i am also an artist and go to school for it. (graduated with associates, currently on my 4th year in art school) Bases are not all that unusual in actual professional art. Using your resources you have permission to do so with is important especially when deadlines or ambitious goals are in mind. PIF is extremely ambitious, so using bases is highly encouraged. Expecting people to make original art for every single fusion is absolutely asinine.

Is there a database or dex that specifies the specific dex number each pokémon and fusion has, by the way?

Let's say, i wanted a Jirachi. Instead of going around the entirety of Kanto and Johto trying in vein to find it in grass/caves/ocean etc, it sure would be useful to know it's dex number so i could directly add it.

I just wanna see and experiment with all kinds of custom fusions, ya know? Beautiful ones, Badass ones, Edgy ones, Nightmare-fuel ones you name it, i want to experience them.

That's what this game is all about to me. Not so much the trek through pokémon regions that i can do in any other mainline/romhack game, but the fusions. That's the shining beacon that attracts people to play this game, i believe.
