In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Make sure the Twitch VOD track option is selected in OBS audio settings, then click the gear icon in the OBS audio mixer, make sure whatever line your Spotify goes to only has Track 1 box checked. Track 1 is your Live track on Twitch, and Track 2 is your VOD Track.

Hey, for some reason I have 0 audio on my media mixer no matter what I do. I can route it however I want to no avail, and I have audio on all my other channels. Additionally (though less urgent), my aux channel--for no discernable reason--is immune to spatial audio settings other than distance (which, predictably, works more like a volume slider on its own than anything) and any audio routed through it sounds exactly as though I've actually routed it through a real life, extremely decrepit aux cord. Can't figure out what's causing that either. I have no other audio software on my system for the audio to pass through. Any help is appreciated!

The thing is that my headphones aren't disconnecting from the pc at any point and it's only started happening recently. I've had fallback enabled for a while and it's always kept my headset active in the past unless I specifically disconnect it

My windows is also set to only turn the screen off and not actually go to sleep

I'm using SteelSeries GG to change my audio output settings. The tabs for Chat, Media, Aux, and Microphone work perfectly. However, when I switch to the Gaming tab, I see the volume levels moving, but I don't get any sound, even though the output device is the same as in the other tabs. What can I do to fix this issue?

All other tabs (Chat, Media, Aux, Microphone) are functioning correctly.
The volume levels in the Gaming tab indicate that audio is being played.
The output device selected in the Gaming tab is the same as in the other working tabs.
No sound is heard when using the Gaming tab.
I've already tried checking the settings and making sure the correct output device is selected. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately I do not, to make myself a little clearer about the issue I'm having:

I usually find myself streaming/screensharing to friends and though the perceived volume on my earbuds or headphones (non steelseries devices) is well adjusted for myself, the perceived volume on the end of whoever is viewing whatever I happen to stream/screenshare ends up being much lower.

My question was if there is a way to raise the perceived volume for only one application while mantaining a similar level on my own hearing devices.

Aw snap, I just joined the ask how to get Sonar to switch to my headphone output automatically when I plug my headphones into the PC, but this might actually be the solution to that. It was gettng a bit annoying opening up Sonar after plugging headphones in, and individually setting the new audio output for Game, Chat, Media etc. to the new device. I may have a rather unique set up, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this or how to contact SteelSeries Support since I'm struggling to find an option to submit a ticket on the website.

The problem I'm facing has to do with my Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, Speakers (Katana V2X), KVM monitors (Sony M9's), Sonar, and the "Backup device switch".

In Settings > Sonar > "Backup device switch" I have:

• Automatic Backup Device Switch: On
• Automatic Backup Device Switch at Boot/Reboot: On
• Consider My Wireless Device As Unavailable If It Is Plugged In But Not Powered On: On
• Link all output channels: On
• All > Playback Devices > Headset (Arctis Nova Pro Wireless) > Speakers (SB Katana V2X)

I typically have my "Speakers" set as my output unless I'm in a chat with people - in which case I want everything going into my "Headset".

The problem seems to arise when I use the KVM to switch to a different source and back. Sonar seems to think when the KVM reconnects to my gaming PC that my "Headset" is the "active" device despite it typically being powered off. I'm assuming this has to do with the fact that the PC is being re-informed that the DAC exists when the source returns to it, but the GG > Sonar module doesn't actually check if the DAC is actively transmitting to the "Headset".

Presumably, I cannot invert the backup order e.g. "Speakers (SB Katana V2X) > Headset (Arctis Nova Pro Wireless)" and expect my audio source to automatically switch to the "Headset" when turned on.

If anyone has ideas on the matter please let me know.
Otherwise, if someone could help point me to how to submit a ticket properly through the SteelSeries website I'd appreciate it.

Also, my OS is Win 11 Pro if that matters.

Sometimes, I can get sonar to be active AND the headset's equalizer to be active at the same time, and I feel like I can make my audio sound best this way

To submit the ticket, you need to disable ad blocker, if your browser has one built in, you need to disable that too, thats how i managed to finally open a ticket, a chat bubble will pop up bottom right when you do.

the way it works is that the sonar outputs should show up in windows just fine (based on your previous screenshots, they were), and then you can tell the apps to send audio to the various virtual outputs like game/chat/media/aux.

from there, sonar takes all the audio in, does it's EQ and other processing stuff, then sends the audio out to whatever physical device you have selected. that's why the virtual devices don't show up in the dropdown, since that's the dropdown for physical devices only

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Hi, just curious as I have the same issue at times; Do you have other users who have used the PC before the infinite loading?

Not sure if this is connected though as it does get fixed for me after I kill all related tasks through task manager and then exit the Steelseries GG itself from the taskbar thingie.

I have identified it as Sonar loading for the latest user on the PC when turning the PC on, but then failing to do so for other accounts, as it can only run one instance of Sonar at a time (the others such as Moments and Engine have duplicate instances in task manager and thus work) 🤔

For the love of God I’m in desperate need of some advice to fix this……… My buddies voice volume in discord is ridiculously lower than Warzone game audio. I’ve maxed out the volume as much as I can and the only way to SOMEWHAT balance it is to lower game volume to 70 and even push my dongle to 30-40% chat volume rather than in the middle between game and chat. Even then it’s not the best and it drowns out any game audio or footsteps.

I use GG 67.0.0 and the pc panel pro hard and software https://www.getpcpanel.com/ which is a hardware mixer with faders.
Now, when I use sonar in standard mode all works fine, I can control the #archive-sonar-for-streamers software faders with the hardware faders, as soon I switch to streamer mode the function of controlling the software faders goes away. It would be really nice to this up and running. See video attached for clarification.

hello everyone, new here, i joined the server because i needed help with setting default output and input devices. with sonar, especially when you have multiple subdivisions for output (media,gaming ,chat etc) and other hardware devices added (camera, ps5 controller, monitor), things get complicated and sometimes I'm able to hear sounds from my headset, other times i cant. even when i change the default, it somehow ends up changing itself automatically. this creates confusion for me when using discord, playing games, or simply watching videos on google chrome. also when im in a call with a friend, and i play a video on browser while my mic is on, theres noise bleed, and my friend can hear the video im watching. I need help.

any guidance, videos, reddit posts with details on how to fix these problems? can anyone help?

streamer mode has the separate personal/stream mix, which is nice for those who want to have finer control over the audio. but it does come with caveats like the aforementioned volume lock, or not being able to mute music on your VOD.

and also the caveat of needing to have GG open so you can mess with audio on the fly, which is annoying enough for me that I don't use it either and just have the individual VADs as sliders in OBS

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Everything single release in the last 3 months has made the software less reliable for me.
In release N-2, fallback to my Nova Pro Wireless station's lineout, when turning off the headset, stopped working.
In release N-1, automatic Backup Device Switch stopped being automatic and I've had to manually move Apps between channels to force the switch to happen.
And with the release pushed today ("N"), I could not get any sound out of my headset until I eventually rebooted (something which the update did not prompt me to do).

Hopefully this is the correct channel for support (as it looks like there is none), Windows Update failed to update, "rolled back" the changes, and in the process completely killed GG, I cannot open it, the update service won't start (probably not related), there's no error in the event log either.

kk, i just did a fresh install of Win 11, just have my ASUS SW, running. i opted in for the BETA in GG, now after multiple reboots my sonar isnt loading. i did the force stops of all the apps and rebooted. it satill wont load. anyone with ideas or a known fix?

the "workaround" is going into discord and changing your mic to be the mic you're using.

but thats not fixing anything. Its just bypassing steelseries gg routing your audio.

Ive been having issues with frame rate drops on my clips, I havent had this issue previously and I hadnt changed any of the core settings, I run a 4090 Ge-force RTX I wouldnt think that it would be lack of performance from my GPU.

Sooooo... I'm running into a "new" fun issue....

• My Arctis Pro volume knob can change chatmix... but won't control volume.
• Knob on my headset accurately updates the base and can do the same -- no volume control.
• Keyboard media keys still can control "Game" volume.

... I uninstalled and installed 67 from the download I had in July (relatively new headset). did the version#.json trick I found in search... still no dice.

To be clear, it is working. Both audio to headset or lineout fallback... but volume controls are broken between the base and computer.

Hey I just figured it out, in case you never did, go to windows audio setting and then "App Volume and Device Preferences" and make sure the volume is at 100% (or whatever your preference is.) For some reason it was set super low for me

you can either click and drag that little discord thing over to the chat section or go into your windows audio settings and set the output for discord to steel series sonar - chat. you can also set it through discord

I am having trouble configuring the spatial sound on my Arctis 5 headset while playing War Thunder. I can't seem to get the directional audio working correctly, so I never know where enemies are coming from. I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work. Every time there's an update, I have to reconfigure the headset with my computer, and it's really complicated.

Kill the process ID for it and run it as admin, sometimes ive even had to do it while having my audio devices disconnected. make sure its not running at all when you go to reopen it.

For anybody that uses a SS headset for their mic on discord, do you have to always have your mic at 100%?
i want to keep the bar at 85% so its not peaking(going into red) for other people. but everytime i do that, 90% of people say im too quiet and im not about to tell every single person i get on vc with on discord to turn up their output volume in voice and video and turn other people down etc just so they can hear me at a good level.
maybe its cause i have the compressor at max(1.00) but im pretty sure it still happens either way. The equalizer is all at 12+ db and ill still be too quiet for other people

Hey ya'll, anyone had any issues with chatmix recently? it was working fine yesterday morning, out of no where it decided to stop working. The wheel works and shows movement on the sonar program, but it doesn't do anything. when you updated, all your drivers probably got reinstalled to their updated versions, and sonar tends to see these as new devices to be added to the list of outputs, so it can fuck with the fallback order

Hello guys, I have recently been having a really really bad issue with Discord no longer picking up any audio at all when I stream. I think it might be because of the SteelSeries Sonar audio driver. I have a SteelSeries Arctis Wireless headset, and I also have a pair of speaker from a random brand, but SteelSeries Sonar runs them through the driver anyways and I think that may have something to do with the problem. Also is there any way to update the driver because I don't know how to do that. Thank you!

Does anyone know why I am seeing routing is not set up correctly for Discord. I am also hearing Firefox (youtube) through my mic (others can hear any youtube videos I am watching).

I've followed many tutorials, nothing will allow it to route "properly".

Spotify doesn't come through the mic, but as soon as I play Firefox (any audio) the mic lights up, and people will hear it as if I'm playing that audio.

Hey recently got a Arctis Nova 7, loving the headset so far, only thing i need help with is when i record some gameplay it just records my audio, i have sonar setup to use the headset as output and a HyperX mic as input, I've tried messing around with the audio settings on the recording end and so far i'm only getting my mic picked up and nothing else, the recording software i've used is Nvidia shadowplay and the new gameplay recording feature for steam, and yes i do have it setup to record all audio on both software

Got some trouble with the backup device settings, it works when i turn off my headset, my speakers gets on, and other way around. Problem is with the microphone, it worked for a short time, but now i manually have to do it again xD

A friend of mine has his valorant audio playing through sonar into discord without it being in the stream mix. the shound comes into his gaming route, which has stream mix disabled, and is still audible in discord. On discord he has sonar stream mix selected as imput.

SteelSeries Sonar has “Device Fallback” that will automatically switch the outputs on Sonar.

Fallback can be triggered when a device is unavailable (such as when booting your PC or unplugging a device), or it can switch outputs if it detects if a Nova headset is turned off, and automatically switch to speakers.

This fallback functionality can be adjusted or turned off by going into the settings in GG. You can find it under Settings > Sonar > Backup Device Switch.

You can also adjust the order in which devices fall back to. This can be adjusted in the same options menu. Simply scroll down to see the full list of devices.

Does anyone know why in streamer mode, the stream channel doesn't mute the source into OBS? When i click off the headphone channel it mutes the sound to my headset, but when I click off the stream channel, and watch in OBS, the source (spotify, discord, media etc.) still continues to monitor like normal (doesn't mute) in OBS

that usually indicates something is misconfigured somewhere. check the output settings under "master" in sonar to make sure the audio is going to the right outputs, and check OBS to make sure that the stream output is the only audio source you have.

@velvet walrus Ahh gotcha, that actually makes sense. Not sure I understand the configuration. In the master settings I can only select "Steel Series Virtual Audio Device" but I have the sources coming through the individual channels (Chat, Media, Aux etc.). So in OBS, the only way to get them on their own channels it to also select the corresponding chat, media, aux etc.

In other words, I'm not sure how to line the master stream output up with the individual sources, as they aren't on one channel. they are on the respective individual channels in OBS.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.
