I've got a little bit of time before work so I can comment on this a lil' bit.

Contest Meta is....not an easy thing to really fix with Community Voting, things like Kaiju and SFX meta have been around since even before I was a EM, hell it was still a thing in the days where these were held on Reddit. I mean, the modern day fix is Staff judging since we as well don't like sprites being too big and needless SFX, so we tend to give less points for just catering to contest meta.

And yes I know that in this case this contest is really really unfair with that, so much so that I'm wondering if I shoulda even done it??? Like the main goal behind the mini-bonus contest here is to show off the work y'all did on your requests and try and give closure to the event so we can move onto the next one

But because of it being naturally unfair, is it even worth to do? Is there a different way to do what I want?? Probably.

idk if it can work but maybe a dif way to make it work is to have dif voting category instead of just "which sprite is best", it gives other sprite a chance like cuteness which tend to have smaller sprites than the coolness/powerful category. only downside of this would be even more voting and even more work so it's def not the best fix, especially if you have 279 joining Secret Spriter

I don't think it can be fixed, the one contest we had where SFX was banned, several of the finalists were sprites that arguably had SFX (as in they had more SFX than sprites that were disallowed) but managed to sneak past the contest managers

some points about what i read from all ppl:
-if this contest was staff judged, it would have ppl complaining about that for your sprite that was made to be a gift receiving a 0 or a 1
-probably a daena page could be really fun, and its a good suggestion, at least to we have how always check the sprites and the event, thats is a really cool idea, but its not engaged like a community vote contest, so probably less ppl could see it
-i can agree that the contest feels a bit unecessary for the secret spriter, but as i said before, is just a bônus event, why not just see it happening, its not like the winner gonna receive a lot of money, we can just let it happen and vote without argue about that, a different cattegoried idea is a really good idea tho, cutteness, coolest. gen 5 styled, that could work really well ngl, but that means 3 different polls not that easy to manage being only one person (gamr)

Such a vote (one with multiple categories) would be better run like the mob vote. Where you have a Google page to go to, and you are the sprite and all the categories you can vote on.

Then some simple spreadsheet magic afterwards gives you a ranking on each of the categories and you could even do an overall score

Execution is different than Enforcement, making each one of those categories with a team is easy.
Hell if anything all you really need to do is make the vote sheet once, copy it a couple times and change the names of categories. Not a issue

Telling you how you should vote is simply put: not voting

say a person votes for themselves each time in each category.

A: how would we know? it’s all anonymous

B: how would we really stop them???? like they could just say “I truly think mine is the best in X” and truth or lie, we can’t do nothing

I could maybe see like "awards" of sort. Maybe staff pick out 5 fusions per category and throw them onto a Google form (or use the poll thing ofc) and have a couple categories like mentioned (Cutie Award, Badass Award, etc).

Enforcing people not voting for themselves? Not possible, but one vote in dozens won't matter.

Ensuring people vote for that category and not whatever they find cool? Also not possible, but no real reason to do so imo, especially if staff are picking what qualifies.

(I'd imagine these being at the end of the polls after the top 3 podium is determined, just as sorta bonuses. Could even have customized awards on themes. Like the Rock n Roll one could've had a "Most Metal Award" or something lol)

i had this idea since a while and im gonna share here just to see what u guys think about it, i was thinking about a way to mix staff judge and community votes, lemme try to explain that in english lol
i was thinking about the votes coming from staff but the community votes working like a bonus:
start with a point that we suppose that 12 staffs gonna vote in a contest, the maximum of points that a sprite can get is 60, right? right.
so what if the top 10 from community won a bonus on their overall results, starting with the top 1 winning a half of the maximum of points that a sprite can get in staff judge, since rn the maximum for staffs is 60, for community is 30.
so the top 10 from community win the bonus like:
1- +30
2- +20
3- +15
4- +10
5- +8
6- +7
7- +6
8- +5
9- +5
10- +5

in that way(or something like that) to win a contest u have to be good for community and for staff at the same time, breaking kaiju or sfx meta the most possible.
