I initially did a full reinstall but I was receiving download errors for the custom sprites. So I switched to simply updating and those errors went away, but received this new one after that.

Yeah. I was able to download all the custom sprites after updating. When I did a fresh install earlier, I got errors whenever I tried to download the custom sprites.
So I know I can reinstall the game with a fresh version, I just will experience those same errors when I go to download the custom sprites again.

Nope, if the game opens, the sprites are good to install. You can either do it manually, or the app installer can do it for you
But just FYI, sprites already get installed as you encounter pokemon, so installing sprites is optional

I think you are messing up your images lol anytime you run it, it deletes your sprites then installs them

Hey @golden oasis! Are you having trouble starting the game? If you are launching v5, and your screen is stuck on black at startup, don't worry, it's normal. Leave the game running for a few minutes and it will work eventually.
Do not click on the window during this, otherwise you'll get the error below and the game will close.

Hey @sacred crater! Are you having trouble starting the game? If you are launching v5, and your screen is stuck on black at startup, don't worry, it's normal. Leave the game running for a few minutes and it will work eventually.
Do not click on the window during this, otherwise you'll get the error below and the game will close.

seems like something failed .. either onedrive striked back or the download failed at some point ... thats just what i guess ... tell him to delete the game folder entirely and reinstall the game using the launcher
the save file will be unaffected, its not in the game folder
also tell him to make sure nowhere in the path is "onedrive" .. that messes up a lot
other than that i would have no idea what that thing causes ...

you posted the preloaded sprite error ... even on mobile ... either you get the preloaded sprites (which is not recommended) or you start the normal "game.exe"
the guide also tells you to use "game.exe" and not preloaded
