true and I could careless

wild salmon
#

Disagree. You arent on the first couple of pages regardless of TH.

Embargo made sure of that. Id say even first 20

formal badger
hidden fossil
#

Im pretty sure you needed to spend something like $120k? to completely skip the grind in all skills when TH was still a thing
I vaguely remember seeing a video about it.
Either way, im sure thats one cancer we are ALL glad is gone

HS was full before Squeal happened

silk hornet
#

I wonder if HS would still be relevant if mtx and all the op training methods were never introduced. Remember ages ago when a 99 was cool because it meant someone worked hard for it?

wild salmon
#

No they cannot. Literally cannot be 1st page using TH.

Embargo lasted 6 months. TH had no use.

cosmic wadi
#

the New Skills had a lockout for the first six months which was plenty for the nolifers who cared to lock the first pages

formal badger
wild salmon
#

So this means TH has no way of being the reason someone is on the 1st page.

You are aware theres a large number of people who have 5.8 without major TH use?

candid bloom
#

Doesnt really matter. Th bought a lot of spots, to where aiming to be there now is weird. Theres no prestige, but wasnt really anyways

formal badger
wild salmon
#

HS's do have a place still. New skills made sure of that and its still a major event for a lot of people.

Ig its hard to explain this if you arent able to compete or havent before.

candid bloom
#

Do they? Is it impressive that people can mostly max those skills spending often crazy amounts of money early trading for it?

silk hornet
#

It's kinda sad there's 0 prestige left in the game because they keep making things super easy Gnomechildcry

candid bloom
#

The only prestige is self challenge. Noone cares im a hardcore iron, nor should they. But i do.

wild salmon
#

Isnt there a hardcore iron at 5.8 šŸ’€

hidden fossil
#

We call those masochists

#

That was mostly a joke, but I could never do a hardcore

wild salmon
#

If they can do it, most dont have a reason for not being competitive for the next event for 6b exp.

Its not like its hard to skill.

wide condor
#

Going to go play the game, better things to do.

candid bloom
hidden fossil
#

Yea, the main reason I wouldn't bother trying it

candid bloom
#

Or being careless on low chance of death stuff. We're basically immortal in this game. It is rather hard to die

hidden fossil
#

Dcs, dead clicks, jank boss mechanics that don't trigger correctly, it isn't worth the stress to me

candid bloom
#

Yeah.

formal badger
hidden fossil
#

Honestly, they could leave every other annoying grind in this game, and just fix the dam dead clicks, and that would make a world of difference to me

candid bloom
#

Yeah, but when you arnt hc, you arnt stopping content on sign, or wearing RoD all the time. Using those, its legit hard to die, outside of things that bypass. And AG/telos are your biggest risks

hidden fossil
#

Honestly I'd avoid basically anyone with instant death mechanics

#

Such a terrible mechanic to make artificial difficulty spike imo

candid bloom
#

Just click teleport, its fine. But ag/telos.. you cant leave. So its the only real risk

#

Wanted to experience the content, so i downgraded to avoid the hassle in worrying about it

rigid pecan
#

highkey playing a hc sounds fun, if you play it like a regular iron and see how far you get and just continue as a regular one

oblique helm
#

still more than firemaking is for a skill

Pretty off topic though now

it still has the activate effect to tell you your best 3rd rune rofl

i have a feeling its either gonna be a wave 1/wave 2 kind of rollout, or theyll patch the cape next week.

....theres a LOT of oversight on items from stuff being removed so i dont doubt they got a busy workload going in that department

static scarab

Jagex did that to themselves. Sure people fresh out of school, don't have as high of a salary expectation. Older people with a history with the game, were all fired and replaced with the fresh out of school folks.

Black salamanders were a possible reward from the wildy events, Charming Moths were not.

At the very least, remove the requirement from the associated achievement, please.

Correct, it is death touched bracelet and brooch of the gods that are impossible to get for ironman skillers.

sand laurel
#

Sooo no more wicked hood charges?? that sucks for my clue hunting ease.

mellow jackal
hidden fossil
#

honestly aside from clues and maybe daily challenges, who really used the wicked hood that its ability to be charged with teleports needed to be removed?

hidden fossil
#

There was even purposefully a debuff on the hood that if you teleported with it you had a what? 30 or 60 second xp nerf so you wouldnt get anything but the base exp rate

#

So not seeing why it needed to have those teleport options removed at all
If anything the teletabs and wicked hood charges in the shop should have had like a 5-10x decrease in cost so teleports were cheaper, and point acquisition should have been bumped up more then 2x

#

Cause honestly with how the demonic skull buff is now baked directly into the RC skill, and abyss griefers have been killed off with the removal of said skull, runespan is not even really worth using anymore, atleast in my opinion

sand laurel
#

Even with the changes in never going bacl to that hellhole they call runespan
Its pure pain. I have my compt haha

But i did use the teles very frequently

Agreed, the point gain needs to be drastically increased or give another way of providing stackablr multi-alter teles.
Maybe crafting a generic Alter tele tab from PoH would be better

If i wanted to hate my life by grinding out shit repetitive content id play osrs

hidden fossil
#

Literally just remove the whole use it or loose it dailyscape part, and let them keep stacking charges up to a week or something, and suddenly dailyscape is no longer an issue

hidden fossil
#

Like that's all that needed to happen with every single one of the reward things they removed, just let them build up and be claimed when you wanted them, the whole problem goes away, and no one's mad they lost access to something

mellow jackal
#

similar to this, stack the daily rewards as weekly or monthly, there is no way ppl with a little of brain will do runespan for a few rc altar tps, it just doesnt pay the time invested there

hidden fossil
#

Runespan is really only useful for comp and the hungry hood for the expansive pouch now imo, but that might just be cause i see the available teleports as useless when the abyss exists anyway\

#

Like genuinely aside from cluers who would ever want to buy those?

wise sentinel
#

At least let us add tele tabs to the hood. That would at least arguably be pivoting the use towards something you earn, instead of something you’re given each day. But nope, gotta clear more bank slots for new tele tabs.

#

But yeah, the complaint about losing time in runespan is 100% valid. Why waste time earning points in runespan, when I can just walk to the altar faster than earning points? There’s literally no upside to earning points in runespan. It’s taking runespan from ā€œcontent that is bad but at least has a useā€ to ā€œcontent that is outright hostile to players.ā€

hidden fossil
#

To be fair there is a LOT of content that seems to be outright hostile towards players time

#

Runespan, livid farming, mage training arena, big chompy bird hunting, the list goes on

#

Whats kinda messed up about runespan though specifically, was back in the day, it was actually a great alternative to rc, cause it was so awful and risky to get the better xp rates otherwise, now its basically dead content, and a 2x boost to points does nothing to increase any incentive the place may have once held anymore, its simply not enough

Oh my god, thank you for this update. I've been an active player since 2005 and I'm so glad to see RuneScape taking right direction. I'm very happy to see that Jagex team has this vision that makes RuneScape exciting for me to log-in whenever I have time. I really enjoy the game. Thank you!

atomic tundra
#

This is awful. I'm trying it. But it's horrible. It's going to seriously cut my playing time, I always logged in every day. But with no dailies to do, UGH. I stand around looking at other stuff realizing I don't have the time to do them and wind up logging out looking for other stuff to do. I know there were a lot of dailies. i just picked the ones I wanted to do and done. Sandstone absolutely is HORRIBLE. It's ridiculously slow so I won't be doing that at all anymore. I'd rather have it limited and actually be able to mine it in a reasonable amount of time. Tonight there is no reason to log in. That makes me sad after almost 20 years of playing.

atomic tundra
# crisp shell Chores sounds like a 'negative' word to use here. There are players that like do...

Exactly. I’m not looking for them to do that. I don’t consider them chores. It was fun. It was quick and felt useful to my character. Trying to a quest or even some of the achievements takes too long at one time. I work full time and I care for an elderly parent with memory issues. So to have to stop during PVM is not optimal. This allowed a sense of accomplishment as well as being able to walk away without dying. I understand not everyone feels that way but they wanted feedback and this is mine.

good update jagex.

still much more reworking and updating that is possible for dnds/minigames/'extra' content and im definitely one player (20 year player) who supports being disruptive to old content to make it relevant and aligned to rs gameplay.

the daily challenges in their new form are somewhat harmless (even though i also prefer they remove entirely), and in sync with other changes promoting actual gameplay to earn extra exp eg div.

anything that doesnt fit with immersive, open world mmo play should be questioned. ignore detractors who loved dailies, that is a different style of gameplay, and even game, to what runescape is about.

Had a thought.. So with the price increases for memberships and removal of premier bonuses, there is less incentive to have a continuous sub to the game.

Is the backtracking of the complete removal of daily challenges just a way for Jagex to make players still login everyday?

If so, that is a lame move imo.

@tawny axle let's not state such claims like that, when the reasons are already explained in the blog

Why are many shops not updated at all? Why do some shops only have a 3.5x increase instead of 7x like with other shops?
Taverly and meilyr clan herblore shops aren’t updated at all whilst granny rowans has been updated
Ooglogs meat store has 3.5x
Daily pineapples from catherby guy went from 40 to 140 (3.5x)
Why???

vast forum

the stuff they changed affected all the shops plugged in to a general system, some shops just were not plugged into that and had their own code

slow trail

Also, they stated some shops overall weekly stock were reduced to avoid people buying them all up and selling them and crashing prices. So while meat has 3.5x instead of 7x, that was an intentional adjustment so as not to crash those meat prices.

mellow jackal

didnt try myself, but from what i read, ppl says like 15 min to get the same amount one could get before dailies changes (in 2-3 min)

hidden fossil
#

well i tested crystal sandstone, and with the full golem outfit and a t100 pick that i put careless4/explosive on, it takes me like 20 seconds to mine a SINGLE crystal sandstone from the regular rock

#

And with the fact is now takes stamina, if you dont click, that mining rate drops through the floor

#

It looks like they just copied banite ores stats and slapped an extra 100 hitpoints onto the rock

slow trail
#

Doesn't seem too bad, considering you can mine them indefinitely now. They have to get the balance correct.

hidden fossil
#

They need to stop trying to "protect the economy" of things in the game when making changes like this
Who cares if they can be mined indefinetely now? They werent exactly a bank breaking resource before this, and on top of it, the market will correct itself to compensate for changes like this, prices will drop, less people will do it cause its worth less now, these things have a way of self-correcting

#

If anything it just makes it a significantly more annoying resource to get for yourself

waxen moat

Personally, I'm on the other end. I like it way better now that I can mine it forever instead of once a day. How long they take to mine does need to be adjusted though.

Where does it say that? cause the person this was directed towards specifically confirmed they had never completed a slayer task

inner shadow
#

When I do slayer, I tureal skip, as it's way faster to hit the task(s) I need than boosting and skipping. This results in me always being at 0 streak, ie: I cannot seemlessly move over to reapers without going off and doing a streak of 5 tasks (which yes I could just go do jaq but this is just dumb)

cosmic wadi
#

Harold is acting as a slayer master, slayer masters have rules

It doesn't say that, that's the problem, it just happens tho. I'm 105 slayer I've definitely done 5 regular tasks before lol

hidden fossil
#

Fair enough

cosmic wadi
#

there's a significantly better argument that Reaper Tasks should now have a streak system for the slayer points than that you shouldn't need a streak to get points

inner shadow
#

Slayer streaks and reaper streaks should not be in any way interacting with each other, it makes no sense, they're 2 different things

cosmic wadi
#

Harold is giving you slayer points like a slayer master, slayer masters have rules about how points are given. Consistent things are Consistent

hidden fossil
#

I mean, ive said this before, but if we are treating reaper like slayer, we should ALSO have a block/prefer list, cause being locked into a garbage group boss until you complete 2 or more normal slayer tasks, only to roll anther different garbage boss, is terrible design

inner shadow
#

That's not consistent at all considering it's not a slayer task it's a reaper task you can have them both at the same time

hidden fossil

Honeslty you should be able to just spend war points on skips instead of slayer like someone else mentioned, cause this current method is not it

Or both realistically

Can we also point out how asinine it is that a game with an official website uses reddit as the primary place for posting game updates and mod dev logs? Like it would be one thing if these were included in the update page on the official website. But no, we need to go to a third-party website and dig through forum posts just to see what the mods may or may not be planning.

#

Like even being forced to Discord feels wrong. These should be posted directly on the update page for the relevant updates, on the official website.

Just feedback for Jagex. I stopped Runecrafting entirely. Without the additional 175 ess from the wicked hood, it isn't worth the time to go to the abyss, get to the time altar and craft a few runes. I used to put mine on the GE at whatever the mid price was. .... I've also stopped the fallen star D&D, and the sandstone gathering that would follow. congratulations on resetting the game to 2014; I played through that era once, really have no motivation to play through it again.

#

Oh, and the Runespan? You can forget about that. I spent way too many hours on main, alt1, and alt2 (last month), to unlock the additional wicked outfit pieces to get to 175 ess for each of them. Why would they go back?

Yes, much of the game has been made easier and easier, so that new players in a generation with a shorter time span to get hooked on a game, sticks around. Some people have called it evolution of the game. Remember when Dragon Chain Body was the best in the game? Having an abyssal whip was just awesome. The game has continued to evolve, which is what keeps people playing. When the game de-evolves, that creates a problem. People have to revert back to playing how we (they) used to play, and gotten past that era once.

keen olive
#

"nerfing anything about me in any way to any degree is de-evolution". In the time that they made the wicked hood, they "evolved" and improved virtually everything else about the skill in terms of rune production, XP rates, risk, to the point that certain bandaid designs weren't needed. A person joining the game and doing RC now would have a dramatically better time actually training and using runecrafting at the baseline than they would have a few years ago with a few daily free essences from the wicked hood. The only real exception would be someone not wanting to engage with the game outside of their login bonus

tight valley
#

i don't measure the progress of the game by the amount of friction there is in gameplay, friction often makes for a more interesting game, like you wouldn't say dark souls has evolved because all the bosses were suddenly far easier, and indeed, runescape doesn't evolve from skilling being made easier

however, just because there is friction, does not also directly equate to a more interesting game

That's funny because I never claimed to speak for new players, you invented that sentence on your own. What I do know for a fact is that a new player (using above definition) has no idea how these changes relate to the game as a whole.

For example, a new player wouldn't have any idea how much time it takes to get 99 mining. To that effect, they wouldn't have any clue how updates would relate to that.

IF these things were obvious to a new player, then why is one of prevailing complaints about the game is "that it's overwhelming"

Just a thing to point out

Can Jagex just revert the Soul Reaper Refresh to its original state bec it kinda makes no nsense in its current state

30 Slayer Points is not a big deal to use lol

And also, many players have Tier 3-4 or so already so its borderline useless, even when you need to spend points to change tasks

Besides, they will be gone next year and I kinda feel cheated that we were not even a heads up that this item would have a radically different use, instead of adding an extra task, which would have worked for the new system.

If you could do zuk you could arguably turbo run through fight kiln for haraken in similar times. Jad is the bigger chore but you could argue for upping his prize if no more variations are allowed to cheese the task.

In the meantime waiting for a more full adjustment, it's not really a huge deal to skip it. The rest of it is more than generous enough to offset that occasional annoyance. Way better than leaving it in for a week or more then having people act entitled to keeping it in, being compensated in buffs, or making it the new standard and raising everything else that high

the jad/haraken solution is terrible idea. I get that it was farmable and ppl were cheating it but there has to be a comprimise. I wouldnt stop people just doing waves 1-6 over and over for a Jad task but atleast thats got some time attached to it. An entire Cave or Kiln run for these tasks is huge time sink in comparison

You don't have to login every day now in order to get your vials. You can get them once a week.

hybrid hawk
# trim vessel can someone please explain to me why if we are removing "dailyscape" there are v...

Yes. Two reasons. Firstly, some shops have vital stock that could destabilise the economy if bought weekly in bulk. Other than that, secondly there is not a single script that runs all shops. This game is a ramshackle bunch of modules that were all added at different times by different programmers and a few shops that aren't part of the core code got missed. These will likely be added later.

silk nebula
#

Also some shops just dont need it. For example why would the bakers stall in ardy market need a weekly stock? It should be for shops where items have a high volume

trim vessel
silk nebula
#

They will most likely fill in the blanks on Monday

hybrid hawk
#

Most people will find it easier to remember to visit a shop once a week than every day on demand. That makes it more likely that items that would be forgotten, or skipped on days where someone couldn't be bothered, will instead enter the market and increase tradeable volume.

trim vessel
#

if their intention is to manipulate the market by protecting the influx of items they could simply increase the cost of item at the vendor

#

this is meant to be a QoL update lessening the burden on players doing daily tasks and as it stands causes people to complete additional daily and weekly tasks dependent on the item and vendor location based on rationale that goes against what they claim this to be accomplishing

silk nebula
#

I did all my shop runs on my ironman after the weekly reset all at once and I don't have to touch them again until the next weekly reset

#

Imo it is working as intended they just need to finish the last little bit of shops that need the updated stock

trim vessel
#

i agree with this, minus the fact a dev came out and said something about the fact they were possibly not going to update some shops due to concern of GE effects. the GE economy shouldnt be relevent when making changes like this in game. its either do the QoL update across the board or dont. the total stock available hasnt changed, only the easy in accessing it each week.

silk nebula
#

From what I understand that was the whole point of it. You dont have to worry about doing daily runs. You can let the stuff build up and buy it all at once. As an ironman I think there is plenty in the shops with the update

hidden fossil
#

They need to go back around and hit the shops they missed to be fair, but that likely wont happen till atleast monday at this point

#

And for a "dailyscape" overhaul, they certainly missed a LOT of annoying functional dailyscape things, like anachronia base camp, the arc, ports
Allegedly they will be going back for those, but i couldnt find any posts from jmods confirming that as fact

The teletab costs should be balanced so that the best xp method is farming runespan for tabs to do instant altar runs, while only abyss runs is only slightly worse and only runespan is just terrible.

dawn sonnet
#

It would be nice if shops restocked fully on the weekly tick instead of 1/7th on the daily tick. This would give a greater period time during which you could purchase maximum stock.

Currently, you still only have 24 hours before you start to lose out on potential stock. You just have to go once every 7 days.

Just QoL.

I disagree with this. Being able to pick between similarly strong choices is good imo or having a meaningful choice for which outcome you want. I kind of hate when there's 1 stand-out way to do something that's objectively better than everything else. I like when it's kind of pick what outcomes you want - exp -> runespan, or product (threads, runes) -> abyss, bit of both -> runespan + altar tablets.

I'm not sure where the Ouranian altar sits nowadays - I remember it being alright exp but it's worse than the abyss for exp and random runes is worse than being able to pick which kind you want too. Should that stay competitive at higher levels?

mellow jackal

Yeah it currently sucks. I read Terper's comment as it should remain sucky to do just that and that's what I was disagreeing with. I might have just read it wrong. tho'.

It's not even afk atm either but I'd be okay if it became that. Right now the creatures last 5 runes unless actively counting + reclicking them at fewer, and if going after nodes, need to be constantly checking if they're up and looking for the next one to go to while siphoning + planning a route. I think it's quite active.
The most afk element is a runesphere once found and even then need to keep an eye on it changing state since that stops you siphoning.
That could be tweaked to support afk training though. Possibly make floating ess give +100 (so it doesn't nerf the node-chasers who could do a creature for +45 ess or whatever it is), make creatures last for more runes (maybe 25/50) to support afking, possibly with diminished exp or success rate after the first 5 so those who prefer being more active can keep doing so and are rewarded for it.

#

Or maybe enable 3-ticking or whatever (like how divination rewards actively clicking the springs) - I see a mix of people who enjoy that and people who enjoy less active training or being more social at the cost of exp the times I've been to the hall of memories core gatherings at least. Is that too strong? Idk.

Now that quick teleports take law runes, can they give a little bit of magic xp? Maybe each location could take a different combination of runes, and you could unlock different destinations by training magic?

I think if they are to grant magic xp, it should 1) be toggleable (locking skillers out of quick teleports would be bad); and 2) be scaled to the lowest theoretical magic level at which the quick teleport can be cast (for most this will be level 1 and so maybe award 10-ish xp; for bandit camp it would be 50 and award similar xp to the ardougne teleport spell etc)

i think the tick system is what the majority of new players don't get on with, and what, if anything, makes this game feel like a low quality mobile game. i cant help but think this current course of action is only going to alienate the group of users that will forgive that style of qwerky gameplay (really only people with the nostalgia for the good old days) and ultimately not attract any new players because that system is not friendly to new players. maybe the devs goals should be to reattract the people they lost with their past mistakes rather than try with a new audience that doesn't fit their platform

All these complaints about "dailyscape" - quite frankly, many days that's all I feel like playing. No one EVER had an requirement to take advantage of daily things. If they FELT obligated, that's on them to not realize if they don't want freebies and rewards, don't do the little work necessary to obtain them. I have less and less incentive to sign in anymore, as I dont have several hours a day to grind like I used to. Congrats on doing everything possible to make the game a reward for the richest oligarchs, give those who arent super wealthy nothing as punishment for being less than super wealthy, and driving away longtime loyal players who want the ability to play casually and get some reward simply for their longevity and loyalty. • Strongly incentivizes leveling up as a direct economic benefit

Solution 2 (Points Cap) is a fairness-focused system:

  • All players earn the same maximum weekly points, regardless of level
  • New players feel respected (not disadvantaged for being new)
  • Requires high-level players to be more selective about tasks (efficiency reward)
  • Reduces time commitment for veterans (fewer tasks needed to cap)
  • More complex UI (players must track points, not just task count)
#

Which is better?

Choose Solution 1 if:

  • You want progression to feel tangible and rewarding beyond gear/stats
  • You want to retain and motivate long-time players
  • You're okay with veteran players earning significantly more for the same effort
  • You want the simplest possible rule for players to understand

Choose Solution 2 if:

  • Fairness and equality across player levels is a priority
  • You want to avoid complaints about gatekeeping rewards behind level requirements
  • You want to reward efficiency (knowing which tasks to pick) over pure time investment
  • You don't mind that veterans might feel their progression is being "capped"

Hybrid option to consider: A modified task cap where the cap scales slightly with level—e.g., level 10 = 12 tasks max, level 50 = 15 tasks max, level 80 = 18 tasks max. This gives veterans a modest advantage while keeping the system simpler than a points cap, and reduces resentment from new players.

I'd have to go for option 2. That way I can still do more tasks to train my slayer.

easy option 2.

its just weird. you dont need top level players to always be getting the most of everything, or be the most efficient. they arnt even the most in need of points, either. everyone should get the same amount, although its fine if harder content gets it done faster. but some people insist on making every part of earlygame garbage just so they can feel better about being endgame

...what's the issue with the current system?

i assume they think that endgame players arnt superior enough

How? If it's only a point cap, then you can keep doing Reaper Tasks for the slayer XP after getting your weekly cap of points.

If you manage to get like, let’s say a dragon task, and then get a dragon boss, you can get more xp out of it. Specifically you get xp per kill + reaper completion

I kinda like the idea of the cap preventing rewarding points when hit but still allowing you to gain full points

Eg:

  • if I'm at 300 points, any new tasks will not give any reaper points
  • if I'm at 280 points, I have the choice of taking a 20 point task (hitting 300), a 40 point task (hitting 320) or an 18 point task so I can then get a 40 point task later, hitting 338. It adds a bit of strategy for those who want to min-max it
  • players who hit the cap of 300 will be happy. Those who exceed the cap will be extra happy
  • way better than someone being at 298, doing a difficult task without knowing how close they are, and getting a measly 2 points and feeling sad

It's probably mainly jsut a bonus that they can train slayer with just reapers
