iirc, it works like Diablo 2 magic arrows that dont use ammo, and is just its own infinite ammo, without WATK damage added.

hasty stone
#

The skill Soul Arrow do not consider the arrow att you use. It's as if it was using a basic arrow from an infinite quiver.

#

You can use soul arrow even if you don't have arrows in your inventory.

radiant mason
#

yea, otherwise crafting WATK arrows would be completely pointless

would be cool if they did change it, but yeah it would just mean make a single stack of fancy arrows and forget about it.

isn't it the other way around?
hunter has a better final attack, crossbowman have iron arrow which is better for MS classic's state of mobbing. flat platforms are much better than stacked platforms due to downward tracking and bottom hitboxes being so bad for arrow bomb. either way, for 2nd job both are great choices.

#

and hunter can use final attack to mob anyways

amber jungle
#

Crossbowman better for bossing because of 20% chance of armor ignore

The good news is that lots of changes that negatively affect warrior also affect archers (like the invul. timer going down) so a lot of changes will benefit both classes

I think invul timer being down is a problem of a problem for the most part

#

Like if archers had their range fixed they wouldnt put themselves in shitty situations and if warrior def mattered they wouldn't go broke so easily.

whole geode
#

Yeah, I just think it disproportionally affects Archer and Warrior. Dagger Thief as well. Just that 1st job tends to have the most spawn and highest-speed monsters, where Warrior/Archer don't have mastery to reliably knock back monsters and the attack speed to keep them at bay

#

My thinking is also Xbow > Bow for 1st job since the 30% vs 20% knockback chance is probably going to save you more than the faster attack speed

tribal trench
burnt osprey
#

That, and xbows have higher watk values on avg.

burnt osprey
#

As far as the Hunter vs Crossbowman comparison, here are some things I noticed:

Hunter pros:

  • Bows have slightly faster attack speed than crossbows

Hunter neutrals:

  • Final Attack can hit up to 3 mobs, but the animation lock can interrupt chain-stunning mobs with Arrow Bomb

Hunter cons:

  • Arrow bomb damage does not come online until about level 21 (120% dmg & 50% stun chance); until then, Double Shot (max = 120% x 2) is more effective for mobbing and cost efficient for mp
  • Bows require 10 more strength to equip than crossbows

Crossbowman pros:

  • Iron Arrow starts with a whopping 130% dmg at level 1, which is literally 10% less damage than a maxed Arrow Bomb (140% dmg); additionally, Iron Arrow is guaranteed to hit all mobs in a straight line, it has no damage fall off per hit like OSMS, and it has a hit-box consistent with Arrow Bomb without the need to snap onto targets
  • Crossbows require 10 less strength to equip than bows

Crossbowman neutrals:

  • Final Attack may be worthwhile for bossing, but there are no significant boss fights during 2nd job; additionally, the animation lock can lead to premature death in a boss encounters

Crossbowman cons:

  • Final Attack is useless for mobbing because it is single target, animation lock, and it interrupts Iron Arrow mobbing, which leads to the player getting overwhelmed in close-range combat
  • Crossbows have slightly slower attack speed than bows
#

In my opinion, Crossbowman is more effective at mobbing enemies as long as the accuracy formula is jank. If the accuracy formula changes and allows for training at higher level mobs, then Hunters can excel in that area because Arrow Bomb stun allows them to mob safely.

whole geode
#

Well put, but Iron Arrow does have falloff, its a flat 20% damage per hit. so its 100, 80, 60, 40, for a total of 280% of the first target's damage on 4 targets

burnt osprey
#

Oh shit thanks!

#

I'll edit that out

whole geode
#

The old IA had a multiplicative 10% lost per hit. So it was 100, 90, 81, etc. So the new one has about double the falloff, slightly more the more targets you hit. On 4 targets it does just over 130% when you average out the damage

burnt osprey
#

Wow okay. That is a huge difference than what I initially anticipated.

#

Thank you for explaining that math!

#

I really hope the devs fix the lower limit hit box on ranged attacks. It is so bad for Archers, and completely gimps Arrow Bomb & Iron Arrow in a lot of training spots.

whole geode
#

I will say that if things stay as they are, I think Final Attack is a miss for both Archer classes. Its more or less what it was in 07 with more damage and less proc chance. It technically saves you MP potions when it activates, but it also locks you in place causing you to take more damage. I was watching people getting hit because their FA activated a lot. Hunter one is definitely better, but its worse than bomb against 3 targets, doesn't have the stun as well. Would definitely rather have maxed PKB or buff timers over it.

#

I think the only good reason to take it is fun: Seeing big numbers on the Xbow one or the mini-strafe on the Hunter one. And fun is of course a plenty good reason!

white lotus
#

The rule has always been don't max final atk

#

or even put points in lol

#

classic seems to not have addressed this

burnt osprey
#

If bow whacking is carried into release, I reckon I would also max PKB and leave FA behind (assuming no changes). I saw how useful it was to knock enemies away, especially mobs of 3+; the difference in mobbing potential was night-and-day. The extra distance on the knockback per level also seemed a bit helpful.

whole geode
# white lotus classic seems to not have addressed this

There's definitely been some well intentioned changes, thought I'd say they haven't necessarily improved things even vs. the original FA. All the main problems are still there: The SP waste, the animation lock, and the activation conditions

azure ember
#

The animation lock is probably the biggest killer here. FA would be seen as a net positive for all classes if that were gone if not almost completely negated.

thick nova
#

Maybe just make it add extra damage to your next attack or add 1 or 2 extra lines to it

burnt osprey
#

I would like it to function as a combination of both of your suggestions. Remove/minimize animation lock and make it add extra lines of dmg.

#

Let's be honest: we all like seeing extra lines 😎

crimson field
#

Its gotta have some kind of tradeoff, maybe some classes can move doing FA, some can jump during FA, but all are incapable of inputting another action at the same time.

Ex: fighter+page can jump and move during FA. Bowman can move during FA, xbowmen cant.

azure ember
#

Yeah FA is a hard skill to get right which is why i initially was against all classes having it.

#

But hey if we are going that route we cant have the non-FA classes completely leave the FA classes in the dust.

burnt osprey
# crimson field Its gotta have some kind of tradeoff, maybe some classes can move doing FA, some...

In my opinion, that seems gimmicky and inadequately addresses issues that make FA so bad.

At a glance, Archers and Warriors have worse DPS than Thieves and Mages. In Archer's case, bow whacking significantly weakens their DPS, and Warriors have lower damage than all of the other classes. FA should help level the playing field instead of being a deadweight skill. The only limiter that makes sense for FA is keeping the % activation chance.

burnt osprey
#

Another gripe I have is that we can't put SP from 2nd job into 1st job skills. Why would I want to put 11 points into FA by level 70 when I would never use it in its current state? I would rather put those points into 1st job skills that could provide some stats/utility.

worldly sequoia
#

Honestly

#

The FA version I tried during the PC Cafe event was way better than the current version we have

#

all it needed was a longer window of time to be able to use it

#

Being able to click the Final attack key to proc the attack on your own felt so nice

#

But having a 3-4 sec window was too short

#

All they had to do was increase the time slightly to maybe like 6 seconds and maybe give us an animation of some sort to tell us when it proc’d / was ready to be used

burnt osprey
whole geode
#

My wish list would be FA getting replaced with a unique skill for each class that has it. Since those classes are the most similar anyway. Would be a great opportunity to separate Bow/Xbow further.

#

Or maybe give the archers a party skill? Doesn't have to be that crazy, just balanced around the other party skills in 2nd job. Maybe slightly stronger since it would be a 30 point skill after all

next yacht
#

the final attack is fine as is

#

they can just tweak the numbers or speed up the animation a bit

#

no one wants to manage final attack windows and having it just spit out bonus attack with no animation is too strong

#

it'll likely be useless in 3rd job anyway

crystal mortar
#

If it's useless why waste the SP then

worldly sequoia
#

FA isn't completely useless in 2nd job

sage forge
#

Completely useless

#

It’s proven non fa training yields higher eph

burnt osprey
#

FA is useless for both subclasses in the CBT largely due to the animation lock. Adding to Yeti's msg, the animation lock often lead to getting overwhelmed by mobs in melee range, which resulted in more bow whacking and greater pot consumption. FA is a worthless skill unless it is seriously changed.

burnt osprey
# next yacht no one wants to manage final attack windows and having it just spit out bonus at...

I totally disagree with the latter part of your statement. The % activation chance of FA literally makes its effective damage 35%, which averages to an increase of about +100% dmg per attack. This is not too strong when you consider how often bow whacking reduces overall dps. The activation chance alone levels the playing field. The animation lock is unnecessary, and makes the skill unusable.

#

In the time it takes to kill a group of enemies, a person has likely bow whacked 2+ times. That's lost DPS. FA should help alleviate the downsides of bow whacking, rather than being a complete waste of investment.

#

That also doesn't even begin to cover how much time is spent running around mobs just to set up for a shot that won't result in bow whacking.

#

I think people really underestimate how good Mages and Thieves have it because they genuinely do not have to worry about whether their attack will hit, or not. FA should help bridge that gap.

sage forge
#

fa needs damaged applied without animation lock. same applies for warriors. it just doesn't make sense going into 3rd either. id rather split my SP into something more tangible long-term in 1x.

#

i agree @burnt osprey

I still dont really think Focus is that necessary, except for avoiding pain in job advancement. But havent seen anyone actually give a focus vs non focus build fair comparison, so its all theorycrafting (also people just resetting all the time in the CoT, so not really comparable)

azure ember
#

until they fix avoidability I'd pass on focus if possible

#

so pretty much forever lol

rapid wind
#

Most builds I've seen is 10 focus, which is 10 accuracy. That is equal to 30 dex. So AT WORST, you need to wait 6 more levels before you do anything compared to others. That is really not that bad, when you compare rates at different maps and such. And the benefit is more damage early and more CC (slow) later on. As long as job advancement is remotely doable, I think no focus is the way. At least that would be my build if it was released as is

cinder quest
#

if they want to keep bow whack, then amazon's judgement + pkb needs to feel good to use

rapid wind
worldly sequoia
#

Having to be so precise on your SP to just be able to not miss on mobs within 5 levels of you is terrible game design no matter how you try to look at it

#

The game never used to function that way and they simply went too aggressive on the formula

#

It’s not really friendly to new players or veteran players

azure ember
burnt osprey
#

Focus was necessary to hit mobs consistently during the CBT, even into the mid-40s. If that doesn't change, then Focus will still be useful to keep in the build. However, if the accuracy formula is changed to be more forgiving, then those points could be placed into something like Amazon's Judgement for a more consistent, stronger slow.

azure ember
#

If they fix Arrow bomb and archer aim and they buff avoidability even a tad bit to be actually useful i may skip amazon judgement on hunter.

burnt osprey
#

I agree that Archer's accuracy should be higher; in fact, I think it should be higher than any other class due to Archer's primary stat, DEX. It fits with the class identity, too. I also agree that the hit-box, specifically the downward range, needs to be increased. It was abysmal in the COT.
