Tonight on Invisible Sun:
The party finally discovers the magic wine bottle that fills up with whatever liquid you were thinking about when you uncorked it actually had a finite number of uses and shattered after they used it to pour out gravy...
I love that one
something something Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works
Yet those hands will never hold anything
Moments from the session, “ I’m coming back from onions rings to say please don’t admit to treason”
never have i felt more fear
I always ask my players, "So what do you think of the session"
Today someone said it to me and there is no other way to attack your deepseated fear that the session is bad you get every session ( it was a joke)
never stop gambling
Has anyone played Mythic Bastionland? I’m meant to be going to an event next week that’s running it and I’m not 100% sure if it’s going to be my cup of tea. Was wondering what others think of it.
I haven't, but it's near the top of my "would like to try" list based on the Quinn's Quest review.
I haven't run it yet but I did buy the rulebook and read it pretty intensely then ported it's Hexcrawl system to a DnD campaign I'm running soonish so I could potentially answer questions
The main vibe check on if you think it's for you is "do you think being a Knight during arthuriam legend times would be cool, with all the rights and responsibilities that would bestow upon you"
Yeah that’s what I’m kinda stuck on cause in a general sense, not really, but also there’s a lot of things I could say that to that as an abstract thing that I know I would still then enjoy in context.
So long as you have a decent DM, I'd be willing to say give it a try anyway because I find the system really compelling (the whole gameplay section of the rulebook is like 16 pages, super tightly designed) and so if you get a good DM, might be good to just enjoy it from a game design perspective
That’s a good enough recommendation of I’ve seen any!
Tonight in DnD
We're currently investigating a murder and there's a bunch of vampire cosplayers with funny vampire names and we found the murder victims secret vampire cosplay identity and the DM was trying to come up with a corny vampire name and we bullied him into naming her Renesme von Bloodovitch and we're really proud of ourselves
I'm trying to figure out how to tweak vampire mechanics for a player who was turned recently without just making it unfun
Like someone casting sunlight on his nose and then he dies from it because it lasts an hour and isn't concentration
Maybe I'll have to buy the book with the dhampir race to see what they're doing there
Also I also had to improvise some vampire names and came up with Von van Von and Alvons van Von
You should be
We are playing Blood Lords & half the group is related. The other half is an inquisitor and her browbeaten skeleton servant
It's terrible. My players might finally be getting to end of the Darkest House after four months, and I'm going to have to start making up plot again...
Maroon them on a desert island
By the time they get off it, you’ll have created more plot
It would take some serious plot to maroon them. They have much magic at their fingertips.
Hm. An anti-magic desert island...?
They've encountered the only form of antimagic in the setting before, and know that it will permanently stop them being wizards. I'm not that cruel. :P
-# Mostly...
Thankfully we'll probably end up with at least one downtime session, and they'll have The Trauma to deal with as well, so I've got some time...
Hi everyone, I was hoping to find an online DnD group to join that would take on someone pretty new to the game. I figured this would be a good place to start, since people who share interest in the cosmere are usually my kind of people.
Anyone know where I can look/who to talk to?
R/lfg isn’t too bad for it
I just played a game of "Eldritch Automata" system was intresting. D6 with stress die, TLDR: Mechas fighting with eldritch abominations.
Four months... And it is done.
The Darkest House has been escaped.
My friend and I rated all the species for 2024 play based on our experience so far
Anyone have some fun less common mythological creatures they can reccomend
Jackalopes!
I always felt the vultures that ate prometheus's liver every day should have been more mythologised
There's probably a Fate Grand Order wiki page for them
What fickle mistress timing is, for unto us is delivered this day...
The Darkest Woods.
You're just setting up a Darkest Dungeon aren't you?
The embodiment of friends who make fun of your "grink" typo
what are the thoughts on vampire the masquerade here?
I'm a Requiem kinda guy, but Masquerade has it's moments.
I’ve just been reading the v20 core rulebook. What’s the difference between masquerade and requiem?
Different editions of the world.
White Wolf rebooted the franchise and made a new game that replaced the old one, and then went back to the old one eventually for V20, V5, and so on.
Different types of vampires, different mythology, backstory, that kind of thing.
big one I see talked about most is changes to the clans. Fewer unique disciplines in v5, changes to what clan gets what disciplines, iirc nosferatu don't have to be ugly now?
that sort of thing
i read about the v5 clans and very quickly decided i wanted to play v20 if i ever got the chance
I accidentally killed a man yesterday
We were infiltrating a vampire "fanboy" party and managed to blag our way into being taken to the "feeding" room because, shocker, it was an actual vampire party. My character, an illusionist with a knife that Kills You Forever (this is important), made an illusion of one of the prisoners in the room torn to shreds to make it looks like we "fed" and could leave and report back to the rest of the party. As we were leaving, one of the other characters was like "Quick, cut his palm and smear his blood on your face, we look too clean" and so my character, who's only blade is the Knife That Kills You Forever, sliced the prisoner who'd been covered by the illusion hand, assuring him it's okay, it doesn't always Kill You Forever. DM made me roll damage, I rolled a 4, commoners health is 4, he was accidentally killed forever
I didn't tell the other characters
that's rough, but to be fair, do most knives not kill you forever? Is this one just. Magically dangerous or something?
It's DnD, and my knife is enchanted to make you unressurectable. Also wounds made by it don't heal naturally and require magic to fix. Immortal creatures like demons and devils do not like when I pull it out
steals that to use against his players
It's fun, because my character is a sorcerer so I rarely use it except for RP or finishing off already near dead enemies
Attuning it gives strength score of 8 so I can't pass it to someone to help make it not OP
Mind you, I think I'd probably swap some of its qualities - magical healing is ten a penny, so wounds that only heal with time are probably more threatening to my game.
In game, it basically reduces your max hp until a curse is removed, with the flavour being it's cuts never heal
Yesterday in my Animon Story campaign a Kid nearly suffered explosive decompression because the diving bell (an overturned boat) he was using to reach the bottom of a lake shot to the surface when his Animon jumped off to chase fish
Hello, poli—
Ah, #1404997600687689799, carry on then
Accidentally killing someone is a very high moral ground for in an rpg
ooh, I like that detail about immortal creatures. Feels like the weapon of an underdog, bringing them down to the level of a mortal
Honestly there's one party member who legitimately tries very hard to do the right thing and save everyone he can and he was the one who told me to go back and bloody myself and so he was rather upset about what happened (which seemed to extend to the player as well, he really wanted to save everyone in the room but we were SURROUNDED by vampires and we're level 4)
He's definitely the most moral party member and the rest of us drag him down to our level
While Serillion was just like
I wrote a haiku for my bard to use as a Bon Mot. We are fighting stone vultures and as soon as I saw the art I said “that’s not granite, it’s too smooth and glossy and doesn’t have inclusions of mica”
Today's game featured Duo, his owlbear brother Lingo, and the Efreet Ea-Nasir who cursed people to forget Common (English). Luckily the party was highly multilingual and leaned into the bit, so Duo and Lingo attacked Ea-Nasir even more than they attacked the players, as it turns out I am worse at learning French spelling than the players were at learning Polish spelling.
Ea-Nasir is of course powered up by negative emotions so he summoned two Danish Nilbogs after they defeated his Clay Tablet Golems
One of my players foiled my plans by randomly knowing Dutch
So my cryptic hints in the Dutch newspaper were not so cryptic. Thankfully he was cursed and could only explain it to the other players in Dutch.
oh, that's fantastic
Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz asked them to provide him with a "Źdźbło Łódź" (I simplified away the conjugations so they could look up the words in the Norwegian-Polish dictionary (None of them were Norwegian either but they could figure it out from there))
I did this once. DM gave us a Mysterious Text written in Latin and I just started translating it before she even had us roll to see whose character could understand it
But hey, there's a chance its not cursed, and then you have an epic sword!
That classic moment where your players inadvertently introduce original sin into the world by recreating the Holy Grail War
I am currently running a hexblade warlock in a D&D campaign and I kinda made my patron a straight ripoff from Glys (Renarins nahel bond spren) and also the character also is kinda like vin or a mistborn in a sense. Their species is mephit but its just s reskined dragonborn. So what else should I add?
we are ten minutes into a session and we have ruined a man life by throwing bees into a bank in diguise as the dude
Least unhinged rpg session
"nonlethal"- shouted the caster whille casting firebal
I did not expect where this session would go.
Unexpected argument this morning in the DnD chat on whether torturing a prisoner as retribution for kidnapping some party members and mutilating some kids became heated when we realised most of us were arguing from our characters perspective but one of our table was talking as themselves and kinda horrified at us all
Haha.
I took the spell albatross curse which summons a giant seabird the target can choose to kill and one of my fellow players spent the time when it was not his turn moving the token around and around in a circle, multiplying it, and otherwise enjoying the concept
I think he was having more fun with the spell than i was
I get to run an Orbital Blues one-shot tonight. 🚀 🎶
-# I've had this game for like two years and am just now getting to play it.
Last Night on Orbital Blues:
The crew was hired to find a mercenary/cowboy/hit-song-writer/compensated-folk-icon who went missing inside a mega-corporation’s mega-tower. Rather than gather information via force or espionage, they attempted to seduce every corporate employee they came across in hopes of scavenging bread crumbs.
Upon finding that the aforementioned cowboy was experimented on and had new memories programmed into his brain, they proceeded to act out the plot of [INSERT SPAGHETTI WESTERN HERE] in order to help break him out so that he would play along.
This did not work super great, as the mega-tower went into RedAlert™ after they broke the cowboy out of his holdings. In attempts to escape, two players decided to Swansong partially to help get the players to safety, but mostly because they “wanted to see what would happen.”
It was a good time and everyone said they would play again. 😌
I'm excited, a group from my church is gonna start up Dragonbane
I'm gonna have a friend of a player sit in for one session of my campaign and gotta think of a character that's safe for them to use 😮
Human male fighter
I do have a sidekick character named Normal Steve
He stood out in the Feywild by being the only normal person they could find
He has 11 in each stat
I'd probs at least give them something useful as a character, unless they're taking on more of an NPC role?
I gave her a level 11 Artificer (the rest of the party is level 8)
oh hah yeah that'll do it
Shout out to Holly Black and the other bad fairy YA novels I read for helping me identify and know facts about three fairies we encountered in the pathfinder game today
I knew facts about Redcaps and Huldras and hags
I said “I can’t wait for them to start fighting so I can say all the stuff I know about redcaps” then rolled a nat1 and we deciddd it was because my character just started saying them so I got to share all my redcap facts. And some of them were tied into their stat block
Watching someone review DIE and their commentary on the writing makes me wish I could just tell them "you're out of touch old man" xD
Clearly you don't own a stone fryer
They probably consider you to be a beautiful work of art. Either that or they're high as a kite since they're in the overworld, which is a place they usually don't believe in.
Guys I'm very excited for my next DnD session
Half our group got kidnapped, we managed to get them back but none of their loot. We sneak further into the base where they were taken and we find a big room where the submarine they were kidnapped in is stored. In that room is
- The evil Vampirate who kidnapped our friends
- A bunch of guards milling about
- A bunch of kids in cages
- A big box with some guard sitting on it because our artificiers hammer is in there and it's trying to fly out
We snuck in just as vampirate was finishing a conversation with a demon that we had previously worked with but now seems to be working against us (none of us were shocked tbh) and I said I'd prepare fireball for when the conversation ends. Conversation ended, DM said we'd start next session with my fireball and roll initiative.
This is very fun because we've got a few elements all going on at once, and now the DM has a week to draw a battle map that either means some of the kids in cages are getting fireballed or there's some gunpowder nearby or something
And yeah, big combat with half our party needing to get to their box of stuff before they can be fully effective, civilians in the room, lots of guards and a minor bbeg
Everyone says I shouldn't fireball and I'm like, I've committed to the fireball and there'd have to be a mighty fine amount of kids getting collateralled before I reconsider
I even drew a diagram
(c is Carl, for Carl the Pirate)
EXACTLY
I got the full version of Blades '68 pdf today
I am extremely pumped about this game
Beautiful book
So errr this combat went terribly
I rolled terribly on my fireball scrolls so neither went off. I managed to get a dissonant whispers off but only after two other characters silvery barbs and bard reduction thing the enemies saving throw so it took 3 characters to get off 11 damage and get vampirate to run away for 1 turn
I then went down after he commanded a thrall to attack me and I'm squishy af
Got up, tried to use my Ring of the Ram which has a +7 to melee attack and rolled a 3 😭
Wasn't the only one who rolled terribly yesterday and I think a combat that shouldn't have taken more than a couple of hours is now gonna be a two session affair
And of course the dm rolled 3 nat 20s in one turn on his attacks
Oh D&D....
What level are you?
4 😬
But we're playing dual class system, so we're all 4 levels in two classes. This version of Serillion is Wizard/Sorc
ooof, so close to not needing to roll for those fireball scrolls...
Mhmmmmm
I have a +5 to cha as well, so literally needed an 8 and rolled lower than that on both scrolls
Thats rough
I'm playing a cleric in one of my dnd campaigns, and, I guess, have been having trouble doing a more fleshed out rp of him. Maybe cleric is the one class that's really hard for me to get behind due to religious stuff, compared to other character I play that are also very much not like me but fleshing them out and slipping into them happens naturally. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is since I can play very religious characters that aren't clerics...
Either way, I decided to rewrite my sheet and try to note down more character traits, quirks, ideals, prayers, the religion itself...and suddenly it's 5am and I'm only halfway
So... good news: I think I've managed to make a more robust mental image of him! Which will let me rp him better.
Bad news: I time skipped forward like 4h
I too am playing a cleric (well, a 'preacher') and I too suck at that RP. Though I think I just suck at RP in general for any character with strong convictions...I think it's my tendency to not want to be disruptive
Yeah I've absolutely don't have that problem
I always play characters that are very much not like me and I don't usually have to make much of an effort to shape them for RP purposes, I think of a general outline and it comes out naturally
Well, now I've a lot of work to do... so I guess I could work a bit more on this character 👀
I'm just curious, has anyone here tried Curseborne? It is somewhat new but I've been looking into it and while it is neat I can't find people who really have played it more than like, one session
I'm usually oops all RP I have no idea how systems work lol
So I have a tendency to play himbos
looks at how I ended up Prince in vtm larp
any suggestions
Yes
More broth
for the record they did in fact fully liquify their bones
Conversation at yesterdays table, what would Tinder but for people looking for warlock patrons be called
Nailed it, absolutely the best suggestion
I miss playing ttrpgs
Do you have any game stores nearby? They tend to host groups
Mine is 35 minutes away and if we need a game we post on the Facebook group
But the one nearest to me is too small for ttrpgs but they’re getting a building built so they can move out of the plaza space
Ah, rip
Haven’t heard from them since they got approved for the building
We just started. I am a Karkion Bounty Hunter. Hehehe

My GM asked our characters certain questions. Mine had to do with my characters first heartbreak. I said said that she died from a demon and my GM asked if I ever found a body. I mistakenly said No. Am I cooked?
you put yourself in that cookpot, pal
I misunderstood the question 😭
My GM said this yesterday: "I am a generous GM... For now."
Also other than a one shot I participated in, this is my first TTRPG experience
Have y’all played ttrpgs in libraries?
My local library has occasional D&D days, and the manager occasionally invites me to come run a game when they need a spare DM. Other than that, I haven’t ever played with my own group there.
Supporting your community like true radiant
-# tangent: I wonder if the fourth ideal of the edgedancers is ‘I will tell my story’
-# we know the fourth ideals
Theoretical Spoilers (SA 6-10)
||-# Maybe that’s a fifth ideal then||
When you mentioned that I immediately went to the stormlight handbook and I realized that you are correct and that it is not that
Technically, I think the fourth ideal for edgedancers would be along the lines of ||I will tell others’ story.||
(But also yes, support your local library, you lose what you don’t use
)
I did the thing where I DMed everyone something relevant to their character's personal backstory, except for one guy who I simply told "You have not been replaced by a changeling."
What’s your favorite RPG experience?
Online was a dragon while a rogue ran away with the gold in dnd
And my first irl experience was dnd with giant worms that ate my brother
Classic D&D!
Tonight on Invisible Sun...
The party remembers they're actually wizards and can thus solve their problems with magic.
Having done this in the first 45 minutes of the game, they then scramble to find things to fill the remaining hour and a half so not as to go to the dangerous place without the missing half of the group.
Cue frantically digging notes out of my vault as they decide to follow up on plot threads from two years ago. OOC.
Nothing better than circling a dragon for 3 hours as you slowly rob them blind
First session of our new Daggerheart campaign is tomorrow night, and my players have been sending in the links to their character sheets in our group chat. Two of said player characters have the same first name, which will make for no confusion, I'm sure.
Ahh, realised I have to make one my (thankfully) infrequent minor retcons to the end of my last session. Just the last five minutes, but it always sits uncomfortably.
Scrimblo the Greater and Scrimblo the Lesser
This is likely the way, yes. I will not inform either of them which is which, either.
I had to do that once. Players found a challenge they hadn't the context for (my bad, I knew it was a risk and as soon as my players found out I was trying to stop them from going to a certain place, they beelined for it). Had one of the more faithful characters get a message from their god that was basically "come back later" and ended the session. Opened the next session like "Hey I'm gonna redo the message from your god because I've now had a week to think about it and have something much better"
Yeah, I've only ever had to do it a couple of times, but I realised they opened a door they really shouldn't be able to right now right at the end of the session, and therefore I need to have that Not Happen.
Literally the session ended on "The door opens with a burst of light", so it's not as if we're going back far.
Yeah. Sent them a message already.
Not the details, just that we will be redoing that five minutes.
But it sohuld be fine, they have a different plot thread to follow anyway.
The Door was just hte two-year old thread they picked up last session because half the party was away and they wanted to wait for them before they went to confront a villain.
a) spoilers, b) #1391790178435207290
My bad
Just sent my backup character to my irl DM after my character nearly died in the recent combat
I feel this threat should be enough
(my backup character is a fighter heavily based on Jetstream Sam)
Last Night on Archin Stream…
The party was met by a spiritual angler fish, then spawned into existence within a small creek in a decrepit ruin. They had no questions about this, and spent their time introducing their characters.
After making first acquaintances, then realizing they have known each other for 2+ years, they started to explore the ruin. In which they found: cultists, a tortured prisoner, and a sentient lock.
They spent most their time arguing with the lock.
After intimidating the lock to open, they found a metal-inscribed magic circle that seems to be powering the magic within the ruin. Inside that magic circle, was an eldritch figure who could only repeat the exact phrase spoken to it.
They dubbed this eldritch figure “stupid”, then moved on.
My favorite class for D&D are Paladins. And I usually play as Elves.
Love a good paladin 👏
-# or a not so good one
Bards and Clerics mostly. My favorite character in recent history was a Bard/Rogue Pseudo-Tank that used Panache and Uncanny Dodge to draw aggro from healers
i love that idea what instruments do you favour for your bards
He was actually a Dancing peacock Aaracockra
He just mouthed off and flashed his feathers
Though it is absolutely crazy how high you can get with a persuasion skill check when you got expertise and max charisma

okay, this might be silly to ask, but does anybody play MtA or knows anybody who does? I swear wherever I look I don't see even a hint of people talking about it
Accession or Awakening?
Ascension
Ah, then no. Never played it.
I don't even know if they did a reboot of that with new old WoD.
AFAIK no, at this point it's my personal pipe dream to see M5
There's not a lot of content about mage either, like actual plays or anything
It's too old for that, basically. M20 aside, the last content for it was punished over 20 years ago.
That's why I won't let go of dreaming of M5 coming out some time. Or, you know, playing it myself, which tbh looks to be increasingly more difficult, compared to other lineups
LOVE mage and I can’t wait for mage 5
However with everything going on at white wolf and a sixth edition of vampire coming out I think it’s pretty unlikely we’ll get it
I'm not sure it's the right place to ask, but is there a dedicated space to talk about mage with people? None of the people I know are really into it that much
Here?
New Kevin Crawford offering: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sinenomineinc/the-book-of-unnumbered-worlds
Pride month in the all undead evil pathfinder campaign
I feel like I need more context
Any context...
That would be this channel, which is appropriate for all ttrpgs. This server doesn't have separate threads for specific rpgs, just for Magic and Warhammer because we were too loud in the main thread
The characters are half siblings who hate each other very much. And also the players were jokign about it being pride month so someone whipped up a customized version of this meme https://fanlore.org/wiki/It's_Pride_Month,_You_Know_What_That_Means
