it's because it's too in line with the body and the ear IMO, so it kinda just looks like it's a straight line at a glance. Especially with the black coloring.

if the ear piece was a bit further out and over the mouth it mightve read better

I think it's less of "hard to tell" and more of "it could be other form if you squint a little", which seem like a comment that is used multiple times on dif sprite that could be a fusion of smth else

I was really sensitive to critics but that stops me from growing
I also got a therapy and now can handle comments a bit better
so it's time to leave comfort zone

I'd say this is still a lot closer to Aria than Pirouette because the hair isn't shaped like a tower and the 'skirt' is still on one side of the body instead of being spread out

I personally take all kinds of criticisms as long as it actually helps me understand the fundamental problem

that's objectively a problem and not a stupid nitpick

personally though I think all that the contests go down to is if the entry appeals to the judges

but what appeals to judges is always fucking random

IF spriters have very wide range of skills
when someone just starts and barely can move few pixels, others okay with doing sprites from scratch with unique poses, designs, ideas and cool sfx
And you never know who is the artist you wanna feedback to
