Ive done lots of driving in floods and stuff. And you keep your steering the way it was aimed when you hit water and let off gas and do not hit the brakes. The tyres will sink down into water to touch road and you can then steer slowly and gently apply brakes. You will feel it because when you hydroplane car feels weightless. When tyres hit the road again steering suddenly feels heavy

If you put into neutral you have no control of speed. And countersteering when having no control of speed is super dangerous idea 🤔

That works on a FWD car, on a rwd vehicles its a bit different, especially in a situation where the vehicle starts to drift, like in the original message.
