It's not often brought up but being a monotype can be a boon, too. Aerodactyl may be fast and rock typed, but you're only getting the rock typing if you use it as the head - so it can't really make a fast rock type mon unless you're fusing it with something else which is also at least decently fast and/or rock typed

But Lycanrock being monotyped means you can get that rock typing as the body or the head, so you aren't limited if the stat distribution you want doesn't coincide with the typing you want

Well, not as much, because the other mon might be monotyped. But I think the point still comes across

So there's a lot of nostalgia and character work being done too, but the design as a base still works really well for all of that

I had a theory with sun and moon (might have just been ultra versions, I'm not sure) that since there was a guy talking about building a paradise for fossil pokemon that there would be ancient variants and since that's where we first got regional variants I was banking on there being prehistoric versions of the gen 2 starters. Andrewsarchus, Spinosaurus, and Meganium is already a Brachiosaurus so you'd maybe have to lean on the prehistoric plants

Not saying that's inherently a bad thing and I think the surprise factor is good, but I just wish he'd showed up more (especially in ORAS if they were gonna do that with him)

A lot of RPGS, pokemon included, like to lean in "chosen one" routes where your connections are destined and long fortold and part of big grand machinations and...Wally is important, but before you helped him out, he was a sick kid. There's...something there, narratively or thematically that has weight, but I can't quite articulate it like I want to

For the newer rivals they throw their backstory right down your throat but for Wally you actually have to talk to optional NPCs to know more than just "I helped him catch his Pokemon, battled him once and then suddenly final boss music"

Thinking about it, SV did a really good job on that front. The emotional beats betwen you and the rival characters land pretty solidly and while you could kind of interpret some of them as being interested in your character romantically, it's really only there if you're looking for it.

I guess what I'm saying is I dont want my gender expression in game to impact the game I'm playing beyond the cosmetic stuff.
