Yes there is. it goes back on my statement about routing, and even though aux is there, others are recommending to use media/music and not aux. and it's not inputs, it's outputs. i think this is also where people have issues is thinking the apps are inputs when they are actually outputs. in the windows volume mixer for the apps, take spotify for example, you route that to an OUTPUT like sonar media/music and the wave link music output

New to Sonar and SteelSeries, but noticed one thing right off the bat with sonar. There doesn't seem to be a way to capture the audio from a capture card. I play a lot of console games and capture with an elgato 4Kmk2. I don't see a way to actually add the audio from the 4Kmk2 to sonar though. The Game section automatically shows up PC games, but the apps to be routed in the master can't be moved. Am I missing something or is it just not possible?

I have a question about SteelSeries Sonar
I saw the update and the new features (streamer mode)
I set up OBS to have it work (followed the little tutorial on F.A.Q.) and I also added the others SteelSeries Sonar audio sources to let me record different tracks in OBS for editing purposes, having "SteelSeries Sonar - Stream" on Track 1 (which is the one that will go straight into the streams) and the others (Media, Gaming, Aux) in separated tracks.
So, the Virtual Device "SteelSeries Sonar - Stream", a.k.a. the streaming mix, balance the audio volume like I see it in SteelSeries app, and that's ok
But, the audio of the other Virtual Devices I use for the other tracks (Media, Gaming, Aux ecc.) looks like they don't have the same volumes as in the streaming mix, is it right?
It's not this big of a problem since I can always change the volumes while editing the tracks and stuff, but it's a bit different when we talk about Twitch VOD
Since I'm using Spotify for music (SteelSeries Sonar - Aux), I set up OBS to not send to VOD one track (track 6) linked the Spotify Music on that track
But in this new way I shouldn't let the VOD capturing the streaming mix (which has music in it) while sending all the other sources, which, if they don't have the same volumes as I see in the SteelSeries Mixer, could be a problem
So what should I do? Give up on the submixing on SteelSeries and just doing it directly on OBS (and don't using Streamer mode)?

all working but my "GAME" make no sound
i put my sound exit on it, i see the sound in the sonar, the sound exit in the good device but i get no sound in my headset
but if i put the same sound exit to the "media" i hear, so i cant find the error (i use goXLR+sonar)
for exemple, if i put my game on "GOXLR game" i got my sound, if i put it on "stealseries sonar media" i got the sound, but if i use "stealseries sonar game" i got nothing

Just wanted to say thank you for making such an amazing program and most importantly it being free.

For some time I've had to keep switching between my PC and VR mic settings, not only in windows, then discord, then Voicemod. But now I simply have it all setup through sonar, so I don't have to switch settings. When I go to VR mode I just use the streamer mode which is a handy simple switch!

This has also enhanced my mic quality massively, with the noise reduction and compressor. Now I sound super clear and people can't hear my partner in the same room when we're gaming. Also the EQ for making my mic sound like a studio microphone, even though it's already amazing as is. (Sennheiser profile).

It's also helped with Voicemod as the mic volume is more consistent, so the voice changers are more accurate and clearer. Super useful tool!

Here is a solution for everyone who, like me, could not find the answer to the question of how to “make friends” of sonar master volume with the volume of Windows:

Just set your speakers/headphones back as the default device. However, then, in all games, switch the output device to Sonar Gaming. Thus, you will not lose any functionality of the application, but will gain native control over sound.

There is no other solution. The fact is that the system controls the volume only of the device that is marked as the default device. When you set Sonar Gaming as such, you gain control over it only.

That's by design to limit user error as it's intended to be used for everything. You can pass the mic through Sonar and don't do anything to it in Sonar

I recently purchased a SteelSeries Arctis Pro(wired) headset. I setup Sonar with no issues but noticed that when I am in a game, my directional audio is muffled for every direction I am not directly facing. All of my audio drivers are up to date (I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling) and still was not able to get the directional audio working properly. I even tried disabling Sonar in settings and enabling Dolby and noticed that I am not having any issues in Dolby. Sonar sounds great when I am facing the direction I’m facing and the mic sounds great. Does anyone know a fix to the directional audio?

I have Arctis 7 headset. I've used it just fine until some recent changes in GG.
Now, all settings moved to Sonar. Ok, seems fine.

I have music playing in a AIMP application in Windows. In the player I changed it to use Media, so now in Sonar this app shows in Media column.

However, what I don't understand is if in Media clumn in Sonar I change playback from "Headphones (Arctis 7 Game)" to "Headset earphone (Arctis 7 Chat)" - the sound quality changes drastically and becomes rather bad. Why is it so? Equalizers are disabled for all types (Game, Chat, Media, Aux, Mic). Format is the same - 96 KHz, 24 bit.
Why is it called "Headset earphone"?

Some headsets with Game/Chat mix functionality will apply eq to the chat device to optimize it for voice. I don't know if that is the case for Arctis 7. What I would do is to close SteelSeries Sonar and play music to the game device and then to the chat and compare. The Game/Chat mix dial should be at the center to hear both at the same level.

Sonar is fantastic software but it's severely limited by it's inability to sense programs that don't use active audio for the selected window. In OBS you are able to pick a source and it will just work. Outside of this I honestly think sonar is near perfect, especially the ability to separate streamer output from actual PC outputs.

Hey 🙌 if you'd like to keep your EQ on your headset you have to do the setup in Engine, that way you'll keep your EQ on the headset. Sonar EQ works only if you stay connected to your PC.

There is a problem. I have NOVA 3, the sound does not play as it should. Let's say, in Chrome I open Spotify, turn on the music, and there is sound only when Chrome is in the chat in the mixer, when I drag it to any other tab, the sound disappears. And so on with any window - the sound will only appear in the "chat". If I turn off SONAR in the settings, then everything is fine.

Is it a known issue that every time there is a Windows update or PC or Discord Sonar stop working. I always have to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work again and often this do not work either. The issue being that in discord or game chat, they do not hear me or I do not hear them.

Maybe I don't know how to use the search button correctly on the top right corner. My GG program gives an echo to everyone when i join an xbox party or xbox lobby. When people talk, the bar that lights up and moves according to the volume of the person talking, moves under the mic column. It also moves when I talk, which i think is the proper way, but not when others talk. Anyone else have this problem in here. I see others do when I google it, but nobody has an answer that has worked for me.

If it's "choppy" audio, that could be what is referred to as underflows or overflows on a virtual audio cable. This is often because the software powering said VAC (GG in this case) is being bottlenecked in terms of CPU cycles due to another app taking a lot of the CPU.

If it's lack of function, that's a different issue altogether

i think one major issue with sona (and i will also note this is very much relivant with voicemeeter and any other audio software) is that microsofts audio settings can randomly change and apps like discord constantly conflict with settings. a good majority of users want things to work out of the box with no conflicts (which is understandable) and are not good at problem solving these issues on the fly. it can be frustrating

I use Xbox Game bar to talk with some of my friends when I am streaming. I set Game bar as "Chat" in all of the audio settings that Windows 10 has, but it still goes right into the "Game" channel. Hey i'm trying to connect my nintendo switch to my pc's audio using a 3.5mm aux cable and it's a bit tricky, there's a common trick plugging it into the pc's mic input and in windows doing "listen to audio" but there's static and i'd have to buy a dampener, is there any way to potentially get around this using sonar's settings/a line in? I want to be able to use my headphone's mic at the same time so i can't just switch off that (plus i wouldn't be able to hear it), and it doesn't show up as an option under aux or any other sonar channel as it's technically an input and not an output

It would be nice if Sonar would save every app which played any sound once and does not hide it away after it stop playing. F.e. Thunderbird plays a notification sound, which i don't want in my game audio channel, but i can't swap it to example the Media channel, because its to short and i can't swap it that fast. Per default all new apps (except for known games) should be listed in the Media channel and there should be two tabs in the list, for actually playing apps and apps that played anything, but not atm..

the app switching in sonar is just a fancy UI for the windows sound menu. you can always just open the menu in windows to change outputs.

In order for apps to output to the other devices in Sonar, you'll need to route the apps to the specified device. Routing can be done in one of two ways:

1. Use the routing drag and drop interface underneath the audio outputs to simply move any apps playing sounds to the required output

2. Open the Windows sound device by going to Settings > Sound > App Volume and Device Preferences. From this settings menu you can use the dropdown to route any app.

If you are having issues with routing not working or apps moving back to another device after dragging them, you may need to check the app itself for any sound output settings. Some apps like Discord, Spotify, and Apple Music may need to have their outputs changed within their app settings rather than done through Sonar.

Hey All, I've recently got Arctis 7 headset as well as the Alias mic (normal, not the pro one). Using sonar, it seems if I leave my discord / mic muted for too long ~40 minutes, the sonar mixer switches the mic input to my headset one instead of Alias.

Have got them also today) I got cracking sounds in MW3 only. Fixed it by settings Audio MIX Cinema and updating a firmware.
Make sure you are on a latest firmware. Connect headset and GameDAC via USB to PC and go to Engine in SteelSeries App. You may see there that an important update is missing.

You can't adjust the volume of the apps themselves in sonar, just the channels they're routed to. HOWEVER, you can adjust individual app volumes in Windows sound settings (I assume there's an equivalent for Mac as well but I'm not familiar with that OS).

3 days in a row now my arctis nova pro wireless does not send any sound. If I run the windows troubleshooter for it "updates" the drivers and then it work, but only for the day. The next day it is the same. Any idea what I should do?

I had this problem with Spotify, restarting Spotify fixed the problem. It’s an issue with gg but restarting the app having the problem seems to fix it usually.

There needs to be a way to unassign an app from the whole sonar. Sometimes I want to control all my sound through normal windows and not sonar. Sonar does not work well when changing sound-systems.

Using sonar, I cannot swap from speakers to headset easily

The solution would be that an app could be removed from sonar and moved to "apps to be routed"

Also Sonar should not set itself as default at windows start. If I changed it to my speakers then I did it for a reason and I dont want you changing it on every start

Please if there is a way to unassign an app from sonar or change from speakers to headset easily within sonar, let me know

How CAN I tune this headset correct for games which no "presets" on Sonar. Because here is one EQ in Engine and second one EQ in SONAR APP. So it a lot of combinations to find "golden" option. My game is Quake Champions. In this game is very important footsteps and other sounds t understanding where is opponent. How to find correct settings? I watch your YouTube channel and I saw u use Squiglink and Rew application. Maybe you can try to show how to do it for concretely game in next video. How to check what frequency of all sounds are in "my" game and tune best option or where find more information for that? Thanks

Because for more popular games I can find information. There is so much different battle royals and Shooters, new month - new game. And I understand the company can't made the settings to all this games. Just how to tune this for some not popular game like example. Maybe in future steels create options to find settings from community like in steam with steam controller.

I invested now hours in order to get rid of the problem that new usb devices attached to windows 'steal' default audio renderer. In my case each time I attach my WMR VR the default Sonar Game renderer mutes.

Only solution is to choose another renderer for game in Sonar and to switch back. That is anoying in 2023!

So I tried to change this automatically with EventGhost or the software Soundswitch. Works, except when Sonar is running.

If Sonar is running I have to switch default renderer manually to get sound back. In my case to the headsets.

My sonar is broken I think. When I am on a call with someone and I set the output to "chat" I cant hear anything. But when I set the output to "game" I can hear the person i'm on a call with just fine. It didn't do this before. Any suggestions?

This sounds similar to an issue I had a while back that took me ages to figure out - and unfortunately support was no help. Turns out, in my case, that my Arctis headset wireless unit was connected via USB 2.0 and it seems like the chat circuit for the microfphone didn't work unless it was on USB 3.0. In my particular case I had a USB 2.0 hub that it was plugged in to and from there into a USB3.0 port on my computer. Oddly enough, when I fixed that - either by going directly or through another USB 3.0 hub everything started working.

Best thing you can do is apply a noisegate, this will automatically mute your microphone until it detects a specific db level. There's a basic one included with Sonar which you can find under the "Mic" tab. You can manually adjust it, have an auto-adjust and apply an AI denoiser (I don't use the denoiser so I cannot comment on its effectiveness). If you want more advanced options, you can download Equalizer APO & some VST plugins & use that as your mic source. Hoping that Sonar gets VST support someday though so you can just do all of that in the app itself.
