sadly no there is not, but if you give feedback to the devs (and enough of us do) maybe they'll add the ability to change that -- I also really dislike that behavior, especially because it makes controlling my volume when using my speakers a PITA

How can I stop sonar from automatically changing my default output device on boot... quite annoying... I don't want the Game output to be my default device... because then my game sounds also have the WINDOWS system sounds come through... Kinda dumb... yeah I agree with this... Sonar should not assume my setup... I route all my Game audio to my headset and everything else via Media... changing my defult Sound Output every reboot causes all other sounds to go through my headset not just my game output... If this can't be solved... I will be uninstalling and going back to Sound Meeter... as Sound Meeter does what I want, not what it wants

maybe try setting GG to not boot with your PC? and then just turn GG/Sonar on when you want to use it? otherwise my other suggestion would be to embrace sonar and have it route to your speakers as well

Not having it boot would be the same as going into sound settings every reboot and changing it manually... Embrace it routing Windows notifications to my headset when I don't want it to... may as well just go back to Voice Meeter...

I route my game audio the Game, I route everything else through Media... I then set the output of Game to my headset... that way my headset only gets my Game sounds

next time your PC starts up, check to see what device is set as the output in Sonar. It may be that when your PC reboots, Sonar is using it's fallback logic to switch devices

Im having an issue where i am not able to select the game, chate, media options for my nova pro wireless in the dropdown for sonar. Does anyone have a fix? It used to work fine I'm not sure what happened. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling gg/sonar. Updated headset. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Hi everyone, first time using these type of discord servers' Thus might not be knowledgeable of the manners and etiquette. So I apologize in advance if what I say rubs people the wrong way.

Anyways, I'm having trouble with the GG software post 46.0.0 update. I've already tried most fixes on the google searches to no avail. I also update all my drivers and Windows 10 to see if it could fix it, and again it didn't work. Finally I gave GG an uninstall & reinstall, and still the problem remained.

So I came here to see if anyone has managed to resolve this issue as I've grown to enjoy and depend on GG Sonar for my gaming experience.

I had this issue before and after reinstall GG it worked again, its weird it didn't work for u.
Try these steps:
Step 1: Press the Windows key + X to open the Quick Access menu and click on Apps & Features.

Step 2: Find Steelseries GG in this list and click on Uninstall.

Step 3: Once the program has been removed, restart your PC, reinstall Steelseries GG from the official website and try launching it again.

The thing is that when you change your Windows Audio to Chat or Media, Sonar will ask you to set Sonar devices as your default audio, and when you click on it, it will change it to Game

I usually play with the Movie: Immersion setting... but I've found that in Starfield the background hum of ship engines is too loud and overbearing when exploring a ship

A good example to test is when exploring the Nova Galactic Staryard. It's one of the first ships you explore in a campaign mission. Mission: Old neighbourhood - search for clues about Moara.

Where could I suggest or see any information about sonar software working on a PS5? From what I've heard there's no plans on it but at the same time a ps5 is perfectly capable of running the software so I was kind of curious if there were any plans of doing so and who I could speak to you to suggested I guess.

I still really struggle with the fact that they didn't put internal memory into the headset so it would remember your sonar settings. Like the Maxwell's or the new turtle Beach you can set all the stuff on your phone and your headset remembers it

The challenge as I understand it is that Sonar isn't just settings but actual audio processing, so you wouldn't be able to get the Sonar functionality without having it actively running and I don't think Sony allows apps like Sonar on their platform

For me, every single time it is updated, gsdk/ gg verson it resets to NOT system default, just to NONE Steelseries attachment one, so, apparently in my case it is my "none " existing speakers in my monitor! :D.

Anyways, I had issues much earlier whit the program itself and one tip, which works for me at least, is; Go to Settings > General > Swipe to enable 'Run Steelseries GG when computer starts'

Also one thing with the sonar, after latest update. I cannot adjust anything at Sonar > Mixer...It just closing down with the msg:

"A fatal error was encountered and has been logged. Steelseries Engine will now close. If you continue to encounter this error, please file a ticket on our support page."

Hope it's getting fixed soon, or maybe I'm the only one getting it. :/

Possibly dumb question, but is there any way to stop Sonar from automatically switching the Playback device to my Sony DualSense controller whenever I plug it in? The controller has a mic/speaker so Sonar switches all audio outputs to the DualSense whenever I plug it in and I have to manually switch everything back each time. I've tried disabling the controller audio device through Windows but each time I plug the controller in it becomes available again.

They’re for PC only

You’d need something like an Arctis Nova 7P

Same thing if you were on Xbox

The P is PlayStation

X is Xbox

And if it has neither, they can’t be used for PS5 or Xbox

They’re PC headsets

Plus the ChatMix wheel is made for PC in mind and not for console use

None of the stuff you see in the Steelseries software is going to function on a console like that, it will just use the Steelseries Engine preference if I’m not mistaken. Like Performance, Immersion, Movie, etc.

hello, i've just received my arctis 7+ wireless but i can't get the headset mic to work at all, i've tried changing the input and output peripherals on discord but none of them work (i can hear people but they can't hear me or they can hear me but i can't hear them. i also tried looking in my pc sound settings and everything was fine, plus when i reactivate my mic, i can hear myself through the headset so the mic is working. i thought for a moment that the problem came from the fact that i'm on Windows 11 but finally when i looked at the product datasheet, it says that it's compatible with Windows 10 and higher. if anyone can help me, please let me know ?

What you're hearing is called Sidetone, you should be able to adjust it with a slider on the right of your headphones (opposite side of the volume slider, same side as the power button)

Hey guys, I have a pretty specific problem, I have an Arctis Nova 7
with Sonar on I'm hearing this clicking noise through my audio, it happens during the time any sound/music is being played, no matter what the output is or source (Not bluetooth tho)
The clicking is sorta like when you wiggle the audio connector, or like a vinyl has a crack and the needle passes over it.
It's really distracting especially when I am listening to music to draw and such.
I have done everything I can within sonar and the steelseries GG to make it go away but it doesn't stop until I disable sonar.
Then the clicking goes away.
I don't like doing this because this disables the ability to use chatmix, which I rely on when gaming in discord..

I'd really like to solve this because I can't use this head set if I can't have my chatmix, and I can't stand the clicking otherwise..

go to sound

then volume mixer at the bottom

reset all

then set all defaults to youre REAL DEVICE

then

go into sonar

press auto set all

then! when you want to get all youre mixer "virtual cables" to go into discord or any game and application that has a output and input config options tab

navigate to disocrd

go into voice and text

make sure the output is the chat audio from sonar

and the input audio is the sonar mic

hey, I just downloaded sonar again after half year without it but I can't get the equalizer and spatial sound to work. It works when I adjust on my mic then record and play it back but not for games or media, no change to bass etc. Tried reinstalling everything included drivers but no change, any ideas?

my best guess is that it is working but you just cant hear it, try turning the bass all the way up and play a 60hz test on youtube, then enable and disable the equalizer, you should be able to hear the difference

I use the arctis nova pro wireless and I always have sonar on, but for the longest time i've always had an issue every now and then where whenever I talk to people via discord, their voices will sometimes be a little quieter, distorted, or shift between more hearing in my left ear or right ear... it's weird af and i can put up with it sometimes, but its annoying

Ok so many im missing something but i noticed as you have different inputs for different sources like game and media, im assuming that they have to pick out output device such as speakers or headphones. Is there any other way to make it to where it outputs through both or switch it easily? Dont get me wrong thats a good thing HOWEVER since everyone sounds diffrent and since multiple people speak after one another it changes how they sound You can either turn off your EQ so they sound "Normal" OR you polay arround with the settings a bit so you get a clear output I recommend in general:

Ah thank you! I'm having some problems using the Clearcast AI with chat mix. When I have it enabled, regardless of the level it's at, it makes people in VC drop in and out and almost makes my headset oscillate their voices so it will randomly put them in my left ear then my right lol. I tried turning off my noise gate and compressor as well to see if they were causing it but they work fine when Clearcast is turned off. Didn't have this problem with my Arctis 9 but I have a Nova 7 now that's why I'm changing my settings x

I got an email with a survey today about sonar. But the questions that I'm missing and would still like to answer is:
"What (feature) are you missing when using Sonar?" and "What do you dislike about Sonar?"

To the 1st: have multiple output devices for personal and streamer mix (that I can mute/switch on /off easily or with keybind). Similar with mic, allow me to have multiple mics active at the same time, and switch them on/off easily.

2nd: Stability issues. After Sonar Updates and Windows Updates I now had to reinstall the whole setup multiple times, including unplugging all usb audio devices uninstall and reinstall Sonar. Compared to Voicemeeter Sonar is easier to setup (although it forgot all my settings when I reinstalled it), and more stable for audio, but it just can completely break. And then the audio devices/apps are making the whole system lag.

Additionally do you know if there is now a way to use the chat-mix dial on the Arctis Nova 7 Wireless without the GG Sonar application required to be running? Like how the original Arctis 7 allowed the use of the chat-mix dial without requiring any software.

The old Arctis 7 provided 2 devices in the sound manager on widows (Artics 7 Game + Artics 7 Chat) which could be used with any audio software, and chat-mixed on-board the headset with the dial. It was wonderfully convenient.
If anyone has a solution to do the same with the newer Arctis 7 headsets I'd generously appreciate a DM.

All the new Nova headsets use software chatmix via Sonar, not hardware. There's no way around this since the physical hardware that enumerates as two devices is removed.

Since Sonar is required for Chatmix (and surround sound) it'll always set the Game output as the main audio output in Windows. This way all apps are going through Sonar in some capacity and you don't end up in some strange situation where Sonar isn't the default and you open a new app and wonder why the sound is going to your speakers.

That's unfortunate that there is not an option for on-board chatmix. Having to run Sonar as a middle man application between the headset and more robust audio applications is very messy. I hope the on-board chatmix feature returns, but I expect it never will. This product change seems primarily aimed at getting the GG software running on more systems for more data telemetry.

Ya, all 100%. I think maybe ClearCast AI is dropping the volume more than it should. When I set all to "default" with no adjustments via Sonar (ClearCast off too), then the volume meter (green/orange/red) on Game, Chat, and Media are the exact same and sound the exact same to my ears when I play them out over those virual channels. When I play the sound via "Chat" and turn on ClearCast AI at around 70 and up then the volume reduces.

hello, I hope someone can help me. I was trying to shadowplay my game play and noticed that I could not hear my friend in my instant replay. I tried working around in my windows sounds setting. When I put "chat" on default device and com device, I can hear him on the replay, but sonar won't work with it (as in the preset for the game sound for dying light 2 is not working properly) and the gamesound gets so low I can barely hear the game.

I gave up trying to get Sonar to work on my Alienware, I hope they find a fix soon, it's been a year since i got the nova pro wireless and can't run it on its full potential.

It worked! I was thinking, kind of feeling it was along the same lines but didnt have the knowledge of how to actually remove the stupid drivers because they're embedded and almost always reinstall right away. This time after installing 47 I was given access to Sonar options in the settings that was greyed out and not clickable before. The options were the set up for the hyperlinks, go figure, which was why it was crashing becuase SSGG couldnt find anything that shouldve already been there. The one thing I didn't do though was install 45. I unplugged my lan and uninstalled, reboot and reinstalled (which I had already done 3 times) and when I plugged back in for setup it just worked.

I use steelseries sonar for my microphone but not headphone, I do not have a headset, I have a seperate microphone and headphones, I use sonar to enhance my microphone's capability, and there for it is set to default, meaning when I launch my PC, it uses "Steel Sonar Microphone" as the default INPUT device. However, it also uses "Steelseris Sonar Gaming" as the default OUTPUT device for my headphones, which I DO NOT NEED, so each time I open up my computer, I have to change the OUTPUT settings to the one which it should be(which is Speakers), I have tried disabling steelseries sonar and changing the default communication device in the sound control panel, but it has not fixed the issue.

For me the new Drag and Drop works very fine - is there maybe the "setup banner" on top of sonar you might have missed if anything is wrong? Else, the "old method" should still work as you can just route them trough the microsoft speaker output device per app. Or try run as admin.

I cant because I control my audio levels with a physical controller and that requires ability to control the device volume itself. It lets me switch the apps audio my my mic the old routing way but not through sonar

As far as I've understood the new feature list of the latest update, we now can use fallback/backup device switch not only with Nova series headsets. I'm using an Arctis 7+ and unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work.
I only have two devices set up in Sonar - the Arctis 7+ and a digital output (optical).
So did I misunderstood the feature or did I found a bug?

Has sonar been improved to effectively cut out keyboard noise yet? The noise cancelling simply sucks at cutting out blue switches. Had to resort to Nvidia Broadcast instead - it actually works

Is there a way to turn off spatial audio automatically when Sonar is using a fallback device? I like spatial audio when using my SteelSeries headphones but when I turn those off and fallback to my desktop speakers I would prefer spatial audio be turned off or at a minimum support different spatial audio settings. The spatial audio settings I use are great for my headphones but are a bit too much for my speakers. @pale remnant any information on how to do tihs?

Hmkay, but then the current description within the GG software is very irritating. I mean beforehand it was clearly said that it only works with Nova headsets, but now it suggest that it also works with non Nova headsets... well, at least the auto backup device switch function suggests to also work with other devices.

Do the game presets expect you to keep things such as spatial audio off for maximum effectiveness? Or should I use the preset and turn it on for fps directional audio? Seems to work ok in apex, but in Fortnite with spatial audio enabled my sounds are not centered

From memory go into sonar, click the little settings cog on the master part, and there should be a speaker + and - icon, click those and you can map adjustment there

automatic switch now works for me if i unplug the headset USB from the computer. i unplug the USB, it switches to my speakers. i plug USB back in, it switches back to headset. but if just power off the headset, nothing happens. i don't think sonar can detect that yet. but they are making progress. it does do what it says if i unplug the USB.

Interesting, I am having a similar issue, but the only channel that's working for me is Chat.

Apps also like to disappear if I move them from different channels. I think update 48 broke it a bit.

and randomly the audio +mic quality drops

so ik it shouldnt be aproblem with the headset

when i uninstall steelseriesgg it fixes the audio lmfao

Bu they should be able to detect/manage the current status of my headset as the GG software is able to show the current battery status as soon as the Arctis 7+ is turned on.
So if the software is able to read the battery status then it also should be able to set the headset as current playback device and vice versa.
Anyways, then I guess I'll have to continue to still wait impatiently and hopefully for this feature to work with my Arctis 7+ anytime in the future.

Just open the Sonar tab in GG software and then you should be able to set up the devices for each category within the red marked spots

Hello Guys, Does anyone else have the following problem?
I can't get Sonar and Virtual devices it creates to work no matter what.
The only thing that work is the "Chat" channel and microphone.
The game, while it seems like working (I mean that the bar goes up and down) it doesn't play any sound at all no matter the output device I Choose from sonar (Arctis 7+ Wireless)

@sudden warren Update, i have fully removed Steelseries GG, and reinstalled it, and it is now fully working

However make sure to backup any, settings suchs as your sonar Mic/Game , and perhaps some engine settings for your lighting/dpi of keyboard, mouse etc. Since everything got reset.

Well that's comforting... I hope they can be made aware of it though. Had this issue when GG was in early development, i helped a dev fix the login that would cache their details and prevent logging in even if it's correct info. Deleting every trace and reinstalling seems to fix that too.

slight QoL issue with sonar, idk why or how to fix it. but whenever using the equalizer in sonar it doesnt change the audio in real time, i have to drag the apps out and then drag them back in in order to hear the change i made in the equalizer. (same for all of the other audio settings in the tab)

My microphone is in stereo and I'd like to switch it to mono but I can't find any option allowing this. I have the latest Sonar update and as a microphone I have a rode NT1A with a focusrite scarlette one sound card.

yeash i think it has to do with the sample rate/bitdepth as that's the only channel at 24bit 48khz and not the 96khz the others are at

i have no honest to god idea why they went with higher than 48khz as even recording studios don't record or output higher than 48k in 99% of circumstances,

as an audio engineer it truly baffles me cause even 90% of mics, headphones and interfaces don't even run at 96k they run at 24bit/48k, so those channels runing at that wouldn't even remotely be sautrated by anything

what's more they don't even let you choose the bit depth and sample rate which is also stupid and needlessly restrictive.

and would naturally cause issues with mismatches
