And if the default output is GAME, then I'd have to manually deselect and reselect MEDIA for individual apps to get them playing in the MEDIA channel.
It compeltely ignores the individual settings of some apps and overrides it with the main default output.
Heck, the Discord settings keep reverting to "Default" setting ALL THE TIME

Hi, i just got a arctis nova 3 and i download the software and for some reason when i use sonar sometimes it doesnt pick up the audio for my game and it puts it in the master tab and mutes it is there a way i can have it automatically go there rather than needing to swap it over every time?

It basically looks like minecraft doesnt have support for Steel series Upmix... Cause upmix makes youtube and the speakers sound amazing. If iturn it off, thye just change to 2.1 trash speakers but make minecraft sound good. Upmix off makes minecraft sound good, but music bad. This is annoying

the only way to disable the VADs is to turn off sonar entirely

if you're using clipping software like nvidia/AMD, you can still keep sonar on, just set discord and other chat apps to output to the game device instead of separate chat devices

Hello guys. Is it possible to add another Sonar Channel? I am using Sonar as my digital mixer for everything. That means, when I hear music with my Headset, I need to equalize it a little bit, for better sound. But when I want to use my Loudspeaker instead, I turn off my Wireless Headset and automatically the output device in Sonar changed to my Loudspeaker. I recently setup my Alias mic and for the sidetone feature to work I have to be plugged into the mic instead of the Gamedac (personal preference but I need sidenote lol). Hey guys, I'm getting a problem with Sonar does not automatically switching between devices. My setup has two devices the Arctis 9 wireless and a bluetooth speaker, a month ago everything was ok (as if I disconnect my A9, it will auto jump to the speaker and vice versa), but two days ago this stop happening. On the Sonar setting page, I see that the A9 is still on active device list when it is not actually powered on?? -> this resulted in the bluetooth speaker is never set to as default playback device.

Does anyone experience the same thing? or know how to deal with this?

I am trying to use Sonar with MuseScore (since my Arctis Nova Pro is nice) but MuseScore sucks so I am trying to make a profile to prevent audio playback glitches. I tried looking through the settings but there doesn't seem to be a way to apply a profile for 44.1khz 32bit. It seems Sonar only supports 48khz 24bit?

Unless I possibly change it at the windows level, but it would be best if that wasn't necessary...would invite problems with changing audio levels back and forth between gaming, listening to music, and working on arrangements (sometimes a couple happen together )

oh thats weird...the steelseries transmitter box screen says 48khz/24bit but the sonar app says Hi-Res 24 bit / 96khz...which is it actually in? Is there some way to control playback from application to upscale audio (I get high pitch/speed warp from musescore)

To reproduce bug: install musescore 4, use any soundfont (literally any) and then write a few notes and hit play - In my example D5 then E5 sound as approx D6 or D7, not sure exactly - playback hurts to listen to

so youre going to have to jump through some hoops as you are in essence using 2 audio routing programs

i have to do the same thing with wavelink and sonar, the only difference is my game and chat audio is re routing to my headphone monitor on my mic

you might be better off trying to look into something called Equalizer APO and use the Peace GUI for it

that way you can use Beacn interface

equilzer apo allows you to use VST plugins as well as EQ

you will have to watch a few videos on how to get it setup

are you using a Beacn mic or some other brand?

Why does the Sonar software #1: Chatmix NEVER works. Period. I don't understand how Steelseries can sell a product with a feature on the outside of the box, that just doesn't work. #2: WHy does Sonar change my audio output device to something OTHER than the headphone output whenever I launch a game? I'm serious, my outputs are fine in Windows, suddenly I launch a game, and Sonar changes the playback output to my monitor. WHY????

oh yeah there was some prescribed set of steps I can follow to actually get it to work, which involves restarting, but during the shutdownw process I have to unplug the base station, allow windows to boot up with it disconnected, and then plug it back in before you sign in to windows, and then magically it will work for that ONE Windows session, until the computer is restarted, after which it doesn't work again

there might be some USB power settings in BIOS, in which case I can't help too much since every BIOS is different. but overall, unless you want to charge from your PC when it's "off" then i'd try turning off any USB hibernate/sleep settings.

but for windows, you should try turning off fast startup and USB selective suspend in the power settings. fast startup is under the "change what the power buttons do" settings, and USB selective suspend is in the advanced settings

while i'm not too sure either of these would fix all the sonar issues, i think there might be a chance it can help with the whole unplugging/replugging thing, since sometimes your PC might not actually "turn off" when fast startup is on, which can sometimes cause USB devices to freak out when the PC turns back "on"

the USB power stuff is more for the other person, i don't think it would help sonar not loading

usually sonar not loading (after you've done the basic stuff like reinstalling, etc) is due to other software on your PC interfering with sonar's stuff. that's why i asked if your PC was a prebuilt, since there's been tons of posts in here from users with dell/alienware PCs where the intelligo/wavesmaxx software that comes with dell/alienware interfering with sonar and needing to be uninstalled

Yeah the Steelseries software itself says to use the hardware wheel on whatever, but using the hardware wheel doesn't do anything in the software. The base station sees it adjusting, but the software never reflects the adjustment

I am sure there is a discussion concerning this, but I am having major issues with this software in that it loops while loading for an extended period of time and I also see from time to time by headset claiming it is disconnected so I have to unplug the USB. The unplugging elements is a bother but not as much as the looping of sonar can some help (running windows 10). I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result. It all works well once it go through this long looping process. My headset is the Arctis 5 with a Apex 5 keyboard. Thank you for your time.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

I managed to sort of fix it, ill say here what i did for searchability

Basically the problem is that you can set your playback device to the normal one (not the sonar virtual devices) but every time GG restarts it will change the playback devices back to the Sonar virtual ones. to stop this (from https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/qcnfy4/comment/hiwq9ak/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

1. Open file explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\SteelSeries\GG\apps\sonar\driver

2. Shift+Right click anywhere in the folder, click 'open powershell window here'

3. in the new powershell window type cmd and in the new window copy+paste each of these commands

   1. Sonar.DevInst.exe remove --cat=sonar.apo.cat
   2. Sonar.DevInst.exe remove --cat=SteelSeries.Sonar.vad.cat

4. Now go to Control Panel>Sound and set your playback devices to the physical ones (Note: you can't disable the virtual ones as sonar will crash repeatedly)

Edit: this still doesnt work, sonar forces output change on restart

i had to go into control panel and uninstall it that way and redownload the program and reinstall it now sonar works with apps and everything.... apparently updating the graphics cards also update audio drivers which screws up sonar

Hello everyone, just got my artctis nova 7, I'm so happy and excited. I just have a small issue, I listen to a low hiss, this background hissing sound is affected on the GG in the engine tab, Mic sidetone, if it's off no hissing, low (low hissing), medium (higher volume hissing that's definitely disturbing), high (just horrible hissing). can someone please explain what's going on and the solution?

I turned it off, it's a better experience to talk while it's on, but any hissing of any kind is a no no for me, unless someone knows a way to stop the hissing, unfortunately I won't be able to use this cool feature 😢

Because of an issue with a firmware update not installing, I reinstalled GG and also plugged my headset and dock into another computer. Usually I run a pretty aggressively tuned EQ, because I have Wicked Cushions, but after reinstalling GG it seems to me like the old EQ is still applied behind the scenes somehow. What I mean is, the completely flat default EQ now sounds like a lot like my old custom tuned EQ, if I'm not mistaken.

I guess it's not the biggest issue once I realised what was happening, but has this happened to anyone else? How is this possible lol??

The thing is, I am completely blind, and it would be very convenient for me to use the SteelSeries Sonar program in my PC usage experience. That's a normal issue for my dad, but not as much as me. Normally you have to close it, and then close it in task manager. Open it like normal and it should start up within 2 minutes. Most of the time it starts up in like 10sec, but there was one time that it took 2min.

Please fix the issue in Sonar that causes everything to lock up when the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) is pressed and the mixer isn't completely visible. If Sonar is open and there is a left-right scroll bar on the bottom in order to see the entire mixer and the middle mouse button is pressed, it pops up the scroll icon in windows but the entire program is unusable. Can't exit scroll mode so the only option is to "close window" from the task bar and reopen GG.

Well, I have had these headsets for a few weeks and I am already done with SteelSeries.

There's always some sort of thing that changes whenever I start my Arctis Nova 7 and need to change it back before doing anything first.
Seriously thats why I normally stay away from these trendy crap brands.

had to reinstall GG because i upgraded to windows 11 and now this happed

as i was configuring sonar i was only allowed to use artics chat only

I think I got it, go to the engine menu and you have to reinstall the the software, that worked for me

the dongle has strange problems.. mainly exacerbated by connecting it through USB hubs/switches.
regarding the chatmix feature, i had the same problem with my nova 7. i just downgraded to an older GG version and it solved the issue. everything does seem less buggier too.
but im guessing theres an issue with the dongle's chipset that they cant really address through a fw update

when talking to support a while ago regarding the dongle randomly dying before/during/after (??) a POST, I got nowhere. eventually i got told to dispatch the headset to allah for a giftcard covering the purchase for a new headset from their store lol. not blaming the support member though, obv

Why can I login to the browser steels series account but on the app I can't?
It keep saying it's either incorrect, but with those same credentials I logged on the website. If I wanna create a new acc on the app it says that the app is not responding correctly. Is there any backdoor to this so I can access sonar ?

Im using Sonar with my new Arctis Nova Pro Wireless on PC. When i set up sonar to use the headphones, i see the audio on the screen, but there is no sound. When i change the out to realtek usb 2.0, it works as a normal headphones. they worked for a few weeks and just stopped

Hey everyone. I've just downloaded Sonar and I'm in the sonar tab in the app with the different audio tabs, works a treat but I have one issue. I communicate with my friends using the Xbox app widget and it doesn't allow me to drag it into the chat tab, it automatically goes into the game tab which isnt ideal for me when I edit as I can't split the audio. Does anyone know a fix for this at all? Would help me a lot. please send me a dm if need. Thanks!

Hey all, so, IDK if anyone can help me, but I updated my headset firmware yesturday and not the "audio out" port on my Pro wireless DAC isn't working?

Sonar shows that there is sound going out, and I hear it in my headset if I turn that on, but not my speakers

but If I set the default device to the DAC itself rather than Sonar then it works?

alrighty guys, i am back with the same issue. Ever since for some reason hid ended up in my Game Audio, none of the audio from that source gets through Sonar to my ears. it gets played by Sonar, as i can tell by the volume bar going up when there should be sound, but i dont hear anything. yesterday hid was in the "master" track and i had no issues at all. but i can not move hid, its the only option i can not move to another track.

Short term fix of deactivating and reactivating the Game Audio Device work, until i restart my PC.

So the question is, how do i get rid of hid, or fix the problem?

nah I mean in sound settings, there should be a settings page to change the output device of apps.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

The sonar routing stuff is just a fancy UI for the windows routing, so you can always just go straight to Windows and check what's where

the way to "unroute" it is to set the audio output in windows to a non-sonar device

maybe try routing them to your built in speakers? again, don't see why it would mess with audio, but if HID is there before then it might help?

the line in/line out on the base station only support stereo audio, it doesn't support mic input.

the cable that comes with the headset is more for plugging directly into a device, like a phone, console, controller, etc. those devices do support the full stereo+mic

but i could try get mic in wired mode, maybe if i use splitter, but that splitter would go into PCIe sound card, with mic and earcups audio sockets

so one way wired way worked was by using other company's custom 3 pole to 4 pole 3.5mm cable with mic sticking out, connect 3 poles it to steelseries headset, then 4 pole end goes into mic+headset splitter, which is splitting into 2 x 3poles and those dual 3.5mm cables connecting to headphones & mic sockets of PCIe sound card at the back of your PC, so basically you push steelseries mic back, lol, and you hear and can speak into mic and hear 2nd mic working (Behringers, or some other company), LOL! Funny how steelseries mic not working, but other company's mic working?

ok, there's nothing wrong with mic's or cables, just the abscence of right poles, splitters and MIC In socket in the genDAC2, as i managed to use the mic/headphones splitter and made steelseries retractable MIC pick up my voice, using PCIe EVGA audio card, interesting how steelseries didn't think of including it, maybe in genDAC3 in the future? or was it a genDAC's limitation overall and forever?
