This game is not accessible to everyone, mostly BECAUSE of the insane costs.
Sometimes proxying is all you've got, and it's not even a bad option, they look clean, and you can customize your cards to fit the deck theme too.
Precons are absolutely better for new players, but if you're above the baseline of skill or just want to try something new, you've got to break out the wallet and either invest an insane amount of money into fucking cardstock. Either that, or buy proxies which are FAR more affordable. Another benefit to proxies is that if you end up finding a better replacement, you don't have to turn around and find a buyer, or deal with any of the selling hassle. You can just find a different card, order it, and spend like an additional dollar or two.
Been playing this game for over half of my life, and I've come to understand the value of proxies over the last couple years. It's the flexibility it affords you. You're not stuck sinking hundreds into pieces of paper, and you're allowed a lot more creativity in the execution of the deck.

from what i understand, anyone who changes their gender identity away from the one assigned at birth is trans, and with gender fluid people, they may sometimes go back to their assigned gender, but because it changes for them at all, they are still trans. I know of a youtuber who is masculine nonbinary and prefers he/they pronouns, but still uses an avatar that has female characteristics and goes by a feminine name (as far as I've figured out). they also present this fairy/fae avatar as the one who stole their feminine name, though it seems to me that they're still figuring out pieces of their identity, or at least not telling the audience every nitty gritty detail

Well, I had a massive falling out with one spriters of yours long ago. And decided never to rectify anything with them due to things they were going through at the time, as I felt like I would just hurt them.
The idea would be to get this into DMs, though, just in case any drama happens. I had no idea they were even here until relatively recently.
