It is yes, but only assuming other priority roles such as AT and support are filled.
There's exceptions to that ofc, but generally you want those filled before you go and "just shoot enemies"

Overall, my role priority would go something like:
SL
Support (preferably with explosive ammo, but can live without as well)
AT (bazooka, not a satchel)
Machine gunner (with mg)
Engie (after making nodes and with a satchel)
Assault (preferably with satchel, but most people won't have it, which is fine)
Automatic rifleman
Rifleman
Medic

First 4 can easily peak in their effectiveness with even base kits. I don't recall how far along was it in the levels to get engies satchel, but if it's accessible then deffo should be taken.
Assault is a very high ask for public games to have a satchel unless they're some bob the builder peasant, then I might as well kick them just for that.
Everything after engie is essentially just "go kill stuff".

Also, don’t be afraid of bob the builder servers. It is cringe to farm career level, but some kits like assault 9 are very important, and would take 1000 hours to unlock naturally. Anyone who hates on it is a nerd.

There’s no pride to be had in choosing to farm out 100 warfare games for a satchel load out. Requiring more hours than most people will ever put in to get on the kits is a T17 failure. Bob the builder to get kits is a response for people with a life who want to try out the loadouts

Now cosplaying as a level 300 with a dozen real games played is loser behavior. I don’t believe it is common however.

Yeah it's the pure fact of having another satchel in the squad that makes it so op, not even mentioning the STG for Germany. It's just ridiculously strong.
Which is exactly why I believe it should be locked behind some serious progression. Whether or not that progression is too long currently is a valid thought to have, but to exploit around it is not okay.

The only reason it's so hard right now is because Assault only benifits from those direct kills.

Sure it is. Limited loadout selection is the biggest issue with new player lobbies. Do you know how free tank gameplay is when people haven’t unlocked satchel? Imo all kits should be available within 10 hours

The only necessity you MUST have is the ability to deal with tanks, which I believe the AT role should be capable doing at base level in a decent manner, aka the base bazookas/launchers.
Satchels are nice to have, but you don't need them to have a proper squad and good efficiency within that squad.

Cause you can strip all kits from the game and the only issue you'd see is that Soviets can't deal with german tanks, besides that, everything would play out normally.

It’s rare. I’ve only had to do it once or twice. It’s also nice to work around limitations, sometimes I’ll join wrong side and they are nice enough to move me with my buddies and avoid 15 minute timer, stuff like that

I guess the real reason community servers are cool doesn’t really show right now. Each one has regulars so you know what you are getting, usually high game quality with lots of mics. It’s diluted right now though.

It’s nice recognizing people and knowing if they are capable off rip, who is willing to work with you, who to focus or they will farm your team, etcetc

I promised yesterday to try a match or two of HLL Official servers, here's a summary on how that went (yes I did write it up):

The official servers were really terrible, far removed from the teamwork and strategy that make the game shine. Whilst many of the further listed things can and will happen on community servers, there's an overall higher chance that they do not happen. On top of that most servers have specific rules around solving these issues, so administration can give a nudge if they get broken. For example, not having SL's that speak. Ofc it varies on when you play etc. but it's not even close compared to this.

As commander in a full warfare game on Hurtgen, I quickly realized how chaotic the server was. Out of eight infantry squads, only two communicated, and just one had any idea what to do. Recon squads were completely ineffective. They failed to spot enemies, build garrisons, or flank—essentially ignoring their core responsibilities and contributing nothing to the team

Infantry squads were equally disappointing, mindlessly charging objectives without considering flanking or strategy. The situation got so bad that I, as commander, had to personally walk the entire flank to set up garrisons for attacking squads. This was a task that should have been handled by recons, but was neglected entirely. Infantry also didn't do it after specifically asked.

The artillery players added another layer of frustration. They weren’t squad leaders, so there was no communication with the rest of the team. They repeatedly shelled friendly troops, leading to chaos and even team-killing as frustrated players retaliated. Efforts to communicate with them were ignored.

Adding to this surreal experience, low-level players flooded the chat with terrible advice, trying to tell me how to play commander while clearly lacking any situational awareness themselves. The match devolved into a mindless loop of spawning, shooting, and dying, with no strategy or teamwork to speak of.

In contrast, community servers offer a higher % chance of a proper game fixing many of these issues naturally or simply having direct rules to stop people from messing about, providing more structured, cooperative environment where players understand and fulfill their roles. If you value strategy, immersion, and a true Hell Let Loose experience, steer clear of official servers. They’re a chaotic mess. I'll try a few more games closer to peak EU times, but I honestly doubt it'll change anything xD
But again, any of those things can and will happen on community servers throughout a day, it's just that the chance is way lessened.

that won't bother doing anything but spawn an MG/Assaulter.. etc and just care about K/D
while new players like me, sets nodes, becomes SL or even commander because none wants to step up

but none wants to bother taking commander and only 1 of 5 SL bothered to talk

also, any idea why each time i open the game, i get my settings reset

while there are matches in which we just stomp the enemy nearly for the same reason

There's a proportion of all higher level people (let's say 180+) that are fake levels using bob the builder, which circumvents the proper way of leveling. Thus sadly, level is not always an indiciator of skill and knowledge.
Also at one point you kind of burn out a bit where you just want to go kill enemies, that's why I bet they just take mg or assault (although both can be used for anti-vehicle situations often as well given the correct kits).

Personally, I don't always take command either, because I know if whilst playing SL, the other Sl's are mute, then why would it be any better in commander seat? Usually it isn't. You put in 100% of the effort in command, the rest put in 30% and you end up losing the game.
From my experience, Commander only effects the game like 15-20% at best, after that it's all on the SL's and their individual squads to carry the rest.

Also your setting issue might be tied to the fact that your setting config is set to read-only so it cannot save anything. Maxim or one of the other mods might be able to ping you more accurately to where, but I think the fix was outlined in #1270189497719586908 somewhere.

It's a server that sits on 24/7 offensive, where the plugin automatically places everyone on the defender side so they auto-win.

Then 1 person drops supplies non-stop, whilst everyone else spam builds bunkers to get support score.

At the end of the timer you get insane amounts of xp cause of the additional % modifiers.

From my experience in 3 of 'em. For average weekdays, people just team up on discord, pick a server and play on it. The bigger clans even have one or multiple of their own servers they play on.
Within the clan people might sort themselves into groups on what they like to play more such as inf, tanks, recon, arty etc.

Usually once or multiple times per week certain communities host comp practice games, which is essentially just a default match with a specific rule set they enforce themselves, where people of many smaller clans sign up and get sorted into the two teams and squads. Those are "serious practice games" so to say.

So tldr, "divisions" are just bigger groups of players who often play together. Usually exceeding that of steam chat "hey wanna play"

My hot take is that knowledgable players do more for a win on SL/Assault than on commander, as long as someone takes the role. The enemy garries are never going to go down unless a knower does something about it

I gotta say, Im definitely not the most experienced in the game (lv 127), but my SL is already rank 10 and my command rank 7. I do them plenty, but sometimes I just want to run around with my thompson on assault and try to kill people. I still will listen to my SL and take orders (assuming he even talks), but point being, sometimes I just want to not have to worry about it and actually play the game a lil. It can be annoying that just cause someone is level 100+ that they are expected to take a leading position every single game

I've never experienced an admin enforcing any sort of playstyle or removing people from SL for not communicating. Is this common at all?

It sounds like most your experience is from being on servers with a much higher ratio of new players than anything

It's more about the people than about the admins. Veterans aren't quick to join any official servers because of the benefits of community servers, and as a result there's gonna be less veterans on official servers.

Server admins have long given up on doing any sort of manual management of squads and communication because not only has the standard dropped way too low for that, there's also no proper tools available for it.

The best they realistically can and will do is have a script look for squads with no SL, and keep warning them until someone switches.

I played two official and one clan server last night. The first official had a bad SL that wouldn't put down outposts and wouldn't respond or react to my mic. They were level 12. I switched squads and that one was fine. They were level 22. Commander seemed decent. Second server, commander was 108 and not listening to his SLs but was active in dropping supplies where he thought best and did plenty of recon. The SLs were between level 10 and 150 and did fine enough. Then on my final match on a non-official, the commander and SLs were all skilled but not talking all that much. My squad was talkative and good.

The point of that boring story to say I didn't feel my experience wasn't significantly different, and it's more about level/playstyle than anything. And I don't know if telling all new players to never play on an official server as particularly useful

What does it mean friendly danger close arty? Are they saying there is enemies near arty or arty coming towards friendly

They mean that the arty's about to land danger close to friendly units due to the possible deviation of the shells.
Usually either they shot at a place that just happens to be close to units, for example, defending the hardcap, they shell the opposite side of the hardcap, which can be dangerous OR they're shelling some safe position, but friendly units are heading straight for it, thus they call it so others can inform their squads.

Best practices is to place arty marker as the SL shooting the guns and preferably calling it out.
Then other inf SL's have the duty to somehow inform their squads on the area being shelled. Personally, I prefer placing an observer marker and calling it out as a dangerous place to be.

If such actions are taken, infantry can't cry that their shelling friendlies, since they've been warned.

You can just do the hashtag and start writing the name of the channel. Alternatively you can find the channel and right-click -> "Copy link".

It's a bit depending on permissions and I believe the dc server owner has to customize stuff somewhere in the server options. But really it's as easy as getting the invite link of the server and placing it in the message. It embeds automatically.

Yup, right on the dot.
In warfare each team has all 3 base tanks spawn in right at the beginning, that be recon, light and medium.

In Offensive they spawn for the defenders at either 3 or 4 minutes in on the dot, whilst for the attackers they only get the 1 tank that's corresponding to the first cap, but when the first point gets taken, the rest of their hq's open up, spawning the remainder of the server-spawned tanks.

only if they use them properly but during my whole experience it was them doing quick scopes, running and gunning and not actually playing as a sniper.

it literally forces you to stop some clases you enjoy.

as example it was impossible for me to play machine gunner. which I hated that.

if it would have been 1 headshot 1 kill I would be fine with snipers but it was 1 body 1 kill I remember or at least felt like it

so they were a nightmare. from medium range and close range.

but in fact. never saw a sniper that actually killed me from miles away

but there was tho 1 guy. so respect for that guy. the rest? gunning and running snipers

It wasn't even far away. let's say like from medium to short distances. it was like that for the whole experience. if it's not 1 shot 1 kill then maybe they did shoot me in the head all the time but christ. literally snipers makes the game unplayable.

• their role is more strategic than just shooting people
• there are max 2 snipers

so it really isn't an issue from what I been through here

I liked to defend points with Mgs so I would hold an area and relocate when there was no one Already

It's basically offensive but for Battlefield.
Attackers get an x amount of reinforcements/respawns, then they have to capture objective/s in a sector to advance and gain more reinforcements. They get 3 tries to breakthrough all the sectors, and if they fail one attempt, they always get reinforced with specialized vehicles like Airships, and Dreadnought Class Battleships. The defenders just need to hold out and drain the attacker's reinforcements.

Was a good game mode. Conquest the map was always a mess and no flow. Operations actually felt like a front line pushing against each other. Same as Breakthrough really. But from memory Operations was played over a couple of maps of the same relevance in the war.

I came here to ask this very question. For defenders on offensive, what's the rules about the tank spawning? I didn't have them in the list...then after a few minutes I did, but then after another minute they went away. Then later back again for good.

For defenders it's pretty simple. You have all the same rules as you do in normal warfare game.
So the default tanks spawn at those 3 or 4 minutes ( forgot which one, but in any case a bit AFTER the game begins).

As command you can spawn them whenever you have:
A) Enough fuel
B) Cooldown is done

Okay, well technically there is a:
C) The spawn location in the chosen HQ isn't obstructed by anything else (e.g. a supply box, a different spawned vehicle like a truck, tank, HT, whatever)

Or... I mean, also:
D) The vehicle cap on the map hasn't been reached

So if those 4 things check out, you can just spawn it

Basics:
Engineers can build and each costs 50 supplies.
To get supplies, 3 ways: support player (50 supplies), Supply drop (from commander - 100 supples) or a supply truck crate (150 supplies - two crates per truck, can be refilled in HQ)

As long as you're within 50m, you can build.

The nodes add 10 points per minute (or 20 with an encourage) to Manpower, Munitions, and Fuel. This adds up for commander to do different abilities , such as a supply drop or a reinforcement or dropping a heavy tank.

As for placing, it's recommended to do either in the HQ spots (while swapping between engineer and support) or JUST before the line between the 2nd and 3rd row/column (depending on the map being horizontal or vertical) Where you can drop a supply just past that ilne in the 3rd column/row and build in the 2nd column/row

This is recommended so that even if you lose all the points except the final, the nodes should stay up (unless taken down by enemies, usually recon)

the other thing is satchelling the garrison - it takes to do just as long as the dismantling, just with a possibility of a wave kill
and almost impossible to notice if placed well

Love the game, played it on and off over the years, recently wanted to get into it more regular but the sudden fps drops still happen occasionally for a pslit second and its annoying. Almost a lag type experience where frames drop for a split second, my friend had it too and heard some others experience it too. I have a 5900X and 3080 plus M.2 SSDs, just wondered if anyone else experiences this?

No worries mate, I have the stuttering and frame drops too, no matter if DX11 or DX12.
I have i9-10900K with RTX 3090ti, 64GB RAM, while the game is on an M2 SSD.
The game is pretty poorly optimised to start with. It used to run smoothly before like U13 or so (with the exception of Stalingrad map that originally used to be the only stuttering map).

Though if you mean a role or something medic is often the one people say to try first as it takes the focus off directly fighting and puts it onto getting other people back up while teaching you how to keep out of harms way (the medic dying means you cant help anyone else) though at the same time you only need a 10 min youtube guide to get you up to speed for pretty much any role and a 20 min one for SL and command

If you're in Steam, go to the top left to the menu, select VIEW then Game Servers. You make sure it's "Hell Let Loose" in the top right once that window opens. If nothing particularly filtered, it'll show everything.

why do i get time penalty when dying as artillery?

You get a +10 sec penalty every time you team-kill (TK). Chances are you team killed people with the artillery and when you died, you had to sit through that penalty.

i got the red message only once, and when the enemy recon sneaked up on me i kept dying like 3 times in a row and everytime i had the penalty

10 seconds is the normal death time after letting go.

You get 10 on top per tk.
So 20 for 1tk in that life, 30 for 2 tks etc.

You maybe tk'd one, first death had 20 seconds. And then each next death whilst fighting that recon or whatever, you had the normal 10 seconds which you get when you just normally play w/o any tk's

i think the enginner gets satchel charges in lvl 3, so its certainly a useful class for a few things

The team can have 3 of each node, and a single player can build 1 of each

Sometimes it depends on the game mode.

• Warfare Mode: Engineers are perfect to fortifying the midpoint, creating choke points or getting satchels onto tanks (in later loadout as you level)
• Offensive Mode: Engineers can build fortifications for most strong points and a lot of people are willing to help out. A bonus to it is that you can level up any class fairly quickly when doing it.

RE; Nodes. A total of 9 nodes can be built yeah like @gloomy grove said - 3 of each type. The cool thing about Nodes is that they generate passive XP for you if you built them. eg. get nodes down, then switch to Assault class to level like a mofo!

Here's a quick way to get up solo nodes in 5 minutes. No need to rely on having a supply truck btw! You'll find the resource Discord link there if you're interested also @distant flower

I only understand the "abuse" part. Looks like a vote kick for abuse was done on you, which is a default 1 hour ban from the server. You don't see the vote against you.

Yup, so my assessment before is correct. You were vote kicked. 1 hour ban from that server. Doesn't stop you from joining later or join another server. Sorry that happened to you, it sucks but happens randomly to people too because people can be petty

Not sure. Sometimes servers have set to kick for 1 hour for intentional TK. I just recommend not doing it.

Accidents happen but the game cannot tell the difference.
