October 1st : arrivals
Its only the first day of this wretched month and we already got a call. It was from some cliff village outland near the ocean. Got called in because of some sick guy apparently caused by mercury poisoning, but the doctors claimed whenever they pinpointed the location of the mercury it moved. Of course anything even remotely abnormal they come to waste our time, and sadly in this time of the year we can’t just ignore them.
Unlucky for them the man ended up dying before we got there. Immediately noticed the mercury tended to move to the lower elevations in the body, damn idiots, so placed it in some pool of water, riddled the body with holes and watched as every drop , dropped out of the body. Found this little bugger.

Anyone know how plausible this is to turn into a Sprite? It’s a cacnea/onix rough idea sketch but I didn’t want to take it further if it wasn’t plausible
Cacnea does have glowing Sfx moves so I felt that would be permissible, but I haven’t sprited hardly at all and was wondering if this would be achievable in the space available to a 96x96 canvas that’s under 20 colors?

Turns out there were more of those mercury creatures.
Also, apparently, some info that hadn’t been shared before, before the man had died, he had gone insane and rabid. The creatures seem to cause some sort of rapid mutation within the body. All unnecessary organs , fats, skin ect. had been either removed or transmuted. For what purpose, I am yet to discover. The brain has been replaced by the creature, controlling the body. The muscles have been hardened causing them to be a bit heavy, but stronger than what we can deal with right now. Got the village to evacuate, for safety and as far as they know its just a normal epidemic.

October 3: Impossibly worse
Not good, not good at all. The transformed “humans” , transformed even further, luckily only one before we could stop them. The bone structure, particularly the spine was enlarged. The bone walls are surprisingly thin, we assume its to have more volume for the bone marrow. And guess what, unlike every other single living creature you lucky bastards would know, the Bone marrow doesn’t produce blood. Nope, it creates MORE of the mercury creatures. Had to stop it quickly, luckily we had a plan. Lured it to the edge of the cliff, where, because of its insanely high mass, the cliff broke under its mass. Fell and sunk into the ocean. Sadly lost a few of ours. They knew the job description, what could happen. We know… I know what can happen.

October 4th : Darkness follows light
Got a call from some town about some mysterious murder. A family of four, Father , Mother, son and daughter. The parents were some zoologists and had no apparent enemies. Arrived at the home, we requested that the bodies not to be removed from the premises. No other pets but a bunch of empty cages filled with feathers. There was a bird, cute face too. It seemed thoughtless, as though it isn’t able to control itself. The bodies were, mangled. Limbs torn apart and bite marks all throughout, as though a wild animal came through here. We went with 10 people, 6 inside, 4 outside, bit overkill. We noticed that we were suddenly just just 3.
The bird was losing it, and I swear I saw eyes in the shadows. 3, then 2, then just me. At a last attempt , jaw widening, eyes leering , I lit my lantern. The shadows seemed to reel in pain. The bird tried running to the darkness, thats when I put two and two together.
The bird must be some sort of object keeping the shadow in our plain. Ducked to the bird and stomped it. Can’t believe we didn’t notice how dark the house was for a family home.

- The Martyr: A perpetually-starved, weak slugcat living in a period of heavy drought where only one Iterator of their Local Group is left, hoarding all the water in a desperate attempt to survive. They only have one food pip, but can only eat basic foods that only fill one fourth of it at a time.
- The Dragon Slayer: A large, beefy slugcat with an Artificer-like vendetta against lizards for taking their family away from them. They can carry up to four spears [dual-wielding + two on back] and mostly subsist on lizard meat.
- The Mother: A Gourmand-like slugcat that takes care of orphaned slugpups, their current journey focused on escorting a pair of pups (The Child and The Sibling) to the safe haven they call home. If either slugpup dies, the cycle ends as if you died instead.
- The Scholar: A heavily modified [like Spearmaster] slugcat purposed by the last Iterator in their Local Group to collect pearls from the cans of the other Iterators, both to collect their dying thoughts and memories and to finally accept that they're the only one left. They have a unique system where they have three extra food pips that represent the space in their body for storing pearls, as they can swallow more than one pearl at a time.
