When i first started the game, even with all the YT vids I watched, I thought it was gonna be easy considering I got a full A on my first level on my first try, then the game throws me a curveball and slaps me in the reality of how difficult it is

With mods breaking and people wanting their mods updated right away, people commissioning several mods at a time, and previous issues with units/author drama, creating a mod for a whole community where everything is tailored takes some time.

For me, the AI remains the biggest concern still.

They still seem to possess ESP, and have weirdly high accuracy (in situations where they shouldn't) and terminator like behaviours.

So that IMO is still something that needs addressing.

Maybe the stress and pain systems need looking at as well.

There's also the small matter of LPVOs.

i wonder if the ai's accuracy is tied to an rng bullet spread or if the suspect is actually tracking the player like a call of duty bot

a lot of games (especially older ones where it was more common) where the ai's accuracy is based off random spread, the times you get unlucky and get sniped are crazy noticeable

just turn on godmode and run crazy fast circles around a suspect to see if they track you perfectly and only have bullet spread for inaccuracy

What they need is something more in depth that makes accuracy dependent on different factors; so a man running sideways isn't shooting with the precision of a man walking or standing still, and a gang banger under stress doesn't have the accuracy of a former solider who isn't stressed.

Their stress system is also suspect IMO; it feels more like it's designed to artificially push people towards silencers and non lethal, rather than conveying how stress would affect hostages and suspects.

My experience with AI/NPC logic is in Source Engine/Source 2 Engine games but usually the AI has different methods to gather information around its areas.

In Counter Strike 2, bots use audio and visual cues to look for the player, if they break contact, they would briefly try shooting you at the last place you appeared. They also have really dampened aim and always has perfect recoil compensation but they have really slow spot to aim time

Especially in HL Alyx, while toned down specifically for VR, AI doesn't snap immediately to the player when it sees, but they're still very challenging because the AI is specifically coded to actually look for cues and strategise

im currently trying to do a full uncut no damage, perfect accuracy, hudless, glitchless run. admittedly im playing on easy but the ai's spread being decided by random chance is so dogshit. like sometimes a cop can miss a whole mag from a yard away but then another cop will snipe me across the damn map with inhuman ass reaction

The thing is that the AI in Source Engine games are quite fair, they're also tied to the same mechanics as you do so their weapons also has the same spread values as you do

so every engagement is still winnable, even if they have all the info in the world

TF2 bot AI is crazy accurate even in Easy but they're still winnable regardless due to being tied to the same mechanics as the user

I do get the impression that the AI in RoN gets way too much information from non visual sources.

Their audio detection may as well be echolocation (which makes 0 sense when you consider what shooting a gun without ear protection does to your hearing) and they tend to be able to infer precise location from things that, at best, would merely be suspicious or tip them off that something is coming.

Yeah its too accurate even for a human perspective, I know I'm a little unfair for using Source Engine as a comparison (their AI is crazy good already that it's so unfair to compare it to most games) but it's also not realistic for any suspects to have perfect aim, accuracy and depth perception

I recommend if you're gonna be touching the ammo types, to make the hand damage multiplier the same as the arm multiplier. 1.0 changed it and it's really dumb now

hand hits deal 10% of base damage, which means you can be shooting center mass and effectively deal 0 damage because flesh was made significantly harder to penetrate with 1.0
