Hey, so i just got my nova pro wireless, and i noticed the music quality and bass especially, is way worse out of the box, than my previous arctis pro wireless. How did you guys go about getting the eq / sonar tuned to music and stuff? I did try to modify eq, but the bass is just flat and not really on par with arctis pro wireless so far.

Turned everything off and on again and it self corrected the first time - today it just will not fix itself.

Reinstalling all of the GG software and reseting the headset now - will check for a firmware update on the arctis nova 7 as well.

I transferred from the OG arctis 7 that I LOVED - but I did not use sonar. ( I didn't like the software or the clutter it added to my pc's audio settings) Was a little disappointed to find out sonar was required for my chatmix wheel to even function on the newer nova 7. It worked fine for about a month, then I swapped pcs with a friend, and the Aux channel was added to sonar within the same few days - all the sudden the chatmix wheel is just dead and I can't get it fixed.

I currently use VM Banana but since I have steelseries gg installed thought I could cut down on things installed and use sonar for this but can not find a way to do it.

"Exit" its task-bar icon and restart the software. If that doesnt work, close its Processes via Task Manager and restart the software.
Prepare for doing that with every freakin boot of your PC.

One of my main issues with the nova compared to og arctis 7 is that you’re forced into sonar and it clutters all of your UI with its long output names and 5 channels when I only need those 2

Steelseries is becoming a hassle - used to be my favorite peripherals across the board

You could have just installed it again, without a prior deinstall. The installer fixed/repaired automatically whatever was broken. Maybe good to know for the next time. 🙂

I used to used Razer stuff but recently changed to nova pro. Feels like the quality of sound is slightly worse than Nari(2019) has. At the same time the features like having 2 batteries, bluetooth etc are useful but not sure if it's worth it because nova pro is twice more expensive. Both sonar and razer synapse work ... not as expected. I mean, every time i had to do a shaman dance to make THX work with razer headset. Sonar is less buggy but I have 91823 output devices instead of just 2. ChatMix stops working randomly from time to time

btw. whoever has the infinite loading-problem on boot - you might try to disable "fast startup" in the Windows Control Panel (see picture). Didnt had the problem three times now - might be just luck, but it might also actually helped with that.

Raising the noise gate setting in sonar will have it pick up less often and catch just your voice at a higher db - as for canceling background once the mic is opened and past that gate, sonar has some rather limited options and I don’t really know why the ‘background’ settings wouldn’t function. @glad shoal

I use a yeti microphone and logitechs g hub to tune its sound. What sonar calls ‘background’ is split into de-esser / de-popper / suppression / humming / etc then past that each one of those settings has attack and release times plus you can set the change in decibels you’d like the software to apply in each situation.

Sonar tries endlessly to take control of my yeti mic and I just laugh and say no. Useless software.

Are you using the Mic Test feature in Sonar? Because that one actually adds some BG-noise to the recording in Sonar (not "loud" but noticeable). So your real noise-level might be lower than you are hearing it there.
And then it really depends on the situation on how much self-noise the mic is producing and how your situation is. You cant do much if e.g. your PCs/laptops fans are realy loud. It might help to apply a low-end cut in the Mics EQ-settings. Just push the 31Hz-slider all the way down.

if you have an nvidia card, i believe they come installed with some high definition audio driver - presumably for audio over displayport/hdmi which could be causing some issues on every update. have you tried simply restarting your pc after each update as opposed to reinstalling steelseries?

Hi, how I can get rig off crackling? I have random cracks while using Sonar. It is getting annoying. I've suspicion this might be related with processor? I am using Sonar on laptop with i7 processor 12650H. Processor is not overloaded. If not, try to reinstall (you dont need to uninstall btw, if you want to keep your settings) and restart your PC.

Hi, i changed the Windows output device to Steelseries Sonar Media, and my sonar is complaining that I have the wrong output on Windows and when I change to their recommendation it changes to Steelseries Sonar Gaming which is the wrong one. They do this because ChatMix doesn't function without the gaming one setup. Technically the Gaming profile is meant to be default as all desktop apps default to the gaming one, and without it set, you can't hear the sounds they make.

As for removing it, this isn't possible. Hopefully the devs will take in our feedback and come up with a more efficient way to manage volume that requires minimal understanding, such as a volume mixer for sonar outputs.

Is there a yellow bar asking you to set preferences to Sonar to default? That would be the first step.

The second would be to ensure you're properly linking your dedicated sound card or onboard audio under the drop-down.

And third is to ensure that the sliders are appropriately adjusted.

I'm not sure I understand. You've plugged in analogue to your motherboard but not hearing anything / mic isn't picking up? If it is, the the onboard soundblaster is just a chip powering your audio interface for the motherboard. A chip is not the same thing as a dedicated sound blaster sound card.

Sonar can be useful for EQing with software. I was referring to sound blaster software intended for dedicated sound cards. Sonar is fine to use.

Plus like I said - there's a preset under the gaming audio for sonar for CS:GO. I just gave you the sound blaster audio curve (which you can set manually in sonar) if you'd prefer.

Why not use both voicemeter and sonar? Just set up your microphone and digital audio cable with voicemeter and route it into the microphone for Sonar?

Hi all, I have a Nova Pro Wireless and use a stand-alone mic. With the latest GG update, every time the Nova Pro Wireless are turned on, it's mic becomes the default within Sonar and I have to manually change it back to my stand-alone mic. I believe it should only change to the Nova Pro Wireless if that was the 'active' device when it was last connected.

by default, all apps output to your main windows output device. sonar doesn't override this behavior automatically, so you need to go into the settings next to the media/AUX devices and change the audio routing.

Hi all, just got my Arctis Nova Pros today.

Recently got the artis pros, but having on and off issues with it. just wondering if there was any actual resolves with it from steelseries, as theres forum reports of it 5 years ago now.

1. when booting up, a lot of the time the mic just will not work, no readings at all within sonar, no detection in zoom/discord. currently have a CMD script ive been using that restarts the audio drivers, which generally fixes this however no detection shows up in sonar when speaking

2. Mainly with CSGO, sound routes through chat or just outright wont work at all. Sonar has game set to "Speakers (GameDac Game)" and chat set to "headset earphone (GameDac Chat)". if you set it to match that within CSGO, so it plays through Speakers (gamedac game) or even sonar - gaming, there will be no sound at all. Current way around it is within Sonar setting Game to the same route as chat, and then doing the same within CSGO. Was working i believe about two steelseries updates ago. script mentioned in issue one doesnt resolve it either, and it seems to again have been an issue for the past 5 years

Yep! Frustrating.
When trying to use Sonar, I select the Arctis 9 Game and Chat sonar channels as the default sound and communication devices in Windows, and in the GG app I have each channel selecting the normal Arctis 9 as the output. The only channel that actually outputs any audio is Chat if I select the Chat sonar channel as the default device in windows. Selecting Game or Media produces no sound. I can see the sound level meter for Game and Media bouncing around when I select them as the devices in Windows, but I get no audio output. Anyone else pulling their hair out on this issue? Tried the search function, but didn't find much info.

I'm not sure if this is a problem on my end but there's an infinite play, when I record myself using the MIC TEST in Sonar, and it keeps playing even after I close to tray. When I open the GG software again and go to Sonar -> Mic tab, the recording keeps playing even if buttons are showing the default state. I have to press the record and stop or just the play button to make the recording loop go off. #bug

So I could use a little help, My steelseries headset has a problem with the volume control knob so I've been using windows volume control instead of the physical knob. Now after setting up sonar, using the windows output volume slider doesn't start attenuating until something like 20%. Currently running Windows 11 and just bought a pair of Nova 7's. Didn't realized it relied on Sonar for the chatmix feature and I am plagued with a number of problems trying to set it up. (Sonar won't enable, device lists empty, event viewer flooded with TLS errors, etc.)

so anyways - yesterday I was on Discord with my friends and I wanted to stream for them geoguessr... but then it suddenly got weird. when I tabbed to the geoguessr window the talk from the voice channel all turned really crunchy, you could call it "farting sound", but only when I moved my mouse around the geoguessr game... when I stopped the sound kinda became more normal, when I opened new tab in chrome, it also sounded normal, other programs, also normal, back to geoguessr tab, I start to move... and sound suddenly farts again.

Hi new here and new to PC, had mine less than a week now, got the steelseries arctic 9x fabulous headset,(I have come from xbox hence the 9x), and recently got the gg app to optimize the experiance, couple questions, 1 why is it sometimes the sound eq change on the different mixer tabs, as in I go to the main sonar tab with all the chat, aux, game and media tabs and its one preset sound lets say unconfigured sound, coming out of media, i then click on the media tab and the sound completely changes to lets say confiugured sound?

2 why does it disconnet from windows sometimes as in I have a speakers system, logiteck ones and the steelseries sonar - (media) plays through the speakers and not the headset (yes the headset was connected.)

I am not sure what the problems is but lately the settings that was working for me is no longer cutting it. Too often the game sound is on the speakers and the chatting is on the headsets. Reverting and changing do not fix it. The only way is to uninstall G and Sonar and reinstall. I have done this several time so far and I will not reinstall again. Funny thing it works if I am playing casually but if I join a team to do a Destiny raid or Dungeons, it start to misbehave and I have to get this going to be in the team so the easy fix is to uninstall. Anyway I may reinstall at some point later. Just sharing do not need support on this.

@delicate burrowfollow this exactly :........uninstall to do this goto search type control panel enter control panel top right if it says catagory drop it down and select large icons this will show the proper control panel apps then scroll to find and click "programs and features" then in the window scroll until you find steelseries and highlight and click uninstall then click back until your in control panel again and click "explorer file and folder options" then select "show hidden files, folders and drives" click apply and ok close goto c drive and delete steelseries from "programfiles" and "programdat" unplug your device reboot and before you plug back into a different port install gg login to your account plug your device back in and activate sonar ....... it should then work properly

@delicate burrow @white current I've asked a dev before when they were in chat and i was told in no uncertain terms that the design of sonar does revolve around sonar being the main audio device in windows, and there's no plans at all to change this design. if it's frustrating to you the advice is literally to not run GG at start up, or turn off sonar (or return the headset and go get something else)

yeah, one thing GG in general does terribly is explain wtf its doing and why. literally have to pull teeth and pray to the gods to get a reliable answer on whats going on. products get released and then nothing happens for 6 months, then suddenly it gets a new feature that no one was expecting, and then you ask how the hell to use it and there's no info on it.

the "people will figure it out" policy wasn't so bad when it was just Engine3 and it just was for minor device changes but now GG is a whole thing and they still don't explain much

i mean, they literally JUST published a youtube video about "how to use sonar" even though sonar has been out for almost a year now...

Hello, every time I screenshare my Audio in Microsoft Teams my microphone echoes. I thought it was because of my old headphones so I bought an Arctis 1 wired, but it didn't fix anything. The attached screenshots might help.

Might also assist in checking what's wrong, my music are played through Aux (Spotify), all browsers and everything else in Media (Edge), and all video conference, calling like Microsoft Teams and the Messenger Windows App are played through Chat. Games are played through Games.

From what I see on your screenshot, you set your internal Realtek Spkrs and your built-in microphone on Sonar, that's why you might have some echo!

To get chatmix working plz select the same device for both chat and game. If not working with your headset, please try replug the DAC

Not sure if I can post a feature request here but the ability to have sonor profiles would be amazing not only for sound settings but device settings i would love quickly change to my speakers or use different mic setups yes I am aware you can change the individual device but often I find myself dialing specific settings for both device and sound based on different usecases

Go into the mixer in Sonar and under the media option click App to Device Routing. From their you can change which programs output to which audio sources by setting things like your browser, the Netflix app, Spotify, etc to output through the Sonar - Media channel

Hey folks. Joined the server to say that I'm really impressed with Sonar. So much so, that I've retired my Elgato XLR and it's software. Am also experimenting with a notch filter at 6500Hz to see if it helps with my tinnitus.

1. In windows, SteelSeries Sonar - Gaming must be selected => This is the standard default output
2. Manually route every app you want to dedicated output (Game/Chat/Media/Aux) using windows app routing menu or in-app settings (discord for instance)
3. Apply audio effects on each Game/Chat/Media/Aux and enjoy

I'm having the same problem as people above me. Today Sonar completely turned off my sound. Switching it off helped for a while, later I found out it was the "Gaming" profile that messes everything up. No amount of tweaking the settings was able to help. My Steelseries GG is up to date, I'm using Arctis Nova 7 headset.

Well, if you put the speakers as monitors, you can have that. You can run the same sound from headset into the speakers in the same time. If you don't want to listen to the sound, you turn off the speakers. But you must have access to the "Streamer Mode" Early Access for that.

It looks like this, and on the Streamer Mix you select your speakers.

Less than 10$, not too shabby, still missing to solder the GND/SIG for the pots and mechanical switches meant for mute, acts as a Bluetooth LE Joystick using an ESP32. Node.js bridge handles joystick input on PC side and uses WSAPI to control the virtual channels and has GG port finder for /chatMix?balance calls for the game/chat fading, but will probably make a C# service instead for smaller footprint. Will probably publish code/models /BOM once all complete on github :-)

im trying to modify my media section for my browser and youtube as to reduce the sharp S sounds some people's vocals have, some context is I don't have this issue as much with music or anything but some youtube commentators have a especially armor piercing S sound

(any research and self adjusting i do with it doesnt seem to provide any promising results, the research on the khz range's are vague at best and any self editing of the EQ sonar seems to only lower the quality of whatever im listening to)

yeah, using the categories you get custom EQ for each one

and you can use windows to make your browser go through media output and whatnot, its not that very well explained and windows is windows so they always have to make things difficult but once you get it i think its pretty fancy stuff

what does the distance setting do in spacial audio? it sounds like it just increases volume across when you go to closest, which itself seems backwards since it is when hearing from a distance that the volume would have to be higher to make things audible

spatial audio is attempting to emulate a 7.1 surround sound speaker setup, so the distance controls how far these "virtual speakers" are from your head. Since the speakers are closer they'll be louder, but it'll also mean that some sounds will "overlap" more

there's a test spatial sound in sonar that you can use to test how the distance affects stuff
