Why can’t consoles use mods in Ready or Not?

Consoles (PlayStation / Xbox) run in a closed system, which means you can’t freely change or add game files. Every bit of content has to be checked and approved by Sony or Microsoft for security and performance reasons (certification process).

Games like Skyrim or Fallout have mods because they were built with official mod framework and went through that whole approval process.
Ready or Not doesn’t have that setup, so unofficial mods just aren’t possible on console right now.

It’s not something Void can toggle on.
It’s a platform restriction, not a developer decision.

Why Unreal Engine 5 makes it even harder

Ready or Not runs on Unreal Engine 5, and that’s another big piece of the puzzle.
UE5 games are packaged using highly compressed and encrypted files, which consoles can’t unpack or modify without breaking certification rules.
Even if Sony or Microsoft allowed external content, UE5’s structure would need a dedicated modding pipeline built directly by the developers and that doesn’t exist yet.

I asked this question on the Steam discussion page, but didn't get an answer from the community there. My hope is that some people here will be able to help me out.

About a year ago, this really talented mod author (PaperBoatHat) made two map mods: Sanctum's Deciet and Lustful Remorse. When the game was updated to its release version, these two maps were uninstalled from my copy of RoN. Does anybody know if I can find these map mods somewhere today? I really want to reinstall them and play them again.

Uninstall is impossible because steam only adds and removes game files and nothing the user adds.

In any case the maps would not work and cause your game to crash, as the game was updated multiple times. If you wish to find these maps I recommend nexusmods, if the creator didn't update them, then you can't use them

u do have an in game mod menu, if u manage to make it fully in game instead of mod.io i can 100% see mods working for console easily

look at the mudrunner series on consoles, it all has a mod menu similar to ready or not

And i never read any of that about ANY mod.
If a mod doesnt work, theres a window that says "something something corrupt files". But straight up black screen and crash without anything? Nah.

So the black screen was when i first booted it up after putting the file into the PAK folder.
Had to manually close the game.

rebooted it and now it's doing the usual: Load to menu, close after 10seconds.

i am facing an issue: i uninstalled the gunfighter aio so that i can install bloody ballistics, and then i installed the gunfighter basic, movement, anim and flashlight, and it would appear that they do not work anymore (while basic includes ballistic/damage changes they are overwritten by bloody ballistics, as per the mod author themselves), i looked at the load order but i dont know how they should be arranged. could someone perchance assist me? thank you

That would work only for vanilla weapons I am afraid. It is the gunfighter mod, in the files there is an option for even lower recoil. As far as I know that is attached to vanill attachments, so it is possible to have reduced recoil on modded weapons, but that is only if the mod creator allows vanilla attachments.

It can actually work on modded weapons and modded attachments but few mods have that, and they are specially made to be compatible/implement the Gunfighter features (a Spear LT mod has that)

Generally modders will have their own weapons with their handling lines and custom attachments. For the specific modders such as Ballistic who implement gunfighter with it, yeah sure.

Gives you Matbock's Tarsiers, ECOTI/ECOSIs (now redundant because of F-Panos which have yet to be added), the UAPNVG Chimera Bridge on the GGSM (accurate would have been to use the new Swift FG-21 mount as used by SOCOM but it can pass) and a bunch of other stuff

The only tips I can give you is to check the date. You should really use mods after August 7th as any mods before that may not work with the game. And make sure you have no mods that do identical things, such as how blood looks. Chances are they will just override by the latest pakchunk, but they may simply not work together and crash your game.

Your best bet would probably be to head to the modding discord and see if someone could make it there. Ofc you have to remember that any modded weapons and their creators may nto allow their files to be edited at all.

Part 2 of my failiure to mod RON.

Context: i tried downloading mods from nexus mod manager and also tried putting pak file manually, but the game runs like as if there are no mods. yes, game version is latest and so are the mods. I installed mods before (months ago though) and it worked perfectly. But this time, it just isnt working, for example
I downloaded the zip for the MG338 mod
Extracted
Took the pak file
Put it in readyornot/content/paks and pasted it there.

I used the mg338 before, its not in the menu now. Also yes I did put the 3 pak files of simple mod menu thingy.
HOWEVER, when i downloaded a mod from the in-game mod.io downloader (downloaded a laser color changer mod), it worked.

Nexus has "packs" or mods list in the RON section that are themed around realism and immersion. You can check them out and download whatever mod you like. Most mods are functional, but keep in mind any mod that hasnt been updated since the last RON update may cause your game to crash on startup.

The game loads the pak files and adds them, I have no idea what you could have possibly done to somehow alter it.

I have a question item asset loader is obsolote apparently, when I try to download it from nexus (https://www.nexusmods.com/readyornot/mods/4099) it says "This mod is obsolete and should no longer be used. Every utility is working as intended

The only truly bad utility is the CS Gas, which was intentionally nerfed. It is probably overnerfed, but it is not "broken" to the point of needing fix

Such a mod existed, but it is not updated and probably never will be.

You could mess with it yourself by downloading unreal unpacker or what it is and you could find the voicelines in the pakchunk0, but that is all.

Well, both of those files are almost 3 years old. The chances of them working are practically impossible. Not to mention this was during early stages of RoN where the only outfit change was you selecting a different operator and you could not actually change your shirt/pants/vest/helmet etc.

To answer your question, they were/are replacements

Back then I believe there was no way to fully add something custom.
