Do the following steps in PIF1:
Step 1: Move an evolution stone to the top of your bag. It doesn’t matter what kind, but you can only have one of that particular evolution stone on hand.
Step 2: Surf on any body of water and toss the evolution stone while surfing.
Step 3: Encounter a wild Pokémon in that same body of water and KO it with an electric type move.
Step 4: Get a berry from every berry bush in the game.
Step 5: Get your Pokémon that KOed the Pokémon in step 3 poisoned.
Step 6: Before taking a step, nickname the poisoned Pokémon the exact number of steps it will take you to get to the Saffron city gym. Then, you must walk there without letting your Pokémon faint from poison damage. You can’t heal the poison, and you can only heal your HP with berries you got from step 4. If you were off by even a single step, you have to start over.
Step 7: Get your Pokémon from step 6 KOed by any fire type move. If it is KOed by any other method, you’ll have to start over.
Step 8: Go into mt. Moon and have your fainted Pokémon from step 7 use dig to get you out of the cave.

PIF alone is already nearing that limit as is

we're using like 849 of 999 maps

150ish maps is not enough for all of hoenn

even if we cull some maps that aren't used, it wouldn't really make a dent

You would reach level 100 about midway through Hoenn at which point it would pretty much be going through the motions cause all your mons are as strong as they can be

And to have any sort of challenge you would probably start seeing opponents using Smogon-esque sets

frog likes to have event stuff in game to get the legendary/mythical mons

only reason stuff might get trimmed is if there is no real reason to go there [which is why johto lacks olivine and cianwood, the only reason for those cities are the gyms]

frog does have plans to eventually add those into the game, but that is very much a thing for the

I can understand the first point, but that is what makes Meltan so unique in my eyes. Meltan is straight up not a "Legend/Mythical" in terms of power nor implicit rarity, but Melmetal is through being rare for large groupings of Meltan to evolve like that.

Gen 4: Bronzor-Bronzong (unique look amongst steel types, plus versatility in abilities with Levitate and Heatproof)
Gen 5: Mienfoo-Mienshao (unique approach to the usual Fighting type aesthetic, plus Regenerator on an offensive mon)
Gen 6: same as you for same reason
Gen 7: Dewpider-Araquanid (cool looks and one of the last OP abilities waiting to be exploited)

Exploiting powerful moves and abilities that otherwise belong to Pokémon that can't use them as well as they should is almost as big a draw as the sprite art the community makes IMO

For me it's:
Gen 4: Staraptor. Giving things intimidate is always cool. It's also actually a meaningful sidegrade to salamence, since Staraptor gets much better moves, especially if you fuse it to a fighting type and get STAB close combat. Also, it's just the objectively best route 1 bird.
Gen 5: Vanilluxe, for all the meme designs. I originally wanted to say Serperior, but I actually don't like there being a special contrary mon, since all the best contrary moves are special and it'd just powercreep Lurantis. Eelektross is the most mechanically interesting option IMO, but we already know we'll get it.
Gen 6: Malamar. Unlike Serperior, which just powercreeps Lurantis out of existence, Malamar actually feels like a meaningful sidegrade. Getting to seperate the pretty horrible Dark/Psychic into better combinations also seems really hype. My initial reaction was "Florges because we need more head statsticks that arent Togekiss/Blissey/Eeveelution" but tbh it's almost an exact copy of Sylveon mechanically, so it isn't actually all that interesting.
Gen 7: Kartana. It's a very funny Body statstick and i wanna see how people break it, that's all
