#The new ships and their soullessness
1102 messages Β· Page 2 of 2 (latest)
I think that's what I saw though right? People essentially disliking the lack of uniformity in the factions.
Finding that all the ships become elim 1.5mils in spirit (not literally).
The document describes the 'rules' faction ships need to abide with, which is why we don't see things like Monolith ships with huge ion weapon systems (only use without prisms) etc.
No, it was more about pvp meta ships making it into career instead of ships that are more wacky (but unique) and less efficient
That doesn't mean ships in career should be useless but beautiful, but the ships were getting more and more efficient and some started looking more like pvp designs with a faction paint sprayed on top of it (cutting some corners here, sorry Im not native english)
That's what I said π
No, because you commented from the document I was pointing out, which is different from what this thread is about
Cosmoteer Built-in Guide and Requirements This document exists to help players build campaign-capable ships, as well as detailing all of the necessary facets to a given ship. Thereβs quite a few different needs that ships need to follow to be suitable for the campaign, and this document will l...
Yes, that's it!
Thanks!
I am the one that wrote it...
I think it is great!
I actually do read the lore you added to your ship designs btw. Even write up my own stuff for ships from one of my mods
Ah yeah I see this document
orbiters are a good thing in career
I'm happy people so consistently enjoy my lore
I think it's basically what I was talking about, except my view is perhaps it should be even stricter.
It does add extra flavor and backstory to what are otherwise painted 2D space lego ships
It doesn't even need to be very serious or something
Well of course, otherwise you wouldn't have written it π
lmao
2700 words of it
i still have
like 85% to go
: D going internally insane
Mind you, steam workshop does have a character limit, so if it is too long it won't even fit on your mod description page
(I know from experience -_- )
i would probably use a shortened version
yes u are right, if u would fight Ships in Career that are in a similar Price Range, u would go broke or fight way to close Battles. but there are still Ships that punch way above their Price Range when u consider the "average" Ship building-and Piloting Skills.
I'd actually remove this, you can do some funny and gimmicky ships like backup without it and I doubt the architects would create something that's just poorly built

I love Atropos, but it can be so easily kited/outmaneuvered that it isn't actually that bad, especially considering imperium is supposed to be the toughest faction to play against.
i dont like arguing with "Skill" or piloting Skills when its about Single Player.
I like Ships that are challenging to defeat, not frustrating. Nukes are extremely high Damage and RNG and they hardcounter Ships that most Career Players have, are Large Ships, because thats what they do, increasing the Size of Their Ship during the Campaign.
nukes aren't rng, they are able to be consistantly dodged
again u nugget argue with player skill which is not relevant for SP
it doesn't take much skill to make a kite, and have it kite beyond the range of the nukes
in battle it's like 1 button press
Not quite. You can distract both flak and PD with tons of junk fire. I've seen both types of PD choose to target small canon fire, HE missiles, etc. as nukes are barreling right for them. Dodging is more effective but any kind of debris or obstacles (asteroids, other ships, etc.) can throw off your movement.
If you find playing like that fun or interesting at all.
Why did you ping me, what message are you trying to convey. I don't know how to respond to π€ with barely any context and no explanation
if it dosent take much skill and can be consistantly dodged, why do some Dom/PvP Ships have Nukes π€
because ai do not use nukes the same way players do
it is as simple as that
its pointless arguing with u, u are unable to put your Self in the Situation of an average Career Player. but iam happy for u that u good at dodging.
unsurprising user description lol
o, sorry
forgor to turn off ping lol
wait shit I did it again
Damn this Thread is heated, I didn't know this renaissance existed when I left...
My man it's been 3 weeks
I didn't see the dates...
And damn...

I only sort of agree with this, as someone who plays a lot of career and makes good ships I like having harder ships to fight but I do feel like late game specialized pd/flak ships are needed to combat the absolute onslaught of missiles and nukes in late game.
For early game I very much agree, I don't think these new better ships shouldn't be in the game but I do feel like they should be used for more difficult encounters like roaming pirates or guarding storage pods or maybe some kind of elite contract that will give you a harder ship than most in the solar system.
I don't really play meta but if design your ship well no matter what design type or weapon choice you should be able to do well in career ( but again like I said heavy pd/flak in your fleet is needed for late game missile spammers regardless of your other ships)
against missiles and nukes, i wouldn't say pd and flak is the only solution, you could kite with rails, missile dodge and nuke dodge, ai isn't very skilled with piloting
yeah thats a bit more involved imo though you need to know how to kite and pilot well
its not too hard but the game doesnt really teach you how well
By the way discussion should ideally be funneled here for sake of actual change, as this current thread will be mostly ignored #1247857808066744401 message
Well this conversation is kind of over anyways, complaining won't fix the general dislike of modern ships I guess. I'm fine with them but I too prefer the older ones (Like ones from the Orion era and later) and I'd love if the new ones were less meta but that's about it.
Being "less meta" is vague and unhelpful advice
Okay then, what do you propose instead. Unlike me you actually have the power.
And you know what I mean by meta, optimal this, optimal that, typical layouts predominant in pvp ships
I do, yes, but that doesn't mean I know what constitutes those things, and more importantly why those things are bad
I gues I'll have to make a comprehensive document about the history of built-in ships (If ANYBODY would ever read that) because heck yes I am a dedicated lunatic.
Would that be helpful? Underlining what changed over their design iterations.
Or you could read the document I posted here and tune your advice to be clearer accordingly
Alright π
Should I lock this or leave it be?
Lock it for the sake of our minds
Please Lock this
i think it's great to show new players more advanced piloting techniques/building philosophies/designs that they would not be able to otherwise encounter or discover naturally - they see stuff works, they can copy it
i dont think locking would do anything, damage's been done
i'm no social expert
It would stop this thread being dug back up
Indeed
I think everything everyone wanted to say, has been said. Can always create a new thread if need be.
I wonder what this button does
@rocky quartz is it possible to block this thread?
I feel like this needs to be closed.
that doesn't really sound useful
i'm out of words of what exactly i'm trying to mean but
dont?
no use for
We don't lock threads & posts. However I can give out warnings to those that necropost for no good reason
π
the thread has gone into a purposefully dead state since all discussion moved and more of a offtopic suggestion channel if you stretch it enough
and people STILL don't use the one (of the two but the other is far gone) https://discord.com/channels/314103695568666625/1088884884338131014 of the real ones for random suggestion discusison
