but from talking abt this i have learned 2 things: one is to slice the pie as much as possible before entering, and like deal with any visible threats from behind the doorway bfore moving in, and then also is to stop and deal with any civilian or suspect i come across before continuing to go

@rustic plank so far from talking to ai and you guys ive devised a basic strategy for realism when breaching:
basically first stack up on the door and slice the pie as much as i can after opening it to detect anything from behind the doorway, before sending in my units to move and clear and moving with them. if i encounter a person, i should stand there or approach and keep shouting to get them to surrender before continuing

how does that sound

Question: so the top floor of Club Neon is effectively one big, kinda ring shaped open area save for the security offices, the bar next to security, and the area above the private baths. Why can I direct my team to clear only the half of it we're on and they'll comply; meanwhile I get to the 21st floor of City Hall (and once I clear all the surrounding areas) the idiots will take the instruction to storm the main stair case area as "storm the main stair case and then the 22nd floor?" Is it just some weird way the AI and the map design are interacting?

you can also tell submitted civs/suspects to move as well. you can additionally dismiss civs to leave the area, but thats much less realistically sensible

it stops you from leaving the area, otherwise just leave them or command a unit and follow them so they're not alone

all isolated actions might as well have cover on them

also @rustic plank one practice ive gotten into is like when i get a doorway where theres like a hallway or a big area that i cant see from it, i throw a gas into that area before going in so i get some security against threats

yeah i think its something to do with the map design. the maps have their own triggers (im assuming they're just big zones, boxes, triggers, etc. slapped utop of the map) and in some areas they're not consistent. for example Twisted Nerve attic stairs has the bottom of the stairs set as an entryway. The game sets the top of the stairs as a second entryway but not these stairs specifically.
So if you use SWATAI to clear it, they just secure the stairs and dont move onwards into the attic

yeah no thats pretty on point. and your calll for approaching or standing is all about that cover you may or may not be leaving. if you're heading there next, then yeah repeat steps

btw you can also tell your units to Clear With Leader (7) which they will wait for you to throw, bang, launch or enter yourself until clearing

i had a problem where the wrong guy was prompted to deploy a flash, so they just go "nuh uh no flashes".
flash and clear command worked perfectly fine bc it recalculated who had flashes in that team
