isnt w28 made from S&S?
No clue how optimized S&S is
it doesnt look very crispy tbh
but the w28 looks like in the middle of both RHS and USP detail level
w28 is pretty decent performance wise but some of the assets are pretty meh
the envgs aren’t finished so they are kinda lame
just regular night vision and you can switch to like default arma thermals
Normal RHS nvgs would work fine
From W28 we just need the uniforms. RHS looks ass and is outdated with ACHs and the multicam looks off

Real, its what you get when your playerbase is almost entirely replaced by new people from nam. All the old "vets" leave and dont come back cause of nam and the new playerbase takes time to get used to modern

issue is they dont get used to name, they just play it like its name with gadgets then complain when they wipe over and over saying the game is difficult etc
Well I don't like +1.5 km engagement range. Nam is so much better with 5 - 800m.
That's just cause no one wants to think more tactically. We could easily surround points and be more strategic with our approaches thanks to all the cover and concealment that a jungle environment provides. If you're losing friendlies because you play with default cyclops FOV you can't really blame Nam for that. Modern is quite literally sit somewhere 4 Km from the enemy and wait till 1-8 has their way with the place to push in. Getting to occasionally shoot at those guys after getting approval from the 60+ people screeching over 31. Not to mention this is all happening over basically barren environments that are basically one texture, a cupule of rocks, and maybe a tree or ankle high wall if you are lucky. This is all opinion of course, and just what I experience personally, making me like the Nam experience way more because I have a chance to actually fight and listen to my surroundings, and run into tense moments of being pinned down in need of help and my only way of communicating that being a smoke instead of just texting the bros on my iPad.

I just really don't want to go back to the cancer of every dude having a radio. I explicitly despise games for that. Take Squad for example. The main reason I do not enjoy it is because there is just radio in your ear non stop when all you wanna do is listen to gunshots, explosions, footsteps, casings hitting the ground. Instead you get Dave, who is cramming two Big Macs and his mic down his throat over the radio.
If I had to pick anything that would stop me from playing modern it'd be that.

One of my favorite experiences this campaign for instance was being scared shitless in the dark literally crawling through the jungle with the rest of goblin while a tank was just sending shots over us, splashing right next to us with a deafening boom. Everyone is freaking out, shouting, begging for medics; I think Cole was my SL for that maybe he has a clip. It was so unbelievably immersive, and was so much fun to both experience and talk about. That would literally never happen in modern, especially since every living being has NV so they will see you from 3 KM away and nail you with the first shot.
I like knowing where everyone is at all times because public players tend to wander off and get lost/do exactly they were told to not do. I dont want to come home to play lib in order to be 10 dudes' babysitter.
Radio is your pet peeve. I like being able to communicate with the entire squad for the same reason

Ok but how about when there is no Odin on, which is mostly when I am playing, and what makes you think they are gonna care at all about what anyone else has to say. The same people who ignore orders are the ones that'll tell their life stories over radio. As you said the server is public, so when there is something to abuse you bet your ass it is happening. If they know that it is pissing you off they are likely to just do it more because they know it. It also doesn't help that longer term players always think they know better than everyone else and gotta share it any chance they get. If people just listened and did what the higher ranks say instead of going, "Well that is stupid and I don't wanna" then both nam and modern would be a lot better off.
I won't be a hypocrite either, I am more than capable of admitting I have disregarded orders I have felt were stupid in the past, and I can't necessarily promise I won't do it again, but most of the time as a Cpl or Pvt I am more than willing to take a back seat since it really does make things better for everyone.
Idk ive never had this issue before so ig im lucky. Theres been times when people were being irresponsible with the radio. I asked them to chill out and they always did. If its that bad and they really dont give af and not listening to their sl with no odin on I'd record it/clip it and ping and odin in discord or make a report

You can easily use infantry tactics, whether that's platoon, squad, etc, its just a lot of people dont know how to and so dont, modern is the exact same, except its much more forgiving with the long range engagements making most fights a lot less dangerous than in nam and nam is just generally more difficult because of the lack of crutches like radios, GPS, etc, once people know how to do it all they will use it but until then you're stuck with it on both
if anything modern is more difficult. nam is just throwing bodies at an obj until u manage to slowly kill all the ai on the point. The fact that open areas and long range combat is super common on moder is just one of the reasons why it is WAY MORE difficult than nam ever has been
In modern we at least used to have higher standards, not just throw bodies at the problem since you have the tech and you can actually apply tactics even with new people and a chain of command existed
Modern half the time is just sitting in one place 500m out trading shots which isnt really difficult, I guess it also just depends a lot on what you're looking at but the only reason why people would play better on modern is because of the crutches that make it easier, you dont have to know basic land nav because everyones got their head in their phones constantly so always see where they are
The bluforce tracker means you dont have to keep track of people as much because if they somehow manage to get lost they can easily find you
Tbe radios make communication 10x easier because you can talk to your squad 5km away
none of these i would consider crutches in moderns

Simply skill issue, learn ways around the lack of tech and use that, take like 20 minutes to quickly look how they did shit then and see how you can apply that

Theres always been leadership issues, modern or nam, it's not just a nam thing, this kinda happens when there's no quality control for leadership, just have to try to teach as many people how to do stuff as you can
the "company level" teamwork in nam is litteratly just herding cats there is no strategy the way it is played by the majority of the server
youre literally making my point for me, nam pushed away skillful vets who used to teach the newbies. The vets never returned after nam so the nam newbies started teaching the newbies BAD tactics, like wave tactics etc
In modern you can have accountability of people when they do dumb shit and not listen to HQ, in nam you cant, people just do whatever
so slowly the quality degraded over time
Nam is just objectively harder on every level.
- infantry: no radio or GPS so you can easily get lost or confused. Landnav is difficult because there are few landmarks in a jungle so without the "I'm at this grid" system, most people would walk 3km in the wrong direction
- leadership: most radios are held by non-leadership roles so communication becomes a game of telephone
- aviation: no night vision so night ops are either significantly harder or cancelled due to risk to the airframe, for CAS, it's extremely difficult to identify your target and even moreso to identify friendlies
The actual gamemode as a whole might be easier because no body armor, but actually playing it is harder
we talking nam infantry gameplay, or lib in general
idk tbh this is all subjective to me. not having gadgets doesnt make it more difficult for me per say. maybe for the random joe sure. also not being able to operate during night as much isnt really that big news. modern maps have had TERRIBLE night cycles with is being pitch black with nods on
The gameplay itself, not lib. Lib might be easier/harder depending on a lot of server side settings (the type of AI, the amount of AI, if armor spawns, the bad pathing of AI, no OPFOR air, etc)
In nam, its def harder to organise a platoon / company but eh infantry is easier, no unkillable tanks, no red air, enemies have no armor, land nav is easy since we get the get coords and generally you just go from HLZ / DZ to a bearing and you find the shooting etc...
^yeah so the individual player gameplay might be harder, cause if u dont know how to e.g land nav then youre going to suffer. but settings wise its WAY easier than moders (meant for sams msg)
But that's not a limitation of nam. That's an an intentional decision we made to make it balanced due to the fact that the era is harder

We can set counter battery to be similar to modern, give OPFOR their air assets that exist, increase the amount of armor that spawns, etc to make it on a similar level to modern. But then no one would play. Because you don't have the tools, coordination, etc that modern has to deal with them

Agree, mechanically it is more difficult, but I think with it being difficult, we miss the difficulty of tactical planning and going in depth there. Because people are just too focused on not loosing sight of eachother, so going anything deeper / more complicated than that doesn’t happen.

Couple of issues I see with it are:
- very limited times when enemy FW/RW is up
- how to deal with it if you only have 30 people on and most are already in the field with nobody slotted for CAP or harpy
- setting up and working the AA defence on platoon and FOB(s), including all assets there - big risk of losing assets to strafes
I know there was one time on Tigris (?) when KOGFOR was in a hind, however I had an avenger that picked them up way early and datalink had reaper on them before they could do any real harm.

NASAMS, if I understand correctly, would probably be the most likely to not.
No active radar for a HARM to pick up on and a really fast missile once it's in LOS.

It's such an old mod that the datalink doesn't exist in it, because it has no ActiveRadarSensor in the component config. It didn't even have to, it came out before the jets DLC.

So I looked into it. Tried it from the MiG-29SM, and sure enough you can pick it up from a mile out. Same with the felon.
Out of curiosity, I did try it in the vanilla stealth fighter against an independent NASAMS, and it didn't show up for shit. Must be how the radars where configured when Jets came out.
Another thing of note, at no time was there a spike from the NASAMS, even when forced active in Zeus. Mileage may vary, however I think this means it can't be HARM'd. I sure couldn't get a lock on it from the Mig or the Felon.
I could see use in using the NASAMS (and all of it's problems) as a battery, and the Avenger as a sensor to cue it. Now, I know that there's no BVR engaging with it, but at least a "look here and wait" is better than nothing.

A long time ago I made a proposal for some theater-level air defense capability, but it wasn't adopted.
I never got an answer, but based on what little I did hear it probably has to do with BVR engagement from something not Reaper or from something fixed in friendly controlled areas.

Another issue with it is for clarity. We try and have OPs Base be a place that new players can immediately have the info they need with the signs
Obviously that's near impossible for every new player to know what's going on after spawning in at OPs Base. There's just so much info to try and understand for people who have never played the game.
But for players with at least some Arma experience, those signs/billboards are pretty helpful. Speaking from experience from my first time here

like in my head a perfect banshee loop 9 loop would be CCP is established a 500-1km for the platoon. Where 9 can fix broken legs, fatal loss of blood, pack etc. So theres a mascal event, Banshee goes in tq's stabilizes and then casevacs back to the ccp where 9 kisses the booboos to make everything all better
With this being a casual and public server casevacs wouldn't benefit the community. They would result in most people aborting and respawning everytime they went down.

This map has been a slogfest, the BG’s are crazy, but there are big parts of skill issue in there as well.
Don’t let BG’s roam freely and prioritize objectives that we need (factories) instead of going on random excursions to the east, or re-attacking the island to our south east.
If it don’t do any harm, let them be and focus on the objectives that benefit us.

Battlegroups should be prioritized over almost everything, all the time. The more BGs taken out, the more enemy awareness drops; the more enemy awareness drops, the less chances there are of monster PLA formations showing up to crush balls
Also, the quicker BGs are eliminated, less chance there is of them continuing to push points, or more BGs showing up and turning them into a large scale counterattack
which is one of the multiple reasons a nasam is so important it deals with them within a minute or two

Since the "game" right now is specifically designed to be like this (start small and then it doesnt matter down the road cause we have the majority of the factories)
On Fallujah it felt like we didnt care about all those frustrations anymore and just played to enjoy the game, even if we lost and died cause losing assets still mattered (if its lost then its gone for the entire restart) but they'd come back so we just focused more on tactics
I feel like the appropriate system would be to have "unlocks" based on objectives captured. Like capping "x" amount of OBJs will award us with x battalion vehicles. Or back when we used to need to cap a point to unlock it in the build-list but instead it just becomes battalion
Example would be we cap 10 points, we unlock 6 humvees and 2 more soft tops, a little bird
we cap 30-50 we get CAS but only 1 of each type (1 FW 1 Rotary) so resources still have meaning if we dont like the battalion asset
If its based on a specific objective capture like "Capping radiotower 1087689 gives us an A-10" but its relatively far away from Ops Base then company command would start doing "tactics" to get to that point specifically instead of just picking a random point that looks good every restart

@naive kayak I’ve purposely stayed out of these discussions because it’s gotta a tad toxic and negative recently but I figured I should comment on this.
The PLT does NOT need a CAP only aircraft. The PLT needs a multirole that has SEAD.
All the multirole aircraft have air to air munitions so it can conduct CAP, but we NEED an aircraft that can smack SAM’s. The days of flying a darter drone at tree level trying to coordinate with savages’s FCR tablet is dead and gone - there’s no reason to do it when we have so many talented pilots that know how to use HARMS. We just need the aircraft that can do it.
It’s an expensive buy, but at the end of the day that needs to be the first FW purchase - and we shouldn’t be buying anything else FW until we have that established.
To have air superiority we must first be assured that we can kill their SAMS, then their air. Then and only then should we be buying a primary CAS asset.
And last but not least: Knowingly putting an aircraft into danger is against SOP’s. IMO flying a FW jet that cannot deal with SAM’s and red air IS PUTTING THE AIRFRAME into danger. I urge those with reaper perms to consider that risk on every sortie in the case we someone purchase non-permissive airframes.
its why ive been wanting the Alaska. And whoevers flying and whoevers 8 needs to have a plan before going up on how to deal with the SAM sites
luckily the best aircraft we have does all 3 mission types great (the alaska/arctic splinter whatever you wanna call it)
