot of this stuff just comes as game sense once you know how the average match on any given map progresses its easier to notice when things are going badly wrong and where it might be coming from.

I've never heard of "VIP seeding" however. What you/they probably mean is that you can earn VIP as a reward for seeding, which is something most servers have. Lets you bypass the queue when the server's full.

If you have VIP and join a queue, it bumps you to the front of the queue normally. Some servers have reserved queue spots meaning that it will hold x amount of spots for VIP. In that case, you would join the game right away.

Servers can configure slots that are reserved for VIPs. Worth noting that once a VIP joins, they will not keep occupying that slot: As soon as a player leaves, they move into a regular slot, freeing up the reserved slot again. If no reserved or regular slots are available at the time of joining, you are put at the front of the queue, assuming it is not full already. If it is, well, too bad, try again.

There is only 1 queue. However there can be X number of reserve spots for VIP. If there is 6 reserve spots for VIP, the first 6 VIP's in queue get in the game.

Bottom line is, VIP lets people join your server instantly. Set the number of reserved slots to one, and increase should VIPs frequently experience being unable to join because the queue is full.

In most cases a single reserved slot is enough, only once you add many VIPs is there a large enough likelihood that multiple try to join around the same time and end up contesting the same reserved slot

Only two recon teams are available, and you have to h ave a spotter in the recon team for you to join as sniper.

Either you gotta be/load quick, or have a friend get that spotter spot for you to snipe.

A lot of the time it's also a locked squad because they are waiting for someone to join to let them snipe (or sometimes they join, the spotter leaves the squad and the 2nd person takes the spotter spot for the 1st person to be sniper)

If you're new just play anything as long as it's not a leader position such as squad lead, spotter, tank commander or commander

Beyond that, pick whatever, be talkative and you're gonna have a blast

You can also always check your kill efficiency in the scoreboard by just seeing your combat score go up or the bottom left click "personal stats" where it shows actual kill count etc.

So most of the time, let's say you're playing germany, you know a quick burst of like 3-4 bullets will do the trick and you hear multiple hitmarkers.
Or hitting twice with the US browning or whatever it was called

90% of times it comes down to that, because no one else does it

Also think deeply about when you use stuff like recon planes, strafing runs and bombing runs.
Don't over-do any of those as well as reinforces and airheads.

For example:
If you do a recon plane, think about what information will you gain from that and whether or not it was worth the resources. Doing a recon plane at the start of the game, just to find out the enemies coming to mid point from one the most common garry spots, ain't gonna be any good. It'll just be a waste.

Same goes for something like a strafing run. They're quite costly. If you're doing it for kills, can you guarantee like 5+ kills in one strafing? If not, maybe reconsider. Or if you're using it to clear a back-line defensive garry, do you really need that garry cleared in that second? Cause maybe you'll kill the recon trying to dismantle it, but they'll be back in like 30 seconds anyway, so the strafing run will have been a waste.

Always keep a surplus of manpower so you can do encourage the second it's available.
Also try to keep your supply drop on rotation as well.
There's always a place on the current enemy objective or the next one where some supplies would be good to have, so drop them when you can.

Example illustration: Pink being the recon plane and the mid point is Hospice, still neutral

Like the two red dots are the MOST 1000% guaranteed garry spots in every game.
Doing such a recon plane only to find out that "Wow! The enemies attacking mid point at the start of the game!" is completely idiotic and gives no benefit to you, or your team.

The only kind-of-ish reason to do it, would be to find out whether or not the tanks are there, but infantry will quite quickly relay that info anyway.

This is an example showcasing the point layout of Vaulaville and Western Approach and the locations where you, as commander, could fill supplies, even whilst still fighting in/around mid point.

My goal is to make it clear to the infantry that like 70% of supply drops will go red zone for recons and flankers to use and the remainder 30% will be to fill spots where there are no inf squads near by such as back garries or "Oh sheeeet! We need a garry there ASAP!" garries.

Cause there's no reason to drop supplies on a blue point if there's like 6 inf squad OP's around. They can get a support. And if they can't, it's on them.

For public matches, in my opinion, the commander should make themselves available to adapt. Every match is different and sometimes you'll just have no support boxes at all.

You just have to go with the flow and try to make the game fun for everyone, win or loss

Or change server if it's not your thing having lots of newer players

Oh for sure. Most of the time anything in blue can be set up by yourself as command just using a truck. That goes for 90% of back garries etc. Just have to be in the right spot at the right time.

Given certain circumstances ofc I would drop on point as well, such as, knowing the enemies doing a bombing run and the chance of the garry being destroyed is high, then I can use my ability to have supplies on the spot w/o having support swap delays.

I make it very clear to the SL's that they should have supports in their squads and be communicative. Rather ask a question, than to screw it up. That's the whole reason we have command chat in the first place.

That being said, if I keep dropping top of the line supplies both for attacking and defending and they simply do not build anything, then it's purely on them, no matter if new or not. Stupid is stupid end of discussion there.

Same goes for getting a request denied, then crying in team chat that commands bad, because you (the X player) are a moron and asked for a medium tank on Kursk whilst the enemy has a heavy on the field.

That's okay, maybe 2/3rds of the time.

A lot of servers may require lead positions to have microphones because it's best to call stuff out to pass information versus the chat function. Some people do have the chat function not showing.

But as long as you ping stuff and communicate with chat, and follow your squad lead, you should be okay over all.

Even if you go get a cheap $10 microphone, better than nothing. Doesn't have to be expensive.

Still, some squads may require you to communicate.

You pinging may be a tank, infantry, or a vehicle... but I don't know unless you either say or type. Talk is quicker.

When I play Spotter (recon squad lead), you don't have to be a good sniper or get lots of kills... but I require a microphone at minimum so we can easily communicate what we see.
