same thing is happening to me. Started after the last update. I change the default output to my Pebble speakers. On reboot it goes to my Arctis 3 headset which is not plugged in. I've tried excluding the devices under the Device Manager option in the EQ settings and that doesn't do anything. This is gettng frustrating. Seems to be happening to a lot of other people. I checked the Steel Series sub-Reddit and it's all over there.

Hey, I'm a bit of a tech noob. But for some reason foobar2000 is stuck in master and doesn't work in the GG program. When I try to drag it over to under the media area, it's just telling me to adjust the audio settings directly within foobar2000. Thing is, it worked previously, and I'm not sure why it doesn't now. But does anyone who uses foobar2000 have a rough idea on what to adjust? Thanks

Ye thats on nvidia, they only record main system sounds which sonar has just the gamin channel on

You can turn on sonars streamer mode for that tho

It will give you streamer mix channel that bundles whichever other ones you want

Then in windows search bar go to sound mixer

Find nvidia container and select the streamer mix channel to it

All I can do is try, I've done one of those survey things and sent them an email separate of making the post I linked but I've found posts on other platforms that go back a year or two addressing the same issue. I'm unsure of where the defensiveness for the software comes from. I was pretty explicit and as polite as I could be about my issue in the feature-requests thread I made on this. Is there an issue I'm unaware of about wanting the software to perform better and work in more ways that would allow more functionality for people? I won't retread everything I said over there but it's a pretty simple request that, if the software is programmed in a reasonable way, is a fairly simple fix.

What I requested (a toggle to the software automatically switching windows default devices) can be as simple as adding a control in the settings - a checkbox or button or radio button or whatever - that controls a boolean variable, then using that variable in an if statement that is a part of or around the code which changes the windows default devices. I can't say for sure as I don't have the source code, but it's possible that's all it would take.

Well you've come in at a funny time (this is what I was just talking about and something I've made a thread on in the feature-requests channel), I've had it happen before that Sonar changes my Windows Default to the Sonar - Gaming virtual device and my recording software (OBS) is set to record from the default output device so in the recording the only things that come through are the sounds that were set to run through the Gaming category in Sonar. It could be that your recording software is set up in a similar way. If it's only recording from the Sonar - Gaming virtual device it will only record things put into the Gaming category in Sonar.

I just bought the Arctis Nova 7s, and my main game is Apex Legends. The sound quality is horrible and almost unusable. Does anyone have an explanation as to why some things and way to loud, but at other times I get no audio ques or they are overpowered. I have other cheep headsets that sound better. It would be great to add a "Push-to-Talk" option to the microphone settings in future versions, instead of just having a toggle mute button. Since some games or software don't have a "Push-to-Talk" feature like chat applications do. OBS complained, too and linked me where to download the broken files. after installing them, everything worked again.

I suspect DaVinci Resolved's Fairlight Audio Thingy caused the conflict and it wouldn't get resolved until I uninstalled it again AND re-installed the redistributables OBS complained were outdated for whichever reason.

installed DaVinci Resolved now without the Fairlight Audio Thingy and it appears everything still works properly.

I streamed with no issues yesterday, and now my stream output channel is getting 0 audio. everything is set correctly to the best of my knowledge. the mic is the only thing thats changed since yesterday but i changed that in software, did not fix anything. all the "passthroughs" work still, just not the combined stream chat. it does appear to be related to a recent update. I've tried uninstalling. reinstalling. creating a brand new account to do a fresh set up and the sliders are not working
Edit: I'm able to get steelseries to recognize changes to the slider if i disconnect and reconnect the audio input from Steelseries to the Speaker, then back to steelseries.

steps:

1. Login to steelseries sonar and open systems > Sound
2. open a browser and play a decently long video on youtube.
3. go back to the steel series set up and lower the volume of the channel connected to your browser
4. go to system sound and change the output setting to any channel not related to steelseries.
5. Immediately switch it back to the correct steelseries channel. regardless of which channel you adjusted, the system will recognize the change.

I assumed that with this application that I could stream my game and by using the headphone icon I could lower my game volume while listening to a music playlist on YouTube. The recent update broke streamer mode in sonar. You can brute force sonar to change the sound levels by changing the sound source to anything other then sonar. Then switching it back to the proper sonar channel

So I've recently started using Sonar for gaming, and I got the idea to try to play music through my mic by routing my Spotify to the Microphone in Sonar, and it works! people can hear the music, but it takes my audio as well since it's routed to my mic and not my audio device. hey guys, since a few days sonar and discord rly dont like each other anymore. So i thought id share this in case it helps anyone else. I had been having issues with input outputs automatic switching even after the firmware update. Today I did some testing and it seems that Logitech's G HUB was the issue. i turned it off and everything seems so far to be working great. so if anyone is in the same position (mine is for my g502 mouse) it might well be that.

Does anybody have a solution to using Sonar Stream Mode and Voicemod at the same time? I can't seem to wrap my head around the routing so that I can have the audio control of my stream mix while also sending voicemod sounds through the same channel. If I route it Mic > Voicemod > Sonar, the noise cancellation doesn't like the soundboard very much, and if I route it Mic > Sonar > Voicemod I don't get the same control so I hear one thing and my stream hears another.

Im using the Sound Blaster G6 w/ Sonar. So in WIndowns i should select the G6 as my audio out correct and not Sonar? Also where in Sonar can i double check that its connected to the G6. under the various VADs there should be the name of the current device, you can click on it to open a dropdown

if you're using a separate sound card, i think you'd need to set sonar to output to the card, and set windows to output to sonar

just setting windows to output to the sound card would mean the audio would bypass sonar

What are the best windows sound settings for Sonar? I have multiple sound sources as most people do. Periodically the steelseries software will not have a sound source selected. Not a big deal just switch back over to my steelseries headset. However that got me thinking is there sound settings within windows that I need to setup to make the software work better with it.

I think it's always been this way. Sonar doesn't show it's own outputs in the dropdown, since the dropdown is for selecting what physical output you want the audio to go to.

I have the Nova wireless, and I also have tactile transducers (with active crossovers) running off the onboard Realtek card (quadraphonic). In sim racing, Simhub drives the tactile.

This is one of the worst apps I have ever used. Tell me why it will randomly stop all audio, disconnect all my devices, then take over all my audio setting and won't even let me connect to my speakers. It wont even let me go into my setting and switch devices, it'll just say nothing is there. Hello, I currently have a problem that is starting to seriously annoy me. For the past few weeks, when I launch Call of Duty, sometimes my sound completely glitches. Similarly, I quit Call of Duty because there is an update, I restart it, the sound glitches several times, the game doesn't launch, until the sound crashes and then the game launches (go figure why). this is seriously tilting me, some sort of serious issue either sonar keeps removing all possible sound inputs and outputs from my pc at seemingly random times during my pc’s uptime. the audio stops working, my computer begins to lag heavily, and then i go to close sonar through task manager because it no longer works, which is when the audio sources get lost. does anyone have a good alternative to sonar that can both broadcast pc audio through my microphone as well as separate outputs into different eq settings?

Just picked up my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless today, as my Arctis Pro Wireless couldn't take it anymore (mic-arm-protection tore and had exposed wires).

I was looking SO much forward to be able to not having to switch between devices myself anymore (basically only using headset when I'm playing with friends, which is maybe 40% of my game-time).

My "play by myself" sound is a 5.1 surround-speaker setup.

But....
If I wanna use Spatial Audio on my headset, it limits my speakers to Stereo 😔

Not to mention the equaliser setting for my headset it significantly different than what my speakers need... but that's less of a problem, as I can tweak a bit on the speakers also.

Is this really a limitation of this "don't ever think about it again" sort-of-branded functionality?

And if so...
If I could set up a key-shortcut to switch sound profiles, that would also be a big help in working around this seemingly obvious oversight.
But those only exist for keyboard profiles 😭

When you share the screen you'll get this window before turning the stream on. Make sure "Also share system audio" is checked.

I had to make some assumptions here, but it's worth a shot: Assuming you did the above, if you're using the SteelSeries GG software and Sonar, go to your system sound settings and double check what the default output device is. Sonar changes it to Sonar - Gaming, which that checkbox in Discord will only output whatever your default output device is set to. You can either change the default device there or go to Sonar and move the application you're attempting to stream into the Gaming category on the Sonar screen.

The new one i can set them up in Stealseries Engine but is there an onboard method to control the chatmix?

i believe you just need to press in on the volume wheel on the headset to access chatmix on the transmitter

ANC works by having mics on the outside of the headset to record the noise, and then play a special sound to cancel that noise out. but you can also set the mode to transparency where instead of cancelling out the noise, it'll play the recorded audio in the headset, so you can hear what's going on around you.

it's kinda like the sidetone on the microphone, but instead of being used to hear your own voice, it can be used to hear what's going on around you, like if someone wants to talk to you

Unfortunately they are not saved on the cloud. You can work with the Share preset option, it will generate a link to your preset. Save those links in your browser or in a document locally. After reinstall you can import your custom presets by clicking on the links. Hope that helps.

Sonar Gaming is meant to be set as your Windows output and Sonar Mic as your Windows input. It will try to change this if it isn't. That's all intended behaviour

Hello everyone! I just purchased thew Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, and the microphone quality seems to be poor. My roommate owns the same headset, and his microphone is significantly better. Listening to the recordings of my own audio and some of my friends tell me that my audio is very "grainy" and "low quality". Does anyone know any obvious quick-fixes to this? I've played around with Sonar, including all of the presets, made sure I wasn't on Bluetooth, and just swapped out the batteries to one with full charge. Nothing seems to work. Hey has anybody had issues with Steelseries GG where it causes your windows audio to completely stop working?. In other words, like in the services? I've had issues ever since I installed GG and it's basically stopping the Windows Audio service from running, which cuts out all my audio. Hi, I hate this lmao. I have Steel Keyboard and Mouse. I downloaded Sonar to keep updates up-to-date.

What sucks is that it also downloads drivers for audio device. I don't have Steel audio devices, I have Corsair I LIKE my Corsair.
The reason it sucks, is that every time I boot up my PC, the audio defaults to the Steel Audio Drivers and I'm left with manually selecting my Corsair device EVERY TIME and EVERY WHERE (GAMES/TEAMS/ZOOM everything)

I've tried the following:

• uninstalled the audio drivers Sonar installs
• selected my Corsair headphone on the Sonar Device
• Selected Default Audio Device in Windows.

Nothing works, IT CONTINUES to just default to Sonar's virtual device.

Any advice? Fixing to just uninstall, but I like Sonar letting me know my Aerox 5 low battery

A few days ago Sonar streamer mode stopped working properly, the streamer channel gives no audio output what so ever and I can also not "Listen to what the stream hears", the mousej ust shows a big stop sign. I'm sending multiple channels to streamer mode with no changes in settings than before and I just uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled Steelseries GG.

Hey Folks, not sure if this is the right place but I have a feature request on the Device Manager feature in the GG app. As is clearly mentioned in the https://support.steelseries.com/hc/en-us/articles/35939167296397-Managing-Backup-Playback-Device-in-Sonar article, when graphics driver updates and USB port switches happen for audio devices, the device manager assigns it a new ID and effectively duplicates the entries shown in the device manager.

My feature request would be to add a device-and-driver-name-based filter and grouping to the Device Manager. Such that I'd be able to go in and add a filter for any device named "Headphones" with the driver name of "Arctis Nova Pro Wireless" and always put it at the top of the priority list. And another filter for anything named "SONY TV" with the driver name of "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" and have that be second in the list.

If there are multiple active devices with the same driver name and device name (which I can see being the only bug-introducing scenario) - then the software could invalidate the grouping and fallback to the existing ID based behavior.

This is my only complaint and issue that I deal with daily. I can't really count the number of times I've had to sort and resort through the priority list, and I'd really love this feature to be added.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

3. If you are having issues with step 2 or step 3 above, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

If you see the "Sonar did not allow this app to change outputs" error, then step 1 above did not work, and you may need to do step 2 or step 3 to route your audio.

What is sonar and what is it used for

It is used for splitting audio from multiple software to different channels. And changing the eq of them individually. For example I could have my browser go to the media channel and I could have my games go to the games channel and have my discord/chats go to the chats channel and then through sonar I can manipulate the eq and sound volume of all of them separately.

Many SteelSeries headsets come with Sidetone, which allow you to hear yourself through the headset’s mic for better clarity when talking.

For most headsets, the volume of the Sidetone can be lowered in SteelSeries Engine, which is part of GG. GG can be downloaded here: https://steelseries.com/gg

If you have a “Playstation” version of a headset (such as the Arctis Nova 7P) then your headset may have a physical wheel on the headset for turning the sidetone down.

For analog headsets that use the 3.5mm headphone port, sidetone may be generated by your on-board audio devices. Please refer to your computer manufacturer’s support for more help

chatmix stopped working for me today on my arctis nova 7x. I can see the slider moving when i use the dial on my headset but it has no effect on the volumes of Game and Chat channels

okay did a big dance of restarting, re-installing GG, resetting headset, and restarting again and the second restart "fixed" it. It now doesn't update the slider visually in Sonar but it is correctly adjusting the volume mix

I have Arctis Nova Pro Wireless connected with USB. In the Sonar application I click on Engine, then Gear. I get a message that says "Not seeing your gear?" I click on the Headset link, but there is no advice for the Nova Pro Wireless. I have Sidetone set to OFF on the base station, but I still get my voice echo in the headphone. How can I get rid of that echo?

Hello, so tried out Sonar's sound booster and I didn't like it since whenever I shared my whole screen, the viewers can hear my mic in the stream so they hear me twice so I uninstalled it.

Now, my mic is suddenly so bad and you can hear static noises even with discord's standard noise suppression.
I tried reinstalling the drivers but it didn't work, my mic keeps having static while I'm talking. Anyone got a solution?
