I have way too many assignments backed up that I'm trying to do

the building grid will be at most 25x25 and people will have at minimum a week to prepare since my break starts Thursday

what I'm trying to get at is, don't expect to need to spend any amount of time over an hour to design a ship for this event (although it's not exactly a race in the same way the grand prix is)

again I'm very sorry I'm just going to fail my classes if I write the announcement now instead of my assignments which are admittedly much more important. A lot of these things are taking longer than expected.

• needs no energy to fire, only initially
• fires every second
• essentially a deck mounted ammoless emp
• emp effect is extremely punishing, as far as i can tell it doesnt even follow the "lightning rod" effect that emps do. It just... deletes the power
• emp effect is so big it can easily go through entire ships and disable the control room unless you specifically build a massive structure cage which isn't even possible on things that go near the edge of the build grid
• creates a massive explosion for some reason which makes it super easy to make squibs which just instantly shut down the enemy ship and suicide bomb

By not banning parts, you may literally have more options. but in practice, banning problematic parts increases the number of viable part options

and it's already been added to some mods

tuning the nerf is a lot harder and you likely end up with an equivalent to the scenario you listed

Even if you don't get far, you'll find out what your ship/piloting weaknesses are and how you can improve them

they can split nicely since its divisible by 2 but if you need to go 4 ways it can be really hard

No, thats how its supposed to go. If your setup takes really long, then you should get punished appropriately. You shouldnt bring something with long setup times to a tourney, if you are not confident, that its fast enough.

10 minutes is what I always thought was standard, the change in rules makes different ships more effective

5 minutes is a good time because in my experience the slower matches that don't have stalling usually last that long or a couple minutes longer

I've always been in favor of 5 minute matches

and I always hate when players make rod timer 30 minutes long (when it's not infinity, games can literally last for an hour)

Oh didnt see that. Im not a fan tbh. Some natchups actually do take that long, like avoider or rammer vs morbiter or anything vs the noob box. Id rather see the full fight, then a brawl on the rod.

But its not that big of a deal I guess

The 5 minute rod was also experimental to try to discourage stalling tactics while allowing the tournament to run a double elimination bracket (blind pick is really unfair with single elim especially with a cash prize on the line)

Avoider vs morbiter doesn’t have to be an ammo draining match right now anyways due to how strong avoider DPS can be, and TRL exists now to melt through the noob box. Other effective solutions exist to the long matches so we thought it was only fair to cut rod to 5 minutes to allow more players to participate that may not be available to play for exorbitant periods of time
