I had an issue with the game not correctly downloading a sprite recently myself (Combusken/Hitmonchan) and seemed stuck with the generated sprite, but it got its custom sprite after I quit the game and started it up again. Just in case that helps.

If you're playing on Classic, you can get Spiritomb by going to Lavender tower, getting the Odd Keystone from the kid, and then defeating 108 ghost pokemon. There's a well on Route 36 that can be interacted with daily to add 36 spirits to it. If you're playing on Remix, you can open the Sealed Tomb by interacting with the clock at 3:15 AM - Spiritomb can be found inside as a random encounter.
