How about obedience and recoil scale with affection? Start off blind-rage, but then, is it trusts it's trainer more, more obedient, more crits, less recoil.

rage's downsides depend on affection. At first, it's max recoil and crit inability, then as you grow, crit chance increases and recoil decreases, up till recoil is tiny and overall crit chance is above the average. Affection also increases the stat buffs, and lowers the stat debuffs.

Like, the recoil in battle is only half of the total recoil. If swapped out, or after battle, it takes an extra accumulated recoil damage from the overexertion catching up.

Solution: Water. End the rage early (cooling their head.) Also a massive affection boost.
