ive been trying out different recommendations and settings for MWII sounds primarily footsteps without everything else being crazy loud

✅ Apex Legends preset
❌ spatial audio
❌ smart volume
❌ gain

spatial audio seems to drown out the footsteps close to you and adds more distant noises on this setting so keep that off preferably for this preset in MWII

i also tried the warzone 1 and 2 presets for MWII multiplayer and warzone 1 preset was alright but seemed to add a lot more unnecessary bass to everything making footsteps harder to distinguish, warzone 2 dont use

i can still tell direction wise where sounds are coming from, i tried playing a game of search with it on and off, and with it turned on it just added so much more bass to everything, it might just be my preference of course, if it feels better for you then by all means 🙂

yeah idk why but the current warzone 2 presets are kinda meh. also I didn't even put any gains in those presets but its just too much loud to the point that it's shouting in my ear and I had to really lower my volume to have a tolerable sound volume

It seems to me for Best footsteps and directional sounds, is to not even use the steel series app, and use Dolby atmos in windows instead, and go to sound settings, then properties, and enable loudness equalization. Allows you to crank your headset up fully, and directional sounds is awesome. Just doesn’t sound as 3D of what the spatial sound with steel series offers. But that’s why I believe you can’t get true directional sound in the first place. Just my 2 cents.

Best configuration I've been able to do for those who just want one EQ for everything, have been using it since Sonar was in Beta. Not too piercing high's, even mids, good mix of sub bass tones. Sliders on bottom work great for those who want to tweak their sound without messing with the frequencies too much.

I've tried almost all genres of music, from heavy bass, to old school rock, to orchestra instrumental. Games I've used it on: Destiny 2, No Man's Sky, Subnautica 1 & 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Elite Dangerous, Star Wars Battlefront II, Cyberpunk, ect. Hi everyone, just got my Arctis 5, I have significant hearing loss in my left ear due to cholesteatoma / operations, to the point if I put my hands over both ears and just over my left ear it sounds the same. I've always struggled with surround sounds and games where you hyper focus on directional sound like siege I could never be good at bc I couldn't tell where the footsteps were coming from lol. Does anyone have any suggestions for setting or things I could do to enjoy my headset more, ie hear music in both ears (i can still hear bass in my left) and even to be able to discern directional sound, or just the best general gaming settings you recommend for someone with a gammy left ear. Nova pro wireless is a very flat EQ. It's like a reference speaker, also called a studio monitor speaker, right. So, these Nova pro's do not have any tuning out of the box. They're just meant to reproduce accurate sound. This is what you want, so that you can tune them yourself.

  If you want a different sound profile  use Sonar! They will reproduce great bass if you tune the eq. There's a bass eq preset.

DESTINY 2, FOOTSTEPS CONFIG:
I don't play PvP so this was a tad interesting to try to do.. Listened to what my own footsteps sounded like, then went to various worlds and let players run/walk near me, also did the same in the tower.. Was aiming for footsteps plus half decent EQ for the rest of the sounds.. Not an extreme amount of bass tones.. This config does utilize surround, so far seems to be decent.. But again, I don't do PvP so someone would need to test it out and see if it works:

Everyone's voice is different, so there's no one general mic EQ for everyone.. Best thing is to do is utilize the record button in Sonar mic EQ and then mess with the settings til you get something you like. Look up a few YT vids on mic EQ to get a basis for how to get it to make your unique voice sound best 🙂

OK for just the Engine for a general EQ, this is what I came out with.. Haven't tried any games with it, just music.. But if all the styles of music I tried sounded decently good, it should be decently good for general gaming too. This won't give you individual footsteps as that is more what Sonar does, but it should give you something to work with 🙂

-Had to redo my original post, I forgot Spotify was on a separate audio channel and EQ on Sonar 🤦 Sonar sounds significantly better than the engine, so this was hard to swing. Switched multiple times between flat and custom..

A tweaked out version of my General EQ but this time, with Spatial Audio. It's good for almost all music, oldies and such need a slight down pull of the "Voice" slider, but other than that pretty on point with everything else. Really gets the bass tones for those who like heavy bass, can pull down that slider too for those who don't. So far, I'm liking this config better than my original general EQ. You could try mine that's pinned, good for a general EQ for everything, and I did put on some orchestra and instrumentals in my testing on that config 🙂

The reason no one has created a config for voice is because everyone's voice is unique and it's almost impossible to get one general config for everyone. The best advice is to use the record button in Sonar to record your voice, then mess with the EQ until you are happy with the playback. There are YouTube videos that share how to best make your voice sound the best with EQ software. Using that plus the record button should get you what you need with your own config 🙂

They help you get the best sound possible with your current equipment, how to get it to sound the best with recording and general voice programs, like OBS Studio and Discord. Just takes a bit of research, but there's a lot of vids on YT that explain how to train your ear to hear what's best for your voice 🙂

Have you used the built-in feature on Discord for Input Sensitivity? I know would be great in Sonar, but sometimes this is a much more simple fix.. Have them chatter and watch the input line, then set the bar just over 🙂

Sonar has a noise gate too, but Discord will show the actual incoming sound so you can visually see where the incoming audio from your friends lands on the bar. IMO it's easier than trying to tweak that out in Sonar..

Everyone's voice is different, there is no one EQ works for all.. I would suggest watching YT videos that explain the best way to go about setting up EQ specific for your voice. There won't be any mic EQ's in here because everyone sounds different 😉

I want to optimize the sound of footsteps, BUT I want to minimize/reduce the sound of gunfire. Everyone's voice is unique so there won't be a general config for your mic. Best suggestion, look up some YouTube videos for mic EQ to get you on the right track. This is why you can record your voice in Sonar and see what your config sounds like.

Also, make sure it's not a third party mic like a condenser mic as those aren't recommended for Sonar sadly and will give you some issues 😉

This is a very good video. You may not be able to add reactive frequency response, but it gives you an idea of how to tune your mic yourself. I did this, with my standalone microphone, and it made a world of a difference.

They've improved spatial audio since Sonar Beta days before official release.. I used to keep it turned off for all gaming, but now it enhances all sound.. Footsteps EQ can be tweaked pretty decent now with the distance slider and individual speaker placement in spatial audio 🙂

Noise Reduction:
Background - Affects anything in the background.. Fans, Mouse Clicks, constant noise like mic breathing.
Impact - Whacking the desk, sudden loud noises, ect.
Noise Gate - Sets a level of volume at which the mic cuts off, sometimes this is helpful if the sound is one constant volume. You can just cut off the mic at a certain level, this can be problematic if your voice volume happens to hit the same volume, as then your voice will cut in and out.

Mic Mixer:
Use the Mic Mixer first to record your voice and get the settings right. Then if you use mic on headset for like Discord and such with Chat Mix, you'll need to copy what you did over to the Chat Mixer. Not sure why Chat Mixer doesn't allow to record your own voice, this is super helpful in trying to get EQ and Background Noise filtered out. For now, tweak it out in Mic Mixer than copy over. It's a pain, but it'll be worth it.

ALSO: Don't use my EQ bands, this is for my voice only. Everyone's voice is different, so EQ settings for one will not work for everyone else.

ABOUT MIC EQ:
So you're excited about your new headset, you see all these EQ configs from the community and are excited to try them out for the ultimate sound experience.. But wait, you notice there's no microphone EQ configs, you have no idea why and want someone to do the EQ preset for you.

Here's why there are no configurations for your microphone:

With game sounds, the sounds are the same for everyone. Some random soul has the ability to listen to what's there's for everybody and adjust the EQ settings to sound a certain way, and it'll sound that way for everyone because the source sound is the same for everyone.

Your voice as the source sound is unique to you. There is no way for deep voiced Joe to know how to EQ Jane's higher voice. Even voices that are similar in tone are still very much different from each other, which means one EQ that works for all just won't happen.

HOW TO EQ YOUR VOICE:
This can be tricky, but the best solution is to find a few streamer videos on YouTube that explain the basics of mic EQ for microphones. Sonar has a Microphone Mixer that allows you to record a snippet of your voice and EQ it accordingly. Use a YT video to learn the basics, then mess around until the mic mixer playback sounds as you like.

Now as of this message there is no way to copy configs over to other mixers, so if you want that profile for your Chat Mix, you'll need to copy it over manually.

I hope this helps anyone in the future looking for microphone configs, hopefully this gets them on the right track.. 🙂

the balanced EQ is a good all-rounder for chat, plus you can turn on clearcast AI on the chat output so if your friends have particularly noisy mics, it'll help remove some of that noise

I'm using Engine and disabling Sonar. I noticed that the sound is much smoother, firmer and wider than using Sonar. Later I will be publishing two presets, one for Rainbow Six and another for Warzone.

What makes me happy is that unnecessary and loud sounds are low but very noticeable, while the focus on footsteps is very apparent.

Others have used it for their Nova and Arctis headsets, have said sounded great.. All you can do is try it and see if you like it 🙂 There's the general EQ and the tweaked out version with Spatial Audio

So far I like the 1st one but I have Spatial - On performance, distance 65 and smart volume on 0.30 felt the audio got a bit better for me with those adjustments. Using Nova Pro W btw.. But I'll check the other one out later on if I feel the need to adjust again? // Cheers

i just got a steel series arctis 7+ headset and i am trying to figure out the best settings for just overall use and for games like valorant. The only issue is when I use surround sound it makes my discord call surround sound and its very annoying. Does anyone know the best settings for this?

Do you use Sonar? If you do use the Chat feature for Discord, skype etc. in that you can tweak your sounds for chatting.. Hope it helps

If you go into Sonar tab and search for modern warfare 2 you'll find some youtube vids that apperantly have the best settings.. Try it you might like them better then.. Cheers

That really depends on what you using them for? Games, movies just browser in general.. And it's like most things a personal preference as well! Have you considered to use Sonar? With that you can configure 4 different types with their own tweaks and what not 🙂
