I wonder what's happening to the Daemonheim area task set now auras are going away? I suppose the Daemonheim aura didn't really show as part of the physical set, but is this going to set the precedent that new area task sets aren't tied to a specific item in a slot (now that the slots are all occupied anyway), do we gat multiple items competing for the same slots, or... Maybe set items that combine together to make ultimate task set equipment?...

stable burrow
#

i can only assume they're going to add more task set equipment

#

havenhythe is 100% going to have its own set of tasks and task equipment

For ports, I noticed that since the update, if you click the captain's log, it no longer shows this as the first screen (see image below). Instead, I have to click on the arrows twice to get to that screen now. Would be great if either this could be the default screen again, or if as a "default" it opens on whichever screen you were on when you last opened it.

It is just something small, but this worked perfect for which I needed it before (namely, to have a quick check to see if/which ships have finished), and having to do the extra clicks is a needless QoL downgrade.

#

i have 2 complaints about the update.
my first is that the ui recolour should have been an option. give us the blue back.
second why in hell did they fuse the map with the clock?
my clock has been in the same place on my ui for years and years and now when i look to it it's not there.

My guess is that they hope for customizations to come with the benefits that API plugins will bring, instead of spending resources as a company. Just a guess 🙂 sorry, I forgot to click enter when you asked me that last night!

Regarding the planned "aura removal"; I hope consideration will be given to all of the auras purchased through loyalty points, and that there will be some sort of compensation/reimbursement.

I've been gradually using up my points for years for those auras, as a sense of "never know I might need them"; it felt more useful than to use loyalty points on cosmetics which ultimately are just that; cosmetics. So it is frustrating to learn that those points where spent on something that will be removed, while I could instead have gotten titles or other cosmetics that would not be disappearing from my account.

oblique flame
#

It seems like they plan the removal of all auras, as per the news post. My personal remark however is specifically for compensation of spent loyalty points. Frankly it would be nice to see all auras that are removed be compensated for somehow in terms of whatever currency was spent on them, but I reckon for some it is less sore of an issue than for others. To me at least, the loyalty points in particular are a pain point in that.

dense wharf
#

To me my hard earner reaper points or the 3 bonds spend on mahjarrat would be a bigger issue 🙂

#

Then some points i didn't have to work for that have no real game affecting capabilities 😛

#

But yeah would be nice to get something back for stuff spent on all auras

oblique flame
#

Fair. As I said, I'm only commenting based on the issue that came to mind for me personally. But I think it is good to address all of this as a sort of feedback here (not just my personal concerns, of course) so hopefully the staff sees and will take this into account well ahead of time.

solar belfry
#

At least historically they didn't do reimbursement for these types of things, because you still got use out if it. At least now that there's a known timeframe, any purchased past that point as well would be generally considered notified it will change and would invalidate the need to refund anything really

And by the time you could have gotten them, and the announcement, most aura users would have had a fair but of use already

dense wharf
#

^^ also that

solar belfry
#

So i personally would not look at aura removals with expectations of reimbursement

#

If they do that would be an EXTREME case of good grace repayment, very unlikely to happen realistically

oblique flame
# solar belfry At least historically they didn't do reimbursement for these types of things, be...

I fear as much, yes. It's just my personal grievance, in that I never really used the ones I got with loyalty points. I just got them as a "might as well have them in case I ever want to use them" as they ultimately have a functionality, unlike the cosmetics. So it really bites that I will just lose them, and now I won't even have the cosmetics. Had I known this back in the day, I would simply not have gotten those auras, and opted for the cosmetics instead.

Still, even if it is unlikely that they will address it, it still feels useful to at least throw the concern out there, now that there may still be time and willingness for them to take this into account prior to executing that update.

solar belfry
#

Yeah, i just know unfortunately people will read your previous comment and sadly spread it around as a game if telephone "Jagex is refunding auras!", as it happens every single time someone says similar for removed content. 😅

So i wanted to make sure it was known "just incase", as if they do reimbursement, thats grand. But higher on the unexpected side, personally.

oblique flame
# dense wharf to be fair. Wouldn't the same have been for the cosmetics? Probably never used b...

Yes, but the idea was that it is a permanent account unlock. The cosmetics (at least based on the info currently known) will not disappear. Meanwhile I invested the currency (loyalty points) into an unlock that does will now disappear. So in that sense I am missing out on the chance for unlocks that could have remained tied to my account instead of just disappearing.

Naturally, games change overtime and you cannot know everything ahead of time. But still, it would be nice for the players if there is some sort of compensation kept in mind. It seems unlikely, but if no one speaks up to even point it out, it is certainly not happening.

Its one of those domino effects i try to reclarify to prevent bad expectations and players making X player comment into a jagex promise of Y as... Well... People tend to shoot the messenger, and its either the one reclarifying or the OG Comment, so i'd rather be the bad guy there

oblique flame
# solar belfry For context, i already seen 2 people want YEARS of runemetrics refunded. And i m...

No I agree that is inherently unreasonable.

I do wish to stress though that the point I am making refers to a) a free currency, which would not require actual refunding out of the company's pocket, b) I am not "demanding" it, just throwing it out there as a "hey, would be nice if you could keep this in mind with the update!" and c) I am aware it is unlikely, nor do I expect a full 'refund'. It would just be nice if staff is aware of this matter, and would provide some small gesture of goodwill, so to speak. I apologize if my remark came across otherwise.

solar belfry
#

No worries you didn't do anything wrong, i just reclarify just incase to not setup other expectations where others demand

You're still able to do constructive feedback and wishes-type stuff, my things were just as i mentioned that's all.

I wonder how many people ever used Mahjarrat aura for divine locations. Probably about 4.

5% divine location resources is such a minor increase (like 3 rocktails or something) that it’s not worth the time to click to activate it even if you aren’t planning on combat that day.

dense wharf
#

If you want to see cosmetics just don't turn toggle them off 🙂

peak plaza
#

As it is, you can play with likeminded people that like and want to see cosmetics

dreamy cipher
# dense wharf May i ask why you think its a bad idea to remove them?

It's core RuneScape. The key thing about RuneScape is that you can drop in and out of activities. You can do Fishing whenever you want, or do an hour on Aura for a little boost, change to Mining for an hour, change to Hunter for an hour... The more casually you play, the more time you can be doing something with an Aura. It's just much more relaxed and encourages switching between tasks, core RuneScape

peak plaza
#

There will just be some people you encounter that don't see them in the crowd too

dense wharf
#

To me it feels like they discourage switching between things and want me to jsut do the same thing for 1 hour blocks

quick cosmos

bring ur phats in ur presets they trying to toggle them lol

WHile it would be better to have other permanent unlocks doign the same thing to remove the "do this for an hour or your aura is wasted"

Overall, very exciting stuff!

  • I'm giving the UI changes a chance. So far it's weirdly different but I don't hate it
  • 120 Construction scares me 'cause that's one of the expensive ones to train 🙈 But also it's very exciting to see what everyone makes with better house tooling, and what construction outside of the house looks like
  • Havenhythe is exciting! I know there's a good amount of info out about it already from the streams and such which I've ignored, and plan to explore blind so will skip any future info/trailers if I can
  • I absolutely want to know more about the black chinchompa lore when it lands. With how very hush-hush you're being, I'm getting a feeling that they're more sinister than they appear, a bit rabbit from monty python vibes
  • simpler combat is good. Altho' I'm a revolution user so likely won't change anything for me 😅
  • player avatar updates seem cool, don't personally have any problem with what we have currently but will see how differently I feel when it drops ^^

Keep up the good work and being as transparent about stuff as you have been, it's appreciated 💜

peak plaza
#

Auras dictate and change your play, and not in a way that gies freedom to drop in and out and play on your own schedule

#

instead, you play on the aura's duration and cooldown schedule

quick cosmos
#

are the cosmetic auras also going?

dreamy cipher
#

I think the cooldown when you deactivate early shouldn't include the rest of the time it could've been active, that's one small gripe

peak plaza
#

Given that the goal is to redistribute some (so, what makes sense to redistribute) of auras powers elsewhere, you can get the benefit of the aura but much more flexibility to just play when and how you want to than auras could ever do

dreamy cipher
peak plaza
#

I don't think its limited to just pvm, I think its true for skilling auras and the like too

dense wharf
#

Skilling on arc islands being a pretty annoying example there

#

I want to efficiently clear my islands of wobbegons bamboo and crabs which takes an hour. but i'd have to waste all 3 auras to do so "efficiently"

quick cosmos
#

i've never stopped mining because i ran out of aura but it is a good timer on how long you've been engaging w/ said activity

dense wharf
#

Or i have to jsut waste most of the island to make good use of each aura

winter axle
#

Artificial timegating.

dreamy cipher
dense wharf
#

We don't have to. But many players would like to do everything as efficiently as possible. And auras are just a painful hinderance to that goal

low elm
#

Yeah, the push for efficiency often ruins the fun, but it can also be great motivation. Eg: here's my wee wishlist I made of stuff I want to get. I'm likely missing other stuff too

what are the odds that they'll rework slayer so tasks are less RNG dependent? With the recent update, I’ve noticed that exp gain text is smaller? Has anyone else noticed this? It seems squashed together (the text), was this supposed to be changed or is it a bug that’s going to be addressed?
Other than that I think everything else is exciting and a good change.

harsh chasm
#

and some of the stronger monsters are designed to be difficult to kill in ways a player isn't necessarily ready to deal with

#

it sucks to have to pay to avoid getting stuck on a task like that

#

compare being able to do a task more frequently because you preferred it to getting to do it more frequently because you get to choose from a list

#

I figured they could have a cooldown like when you force a task with the masks and can pay points to reset the cooldown

potent yoke

whats the point of removing treasure hunter if theres still going to be blatant pay to win?

reading everything as a potential returning to rs3 from osrs player, removing keys does nothing for game integrity if you are just going to shove in a different pay to win avenue?

peak plaza

While I have a big distaste for the bxp bundles

TH had direct xp as skips in forms of lamp and the like, while at least BXP has a ceiling to how much it can affect things

queen skiff

They did the TH experiment last year with another type of bundle on top, we got that cut at least

They don’t deserve it but it is how it is. Play how you want I guess? I don’t support selling bxp either but TH was always everywhere bad for the game.

Font over buff/debuff bar icons still seems quite hard to read. Below (or above?) is the snip from my buff bar. It came out quite small but looks like if there is timer ticking down in brackets the whole font was put into bold - which is great and this font perfectly visible. However other timers are really hard to see, especially if they are over defensive abilities which are all shades of white/silver.

Before update i had my icons on medium, now they are on large and i still struggle seeing things. Simply applying bold to all timer fonts would go a long way.

In regards to Aura removal, will that include cosmetic auras, such as the Catalyst Leagues aura?

solar belfry

They're more meaning functional auras, ones which are just cosmetic (like overrides) are more than likely to stay.

Depending on how they're handled, they may potentially rename the slot, but that's entirely a future type thing

So the only real outliers would realistically speaking be what to do with the pantheon effects, and the dungeoneering set aura.

(Convert to a trigger somewhere? Convert some as a passive automatically at certain case uses? Etc)

Excellent Update Mates 💯 this new UI looks refreshing and I appreciate your almighty efforts into making the 25 year old GOAT Runescape 3 (and it's little brother OSRS) into the Dynastic Beasts they should have been in the first place.

I believe the best is yet to come and that Runescape 3 ||(and/or 4 if that is coming out? 🤯 we dunno but that'll be lit whenever it happens either way) || will reach GREAT heights.

For........ this roadmap is one of the **best **in the Industry (I state this as a outsider/Casual or Super Sweaty Gamer Enthusiast.)

With that said - I believe Jagex shall 100% bring Runescape 3 back to it's top at the top of the Mount Rushmore of GAMING/MMORPGS... where they (Jagex, the TITANS OF INDUSTRY) shall then put 4 different facial expressions of Mod North or ... hmm, y'all can think about this part be creative but do it BIG once Runescape 3 reaches the Top once more.

It is only a matter of time and great updates ahead.**

In conclusion: **We rockin' with you Jagex - til H, E, DOUBLE HOCKEY STIX, or High Water, friends. We have come this far, lfg.

First of all; Thank you for all the work you are doing upgrading and improving the game. I'm exited about the Roadmap for the next year!
It seems that a lot of the work has been put into giving new players a better experience. Also some features has been made available for all players.
I'm not saying this is bad, but I've heard very little about how you will "compensate" the features you have removed from Premium players. I'm not saying it is wrong to remove TH, but to be honest, it has sort of taken away the one of the main reasons for paying premium. All I'm saying is that it is important you don't forget us because there needs to be some sort of "gain" in paying extra...

  • NPCs with objects integrated into their model were either updated or removed.
  • World Map icons had their anchor/pin removed (the pointer bit).
  • Group system teleport to Flesh-Hatcher was removed.
  • The skillguide for coal/silver ore no longer recommends level 5 agility for the west Falador mine.
#

_ _
There's a ton of interface changes as you'd expect.

A ton of fonts were changed, colors were changed, and functionality of several bits were changed. I probably won't compile everything but here's some non-obvious stuff:

  • Players can no longer swap login backgrounds.
  • Edit Layout Mode now has a new interface with categories.
    • Most default presets were removed.
  • Game Calendar replaced its Treasure Hunter category with a Marketplace category.
  • Marketplace interface was remade and has a few different functions.
  • “Trade * Assist” renamed to “Requests” in the chat interface.
    • Respective buttons combined.
#

_ _
There's also several MTX changes as you'd expect once again not a full list.

  • Most references to Treasure Hunter were removed.
  • Solomon's General Store was removed.
  • Wardrobe categories renamed:
    • Solomon's Store -> Store
    • Treasure Hunter -> Tradeable.
  • A large number of cosmetics had their params updated to align with new Marketplace interface.
  • Lobby banners were replaced with a Marketplace banner and a Bundle banner.
  • Vic's store/DXP Token shop have been cleared out.
  • Premier vault and Premier artefact were both removed.
#

I've gone through most of the changes, but the biggest batch are all the graphical changes, and there's a lot.

Massive amount of map changes as you'd expect, but over 3k objects/locations were added or modified graphically. Nearly every surface world map square was impacted as a result.

Daily challenge rewards on the F2P track could use some rework.

  • There's still silverhawk downs on it despite that being associated with a P2P skill and item. 0 use for F2P.
  • With the removal of Treasure Hunter, there's no way for F2P to obtain the spring cleaner anymore, meaning that all tight springs are practically unusable if you don't have one. It's now also odd to award these from the get go on fresh accounts for a drop cleaner that is now locked behind 43 invention (and hence 80 crafting, divination and smithing).
  • With the reduction of DXP events, cinder cores also have less use.

Can we get some consistency with the skybox. I was just checking out the changes around south Fally and you can have a beautiful blue sky then **take two steps slightly north **and it looks like a dreary dark sky that makes no since at all. and you get the same in a 360 view so the sky to the south which was blue looks the same dark. I can understand when going to a swamp or an area that is a dark theme but this is the same area and it changes. I have to keep messing with the skybox settings all the time. And can we just get rid of the fog period. It really makes it hard to see. You don't like driving in it why do I want to run around a town like Falador in it?

near olive
#

I can clear the skybox after going two steps north from the same spot clearing it will make it bright and blue again then walk south again sky stays blue then turn around and go north again and the sky turns dark again. I go back to skybox setting and hit clear skybox and the sky turns back blue and will stay that way running north but if I run south again and then run north the same path the sky turns dark and I have not changed any settings. It will do it even if I set it to Midday which is my preferred skybox. Filter is also cleared but it still does it.

#

While I don't mind so much that Armadyl's tower is removed but at least give us some sort of view when we go up into it. I loved the view of Port Sarim and Falador form up there. Even if it's just clouds it would be nice.

near olive
#

(skybox doesn't matter in this case) but when you zoom out everything gets washed out in fog. I play zoomed out and this area was fine before I could see everything clearly even zoomed out. It shouldn't have this much of a dramatic difference.

# near olive Can we get some consistency with the skybox. I was just checking out the changes...

This was one of my complaints about the south falador rework. That the area looks like it's winter or autumn but the biome is right next to port sarim, mudskipper point and karamja. Those areas are just fun summer vibes instead of winter-y vibes. I tried to argue that it has winter trees like spine trees instead of leaf summer trees but people thought those trees exist in summer areas too. It still comes off-wintery though

The lack of optimization is really unfortunate; the point of the visual update in F2P areas was to give a good first impression, and lagging and stuttering is a horrible first impression (as well as sucking for existing players).

When it comes to the combat update in February, will Attack, Strength, Ranged and Magic all go to 120 at the same time? That's a lot of 120s to train. And if that's the case, why not increase defense too? Or is it simply to bring the other styles accuracy/damage in line with Necromancy? Just kind of feels weird to leave defense in the dust at this point. And what about Constitution? Prayer? Summoning? Even just getting additional hitpoints/prayer points with those levels would be awesome. Doesn't seem to completely break the game but gives a little more wiggle room for those who aren't high end PVMers.

near olive
#

The dramatic skybox changes between Lumbridge and the swamp while better than the murky fog that it had at first the transition between them does nothing but break immersion to just looks odd that the sky looks dark over both Lumbridge and the swamp when looking back towards Lumbridge and vice versa and the suddenness of it as well. Unlike when going to Canifis you go either under Paterdomus or use the agility shortcut which hides the transition by action or by being underground. But when walking/running in or out of the Lumbridge swamp it is an almost jolting change and plus there's that strange way the sky looks over Lumbridge when looking from the swamp and again vice versa. I think just making the sky slightly dark rather than the dramatic dark it is in the swamp would help or just have the whole aera the same skybox, we never needed it before. Another way to fix it would be to make your character perform an action getting into and out of the swamp, but you still have that odd sky looking back from where you came from. In the screenshots I'm just running along the wall in the Lumbridge side but the skybox changes for a short bit and then goes back to the bright sky just past the edge of the wall. It just seems like so much needless changes going on because if you head toward Draynor it changes again.
