no sadly, the volvo in the spec we need for the job was same price but the guys who do the build up for volvo dont do cranes, so we would have got a diffrent guy for the crane and then it becomes a complecated thing to get everything serviced. but mercedes near us does everything, including a crane and such. so we only loose the truck for 2 days to get everything serviced in stead of 5

and 5 days of me sitting on my ass or 2 days, thats a big diffrence in cost for the boss over all those yearts this truck will serve

I am in the U.S. and really want to get a CDL so I can drive semis. What is the first step I need to take? Is it a written test or the actual school part of it?

In Europe, you will have to go to driving school learning driving with teacher car/school car. Have some tests in the end (theory + practical driving). That would be the first step.
Second step, would be take driving lessons at another driving school, but specifically for trucks & buses, where it is school vehicles. In the end, you will have to go to tests as well, (Theory and practical).
Lastly, then find a company who will hire you as a driver, if not done via the driving school.

I don't know exactly how USA system works, but I am certainly sure it would be pretty much the same thing.

top engines? we usually go with 450 - 550 hp as that is more than enough. And with a good configuration you can have up to 800 - 1200l of diesel, depending on the utilisation area, yes.

Your experience will vary massively, it varies on company you work for and how they act. With how your message is written I assum you are still fairly young. My advice is if you are under 25, then definitely try and find a company that will put you through it, a lot of companies are unable to insure drivers under 25.

we've put this up to discussion to bring some clarity in this case.

Vans or pick-ups (pick-up trucks in the USA) are not considered trucks or semi-trucks, hence why they shouldn't be posted in here as the channel name and description rather suggests. In the past this has been kind of a grey area and it has been somewhat tolerated, especially with our showcase example of @formal minnow .

In some countries Vans or pickups can indeed be considered a truck, by simple registering them under a truck license. This however is not the standard and doesn't apply to many.

However, since this is rather going into direction of a trend to post Vans in here, we've put this up into consideration once more and decided against that idea.

So from this point ahead, please refrain from posting Vans, pickups or even just cars in here. This channel should stay exclusive to trucks, lorrys or overall semi-trucks. For anything else, either head to #car-talk or #irl-media .

tank chassis its round 13/14, therye a tad shorter
