so I chose Squirtle as my starter
and my understanding is that in Cerulean city you can ||trade a pokemon to get another one of the starters. I believe since I started with a Squirtle the trade option would be a Charmander||. well the lady is there to do that, but she offers to ||trade me a Squirtle for a grass type, even though the overworld sprite of her pokemon is a Bulbasaur. I samade a backup save before trading but it did indeed give me a Squirtle||

just wanted to ask if that is meant to happen or if this is a funky bug moment
and if it is a bug if there is a fix or I just can't get ||charmander|| this playthrough

Old data in your Game folder is crashing or causing issues with your game. To fix:

Lightweight Installer:

1. Open your Game Folder
2. Delete your Data folder (This will not delete your saved data)
3. Double click INSTALL_OR_UPDATE.bat

App Installer:

1. Open the App -> Installation Menu -> Update Game (this will delete the Data folder and bring it back for you)

Afterwards, reopen the game.

drag the entire game folder into your downloads folder, thats by default not affected by onedrive, so it wont mess with the game files

It gets all janky really, like I use the arrow key to move left for example, and my MC runs one step to the left, but if I keep using the arrow to go further left, the running pauses mid run. Or sometimes, it lets me go a few steps fine, but then pauses in place.

• HotSpot/Mobile Data doesn't count.

How to Reset your Sprite Pull:

1. Open your menu in game and select Options.
2. Go to the option named Download Spritesand turn it OFF.
3. Leave the menu by pressing Enter on Confirm at the bottom or pressing B (if you don't, this won't work).
4. Open options again and turn Download Sprites back ON.
5. Save your game and close it.
6. Reopen the game and your sprites should appear.

To change a Pokemon's sprite to an alternative one, go to their Pokedex entry (this can be done from their summary screen) and go to the "Sprites" tab. Here you can scroll through the different available sprites.

I did. I ended up uninstalling it and honestly never reinstalled it. It’s been like 3 weeks maybe? Someone else said that sometimes the extraction process on the steam deck sometimes acts a little funny and glitches the game. I’ve been having an itch to play it again I just didn’t know if someone else had run into this problem

Yeah extraction can be iffy, sometimes it doesn't do the full extract and/or move when there are hundreds of thousands of files.

Yeah unfortunately seems like your steam deck has the non steam game bug. This one is hard to troubleshoot because only some Steam Decks get this bug.

Try this:

1. Open steam in desktop mode
2. Right click the game, and remove from Steam Library (this will delete your save. Backup your save if you have one)
3. On steam, click the button + Add Game on the bottom left and click Add Non Steam Game
4. Click Browse and navigate to Game.exe and click OK
5. Go back to gaming mode and set compatibility again to Proton GE and try opening the game

Hey @icy sigil! This game is developed ONLY for Windows. Joiplay is a workaround to get Android to work, but iOS will not work.

Check our Official Android guide HERE. If you didn't follow this guide, DELETE and UNINSTALL everything.

All Android bugs/workarounds are in the guide. If your issue isn't listed, there's no fix. No dedicated mobile version of IF will be developed in the future.

Sorry, don't know if someone already posted the fix since I don't use Discord much. Just updated my game to v. 6.2.3. I opened it up and loaded my save and it was working fine, just running slowly. So, I downloaded all the custom battlers and added them to the game but now my trainer is just a floating hat. I removed all of the custom battlers but am still getting the same error.

My sister is having some trouble when trying to play IF on her laptop. Certain maps have entirely black tiles. The game still runs properly and all the terrain acts as though it is there, but the floor and walls are pitch black. Objects that can be interacted with still appear. This effect is inconsistent--sometimes, entering and exiting a pokemon battle causes them to load properly. It also appears to only affect some areas--this has happened in Viridian Forest, Brock's Gym, Route 3, the basement of the Museum in Pewter City, and Route 26, and repeatedly in those areas but not in any other areas she's been to yet. Deleting and reinstalling the game didn't help. Is there anything we can do about this?

Check if you have the setting download sprites on. if that isn't on then it won't download any of the missing sprites. If you already have that enabled then it might be something else like wrong location of the sprites or device incompatabilities

App Installer:

1. Open the App -> Installation Menu -> Update Game (this will delete the Data folder and bring it back for you)

Afterwards, reopen the game.

To change a Pokemon's sprite to an alternative one, go to their Pokedex entry (this can be done from their summary screen) and go to the "Sprites" tab. Here you can scroll through the different available sprites.

The 6.2 update added trainer sprite customization, but it is a teaser to the full implementation. Please be patient until the next larger update where you can customize your trainer further.

At the moment, you can only customize existing characters from your bedroom or 2F Hotel Wardrobes.

yeah those videos are likely from before the 6.2 update when the trainer sprite files were done differently

I update from 6.0 to 6.2.3 and this pops up on startup, game closes on hitting ok.

NEVERMIND the updater told me the index.lock file was all fucked so i deleted it and updated again and it worked

I'm not sure if this is the right channel to ask this. But i got a new sprite from fusiondex. Placed the file in the correct custom battler folder and selected the sprite in game. But its not updating the sprite. Plz help

So you see the new sprite in game and did you press enter when you selected the sprite? Just pressing left and right doesn’t change it

Did you try switching back to the original and reselecting the new one?

Oh you on preloaded also. And you sure you saved and restarted after selecting the sprite?

Could be a preloaded only error cause the game caches when you open it. So might have issues switching sprites. Preloaded is the lesser version of the game just to make it playable on computers that are slower

@blazing python I tried the switching thing again. And also tried closing and reopening then doing the switching but still doesn't get updated. Also didn't understand the 2nd part of what u said. The game version im playing is 5.1.1.1

Lightweight Installer Update:

1. Open your game folder
2. Double click 'INSTALL_OR_UPDATE.bat'

App Installer Update:

1. Open the App
2. Click Installation Menu -> Update Game -> Click Update

Both options will update the game files for you. If it didn't, rerun the update and wait for it to finish. Take and share a screenshot of the window to #tech-support

Quick question, I ran the updater on my steam deck, it says all files are up to date but now the game instantly closes on launch without giving me an error message. Is there anything I can try?

Old data in your Game folder is crashing or causing issues with your game. To fix:

Lightweight Installer:

1. Open your Game Folder
2. Delete your Data folder (This will not delete your saved data)
3. Double click INSTALL_OR_UPDATE.bat

App Installer:

1. Open the App -> Installation Menu -> Update Game (this will delete the Data folder and bring it back for you)

Afterwards, reopen the game.
