Anyone else feel like the swat AI are dumber than what they were 8 months ago? Mainly in terms of awareness, reaction time and accuracy? They move around better and do more stuff but many times now they just have a suspect run up next to them and shoot them and they take too long to react that I die/one of the swat ai dies
Or they just stand near a doorway whilst getting shot at and don't even bother to move/shoot back

Shoot it anywhere the hostage situation, preferably within a couple meters and watch them be temporarily blind and deaf
I have tried a few AI mods, none of them seem to work for me. Matter of fact when I tried using a suspect ai mod that decreased their accuracy and awareness I seemed to die a lot faster and get one tapped more often than in the vannilla ironically enough.
This is likely also due in part to the damage cap being broken with the DLC release.

All in all I like the AI being difficult, but for some odd reason every now and then it's literally just instant shooting with 0 delay even when you are slowly peaking them and not making much noise. Their accuracy overall seems fine, my issue more or less is when they don't flinch to being shot at all (in particular armored suspects, making getting them to surrender when using lethal force very dangerous) and their insane levels of awareness, such as just hearing you across the map, knowing exacctly what door to pre aim at and seeing you from fair distances away when you are micro peaking them or there is something that is obstructing the line of vision and they can easily see right through it. For example that one angle on sins of a father or through glass windows at crazy distances like across that bridge as you are going from building a to b on the hospital mission. I have actually gotten beamed going across that from the windows on building b before. and there is literlaly nothing you can do other than try run for it and hope you don't die.
Although I read on voids website they are planning to try fix the line of sight issue, about them being able to see you through small cracks and such easily so that's nice
Certain armour and caliber combinations can guarantee a stumble on hit. 7.62x51 and slugs will ALWAYS stagger an armoured opponent, this lets you either switch to a different less lethal, or run up and poke them, because I guess being poked with a gun is more intimidating to these people than being shot in the chest by one.
If you wanted a lighter gun with a high stagger rate given its damage output and amount of ammo, the MP7 and P90 chambered with JHP rounds have a 1 in 2 chance of staggering on limb shots.
7.62x51 is a garmented one hit incap even on level 4 armor though lol

Well it has very little recoil and a high firerate so it isn't entirely impratical
Even jhp isn't so bad, I think it's normally 6 to incap vs lvl 4 w/ 300blk jhp? I mean, 7.62x51 JHP doesn't really perform much better compared to .300blk JHP vs lvl 4.

The more bullets I shoot = the more bullets that can hit their head/the more bullets that can hit them after they're incapped and kill them or a bystander. Reducing number of shots taken is ideal imo.
meanwhile suspect hands just eat every other shot I fire at them, regardless of penetration

suspects have 3 tiers of armor
L2 (armor class 2, 'light')
L3A (armor class 3, 'medium')
Armor 4 (armor class 4, 'heavy')

There's 3 tiers of armour. Rifles basically ignore the first tier, but subguns can struggle with JHP rounds. The second tier can give 5.56 rifles trouble if they're running JHP, and the third tier gives everything that isn't an AP rifle round a hell of a time.
Also, I seen it some suspects, especially the gangsters of 23 MB per second and the gas station level have backpacks on them
I have a feeling that they’re kind of using that backpack as armor, but it’s failing miserably
cosmetic, same as the dude wearing a 'vest' on coyote (usually spawns outside or in the house)

What was dumber was 7.62x51 AP having a 2x headshot multiplier when literally every other round in the game had a 3x headshot multiplier. You would think the BIGGEST ARMOUR PIERCING ROUND AVAILABLE would hurt MORE when you're struck in the head, not less.

all gas masks have been cosmetic up until Adam/1.0 where a single suspect on Lethal Obsession has gas immunity
to this day, there's 2 gas mask suspects on Lethal Obsession and only 1 of them is immune to gas lul
CS Gas just didn't really work early on, so that may have been it.

No, the multiplier is fixed now, actually the headshot multiplier is x6 for EVERYTHING except for beanbags, which set suspect health to 0 (lol), and 12ga slug/buck, which only has a 3x damage multiplier, as everything did previously, except for AP 7.62x51. Still, it's just really silly that the largest non expanding round in the game did LESS headshot damage compared to everything else.

Some headshots were surprisingly non lethal before after an AP round passed through a person. Flesh was the 3rd hardest material in the game prior to this update, so it could reduce the damage enough that a x3, or in 7.62x51 AP's case, x2, did not cause incapacitation or death.
Flesh may still be the 3rd hardest material, I just figured someone at VOID would have realized by now that that's fucking stupid.
a realistic realistic game is a game that would sell poorly. we do not want realism to the best extent, it's a game, we want fun, we want challenges, we do not want to face a real life simulator

Literally this. Why not just forbid JHP from penetrating flesh, or if it does, it'll instead just use spalling damage from AP rounds, so you can safely shoot hostage takers with JHP rounds w/o punching holes in the hostage.
The only thing barrel length does is make keeping the gun aimed harder when it's longer. The "increased velocity" thing it says for certain pistol suppressors is a crock of shit.

Slugs are really good but they have a 10,000% arterial bleed chance, so avoid the upper arms and legs.

Buck gets at the limbs more, so it probably will feel better vs lvl 4 armour suspects.

12gauge buck is absurdly lethal because it has 2 instant-kill dice rolls on TOP of having really high raw damage

I understand they wanted to release the game with enough levels, and a a - z plot, but they really NEEDED more levels, because things happen so quickly in the game's story I struggle to try and keep up with the chronologically fuckered narrative.

Yeah, like I said before they could’ve gone the SWAT 4 route and have virtually no story with every mission kind of having their own little self-contained plot
They made "rich person CP murder den" and that was the whole thing, they didn't make it make sense.
Every story imo would need a introduction, then 2 stories that lead to the finale then end it with a 4th mission as finale
They wanted to make a horror mission and then had to make it fit the rest of the plot somehow,
Or just do what SWAT 4 did. Singular, isolated missions that are entirely their own self-contained story.
Repeat that with 5 stories and you’re good to go (Elephant is the perfect 1 off mission as it’s unexpected and doesnt need background missions)
SWAT 4 had great ambience and made each mission its own isolated story without tripping over its own shoelaces like this game does.

I like RON but the plot just kinda makes my eyes glaze over because it's so clearly cobbled together. Mission briefings aren't even consistent with the mission contents, there are typos everywhere, missing capitalization, missing punctuation,

For RoN there’s 2 options, either you make a good story but make smaller maps and therefore more or you make solo stories with 1 big ass map or even 2
They came up with the idea to have bombs in the hospital, implemented it, and then forgot to make the briefing match. They created the Vineyard level, realized they needed a reason for the cops to be there, and then just invented the officer thing, but never bothered to go back and add them to the level.

Also inconsistencies with the briefing because the briefing mentions them being taken hostage and the terrorists threatening to execute them if you alert them, but they don't have them as hostages--they're just hidden across the map as regular civilians, and the terrorists don't do shit to them.
They should've had them all as civilians in a single room with guns to their heads, forcing the player to flank the hostage-takers

Check the Commander Mode briefing. It has a mission type note for each mission, but all of them--including Elephant--are listed as Barricaded Suspects.

I also wish that for AS missions, the Suspect AI was more aggressive with larger quantities of civilians. You shouldn't be required to keep all civilians alive, but merely to take out the shooters as quickly as possible to mitigate the damage.

For example, instead of four shooters on Elephant, there's one or two--but those one or two are highly aggressive, highly mobile, and highly erratic. There are crowds of civilians and they start killing instantly. Instead of being graded on number of civilians killed, you're graded on mission completion time.

They know the building by heart due to familiarity and can move across it quickly to hunt civilians. They will avoid SWAT as best they can and avoid confrontation.
The 3-4 shooters are spaced out. Take 1 out and that’s a rifle in your hands
If forced into a confrontation, they will try to shoot to disperse you, then flee down another path.

Always went for the VKS. Especially on your own AI, so they don't execute them by an accidental headshot. + With the VKS you can shoot at the ground and it won't count as an unauthorized use of force

For example some could have a "coward" tag that makes them less aggressive and will flee and hide more a "Psycho" tag which makes them more likely to take hostages and be more aggressive. Stuff like that

I just always look at SWAT 4 SEF's ai for how much better it does some things. Suspects way less predictable and humanized feeling. And SWAT 4 has a skill level for suspects, with the higher the skill the more resistant they are to some morale damage and faster and more accurate they are with shooting

Id recommend it, you can pick it up on GOG for very cheap. I never grew up with it or anything either :p
But a lot of RON's influence comes from SWAT 4, but it does the whole being a swat guy way better. Suspects are way more varied, often running away rather than instantly trying to kill you. Coaxing surrenders feels way more reliable and satisfying, and you can finish most levels without firing a single lethal round without taking any damage if you play it right

Before, If I played like a idiot without thinking -> I'd get beaten up quickly
Now -> the AI has trouble killing me and I stay alive by playing stupidly.
Before, if I played with a lethal weapon but wanted to play "clean" -> I knew the ia was strong, I stressed, I had sensations, I was paranoid etc etc. It was a good thing for my experience
if I do the same (using a lethale weapon but playing cleanly) with a weaker AI -> less difficulty, less stress, fewer surprises, it's easier to finish the mission with a good score. And I didn't get a thrill 🤔
