We get it you like the update but others are here trying to discuss their frustrations lol 😂 don’t gas light us now

lol.. ok then

Yours and others issues only needed to be mentioned once, not spend over an hour screeching about the same thing when you're not the only people that have issues/concerns

#

I never said I didn't have any issues with today's update either

#

So nice assumption there

I would definitely prefer gray over brown at least

in conclusion:
if anything, the new ui should have been a third, default option to oldschool and modern

And?

An issue is still an issue

Make an actual point or move on

I also myself said that the options should've remained for those that wanted it

Wasn’t an asssumption , by your own words

Love the new interface but why remove all auras, took ages to get them in the first place, some of them very useful, like Penance or Greenfin
gers!

unborn monolith
#

They're going to have their effects baked into skills instead in the future most likely

#

Based on what the blog post says

#

That way there won't be the need to keep them

ionic flume
#

This is very true. Notably for ui color changes which shouldn't be difficult to implement

dense wharf
ionic flume
#

Really hoping they replace auras with Agility given buffs via stretches or even construction buffs really

pallid spruce
#

They are getting rid of auras too?

cunning robin
# pallid spruce They are getting rid of auras too?

that is the intent, yep:

That's why, this spring, we intend to fully remove all Auras. No more Aura Refreshes, no more limited peak efficiency - just a more enjoyable gameplay loop. Meanwhile we will investigate if those benefits can be moved to be part of the core game experience.

pallid spruce
#

wonder if they are refunding loyalty points

dense wharf
#

You'll know when the time of removal comes

#

No need to panic before then

#

And even if they don't. You won't be losing anything

reef siren
# pallid spruce wonder if they are refunding loyalty points

Refunding to what end, surely there isn't enough in the store for people to even buy if you factor out the huge cost of auras? With the way this game is going they're more likely to remove everything from the loyalty store entirely (and points) and force you to use runecoins to buy them

dense wharf
#

You alreayd don't have the loyalty points anyways. And if they just put the aura effects ingame somewhere it's all the same

Brilliant to see a move in the right direction!

short first impressions of everything in the post:

  • the road to restoration: very happy to see a commitment to getting the game to where it needs to be, hopefully this continues into 2027 as well.
  • treasure hunter is no more: GOOD RIDDANCE Gorfspin Gorfspin Gorfspin
  • ui update, a new look: so i've been dabbling into old school for the past month and the stone ui ribbon really resonates with me, especially the classic layout, but all the icons in one big line isn't actually far enough for me, i would like it if they could be in two lines, laid out roughly the same order that fixed mode in osrs has them.
  • visual update, cosmetic toggles: the big one for me here is pets and familiars, i see that its "coming soon" hopefully very soon! the other stuff is nice to have as options too.
  • visual update, misthalin/asgarnia: one of my key complaints about rs3 right now is exactly that inconsistent visual standard, osrs runs an extremely tight ship whem it comes to visual identity and fidelity, major improvements need to be done across the entire game, not just the f2p areas.
  • free runemetrics: i'm sure many would say it should have been free from the start, and it probably should have, one can only hope this decision is made with a good financial basis in mind, but maybe its another one of those necessary hits to the bottom like like treasure hunter removal, who knows.
  • combat update, style modernisation: the closer we can get the old styles to those core essentials and the same level of clarity as necromancy, the better. excited to talk more about this when its a bit closer.
    • aura removal: most of the auras i won't miss, they're just making numbers bigger and that effect in most cases can be put almost anywhere, even incorporated into the baseline effectiveness of the skill, but there are a select few i think bear mention as ones that should be a priority for effect relocation: equilibrium, penance, resourceful, vampyrism, aegis. some of these have items ingame already with similar effects, but a key point of auras despite their limited time usage is that they are free to use and relegating these effects solely to their current ingame counterparts will cause issues. especially for penance.
  • balance update, new beginnings: i think making people feel like they aren't just waiting to reach endgame and instead find enjoyment with where they are in the game is an admirable goal, though perhaps a losing battle
  • game update, life after dailies: my ideal is no hourlies or dailies, some of them can continue to exist if they employ the fish flinger way of being a daily (you save up charges every day up to a cap which can then be spent all at once) but many of them are redundant and tedious.
  • game update, ge improvements: great! the move people are encouraged to use the ge and the more accurate the prices in it are, the less scamming via direct trading or luring will happen.
  • game update, api plugin support: this is probably the one thing that will bring runescape into its own golden age more than anything else, once every little valid gripe that somebody has can be addressed by a plugin rather than waiting on the slow, sometimes bureaucratic way through jagex development, i think we'll be a much happier playerbase as a whole as a result.
  • Havenhythe: say no more, i'm in. (and intentionally skimmed this to not spoil myself too much)
  • LEAGUES II: YES YES YES, MORE LEAGUES, and it looks like, based on the language in the post, that you've learned the lessons you needed to for this second one, extremely excited for this!

okay that's all my immediate thoughts sorry for wall of text Pedro

I'm honestly just stoked for the 3rd party client potential for rs3 lol

pallid spruce
reef siren
# pallid spruce You can get other cosmetics with loyalty points, so was wondering if I could get...

That's the thought but with what Jagex have said about wanting to remove the mtx currencies (already with oddments, future for TH currencies) - although they haven't said anything about removing loyalty points/store AFAIK, I think that will be a lot more likely than them continuing to cater to multiple storefronts.. Just look at what's being displayed in the marketplace, all of these 1k runecoin outfits and bundles, that's only a sign of what's to come. Gotta keep that store fresh so bond prices don't crash now that TH is gone.

pallid spruce
#

god I hope bond prices crash

Have they just removed the loyalty store? I can't find it anywhere, just still able to find the cosmetically manually clicking every buyable cosmetic until I find one purchasable with loyalty points

Hi, why am I getting forced to look at a clock under the minimap, that doesen't show me my correct timezone.
Previously we had the option to hide it. Thats gone now. And an option to change the timezone is also not there.
Has someone found a fix?

primal gust

I just always accessed it from in game and they took away every way to open it in game as far as I can tell, will check the website

dense wharf
fluid shoal
#

I have a concern about the API update. One part of plugins that I dislike is that it can make the game feel like you are fighting the mechanics of the game (tick system, floor tiles, optimal abilities) versus fighting a boss. For instance, if a plugin can use the optimal pvme rotation and highlight which buttons to press when you need to press them, the gameplay becomes completely changed and ability's effects no longer matter.

My suggestion is to limit some of the tools that creators will have available to them specifically in regards to highlighting or otherwise indicating abilities. I am personally ok with floor tiles although I think they may have a similar effect.

Looking forward to this year!

dense wharf
#

I have 0 faith that they'll limit the plugins in a good way

#

Outside of the super obvious bad ones

please for the love of god unattach the clock from the map, it does not belong there... i need my map space

Not wanting to engage with the game is the main reason people want plugins in the first place

#

That and swapping menu entries i gues

marble temple
# vestal spear Hi, why am I getting forced to look at a clock under the minimap, that doesen't ...

The first thing i noticed when I logged on. I see that they gave us the option to switch between circle and square mini map. Would also be nice to have the option to switch between the clocks as well. Much preferred how I had my UI previously when it came to my clock settings/placement.

Need to read through everything again for the roadmap and todays update. Finding some minor inconsistencies with the UI change between PC and mobile. Still some of the old color/style on mobile - at least I think so/on my particular phone?

At a quick glance, it looks like a pretty solid year ahead. Legit the first time I'm seriously interested in the roadmap in years. Spring-Autumn look stacked.

Theres several things alt1 does which could be plugins that dont detract from the game - necromancy job bar gives a better (imo) ui for necromancy. Afkwarden doesnt detract from gameplay (unless you think tracking 15 min timer to not get logged is part of the gameplay experience)

Some stuff like clue trainer absolutely is used to avoid solving the clue puzzles and such.

obtuse scroll
dense wharf
primal gust
#

Yeah, changing something that used to be 1 click to forcing another menu isn't great, especially for how little space the arrows took up

#

another thing that I wouldn't mind if it were a toggle, but just forcing it to be different than the last 15(?) years is annoying

marble temple
# stiff hare I would like to second this. Plugins can be great, and really add to the gamepla...

Idk man, I used Blitz for LoL and that did not detach me from the gameplay. To be honest, it made it more enjoyable. It gave me the "average" or "optimal" setup. Once i saw the rotation, I could go in and read what each of those abilities did, THEN i would understand why it is the way it is. Versus jumping around from ability to ability and trying to remember what each one does and why and how and trying to build it myself. I have the same issue building MTG decks. Its information overload and I cant do anything with it.

Ideally people would use it as training wheels.

I dont even want the old dark blue. Give me more colour options. A sexy maroon ui is all i want.

primal gust
#

I wonder if it isn't part of their plan to make the game look more like the old interface for streaming specifically, because why else would giving people a choice bother them at all?

lilac veldt
#

i liked someone's suggestion from earlier - just give us a colour wheel; let us pick whatever colour we want; it literally doesn't fucking matter what the UI looks like in terms of branding lmfao

fiery onyx
marble temple
# stiff hare Idk much about LoL or Blitz, but for mtg, imagine if you had a plugin that told ...

It doesnt give/tell you WHEN to play a certain ability or anything like that. It does set up your Runes/Spell automatically, Tells you the optimal path on the abilities to level up, and the items to buy. I could see something like that being very useful.

As far as something telling me when, vs MTG the field is always changing. Dont the combat cycles stay roughly the same in RS bosses (please forgive my ignorance - I dont boss)? Something like either of those options would be great for someone like me who cant get in to bossing for pretty much those reasons.

stiff hare
#

Bossing is, for the most part, extremely consistent, especially with optimized rotations. The main difference im seeing is that is kinda the entirety of the gameplay. In my opinion, telling people exactly which buttons to press at what times to execute a rotation is getting very close to just playing the game for them.

crimson loom
#

Personally I like the new UI, for the most part, I think the brown UI fits the theme of RuneScape more than the blue UI. Thinking back, the blue UI was probably too modern for the medieval fantasy world of RuneScape.

When I say "for the most part" and this follows what others have already said, the bank being slightly too dark and the clock being attached to the minimap.

I use the square minimap and the bare bar below just for the clock spoils it, I understand that it's connected for consistency with the circle minimap, but that could be fixed by having the clock as its own movable display again.

As for the bank, either it needs to be brightened slightly or the saturation reduced. Perhaps swapping the lighter colour of the title bars with darker colour of the active areas.

cerulean python
#

Ik it's been said many times, but just adding my voice to the crowd.

Please let me choose between the blue interface I've been using since it released and the brown one, instead of forcing the brown on me

feral atlas
#

Please let us have the option to have different colors and intensity settings for the UI.
This update actually hurts my eyes >.<

tribal sluice
#

The "forced" UI colour scheme being this particular type of brown makes objects difficult to discern in windows like the Bank window etc for myself and many others. The colour balancing is really off compared to before. Some of the text also seems double? Like one of those old printing errors where two images printed over each other weren't fully aligned? Please allow for a couple of visually helpful colour variants! The previous blue didn't give me the same obstacles I'm facing now, for example, but if you really want to keep blue in the past, other, less rich colours would also do.

marble temple

#

The roadmap looks great, but man this new UI is pretty ugly. They really need to give us some option to choose the interface colors, with a primary/accent color or something. The brown is BAD.

Also, the clock being permanently attached to the minimap eats way too much space. The ability to detach it and move it around freely again would be great.

As for aura removal, it'll be interesting to see what you guys end up doing with that cuz we do love our auras and the choice between different ones for different slayer tasks for example (vamp vs penance etc). Or the skilling auras that we all quite enjoy, hopefully there's' a way to still benefit from the same bonuses auras provide even if they are added to certain levels like 99/120s.

Absolutely. But I also think the people who have them already neeed to be able to access them immediately. My increased mining damage should not be restricted behind content I didn't have access to. stiff hare
#

Another point - the existence of auras makes it more difficult to balance stuff.

strong plover
# ashen bluff They're bringing rates for the older targets up to be in line with the newer one...

That's fine, and if they put these boosts (like the 10% crit damage bonus from quarrymaster) into milestones based on leval, that's great. But they could just as easily unlock the auras for everyone. Those boosts are limited by cooldowns, so we wont have them active at all times. That's a type of balance. But at the same time, they aren't gone. No one says you have to use every aura every day. Working on mining for a while? urn on quarrymaster for your two hours for a little boost and kill some rocks

peak plaza

We could solve those with making auras last infinite, and have no cost switching. But then we have the question of "why are we even keeping this slot and not just redistributing this into normal levelling"

new UI needs the old UI's functions like the transparency, and the ability to customise the color to how the old one was. this new UI causes so much eye fatigue you wont have to worry about the "you have been playing too long try taking a break" message 90% of people will either be afk or loging out with migraines and eye strain.

I'm not color blind, but I do have sensitive vision and have everything I possibly can on dark mode. The color we had before this update was perfect, it balanced the brights in the game, and even the darker areas like Canifis. This brown color, no matter what I do with the transparency, is going to make it really hard to play like I used to. I'm okay right now with just afk skills, but when it comes to quests and bossing, I'm not going to be able to handle it without it hurting, and I don't intend to. So, my dilemma is, wait until there's word of a possible color toggle or something, or just don't do bossing again and don't progress with other areas of the game. With that said, I don't think I'll want to continue playing much, or at least like I used to.

# stiff hare what if penance powder got buffed to 7.5% in the same update that removed the au...

I think the suspicion most people have and the reason a lot of people are bringing it up in the first place is that we think that's very unlikely to happen..

There are a lot of things they 'could do' to partially or fully replace auras so their identical functionality is replicated. But when they say definitively things are going to be removed without also definitively saying they have X plan to mitigate it (other than hypothetically considering reworking things to an unknown degree), it doesn't instill confidence.

The whole point of removing auras due to dailyscape was that they were seemingly overpowered when inaccessible due to timegates - and the fact that they were gated and not easily continuously usable hour after hour to begin with was the entire rationale for their existence.

With removing TH, and focusing on selling BXP directly, the fact that they removed premier aura with no replacement, removing portables with no kind of replacement, nothing points to them wanting to go down the direction of re-implementing the functionality of this stuff to make skilling/bossing easier, if anything they will continue to be removed without replacement (or only partial replacement).

stiff hare

Thats a fine criticism. Giving feedback in the form of "dont remove auras" is much less helpful than saying "I want a clear and actionble plan for how they would be replaced, or assurances that they will be replaced in a manner thats accessible"

A great idea would had been let the players pick the color of the lay out, your player base is like your customer and the customer is like always right. A lot of people have issues with auras because auras make the game funner when theyre active, and the issues are just that leads to worse gameplay when theyre not available (on cooldown, cant afford one), and feeling obligated to continue to engage with content while they are active in order to not waste the duration.

If they were removed with no replacement, I think a lot of the supporters of aura removal would complain since it puts us back in the state of "no aura gaming" that is the worse gameplay permanently. The support for aura removal is, for many people, contingent on that power being added to the game in other reward spaces, such as leveling benefits or other passives unlockable through gameplay. I don't think very many people just want to straight up nerf every activity in the game.

For what it's worth, we all know that the 'powers that be' have a certain fetish for all things OSRS. The goal seems to be make RS3 (RuneScape actually) a reflection of OSRS. It's really not about player opinion or input - the parameters established for the 'vote' to remove TH (a removal I wholeheartedly agree with) proved that. The powers that be have a direction THEY want to go with, and we have the option to adjust to that direction or find something else to play. It is their game in the end.

For the large part on the ui, is the theme changed, classic is the locked version of the new default layout, modern is the unlocked classic version, some changes to how the buff bars and panels anchor, minimap changes including shape and sizes, and converting a lot of ui elements to share a similar kit overall pending some conditional tweaks

#

I mean the bank presets kind

solar belfry
#

Bank presets arent player nameable, but share the same data bloat.

Think 300m player profiles allocated, say... 12 bytes to have a 12-character name each slot, i think 15 tabs, and then and additional set for 15 presets.

That's 108mb of storage in JUST preset and tab text. Even though that's just 360bytes per profile additional, it adds up especially in backups, bandwidth moving profiles around, and more.

Each time you'd load into the game, it transfers your profile and just that extra 360bytes adds up. Our profiles are already a few megabytes each.

#

So sometimes less is more, for what's effectively going to have the same effect. As adding new entries to a list would be more cost effective to have in your caches, to load an id, than text inputs. Not even counting censor systems to handle it. Or the fact our characters can have 3 profiles on them (main, beta, leagues)
