Hello, I have a problem. I own a Nova Pro headset and use Sonar to capture my gameplay. I also have a Shure MV7 microphone and do not use the headset microphone. However, every time I restart my PCor close the app, the Sonar app defaults back to the SteelSeries microphone. Is it not possible to use another microphone and set it as the default in the app? It's quite inconvenient because every time I want to play something, I have to remember to switch the microphone in the app. If I forget, my microphone won't capture any sound in the clips. I have already set my Shure MV7 as the default microphone on my PC.

For those who have problems with sonar on their MSI/Alienware laptop, i found a solution thanks to @worn stump, i downloaded an intelligo driver from the MSI website. In this archive you have to extract, there is a file called "install_all.bat", you have to run it as administrator. It will install all the drivers for a specific version which is fixed with sonar.
I'm using an Alienware X17 R2, and it worked for me.

After installing it, remove entirely Steelseries GG (from program manager, and then delete the folders in program files + program data); restart your computer, and then reinstall Steelseries GG.

Close application, restart PC. Try again. If that doesn't work then I would uninstall GG, restart PC. Install it again and try to enable Sonar again.

If you're PC isn't that fast, give it some time during "Starting" to add in all the audio devices that Sonar installs.

Spotify is played in the game source because the default setting in the sonar application is virtual output device (sonar gaming). To change it, you need to run the sound mixer (the windows one) and find the spotify application there and assign it to the output device (sonar media)

If your soundcard has inputs, you could call it an AUX input and categorize it as such. Also, you can categorize specific programs into AUX and control them separately.

i just got an arctis nova pro and a hyerx solocast. sonar says my headset is at 96khz but the dac says 48khz. which one is right?

the base station says 48khz, and it's the good value. 96Khz is for "SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming" audio endpoint, it means that you won't loose any audio quality as long as your targeted device does not exceed this value (which is already pretty high quality)

Can't properly set Discord outputs to proper Sonar channels. I'm trying to set one for chat, another output for media. So those beeps wouldn't be too loud. hardware dial means you must use the physical chatmix wheel on your headset

there are two wheels. One for the volume, one for the chatmix

Try unplugged your headset from the PC and replugging. ChatMix sometimes likes to mess up after a GG update and that usually fixes it

Hello, I need help with sonar, when i close it for some reason it cant open itself again, its stuck on this screen. For example i wanted to restart GG, and one time the whole app was stuck on this screen but now its just the sonar and it wont boot up. It only works sometimes when i restart the PC and it boots on automaticaly. Also my game output is messed up, when i go to sound control pannel i can see that PUBG outputs directly to the headset output and not the sonar - game audio one, also my media like chrome etc wont output sound unless i disable my game audio since i set the game audio as my default device ( i tried using a chrome extension to output to the media or chat output but it still gives no audio)

It worked when i installed it, next time i opened the app whole GG app was like sonar in the picture (wouldnt load) then I rebooted and everything worked, after a while the app crashed when i went into sonar, i tried booting it and the picture happened, now i reinstalled and it works, will test to see if the issue is stil there, if it does i will send you the logs

Hi! I bought the Arctis 9 headset and when testing the sound of my mic in sonar it sounds great, but whenever I talk in discord it sounds pretty bad, like hollow... I have tried pretty much everything online, made sure the frequency is correct, tried disabling some stuff in discord that alters the voice in some way, messed around with a bunch of different EQ settings but nothing makes it better in discord... Hey folks! I've been using sonar for a few months and really love it. I started running into some issues yesterday

I can no longer change the chatmix balance

I normally use the hardware wheel, but it's not working

When I click the wheel, the DAC still shows "Volume"

it never changes to balance

I probably found a glitch in the app, or at least its strange behavior. After launching the app, my overall volume indicator is set to about 1/5 of max volume. It wouldn't be surprising if it wasn't for the fact that I always set it to 100% and from time to time it returns to its previous value, whether after restarting the application or even without restarting. Personally, I have the impression that changing the preset, whether in the game volume section or in the media volume, restores the master volume to max. volume taken from the other 3 sections

It's rather odd that this behavior started to manifest after a restart, prior to it I've not had the issue.

After boot Windows some users may work in some apps and listen music. Not alltime gaming. If this software created only for gaming - why you create media profile?
In most games we have a way to choose which output device is used - it's usable. But in Windows OS every time change sound output device after boot...
You need to make a button to change default device after start Sonar - I think many people will not delete Sonar after after adding this.

Also need to add button to not set Sonar mic by default in Windows after start Sonar.
Some mics work incorrectly with this.

For context I owned both the Arctis Pro Wireless and upgraded to the new Arctis Nova Pro Wireless

had the same problem, in steelseries GG go into settings > device fallback, this fixed it for me, but for some reason when i get an Gpu driver update (6900XT) it reset my sound output to the screen speakers 🙂 hope it fill be fixed, but atleast is easy to do, still annyoing tho. Have the Nova Pro Wireless and its the best headset ive used for warzone 2.0 with sonar and the ANC option works. Haven't heard a word from the wife since I put it on. ❤️

chatmix slider works with any headset as long as you are using the same device for Game and Chat.
But chatmix will work using sonar UI only, you can't bind a wheel on your headset to control chatmix. Only Steelseries device have this feature

My Arctis 7 definitely didn't have these issues. This is definitely a software issue, I think the biggest difference was that the Arctis 7 presented a separate mic and headphone to Windows and worked more as a hardware level mixer. This software has been annoying to say the least.

Crackling / distortion is usually related to desync in your sample rates.

1.) In your sounds menu you can right click the playback device and go to properties.
2.) Check advanced tab for Steelseries device (gaming is usually default, but whichever is having issues)
3.) Match the format with your actual output device (I think SS defaults to 8ch, 24 but, 96k Hz (studio)
4.) reopen your steelseries and see if that worked!

If your native audio source (speakers, headset, w/e) doesn't have that specific sample rate, try unchecking "Enable Audio Enhancements" under signal enhancements.

I got the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless Xbox. Everything works great except the mic. I've unpaired and paired the headphones, checked drivers, ran windows troubleshooting, unplugged everything, restarted pc, restarted the headphones, and adjusted mic settings through the base station. My PC recognizes that there's a microphone attached to my headphones, but it doesn't pick up on anything. My microphone works perfectly through bluetooth.

I recently installed the Steelseries GG software in order to use the Sonar functionality but I encountered a problem.
When I use the software at the same time as I watch a video on Youtube, the sound coming from Youtube appears in the Game category and not in the Media category.

Which bothered me several times when the software was recording gameplay moments.

Not sure if it's my PC, but my audio's way quiet than it should be. I have my PC's volume on 100, sonar on 100% and the mixer's all maxxed out. It still isn't as loud as I would've liked it to be. It would be in the Engine tab. Make sure your dongle is connected (and if you have an xbox headset, make sure the mode switch on the dongle is set to USB mode)

So Windows will automatically set the output to whatever your main output is, so in the case of Sonar it'll set it to Game. But once you go into the routing options in Windows and set it to Chat/Media/AUX it should remember that output so you shouldn't need to touch it again

You have to slide to the right in the mixer, the mic should be there. You can work around this problem by adjusting your Windows display percentage.

Hi everyone. I could use some help on a couple of questions. I suppose game sound should come out in headphones, and chat in the earplug thingy right? What I cant seem to figur out is why I dont get sound in the headphones, but all sound goes through the earplug in the headphones. When I test in windows I can see theres sound, but it doesn't play in the headphone.

So I've been using SteelseriesGG for a long time now and i started using sonar as soon as it was available but since then my SteelseriesGG just crashes in irregular intervals. I need to clear all tabs from the application out of the task manager and then restart it again. Works 75% of the time.. sometimes it wont load into the application and only give me a grey screen.
Its very unfortunate cause it happens multiple times a day and i cant enjoy using it when its not that reliable.

First you can check your mic's level:
Mixer > Settings panel (cog icon on mic channel) > level

After if only a couple of words cut out it means that you might be using :

1. Clearcast AI to the max coupled with a high setting of Compressor.
2. If no Clearcast AI on, your Noise gate might be too highly set up.

Try first to disable all the options above. Test your mic.

Head to your Game tab, you can start to personalise an EQ from an existing preset or create your own.
On the EQ in the SUB-BASS and BASS section lower your bands (the colored dots)
You can play around with the Bass slider at the bottom too to find the sweet spot.

I dug into the shortcut settings and I discovered that there is no setting for switching between input/output devices
I have both a speaker and a SteelSeries headset and I frequently switch between the two
So far, my solution was to set macro keys in my keyboard software, ROCCAT Swarm, that launches a third party app to set the audio devices

I don't think there's a way to change it back, but AFAIK the new presets are the same as the old presets, and they're in the same bands, so if you wanted to edit them like before all you'd need to do is drag them up/down and ignore everything else

if ur like me, high bass, medium treble and medium voice, change on own preferations, this is for gaming, music and entertainment combined, I do use a hyperx cloud 2 so the bass level hits hard idk abt the arctic headsets

Sonar spatial audio is different than dts, atmos, and other softwares. Turn off dts and other spatial audio settings if you want to use sonar spatial audio, otherwise they’ll conflict with each other

some programs like Discord have automatic gain control that can sometimes change the audio levels directly in windows, so be sure to check the audio settings of whatever chat program you're using and turn off any gain/volume control

How do I opt into the "stream mix" mode on Steelseries Sonar. I was in it before but I can't find it

Inside the sonar tab on the left, click on the little settings cog to the right of the media profile, then select "app to device routing" then change the browser you are using's setting to be the Sonar Media output.

im stuck on this. it was working 10 mins ago, i uninstalled GG to get a fresh intall, then it got stuck on the loading after clicking start up. I have already uninstalled, and completely deleted all GG temp files / registry / services. did a fresh install and it does the same thing, stuck on loading

sonar was working and then I installed the update and now it isn't. Yay lol. Can't press any button and I am getting so sound. The inputs are all the same but it says an error with my headset microphone

I have been having hitching/stuttering for months now... both headsets Arctis 7 wireless and Arctis Nova Pro wired. I uninstalled GG and had no issues but reinstalled it to have it back
