I wouldn’t say I have a trick, I’m just a massive perfectionist

When spriting, I start with a very basic sketch to figure out the design & pose. Then I work on the outlines, making sure there’s no awkward tangents & keeping lines smooth.

Next is colors:
Typically I use 3-4 shades per major color. While official sprites tend not to use many shades, having more shades can allow for more complex shading/lighting.
For example, my Dragalge/Delphox ended up with 6 entire shades of purple because there’s basically four different levels of shading: right side foreground, right side background, left side foreground, and right side background.

As for AA specifically, the important thing is that you shouldn’t use it without a reason—smoothing shading, adding texture, blending colors, implying depth, clarifying shapes/lines, etc.
Putting AA anywhere you can will likely just make it look blurry.

AA also follows the shading. The closer to the light source, the less AA you need.
Not all colors/shades need AA either, it only really helps if your colors contrast too much.

When picking colors for AA, I tend to just eyeball it, testing out shades until I find one that works. However, this website (https://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/color-blend/#:::hex) is really helpful for picking colors quickly, especially if you have two very different colors!

@rich hemlock how did you figure out the rendering on the thatch portions of your Exeggcutor/Chandelure?

Dunno if this will be the best explanation, but I knew I wanted a semi-uniform texture going on, so I originally started it out with horizontal lines going across it. After that I connected or broke up some of the lines to introduce some natural chaos/imperfections. Whenever I shade something a bit more complex in general, I usually figure it out through trial and error and seeing what works and what "looks right." So for this part I experimented with where to add the imperfections and what looked best. Then I added some highlights on the edges (I kind of used it as both natural light and reflected light from the flames). The highlight area in the center portion in particular i did along the horizontal lines from before, but I also filled in between the lines with the next lightest color.

I also used some colors from the palette that weren't necessarily intended to be used as shading for that color, but I did anyway since it was similar enough to not look too weird (the yellow and orange that came from the exeggutor heads for extra highlights, and the outline color since it didn't seem too dark) to add more color depth without actually adding any new colors

(this is also how it was only 12 colors )

So there isn’t a specific document for the Royale, but I’ve been considering changing things up (not adding a doc)

The way the ranking system works is we vote based on our preferences of the sprites, while also considering the prompt

Usually 1 person (sometimes multiple judges) and I rank each sprite 1-5 and then I divide by 2 to get the actual score

And then the ranks are as follows:
S Tier: Winning sprite (always first) 5 (not winning sprite)-4.5
A Tier: 4-3.5
B Tier: 3-2.5
C Tier: 2-1.5
D Tier: 1

If you want some feedback from me feel free to ask I wouldn’t mind giving a small bit of feedback (also side note please tell me which sprite is yours when you ask I can’t remember them all )

Yep! I tend to have a very rough design sketch, and then let what i can actually make look good in pixel art lead. In sketch its easy to overcomplicate a design for yourself, making it frustrating to translate over to pixels ((at least for myself))
I tend to keep my patterns fairly simple too. Dots, waves or stripes, nothing more usually

I've made a spreadsheet of every (assigned) Dog mon for the contest and whether there already exists a fusion between them.
None of this is relevant to the ruleset, since afaik you do not have to make a fusion that had no variants previously or only use the explicit contest mons. But I wanted to and this is obviously the easiest way to do so.
Also keep in mind that I based this on the fusiondex website, so some of these fusions may be in #sprite-gallery by now.

I’ve been trying to use conditional formatting to make the background colors for sprites differ depending on whether it’s a main, temp, or alt sprite and I think I’ve almost got it figured out!!

Discord makes really weird choices about what should/should not be shown. #spriting-guidelines is one of the most commonly hidden.

the linked part makes it sound like you are talking about mobile, if on pc I do the swap thing while being in a drive I got a link to it swaps the account but throws me out from the specific drive to "my drives" and when I click the link again it just opens it on my default account again, to swap it while not loosing acces to the drive I have to change what user I am in the url or after swaping pasing the url of the drive at the end

It's recommend an announcement using the event pings in #recurring-events . It seems a lot of people don't see it by default, but they should get the ping, and then they can pin it or whatever
